He does this on the HeroC forums too. He still doesn't get how deving works.
Wasn't it announced that 2.3 is too large to fit on the g1's memory? Froyo just barely fits...

if you look in the g1 dev section you will see there are some full 2.3 roms there try them out and see if they fix for what you are looking for
there are about 3 gb roms are being developed in the G1 dev section
- ezGingerbread
- CM7 unofficial
- COS-DS
ezGingerbread works just fine. Use the ADS MagPie build. It can be found in AnDisa or Firerat's sig.

Hi everyone I am new to all of this. So what is the best way to root my Captivate without bricking it. And what is the best rom to run for starters. Thxs
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
The easiest way that I have found that give me no issues whatsoever is this:
Search for z4root and download the .apk file to your computer (can't remember if i found it on the forum or elsewhere on the internet)
Search for Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine and download to your computer
Follow the instructions to use the sideload wonder machine to transfer the z4root.apk file to your phone; once transferred, disconnect your phone from your computer, open the app and click "permanent root"
Voila, your phone roots itself
I suggest having a full battery for rooting as well as flashing any rom
As for being "permanent", it is not, flashing back to stock before changing roms (i use odin3 one click) unroots your phone, so no worries on that front
Hope that helped!
As for the best rom, that's really up to you. As you will find in many other threads, every captivate is different, therefore nobody will have the exact same experience using the same rom. Each rom has its own advantages, so you really just need to keep trying different ones to see which one you like best, and which one makes your phone run best. I really suggest looking through the threads for each rom, reading about each one, looking at screenshots, and maybe reading other people's comments and issues towards the end of the thread (most recent comments go with the most recent version of each rom, as some roms have 100+ pages)
Currently, I am running Serendipity 5.9, looking to make the update to 5.11 later today once I'm out of class. This rom is my favorite so far, i still have yet to see its effect on my battery life. Other than battery life though, Serendipity gives me super fast download and upload speeds, isn't laggy at all, gives great benchmark scores, and is super stable from what I have seen so far. This is just for me though, so you really need to just try out whichever one looks best for you.
In the past week and a half since I first rooted and flashed a rom, I have run all of the following roms:
Andromeda themed and unthemed
Gingerclone
Perception
Cognition
eSPyel's Rom
Serendipity
Paragon
Firefly
Phoenix
...possibly a few others...those are just the ones I remember by looking at the captivate directory sticky thread (in the development section), which you should really read before doing anything, if you haven't already, they give a great rundown of the whole process.
Hope this helped as well, and good luck
Thanks for the tips. Saw this post right before I hit the search.

For rooting and installing custom ROMs try out the program in my signature (AIO Captivate Toolbox). And for a recommendation of a ROM, I'd say serendipity is a very solid choice for a beginner.
Watch videos in General section.
My personal experience included NOT downloading some one click root program or the like. I don't know, maybe it's safer that way. Then again, maybe it's just a waste of time and energy. I simply downloaded some crappy BuglessBeast rom. Renamed it update.zip. Put it on my cappy. And reinstalled packages from the boot screen. It took all of a minute and I didn't need to interface with my cpu or any software.
I can't post links yet, but if that interests you go to the androidforums captivate page and check out the 'unleash the beast' thread.
Immediately after that, I did the same thing, but with Perception.
Perception and Serendipity are the two roms I'd recommend. Perception has a prettier settings menu. Serendipity probably runs a tad bit smoother and is GB themed.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Appreciate your help

Perception just got discontinued, but I've been using precision which is very smooth and has great battery life as well.
[ROM] Precision 3.5 [Kernel] Suckerpunch #51
I searched filecrop.com and was able to search z4root.apk v1.3.0 qnd found the z4root app, just if you were searching for it

I am looking for old ROMS for the nexus one. Ideally based on Android 2.0 or 2.1. Most of the links I am finding are either for newer versions then that, or the links are broken.
Anyone have links to old Android 2.0/2.1 ROMS that are still up for DL?
Thanks!
Out of curiosity: Why would you want that?
Want to review some stuff about how much Android has changed between the versions, and test some functionality between them. Especially in the functionality of the web browser.

Thanks everyone for the replies! They helped me out greatly.
Hi friends,
I am proud to join the SGN community. currently my phone is rooted, running on Ginger Bread, kernel version Abyssnote 4.2. Everything just works fine thankful to the developers for their great job and clear instructions. Well, let me not drag it anymore. Has any developer made MIUI ROM based on ICS designed for Galaxy Note? Because previously I used to own a Samsung I9000 and for that model, there was (and still is)a whole bunch of different ROMs with different modifications and tweaks and the list included some MIUI ROMs too which were really cool to look at and fun to use. I just love the themes and those animations on MIUI.After buying this new Samsung Galaxy Note I really hoped I could flash a MIUI based on ICS but unfortunately could't find one here on the forum. I hope my thread sparks some interest in all developers' minds and they come out with a cool ROM for all of us. Thank you for reading my thread patiently. Cheers

Hi Ranjan.Alva,
Thanks for the link to MIUI based on ICS. I am going to flash and see how it works on Galaxy Note.
I tried that ROM too...well, everything looks fine except that the inbuilt player won't play anything from the external memory card. Funny isn't it? What is the use of flashing a ROM if you have to depend on the internal memory all the time?....Any suggestions???
I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this thread, but I can't seem to find a good link for powerboost 2.2 or 2.5 online, all the links I've found are dead.
After the youtube video I saw in the development thread this made me want to see what speeds I can get with this mod, unfortunately the 2.0 pb linked in the video is not for eclipse 2.2, however the pb 2.2 and 2.5 are for all roms.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
