Right then with all the controversy with GOOGLE not being happy with cyan distributing there apps with his roms....
I HAVE THE SOLUTION
This Software will Take a BARE BONES ROM (no google apps included) and will basically aslong as you have a back up copy of these google apps will UnZip the ROM, Stuff it with your backup apps, ReZip the ROM and SIGN it so you have a fully fleshed out ROM to go out and update
Just to add this is just a test app to demonstrate a method to combat google threats make sure u check back when cyan releases bare bone app for update
HAPPY DAYS

Does this only do Google Apps ?
or can it account for proprietary HW Manufacturers supplied files as well???
~enom~
There are four simple steps on how to use the program which you will see once you open it, you must already have the google apps backed up as i cannot distribute them(obviously lol) but there are scripts available around here which will pull all the google apps from your current rom and back them up, i may include this next time i get a chance to program
Glad to see we are already getting solutions to bypass Google's lockdown. Just happy that I already have the ROM with the new market and YouTube

it will push whatever apps you have backed up into system/app then zip it up and sign it ready for updating. tho i would not place any old app in there because it will save them all in the phones memory
Nice going. :]

You need to coordinate with Farmatito and his thread <HERE>. He has developed a script that backs up all the necessary files. But they don't all exist in /system/app. We need to all coordinate on these things so that effort doesn't end up getting duplicated and wasted.
This should be migrated into CM-Updater
Does this mean everybody is happy again?

Good point i think if were going to use an app to do this we will need to pull in all our efforts together so we can have the full monty in one app,
just looking through that script though and im wondering if it is actually necessary to pull all of those apps? i think it would be necessary to chat with cyan to get the specific apps that he will be removing from his roms, but this is a start.... at the moment this app is useless as there are no bare bone roms lol but its a light in the right direction

For the backing up part its just a matter of updating the lists of files and
the name of the archive. The infrastructure, error checking and testing
is already there. The needed binaries (zip) are compiled and tested.
BTW do you prefer zip or tar.gz archives (can do both) ?

ROM thread: link
ROM themes thread: link
I created this Q&A thread for this ROM to prevent tons of new threads about ROM specific questions from new users. Please feel free to post any questions here.
When posting a question, please make sure to mention:
ROM version
Kernel and version
Any theme, if applicable
Modem, if applicable
Also, please give some time for your question to be answered. Devs in particular are pretty busy churning out something or other for us. So be patient.
1. No question is too noobish, but please learn to do a search first, be it on this thread, or some other thread in this forum.
2. Before asking any questions regarding task killers and why they shouldn't be used, I would recommend reading this post: Android Memory Management

Glad to be of some help dilli. Thought this might help reduce Q&A style posts on the ROM thread.
I stopped even coming to 'dev' forums to look for ROMs since I know most ROMs now would be 2.2.1 based at the most, and well I feel I am on the best possible ROM already. Most of my time now is in the Q&A and General sections outside our three threads (ROM, themes, and this new Q&A now).
Sup my glitter ball bruthers,
Been using gballs sincemy first flash cuz it seemed to have the least problems and the best support and satisfaction....firstflashed 2/13. I am using suckerpunch #51 1ooomhz (so f'ing fast i need too slow down) also using dillis bluetheme and the latest add on
I was just wondering about modems. it seems there are newer modems than the one that is included with dilies6.0 .... jl2, i believe. Am i just confused or should i consider a different modem, if so why, or why not?
ive also noticed a new service since the newest addon other than the new keyboard service running all the time and periodically starting and restarting
It is called Sns service ... do i need this service?
If not how can i get rid of it?
Oh and,
Gballs Unite!!!!!!
Running di11i v6, unthemed, no mods/changes. (Been on it nearly 2 weeks....very nice.) Can't do adb remount - it returns Permission denied. Tried other threads suggestions to similar problem. TiBU works and shows busybox, SU shows TiBU as having root access. Reflashed di11i again along with TiBU but still having same issue.
Haven't ever had to post before - you guys do a great job; easy to follow along in other threads. I just can't seem to find an answer that works.
* Just noticed with adb shell> su the phone prompts for allowing SU permission for the shell. Even though I allowed it, I still can't remount (displays "operation not permitted" now). So it's definately not a problem with the ROM/add-ons - never really thought so but....if anyone has any ideas.
official 2.2 tomorrow.

Learning as much as I can from Mobile Tech Vids. Got the OC Di11i 6.0. How do I add the Blue theme. Downloaded your version 3 and 5 (want to put boot anni on the 5). I know the answer is starring me in the face, I'm just not seeing it. Thanx.
BTW- Been using Bay_Wolf's AIO Captivate toolbox. So...I've kinda been cheating and doing things the easy way....which means there's alot I'm not familiar with.
Also-If I change wallpapers, how do I get the Android wallpaper back without re-flashing the rom? (I'll prob keep comming up with a bunch of dumb questions, sorry. I hardly even know how to use this forum ex: what are stars and what's up with the thanks meter?)

Option 1 (simplest)
Apply 3, reboot, then apply 5. Simple and straight forward method if u do not want to mess around.
Option 2 (easy)
Apply 5.
Copy the zip attached to this post "as it is" into ur /system/media folder using an app like 'root explorer'.
Option 3 (depends on ur current skill level)
Open the v5 in winzip or winrar.
Create a folder called 'media' in the 'system' folder (the folder in which u see the 'framework' and 'app' folders).
Copy this zip 'as it is' into that.
Apply the updated v5.
Option 4 (simplest and easiest)
Check the links post (post 4). I will update with a link to v5 with boot animation included.
My mistake: I just downloaded the zip. It includes the boot animation Sorry about the confusion. Looks like I uploaded the zip with boot animation.

Assuming u r on dilli's ROM, u would have clock work recovery console already loaded. Steps below based on that assumption:
1. Copy the theme zip to ur SD card root.
2. Boot into clockwork recovery mode (press n hold power button, and select recovery in the options there).
3. Install the zip file using the option 'apply zip from SD card', then 'select zip from sd card' and then selecting the theme zip file (words framed may not be exact but convey the same anyways).
Only if u r NOT on dilli's ROM:
If u are on some other ROM, and not have CWM console, or u do not know what that is:
1. Rename the theme file to 'update.zip',
2. Copy this update.zip to ur SD card root
3. Go into recovery mode (press n hold power button, and select recovery in the options there)
4. Select the option there that says something like 'apply: update.zip'

Fix to Get Rid of the MMS Notification in your Call Logs
Apologies about the brief post earlier today, was at work and a bit of a hurry. Here is a more detailed method.
This was created from the JS5, i9000 source, but has been confirmed to also work on JS7 and KB1.
This will not remove exisiting notifications, but will stop new ones from popping up.
I do not take credit for the original fix, my source is listed below.
Clockwork Flashable zip file below to apply this fix, the steps are listed because I was asked for the process, but if you just want the mod, just flash the file at the bottom of this post.
This assumes you have knowledge of apkmanager or apktool to decompile the apk's, and notepad++ or another way to compare and edit the smali's. Those are lessons for another thread.
I happened upon this thread this morning over in Vibrant Q&A: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988929
Which led me here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853177 (Go Hit mammon88's thanks button)
-Grab the LogsProvider.apk from the Epic thread, second one linked, and decompiled using apkmanager.
-Move that file somewhere else, maybe even rename the folder, you won't need it again, and it will be the example folder/files.
-Take the LogsProvider.apk from your rom, and decompile with apkmanager or similar program.
-Inside the decompiled apk, using the one in the apkmanager folder here, not the Example Folder, browse to \smali\com\sec\android\provider\logsprovider, and open the LogsProvider.smali with notepad++ (that what I recommend using)
-Now from you Example Folder, drag the corresponding smali file to notepad++, and it will be in a new tab.
-In notepad++, hit Plugins->Compare->Compare, and the differences in the files are highlighted.
-Recreate the edits in the example to your main file, and save.
-Recompile the apk being sure to delete the classes.dex in the process.
These steps may/will work for comparing and editing other files, but be cautious. I didn't go in blindly and say "Eureka" on the first differences I saw. I compared every smali and xml, being cautious in editing, and got lucky on my first shot. Thankfully this apk only has a handful of smali files, first one I've ever decompiled that had less than 40. If you follow my steps, don't hold me responsible if it doesn't work, especially if you failed to make a backup.
The zip below is flashable via Clockwork Recovery. Backup as always, cause hey, it happens.
*Hits the thanks button when I get home*

Don't see how that is possible, it works on mine. Flash the file, it will not erase existing notifications, but new ones will now show up, read the OP please.

Thats interesting. I thought that Bionix 1.3.1 was KB1 (Android 2.2) based. Well hell, as long as it works, although be on the lookout for the odd issue or two, as this was sourced from the European i9000 JS5 port, and is all I've tested it on. Thx for the confirmation.

Well, Watsa was doing both. Both sides of the fence, if you will. Just that many more happy campers!
I just have to say....thank you thank you thank you.
This ROM is what the Captivate should have been the entire time. It took me awhile to get up to 2.3.5 with GB bootloaders and figure out how to flash it, but all of the info is there one the forums.
The SGS II email app alone made it worth it for me since I can now have my phone on WiFi and get my EAS email with zero problems. The stock 2.3.5 email app was still buggy for Exchange when WiFi was on and this fixed everything.
One question I have though. Can I pretty safely install each iteration of the Illuminance ROM over top of an older one? That is the only thing I was unable to find on the forums. I took the chance and installed 1.1 over top of 1.0.1 and have had no problems. I am just curious as to what is recommended.
Thank you again!
Anyone can make a non-transparent scroll down status(look like stock) for Illuminance v1.1 ROM?
The transparent one might get lag sometime... I am not sure why...?
First... Let me say that I am loving this ROM so far. I have not really been happy with any of the GB ROMS (Paragon RC6 on Froyo was my fav). Anyways, for some reason after flashing this ROM (coming from Obsession with Talon Kernel) I cannot get to me ext_sd card through CWM. From what I understand the CWM thing is part of the Kernel, so I downloaded the latest Samari 1.2 Kernel and flashed that. Still the same problem. Downloaded the Boog KJ3 Kernel and still the same problem. Any ideas what would cause this???
For the record my method for getting around not being able to access the external sd card is to put the files in the phone storage and flash from there.
TW4 for Illuminance
Anyway TW4 can be ported to Illuminance.

To answer your question, yes. You can safely install each iteration of this ROM over or on top of an older one. Right now, each is a full wipe version, meaning you'll have to redo all apps and stuff, but in the future IlluminatedOne said he'd be doing upgrade versions. We'll have to wait and see. Either way it's well worth any effort. This is a great ROM

Just for clarification... the internal 16GB sd card is called /sdcard. And the external sd card is found in the /sdcard folder and is called /external_sd. So is it the internal or external sd card that you're talking about?
Also when flashing anything CWM only allows you to go thru the sdcard (internal one), it says something like, 'install zip from sdcard', it will display the folder for your external sd card but won't let you install from there. That's why everything needs to be on the internal sd card before you try to install it. Hope this helps.
I got FC when I tried to use MiniPaper widget for the first time. And now when I try to open it, it won't open and I can't write anything. Only thing I can do is drag it and delete it. Any idea why?

I get the impression that TW4 doesn't work all that well with GB. For some it works better than others and that's why a lot of DEVs have switched back to TW3, much more stable and no FC's. If you want same look with more options you might try GoLauncher Ex with the TW theme.

There is no way a transparent image can cause lag. All PNGs are optimized.

Can anyone else confirm this? I dont have external sdcard so can not test it.

Anyway TW4 can be ported to Illuminance.

I will not work on porting TW4, instead I will try to enhance TW3 included. If you want to try, you can try TW4 from Apex 10 thread. Better, try TW3 from Pinnacle for better appearance and a few functionaries from TW4.

I got FC when I tried to use MiniPaper widget for the first time. And now when I try to open it, it won't open and I can't write anything. Only thing I can do is drag it and delete it. Any idea why?

Was working for me. Any one else faced this problem? Try clearing data for this app and reboot your phone. Check if that helps.

Yes, same here. As I mentioned earlier, CWM will show the folder with the external sdcard but when you choose it, it just drops back to current internal sd card directory. I've never tried to install anything from my external card from this or any other rom/kernel, but I didn't think you could ever install from an external card. Always had to put it in root directory or at least a folder on the internal sdcard.

Did what you told and seems okay now. Thanks

What happened to that

In stock when you select a photo and set as wallpaper you can choose as lockscreen or homescreen. I couldn't see that in Illu so...
And when i try from display settings and i get FC too.
Email
Maybe a silly question, not even sure if it belongs here or general Q&A, but can't seem to find answer. In the Notification bar when I get an email, clicking on the pulldown and email, brings up the GMail view of my gmail account. There is also the stock GB email app, which I found I like the view much better. Is there any way to get the stock email view to come up when going thru the notification bar? Or would I have to delete my gmail app?
I apoligize if this is not really ROM related. But I trust you guys

I dont use email app and i dont know if this will help at all or not. But if you are reffering to showing the subject of the message as the view, then you can go to settings>> labels to notify and uncheck Notify once

Yes but his removes some of the stuff like LG Launcher and such, and it also adds various scripts and such
Thanks. I plan to stick with the stock rooted rom and removing bloatware is something I'd like to do. Could you provide a list that tells me exactly what this removes?

works for me
Ok. I was able to get it. Thanks. Two questions:
(1) since this removes the bloat form the stock (odexed) V8 rom, I'm asuming it removes the .apks from system/app and removes the corresponding .odexs from system/framework, yes?
(2) There's a few apps and widgets like the LG Calendar widget I'd like to keep around. Can I simply make a copy of the .apks and .odexs this removes and restore individual ones by simply copying them back into their corresponding folders or is it more complicated?

(1) yes
(2) yes, just copy them back into /system/app make sure they have correct permissions otherwise they will fc. you can always fix permissions by using the option in CWM
this worked good except there were a few apps it didnt remove...like blockbuster and some verizon apps
awesome work, just a quick question:
I thought bluetooth function was tied into the music.apk on previous ROMS ... and by freezing or removing it, bluetooth would no longer work. Is this not the case? I could be completely wrong here

In previous versions this was the case, I have not tested it on the zv8 version but I am assuming it is still the case because it is the only app that will stream through Bluetooth in my car. Any other app (Pandora, Google music) will only play through an aux cable

Is it possible to run a .bat file that simply makes the ROM deodexed and allows a user to pick and choose what .apks to remove? Is there a master list of the .apks and the purpose/use? I know it would seem self explanatory by file name but it would be useful yo know if a certain .apk controlled a specific feature as well as system critical stuff to leave alone.
I certainly would like my revo to be more responsive and process more tasks at once, but I would also like to use some of the original features and software. I'd also like to learn more about how the process of adding and extracting stuff from ROMs works.
