Okay,I need some help I'm having with google market.I have recently installed the newest version of gingerbread rom and gapps.Everything worked fine including the market. So I decided to install the firerat mod.I followed the steps to install it and rebooted the system.Everything appeared to be working right until I tried to download apps from the market. The market opens fine and you can search for apps to download. But when you try to download an app it acts as though it is going to download because the icon in the upper left corner appears but it only stays for a few seconds and drops out.It never downloads anything.Doesn't matter whether it is on mobile network or wifi it does the same thing.

So I bought a Nexus One on craigslist. I thought it was all stock until I ran into the "cannot establish reliable sever connection" when I tried to sign into my google account. My question is how do I restore my phone back to the newest version of android 2.2. It is not unlocked (no unlocked padlock on boot screen). Under "Build number" it says "passion-userdebug Froyo FRE74 28579 test-keys." Under Android version it says "Froyo" instead of 2.2. And many of the 2.2 features are not present such as wifi tethering, and the new icons at the bottom center of the home screen aren't there. I only have the single grid icon and not the set of 3 with the browser and phone. And i'm not sure where to go from here. I want to be able to log into my gmail account and the android marketplace. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Assuming you verified you have Data Connection enabled and have the proper APN settings::::
Your seller may have rooted the phone without necessarily unlocking the bootloader. see
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710842
Also, the link I just added shows the different versions of 2.2 (missing a couple) but FRE74 doesn't look like one of them.
First find out if it is a rooted phone, Check the app drawer for any SuperUser or Spareparts icon. That or try installing Busybox from the marketplace and executing it.
If it is rooted, flash one of the many ROMS available on XDA, Cyanogen just released his beta version tonight. Personally I use Enomther Rom. Official version is out.
And BTW, read up on the process of flashing... most require you to wipe first.
and if it is not rooted....
All you need to do is do a Factory Reset
Settings / Privacy / Factory Data Reset
After that check what your Build number is.
Then you can go to your dialler and enter
*#*#checkin#*#*
What that will do is connect your phone to the Google servers, say hello, and the server will send the update to your phone. (Force OTA - Over The Air update)
My data connection is working, I browse the internet fine except for the youtube app and gmail.com. When I go to gmail.com through my browser I get "a secure data connection could not be established." But yahoomail and flickr logins work fine on both wifi and 3g. No superuser or spareparts icons in the drawer. I can't access the android marketplace since I cannot log into my google account. I did the factory restore and the build number is the same. I did the checkin from my dialer and it said "checkin failed"
So it seems like the phone is rooted but I just need to flash a rom with the froyo features I want. Any links or guides to doing this? I read and superboot seemed like the easiest way.
Sounds to me like an issue with radio... flash a new radio might do the trick. However, before I start messing around with the radio not knowing anything about my phone, I'd look into doing this first.

This will bring your Nexus One back to it's original shipping rom. It's gonna be alot of work, BUT this IS almost a $600 phone.
So I followed those directions and i'm back on android 2.1 and i can log into my google and everything seems to work fine. I want to update to 2.2 so I go to system updates, download the update, and install. But during the install process it shows the little box with the android and the loading bar but it stops and goes to the android and the exclamation point. I'm not sure what to do from here. My Build Number is ERD79
Hold Volume up and press Power (or possibly the other way around). That should bring up the recovery menu.
I tried once with the OTA update I downloaded, the phone restarted and tried to install by itself but went to the android with the !. So I download a froyo rom and rename it update.zip, not .zip.zip. And put it on my phone, I'm in the blue recovery screen and it says signature error. I'm thinking its the wrong rom i'm using.
ok, ive been having this problem for some time now.
whenever i try to install any app from the market, the "download" icon appears on my notification bar, but it isnt downloading anything, its just stuck. sometimes it works after i cancel and restart download a couple of times. in some cases, i just get "download unsuccessful"...other times it just disappears from the notification bar.
i already tried wiping market's data&cache through application manager.
also, ive been having this problem with various rom.
any idea?

+1 on that. I had that problem today when I installed IR's kernel after latest CM nightly. I thought the problem was due to the IR kernel, so reverted back to CM nightly & kernel, but same problem again. So its not the kernel. Is the error at Google's end??
Maps was just updated so server is probably getting hammered.
after a quick seatch ive stumbled upon many similar posts...could this really be a google problem?
Market misbehaves the last couple of days.
I believe it's Market problems, not ROM- or phone-related.
Hello Everyone, I have a G1 rooted and flashed with biffmod 2.1 and I installed his GApps update, and now when I open the market, it has an endless loading prompt until a windows pops up with network error, retry or cancel.
I can go to the settings area, click the magnifying glass and search for apps, and everything else works over my wifi. i can install apps, but it won't load...
any idea?
Edit: After 2 hours of this it now works, sorry for the unnecessary thread.
I have two Verizon Motorola Droid A855's that I want to turn into iPod Touch alternatives since I already own them. The phones will not have an active phone plan, so no 3G, I'll be using Wi-Fi only. This has worked fine, I am able to setup a Google account, install apps, etc. One is working great, the other is giving me fits. I have several problems with it. At this point both phones are running FRK76 (2.2.3). The one that works right updated itself OTA. The other one was at 2.2 and wouldn't update itself to 2.2.3, so I tried doing it via recovery mode and this is where my adventure started.
PROBLEM #1: Can't enter original recovery mode.
I can get into the original recovery mode normally on one of the phones, the other will not show the menu. I use Power+X buttons, the exclamation point graphic shows up, I press VolumeUp+Camera buttons and nothing happens. Works fine on the other one. I've tried the other key combos that are meant for other Droids just in case, nothing happens. I have verified the buttons work. I've also read that if I SBF back to some original rom (I've tried ESD20, FRG83G and FRK76 that I got from Peter Alfonso's site) that it will restore the original recovery mode. It has not helped. No matter what I've tried so far VolumeUp+Camera will not bring up the original recovery menu. I've been searching, and searching and nothing seems to work.
PROBLEM #2: Is there a way to activate the phone after SBF without having a Verizon phone plan?
I was able to root the phone using SuperOneClick, install Droid 2 Bootstraper, and ROM Manager. I used ROM Manager to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.1 and then pressed Reboot into Recovery in ROM Manager and upon reboot I can get to a recovery menu.
That all being said, I've yet to install a ROM from within recovery that makes the phone work correctly. So, I moved on to doing SBF and ran into other problems. After any SBF install I now get a dark grey triangle in the status bar. I'm pretty sure this means I'm in roaming mode becasue I need to activate the phone using *228 option 1. The problem is that I do not have an active plan for this phone anymore so it won't activate, it asks me to enter the 10 digit phone # of the phone. I tried putting in 123-123-1234 and obviously that doesn't work, it starts to send me to customer service. At this point I just hang up.
PROBLEM #3: SBF'ed phone won't update stock apps.
After I did an SBF on the problem phone and setup a Google account on it, I then used the old Market to install any simple app. Once that is done Market updates itself to Play Store. I enter Play Store and it should show me all a list of the stock apps under the INSTALLED screen plus any available updates to the stock apps, like Facebook, Twitter, Maps, Play Music. Overnight these apps did finally show up under the ALL screen of Play Store, but they just say "Installed" and when I click on one there is no Update button, only open. None of the stock apps show up under INSTALLED. The phone thinks the newest versions of these apps is already installed, but they aren't. I am not sure what to do about this. I would like to be able to update to the newest stock apps (well, most of them). I keep reusing the same Google account on this problem phone, so maybe setting up a new account might work?
This was a long post, it seems around here shorter posts get answered but then people always ask for more info. So, I just gave the info upfront. Hope there is some help or suggestions out there. Thanks!
Problem #2 is a non-issue. You said it will not be active on a line, so there is absolutely no need to do a *228 on the phone. In fact, you will get better battery life if you turn off the cellular radio putting it into airplane mode. Wi-fi will still work if you turn it on after it's in airplane mode.
Hi
i tried to download an app but that didnt work - i was able to download payed apps and update the apps. So i followed all the help and forum advices but still could not download free apps. I have now done a soft reset and it is still not working - it got worse to not installing any apps or updates. I used the Sony Update Service Tool and did a reinstall of the newest Firmware, still i cannot download any apps!
thanks for your support
Does it show any error message?

no thats the thing, it shows nothing...it just displays the Blue bar and downloading. I now rerouted the phone to connect through the USA via my own VPN tunnel i have, and it works. So it must be something wrong with the Swiss or German Play Servers - or my settings registered at those servers.
I also noticed that even after a reset not everything is deleted on the phone. For example my phone still lists all visited access points under the wifi tab. I wiped it, flashed it, rooted it and it still has those settings there...so strange. Also the backup tool from sony is crap
