[Q] Help! Can't download any apps... - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i tried to download an app but that didnt work - i was able to download payed apps and update the apps. So i followed all the help and forum advices but still could not download free apps. I have now done a soft reset and it is still not working - it got worse to not installing any apps or updates. I used the Sony Update Service Tool and did a reinstall of the newest Firmware, still i cannot download any apps!

no thats the thing, it shows nothing...it just displays the Blue bar and downloading. I now rerouted the phone to connect through the USA via my own VPN tunnel i have, and it works. So it must be something wrong with the Swiss or German Play Servers - or my settings registered at those servers.
I also noticed that even after a reset not everything is deleted on the phone. For example my phone still lists all visited access points under the wifi tab. I wiped it, flashed it, rooted it and it still has those settings there...so strange. Also the backup tool from sony is crap

Beginner question: Unsure which version of froyo is on my phone

So I bought a Nexus One on craigslist. I thought it was all stock until I ran into the "cannot establish reliable sever connection" when I tried to sign into my google account. My question is how do I restore my phone back to the newest version of android 2.2. It is not unlocked (no unlocked padlock on boot screen). Under "Build number" it says "passion-userdebug Froyo FRE74 28579 test-keys." Under Android version it says "Froyo" instead of 2.2. And many of the 2.2 features are not present such as wifi tethering, and the new icons at the bottom center of the home screen aren't there. I only have the single grid icon and not the set of 3 with the browser and phone. And i'm not sure where to go from here. I want to be able to log into my gmail account and the android marketplace. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Assuming you verified you have Data Connection enabled and have the proper APN settings::::
Your seller may have rooted the phone without necessarily unlocking the bootloader. see

Also, the link I just added shows the different versions of 2.2 (missing a couple) but FRE74 doesn't look like one of them.
First find out if it is a rooted phone, Check the app drawer for any SuperUser or Spareparts icon. That or try installing Busybox from the marketplace and executing it.
If it is rooted,flash one of the many ROMS available on XDA, Cyanogen just released his beta version tonight. Personally I use Enomther Rom. Official version is out.
And BTW, read up on the process of flashing... most require you to wipe first.
and if it is not rooted....
All you need to do is do a Factory Reset
Settings / Privacy / Factory Data Reset
After that check what your Build number is.
Then you can go to your dialler and enter
*#*#checkin#*#*
What that will do is connect your phone to the Google servers, say hello, and the server will send the update to your phone. (Force OTA - Over The Air update)
My data connection is working, I browse the internet fine except for the youtube app and gmail.com. When I go to gmail.com through my browser I get "a secure data connection could not be established." But yahoomail and flickr logins work fine on both wifi and 3g. No superuser or spareparts icons in the drawer. I can't access the android marketplace since I cannot log into my google account. I did the factory restore and the build number is the same. I did the checkin from my dialer and it said "checkin failed"
So it seems like the phone is rooted but I just need to flash a rom with the froyo features I want. Any links or guides to doing this? I read and superboot seemed like the easiest way.
Sounds to me like an issue with radio... flash a new radio might do the trick. However, before I start messing around with the radio not knowing anything about my phone, I'd look into doing this first.

This will bring your Nexus One back to it's original shipping rom. It's gonna be alot of work, BUT this IS almost a $600 phone.
So I followed those directions and i'm back on android 2.1 and i can log into my google and everything seems to work fine. I want to update to 2.2 so I go to system updates, download the update, and install. But during the install process it shows the little box with the android and the loading bar but it stops and goes to the android and the exclamation point. I'm not sure what to do from here. My Build Number is ERD79
Hold Volume up and press Power (or possibly the other way around). That should bring up the recovery menu.
I tried once with the OTA update I downloaded, the phone restarted and tried to install by itself but went to the android with the !. So I download a froyo rom and rename it update.zip, not .zip.zip. And put it on my phone, I'm in the blue recovery screen and it says signature error. I'm thinking its the wrong rom i'm using.

Samsung Galaxy S - backing up and updating firmware issues - Please Help!

I have a Samsung Galaxy S and I want to back it up and update it to the latest version of software.
I have download Kies, but when I load it, the Firmware Information area says the following:
"This version of the devive cannot be updated"
"Current firmware version: PDA:JF3/PHONE:JF3/CSC:JE5 (ORA)"
I have tried Googling for an answer and tried Samsung's useless support area on their website but cannot find a solution.
Can anyone help? I seem to be able to backup my contacts, but not apps, or upgrade the software version.
I have various glitches and bugs when using my phone that I would hope this software would iron out. These include, phone not loading some apps, screen freezing, blank screen appears and only way to reset is to take battery out, loses connection to SD card so wont load gallery, wont allow an extra Google account to be added...
It seems to have some serious problems. Can anyone help?

Why would there not be an update of Android for the Galaxy S? There has been news about it being out so this doesnt make sense.

I said and Kies says no update for your branded phone whoever you bought it from has not yet updated the firmware .
Pointless now as 2.3 due for release soon .

I think Im unfortunate enough to have one of the first batch of Orange UK Galaxy S's which have issues with the Kies software and are, according to Orange "un-updateable".
Samsung are working on a fix but its a Kies issue apparently.
If I factory reset, I will lose everything. I have backed up contacts, I can sort images, videos ect easily, but how do I back up apps? There is no option for this in Kies?

[Q] Not able to sign into Android Market

I recently purchased a used Galaxy S i9000 unlocked (from 3 UK). I'm currently using it in India. I updated it to official froyo via kies immediately after buying.
I'm not able to sign into Android Market using google account. It gives the famous errors like :
Could not establish a reliable connection to google servers
The service Google services framework has stopped unexpectedly ...
An error has occured. Please try again ...
I have googled a lot for the solution and I have tried many solutions including :
Factory data reset
Clearing caches of application
but none of them is working for me ...
Is there anyone who is facing a similar problem and has solved it successfully ? Is it something related to the network lock and/or branding of 3 UK ? (But it's already unlocked)
Can the problem be solved if I update to Android 2.3 ??

I had already tried that trick. The sync account is successfully created and the sync in gmail is working properly, but the Market still shows "An error has occured".

Some people on the Android Forums said they fixed it with a battery pull.
Another possible solution: Go to Settings -> Accounts & Sync and ensure that the Background Data box ("Applications can sync, send and receive data at any time") is checked.
SGS Tools market fix .

The battery pull didn't work. Can you describe the method in detail ?
And the 'Background Data' box is already ticked.

Do i need to root the device to run SGS Tools ?
Also I read on some forum that market fix is removed from newer version on SGS tools. He mentioned something about editing of .prop file ? Can u describe it in detail ?

I'm now on my second SGS i9000 and although its a great phone I have had the same problem with both phones - Android market access does not work - either via 3G or via WiFi. I either get download unseucessful or the download starts and then stops with no install.... Doing a factory reset on both devices means I am able to download and install apps for 10 minutes or so before I am back to square 1 and both handsets refuse to download.
Inserting my SIM into yet another android phone (a Sony Ericsson X10a) sees access to the market and app downloads working fine.. any ideas? No access to the Android market pretty much makes the SGS i9000 about as usefulas a brick..
I've cleared caches and done all the usual stuff including soft and hard resets but to no avail....Any and all help would be hugely appreciated!

You may want to take a Nandroid backup then try a new ROM, maybe from Doc's Kitchen or something simple. Consensus of opinion seems to be that the only good way to fix a broken market is to install a new ROM.
Are you on stock currently?
It is indeed a stock ROM - very frustrating....

[Q] Can't connect to Twitter?

I'm in Canada, on Bell. using the baseband version i9000UGJL2. Its not rooted or anything.
it started yesterday, but I can't connect to twitter, through apps, or even through the web browser. It will work if I have the phone on Wifi, but it won't work on 3G/HSPA. All other apps and websites work fine.
There's appearantly a new firmware out, but Kies won't let me update to it. I tried using the registry editor to force the update, but when the process starts, it stops and says its not available for my firmware version.
I had to use Kies (older version back around the new year) & the 1.7 reg editor to force update to froyo. Is there anything else I can do with what I've got? Or do I need to look into rooting it? I'm kind of new to all this, so any help would be appreciated. TIA
What new firmware ??
Most likely a Twitter/ your Twitter account /settings problem as its both an app and web problem .
Rooting will not help that's only gaining administrator rights over your phone .
