Unlock screen bypass? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wiping a smudge off the capacitive buttons and accidentally discovered that I could bypass the Android unlock and Rotary unlock by simply swiping either left to right or right to left across all four buttons. Is this something thats built into the phone itself or could it be a flaw with the ROM i'm running or maybe the non stock unlocks? I have searched the forum and google and can't seem to find any info on this, maybe somebody here knows the answer. ROM info in my sig is current if anybody wants to try and duplicate.
Thx

umm which rom? and are you talking about the 4 white buttons at the bottom? swipe them with the screen on?
cus swiping accross the 4 buttons didnt work for me with phoenix 4.5 with epic unlock screen, android unlock screen, or the samsung

yeah the 4 nav buttons under samsung logo. andromeda 2.1 weird, it just bypasses either the android unlock or the new rotary unlock..

I can bypass it with just the menu button.

Sure enough! I'm just curious as to whether it's supposed to do it..

could be a rom thing. doesn't work on mine!

this is code in the android.policy.jar. according to some, it is actual AOSP, i dont know.
i do know it was not intentionally left in in the rom release. we will look at it.

Running Cog 3.04 and pressing just menu button unlocks phone also.

trackball scrolling between home screens

Ok so i've got a rooted Nexus One... had it for about a week... messin around with some roms and I like Cyanogen. But while trying out the Desire port I noticed when you use the trackball to move between home screens pretty easily. Is there anyway I could do that with Cyanogen?
Yeah I really love this in Sense roms too, but the simple answer is no.
Android 1.6 has the "AdvancedLauncher" replacement that can hide the titles on home screen shortcuts and make them essentially invisible to trackball selection. This way, there is nothing for the trackball to highlight and it just jumps whole screens. I have not seen that on 2.x yet.
HelixLauncher has the option to hide text label now but it still allows the trackball to highlight icons, and this prevents the jump from screen to screen.
So far, you can only have this feature on a Sense UI rom. Personally, I'm rocking the Desire rom!
I am on Cy 5.0.6 and I can use the trackball to navigate through all my home screen pages
Hold down on the app drawer button. Flash cards will pop up, you can use trackball from there.

Oh dang I didn't even remember that! I'm not fully proficient with the new UI yet, I haven't had my Nexus too long. So that's another alternative.
I, however, prefer not to have any orange highlights on anything on the home screen at all. This is why I like the Sense way of doing it.

After doing all that I might as well just use my finger and flip normally between screens lol
I was just hoping there might be an app or something that I could just scroll left or right without worrying about going from icon1-to-icon2-to-icon3-to-icon4 THEN to the next screen and doing it all over again.

How to wake phone up with trackball?

Hey all,
Anyone know what I need to do to make it where I can press my trackball to wake my phone instead of the top button? Thanks a lot!

you have to have a custom rom installed in order to do this, the standard vanilla android will not allow you to do this.

Installing CyanogenMod would accomplish what you are asking for.
please post this in the correct forum next time
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=603
Actually most if not all lock screen replacements do this if you don't want to root.. though you are losing your lock screen for some crappy alternative.
Thanks for the advice...I will put it in Q&A next time my bad sorry!
I just manually installed Froyo 2.2 FRF72 on my N1...I heard there is a prerooted rom you can install but I think its Modaco only? Do you think Cyan will release something like this soon thats prerooted cause I would love to get some cyan and have the trackball thing working!
THANKS for your comments!

Think Cyanogen is going to be away this week but cm6 test0 is being tested somewhere It will come soon enough
No need to root your N1, just install [Lockbot Pro v1.14.1.apk]
Lockbot Pro can wake up your phone by pressing trackball or volume keys
You can also try "No Lock", which is free.
It removes the need to slide to unlock and also allows Trackball and Volume Keys wake.
It also has a widget for a quick activation of the normal waking, so the phone doesn't wake all the time when it's in your pocket.

FlyScreen is another. And this is the third "how do I wake by tracbkall?" thread I've seen in a few weeks....

Thanks vitorjna for the info
I just stumbled on this thread by accident but your suggestion is really appreciated!
I'd always hate having my Nexus One music going in my car and having to go through the unlock screen if I wanted to skip a song. I even started using Cubed music player since it has a lockscreen widget but the music player itself is pretty bad. Now I can go back to using the regular music player that I like more without having to worry about driving unsafe.
No Lock works but I don't want my Lock Screen removed, I just want wake with trackball.
Flyscreen is crap, I don't want the widgets so I removed them but now I get an update thing every time I get to the lockscreen.
Is there any app like No Lock but with lockscreen?

The way these programs work is that they dismiss the system keyguard (Because the keyguard is what prevents the phone from waking when the trackball is pressed). This is done by creating a window with FLAG_DISMISS_KEYGUARD. Then the system keyguard is gone and the app can either close, leaving no keyguard (Like no lock), or act as a pseudo keyguard (like flyscreen). There is no way to force the system keyguard to activate again after it's dismissed.
Cyanogen's method is better because it's a custom rom.
If you want to try another lockscreen I can recommend my own WidgetLocker, which has Easy Wake (trackball wake) and has slide to unlock and won't try to download widget updates (It uses actual Android Widgets, not those flyscreen ones, so you can control your music from the lockscreen or put BetterHome there or whatever).

I find I like no lock the best for the moment. Most times I dont want the lock feature but when I do its one tap of the 1x1 widget and its on. One tap and its off on the flipside. Used it on cm as well since I prefer the volume rocker to wake.

Hello,
can you tell me how to setup lockbot pro to wake up when I press the trackball? after a while, nothing I do will turn on my N1, except for the power button. and I hate using the power button to turn on my phone.
Thanks
I've tried "No Lock" and it works well. However its unable to unlock when "pin/password" is enabled.(forced by my exchange email account)
Anyone know of something that can bypass this too ?

Cog 3.04 + swype unlock

Ok.. so recently flashed to the new cog 3.04 and noticed that they took out the "swype to unlock" if that is the correct term for it (sorry still brand new iwth my phone... i noticed they had it in the original one and then they put the stock unlock back in for 3.04... is there a way to change a setting so that i can just swype the screen to unlock instead of having to use the stock slidebar thing??? just curious if that is possible or would it require flashing to one of their older ones or wait and see if a new one they release adds it back?
Go to settings/Locations and Security/Change Screen Lock and select Pattern
Thanks for the reply coastal but I wasn't meaning the pattern portion.. sorry if I am describing it wrong when i say swype.. i mean in a way "flick" your screen.. like if you go to the Cog 3.04 page and at the bottom their is that review that is done showing the cog3 vs the cog 2 and one of the comparisons is unlocking the 2 where cog2 uses the "stock unlock slide bar" and how cog3 uses the swype screen.. basically can swype your finger in any direction from one side to the other to unlock as apposed to having to take that green button on left and sliding it to the right..
hope maybe that describes a little better what I am refering too.. but the pattern seems interesting as well.. might try it out to see if i like it /

[Q] Add NavBar to unresponsive screen

Hi Guys,
The bottom of my screen (about 5mm) has become unresponsive to touch. In previous ROM's I've got around this by adding a navbar to the bottom of the screen which I don't use (as in the soft key buttons).
I've just installed a Sense 5 ROM (InsertCoin) and really like the feel of it, however I can't find any way to get the navbar at the bottom of the screen. Obviously as it's a sense rom, there is nothing in the settings, and I've tried putting qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 into the build.prop file but that has also not worked :/
Does anyone have a solution to this or a way to cut the bottom 5mm of the visible screen? Or even better, a way to get the bottom of the screen working?
Cheers,
Tom

If you're running 4.18.401.2 then you're in the wrong section, this is the One section not the One X.
Go over there and do a search for return to stock, you should find all the info you need.

Get rid of swipe screen?

From what I've read, there's no solution, but I won't accept it until I read it on XDA.
Pressing the power button when using pattern lock does not bring up the pattern lock screen. Instead there's a stupid swipe screen first.
Has a way been found to disable that swipe screen & go straight to the pattern lock screen?
I remember this first appeared with the Marshmallow update with my Note 5. Lots of people complained about it, don't think a fix was found. I just lived with it & now I'm used to it. In fact I totally forgot about it until reading your post.
OK. Let's try another approach.
While looking into this I learned that setting security to "None" works. Tried it, & it does seem to.
I need a lock, though. Sooo...what about using a third party swipe lock? Do any support Trusted Devices?
I have mine set up as swipe to unlock with a password, no pin, no pattern. I also use fingerprint and iris to unlock. Most of the time I also have a trusted device (Gear S2 watch) connected that prevents my phone from asking for the password. There is also a setting for unlocking with the home button instead of pressing the power button. Go to Settings: Display: Navigation bar: Unlock with home button. So for me, with my watch connected, I just hard press where the home button is on the screen and I'm unlocked, no swiping! You can use this with or without AOD.
LOL, I guess I'm having trouble even accepting a non solution from XDA.
Bumping for more ideas/solutions.
Can I maybe disable it with BK Disabler (if so, I haven't found a way).

The answer is in the post right above yours. Go to settings>display>navigation bar and turn on "Unlock with Home Button".
I get what that says, however, I use the LED cover. When opening the cover it powers on the phone. I want to open & unlock...not open, swipe, & unlock...not open, press, unlock.
Basically, the only way I've found to disable the swipe screen is to disable security completely. I want the lock, though.
Method on my Note 8, Android 7.1.1
Settings, Navigation Bar, set Unlock with Home button to on. After that if you hold the home button it will skip the swipe to unlock screen. For me it takes me to my pin screen directly.

I prefer the fingerprint. Mine is set up that even if it's showing the AOD, as soon as I press the fingerprint sensor, it's INSTANTLY unlocked and showing the home screen. By far the fastest way.

solution
...........you must have installed a third party free software, like mobogenie e.t.c,so go to your settings and find permissions in there you might find a permission regarding your lock screen dont allow any non-samsung apps access to it,and that should do it,lemme know if that did the trick.ciao..........( i copy this from another web site)
This works for me. I uninstall everything which I install today., becouse swipe screen start today.
Sorry for my bad english
hey... I'm lookin for a solution on this as well
android 4.3 and kitkat we didn't have fingerprint... but we didn't have to deal with swiping all the damn time every time we turned the screen off
this sucks... want to keep the screen fingerprint/pattern without the swipe to unlock bit
There is a very discrete menu button in the upper left hand corner of the first unlock screen. That will give you the option to turn it off.

This has been on basically every android phone since lollipop. just get used to it. There's no way to change it
I agree with OP; having two lock screens is dumb, especially with the secure one just being on a blank screen - no wallpaper.

You are incorrect My LG G4 running Marshmallow I was able to disable the stupid swipe first screen somehow... I know it's possible to do on my new to me LG V20 running Oreo.
I mean seriously you said "just get used to it" on XDA forums? The entire point of these forums was to customize our devices and not to accept the default. If I wanted somebody else to tell me what I wanted I'd be a sheep buying an iPhone.
The home button thing isn't working for me because my V20 doesn't have a home button and for security reasons I don't want to use fingerprint or facial recognition.

For security reasons? Are you scared your device sends your encrypted fingerprints and face image to Samsung so they can sell it to other people?
With every new device, especially from Samsung, and new iteration of Android, it becomes increasingly more difficult to change and mod things. Fewer and fewer mods are being made and become available with every new release. You can see it in the Xposed repository, as well. I doubt disabling the swipe-to-enter pin/password/pattern is very high on anyone's list of things to change. Most people have accepted it and gotten used to it. It's not really all that much of an inconvenience. It adds maybe half a second to the unlocking process.
If you want something that's quicker, just use the fingerprint scanner. Oh, wait...
I have this on the galaxy s7 active on nougat and I'm looking to get rid of it as well...
well Oreo update its gone... Oreo update also isn't very stable... how can I remove this on Nugat? even with root acess? while still keeping the stock security system?
