Awww. I want it now.
Sorry, didn't mean to get you all excited for nothing! Don't worry though, we'll definitely post once CM6 is released for any Galaxy S devices - that's something people will want to know

Will they release a version of the mod for the i9000 (the eu one not the vibrant)?

Obviously yes, since phones are almost identical (you can even cross-flash firmwares, but you have to be careful about it).
If and when CM6.1 comes out, this board will be a flurry of activity and you will definitely not miss it.
Also it will be stickied at the top of the board
has any tried it to see if it does work?

I am fairly new to Android ..But still heard the buzz about the fantastic cyanogen mods .. I also read that because of copyrights etc .. cyanogen mod do not contain google items ( market, gmail etc) ...Does that mean I can't use any of the googleprograms or can the be ( legaly) downloaded and installed in the rom ?
What makes the cyanogenmod so special that we even want that into our sweet SGS' ??

Although there's been some good answers already, what I'm particularly interested in is that the 6.x releases are all Froyo based which will bring a load of new amazing to the SGS, and depending on the CM release schedule, it may well in fact come to the galaxy BEFORE the official samsung froyo rom.
If that happens, it'll be a major coup for the CM guys, to not only be better than the stock rom, but to be dropping before samsung.
Froyo brings JIT and naitive apps2sd, which is awesome, as well as plenty of other goodies. The reason why the N1 recently jumped almost up to SGS levels on quadrant on 2.2 is because of JIT coding, so expect a pretty impressive jump in performance for us.
Also, there's the possibility that the CM rom will totally drop samsungs crappy slow ass proprietary file system that's caused so much woe for our devices, which translates into no need for lagfixes, and generally improved performance all around.
Thinking of streamlining stuff... No more bloatware, just the services and apps we need, which translates into better memory management, and so better stability and even better performance for multi-tasking.
Finally, no need for GPS fixes. CM should be coming with good, accurate and thoroughly tested gps code.
So yeah... All the joy of Froyo, minus the samsung junk, thats been developed by SGS users for SGS users. Might not see everything perfect in 6.1, but it will sure as hell be a leap forward. *straps myself in*

Judging by the thread over at the CM forums, yes, they've tried - they've also tried hacking it on, with no progress. It's not something you can easily just drop in. If you want the dirty tech details, head over http://www.cyanogenmod.com and check the SGS section of the forums. You'll see which thread.

Nice, I just can't wait to see the best hardware phone out there with the best software
Hello,
I have only had my N1 a few days and I am experiencing what I believe people refer to as "the wonk". What I am looking for is the most stable, rooted rom out there that has no such issues. I just want everything to work.
Should I downgrade back to CM6?
If I downgrade, do I have to change radios and/or HBOOT? I have upgraded these to the latest available.
Thanks for the info.
-D
Stable rom is cm6.1.1. I'm using that while cm7 tries to get stable and free of wonks.
Wonks only affect cm7.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Also note that the mic delays on incoming calls are a known gb issue and are not specific to cm as it is inherent in the stock Ota rom as well.
Thanks guys. I just noticed that this is in the incorrect forum. My apologies.
Mods, please delete or move to Q & A.
Thanks,

Why not just use DeWonkifier?
In my opinion, the "dewonkifier" is a band-aide and not a fix. I would prefer the phone have as clean and bug free code as possible.
I'll install CM7 when the wonk issues are corrected.
The gingerbread base doesnt offer enough for me to sacrifice usability of my phone.
I am disappointed that I upgraded from an Aria to an N1 and have to downgrade the software. I expected the N1 to have everything work perfectly since its the original flagship phone for Google.

Well the only thing holding back your nexus is you!. For my nexus the only bug is the 2 second delay and I can live with that. Dewonkificator ftw
Btw, CM7 is available for your aria too.
Cyan 6.1 is super stable and smooth, and fast. Its also much more feature complete right now over cyan 7. They are still bringing all the features over to 2.3. So its a very good experience using cyan 6 right now.

I actually found CM7 with Launcher PRO to be buttery smooth, more so than CM6. My quadrant score dropped a little, but who cares. No wonk for me though.

i find cyan 6 smoother though. my quadrant scores dropped a good bit on cyan 7, but also things scroll laggy like tapatalk threads, certain long lists, handcent threads, etc. these were smooth in froyo. though i agree launcher pro homescreens are buttery smooth on cyan 7. its just other things arent for me.
Who in anyone’s opinion makes the best Honeycomb port for the Nook Color?
I know CM7 is out there and I use it for my phone, I think it’s awesome on my phone and will probably be great on the Nook as well.
Are their any other good ports for 2.3 or especially 3.0?
Right now, we have:
an official CM7 rom.
and HC rom from madcat & deeper blue.
I am endlessly happy that we have such awesome devs working on so few roms. I got sick of the G1 threads blowing up with roms that tended to break more things than they fixed.
Just look for the most recently updated threads in the dev section.
HC is based of sdk, btw.

IMO since BC is not officially released, you will always be dealing with a not fully ready version. The dev's are doing great work with it but it is not a daily driver unlike cm7

Yeah. Seems the more recent nightlies are having trouble with wifi. Should be fixed.
Also, so everyone is on the same page, the bootloader will be flashed as well, so that should help a lot of people out.
Also audio and video hiccups will be fixed.
It's all here. Bookmark and read along!

I liked DB's HC version, and the version before the recent release of madcat's where the SD card stopped working personally, I couldn't get used to the softkeys from the other versions.
I'd like to echo the responses above that suggest sticking with CM7 as a daily driver for now. HC is coming along nicely, and I do install the latest on an SD card every now and then to check out the progress, but it's really not "done" enough to use every day. CM7 is. The occasional nightly hiccup aside, it's definitely feature-complete enough for daily use.

Theoretically, yes......However it is still a "nightly" build and hasn't been labeled as stable....Some things could be fixed and other stuff could have broken in the process (don't know that's the case, just saying it's a possibilty.)

Yeah, I know we are idiots. All of our releases have been unstable, full of bugs and missing nearly every feature one could wish for. Please excuse us, but we really can't do any better. The fact that all ROMs that are not based off RUUs are CyanogenMod rip-offs should clearly tell you that we just can't get anything right at all.

You guys don't pay attention to the experimental thread do you? Seriously, over 160 attempts at a nightly build and still nothing that performs up to par with ogo2's 2.3.3 Sense UI ROM. Sure his is lacking WiFi AP functionality, but I can live with that.
I love how you call everyone elses' ROM a rip-off of a CM ROM. Get a life guys, no one would attempt to use your builds unless said person was extremely lazy.

I know I'm wasting my time here and I really don't care anyway.
Still I think I have to clarify that I'm not talking about people using some "builds". I'm talking about the source code.
If you want to build a ROM for the Legend (and nearly every other device out there) you've got two choices: Push some files from official releases (RUUs) around and zip them, or compile from source.
As a matter of fact there's no project out there that releases working source code (for anything but Google's official devices) except for CyanogenMod.
Video encoding or decoding? msm* support? Backported code for ancient libcamera, libril and framework support for said ancient libraries? GPS backport or implementation? Kernel backports for Gingerbread? Yeah, good luck finding that somewhere else (no, I don't mean the CAF repositories where we are copying from and giving credit of course).

"Get a life"? Come on, don't be ridiculous.
MD5-sums can be quite revealing by the way. Or boot messages (like "Welcome to CyanogeMod" in MIUI). Some people were even charging for shady rip-offs – that's why the CM team ultimately decided to close down development and switch to "release when it's done".

Sorry, but you didn't understand the concept of a nightly build? There are no "attempts at a nightly build" and they are not even meant for users. Nightly builds are there to see if current code in the repositories still compiles. Nothing else.

Unfortunately not only for the Legend but for most other devices too.
Android was said to be open but in fact it's just proprietary crap again. No developer wants to spend months doing the work of forty CM devs, so they either join CM – or sometimes steal their work declaring it as their own – or use (or combine) binaries from official releases.
If you didn't care, you would be in other developers threads attacking their attempts at making something that just may work better than what you're pushing out.
Face the facts; People want more choices other than CM. I am willing to admit that CM 6.1 was a damn good ROM when it came out, but I can't for life of me figure out why you guys can't live up to the same expectations with CM7.
I have been testing the NewSense 1.0 RC's (HTC Salsa ROM) for some time, and I as I said; Without the lack of AP support, it works well and does not have the crash prone problems that I have seen with 7.0.3, and 7.1 RC1.

Their earlier releases certainly used CM sources with modified framework and apps. I don't know what they are doing now – but as they don't release their sources I can accuse them of using modified CM source code as much as I want without ever being able to prove it so I refrain from doing that.
If you are interested, the UltimateDroid soap opera is a good read by the way.

Instead of making vague accusations you could have filed bug reports a long time ago. CM is a community project and nothing without its community.
It sometimes still makes me sad that for some people whining doesn't seem to be a problem but as soon as it comes to writing a good bug report they come up with various excuses.

I'm not downplaying or dismissing CM. Just trying to understand why it's so popular.

This CM10 Preview is a VERY basic build, and will probably not have as much of the added functionality that CM9 would have (this is something I assume as I have not flashed this ROM yet). CM allows you much more control over customizing your device by adding more options under Settings, and also by including tweaks / fixes / new features. Things such as themes, Advanced Power Menu, more control over navigation bar, themes (yes I said that twice for a reason ), different launcher.
It also, in many cases, can make your device more responsive / faster by removing a lot of the 'bloatware' and unnecessary background apps that some manufacturers out in their ROMs.
Gotcha. Thanks for the rundown.
They would have a hard time to get me to use CM again, I once had a so-called "stable" build of CM 7.03 on my Desire last year and it had to be rebooted almost every day to fix a glitch here or there, presumably because of all the hacks/tweaks they use. Problems went away after going to a pure AOSP ROM.
Remember this is just a preview.

Heh, jk. Looks absolutely fabulous!!! I'm continuously blown away by the CM team. I can't wait until this is stable enough for a daily driver. This is my first tablet so I can be a little more daring. Nightly are almost always stable enough, but now that I have a phone AND a tablet it'd be all right to tinker even more so with the tablet.
This won't be good for my flashing addiction. We need a support group for all the married dudes with upset spouses lol

The ONLY difference between a nightly kang and an 'official' build will be cherry-picked features that have not been added to the official version. Usually, these are small tweaks that will within a week or two be added to the official releases.
There are no other differences. Stability will, almost inevitably, be the same between the two.

Cyanogen Mod has come a long way. CM is in 7.2 stage for the Desire HD at the moment. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Not once have I gotten a force close a random reboot or any other issues on CM7.2. Just because you have one bad issue, doesn't mean it should stop you from using their other roms. Remember you flash custom roms at your own risk and the word customer should make you expect issues here and there. :cyclops:
