[Q] Cant see SD card as storage on my computer - HD7 General

I need some help here. Just bought a HTC HD7 but I cant see the SD card on my computer so I can import/export files. The card shows in Zune but Zune wont transfer files except music/video/pictures
Can anyone help me with this issue? I really appreciate it

That's the way it is with WP7, sorry. Not limited to the HD7.
You essentially have two primary options.
1. jailbreak/root your phone.
2. use cloud storage such as SkyDrive for non media documents. You get 25 gigs of storage with your live account, but unfortunately at this time individual files are limited to 50 megs.
ebooks for example, I use DropBox for cloud storage and the Freda ereader, which can connect to dropbox accounts.
You have another option for office docs and that is a sharepoint site.

Storage issues
Hi Jimbonics and thanks for your fast reply. Maybe is not the right site to ask however how do I jailbreak/root my phone? Is there a website to show u step by step or at least some instructions?
Thanks again for your help

You can follow the advice of whynot2007 in this post. Even though it refers to PDF's, it gets you access to your SD card. I've never done it, so....

Don't know quite sure what you meant by "define" - but if you are referring to the option in messaging that allows you to save attachments on storage card, I believe it does - for the downloaded raw mail data, but not when you click the attachment and perform the save operation. You still have to choose a folder anyway, and the default is naturally "my documents".

SSH Client for Tilt & General File Installation Question

Hi Guys,
I am a bit of a newbie (just got the phone yesterday), so I have a few basic questions -- please bare with me.
1) Has anyone setup an SSH client on their HTC Kaiser/AT&T Tilt? If so what is a good client to get? Is PuTTYPocket good or one of the clients from the OpenSSH project? Is there a preferred one or one that's known to work better?
2) Second item is.. where do most people choose to install all of there files and applications? For example, right now I have a 1 GB MicroSD card in the phone. Are there certain things I should try and save/install directly to the phone and others that should go on the MicroSD card? Should everything go on the MicroSD card?
3) Is a 1GB MicroSD card enough? Obviously if I want lots of little movies or mp3 files I will run into a limit -- but that aside.. say if I choose to put on the SSH client, some other apps, TomTom 6.0 etc. Do I need more?
Thanks for any assistance.

I'm interested in these questions as well. This is my first Windows Mobile device and it is unclear if some applications "need" to be on the device storage as it is on PalmOS. Are there pros/cons to device storage vs. memory card? Maybe there is an "idiot's guide to storage on WM" out there...
As for SSH, I've downloaded several and tested them a bit, but have not made a decision yet. Thus far, I've tried pocketputty, zaTelnet Pro, MobileVT, and mToken, with pocketputty being the worst, mToken the best, and the others about the same. I'm not as happy with any of them as the application pssh I was using on Palm, however.
usually programs that kind of directly deal with the phone and are accessed alot. go on the phone.
tomtom which has large files for maps stick on the memory card.
cant help you with the other ques.
I use and like PocketTTY, but there is also a java script that works nice. I'll attach and believe it's freeware, if not, a mod can delete.
As far as where to put programs, that is of course, subjective. For me it depends on how much memory the device has, how big a card you have and how much space is needed for the programs you wish. Also, what all do you wish to have with you? Music, video, games, etc....that has to be taken into consideration. Being this is the Kaiser/Tilt section, we have 128mb for storage with a little more than 100mb for personal programs, and capacity for up to 8gb on the card. On my 8525 I had everything on a 2gb card and left as much room on the PDA as I could. This time I think I'll put all the programs on the PDA and use the card for everything else. We'll see how it goes.

Activesync to 8gb microsd

before anyone says it... i have searched the forums and cant find a registry hack to do this. all i can find is advoce such as , get Mobsynch or another programme. I dont want to do this.
has anyone got any better ideas?
cheers
What's your problem with it? Are you trying to sync everything to your mem card?
sync to card
yep- i need to be able to synch all my work desktop to my card
I have 8Gb card, and have no problems syncing with it,
I use vista though, well, server 2008 with mobile device center.
Just moving this thread to the Kaiser regular forum as it does not have a development aspect.
Mike
no help!
i'm sure this was possible on the tytn.
just need active sync to sync desktop file to my sd card. how do i do this. there must be a registry hack.

[Q] Can't see SD Card

Hi
Just a quick question. Running WM7 on HTC HD2 but I can't see my SD card or any settings to get to it.
Is there any obvious setting I've missed.
You won't see it as such as it's effectively incorporated into the WP7 file system. You can tweak your PC's registry to make the device appear in Windows Explorer, which gives you limited access to folders, but you really need to use Zune or email to put files onto the device - the card doesn't work quite like it used to in terms of portable storage.
I understand schapps is working on a WP7 'Device Centre' that may help with some aspects of this - should be released following the forthcoming WP7 update.
Thanks for info.
After install I only have 64MB of data storage left. Therefore I can't install aps or take pic's etc so looks like Android for me then.
Hi,
I had the same problem few days agot...
I tried two of my sd cards, and it didn't work, so I bought a new one, and re install my hd2, then it worked...
You can try to reformat the card with SDFormatter, maybe it could help!
But you have to hard reset your phone when you change your sd card.

How to read pdf files on wp7?

Hello i instaled the acrobat reader on my HTC HD7 and i changed the registry setings on my computer so i can use the hd7 as a external hard drive and i then uploaded some pdf files to read on the mobile phone but the acrobat reader cant find them! what im i doing wrong?
thank you
Cloud storage via SkyDrive. Hacking your phone to allow you to transfer files to it doesn't help the program access those files, since those programs weren't written to behave in that manner.
Or you could email them as attachments.
true, i tought about that but they are big files about 65 megabytes or biger
Those are some big PDF's you could try dropbox.
Easy, just use Windows Live Mesh to sync 'em to your skydrive, then point your phone's browser to the skydrive website and open them, the PDF viewer will automatically save them to your phone.
Thank you very much i will try that ;-)
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
You might actually encounter a problem here, because if I'm not mistaken, SkyDrive limits file sizes to 50 megs...
Also, for FAST access to your SkyDrive, once you log into it on your phones browser, Pin the webpage to your Start. Then it's just a single tap on your home screen to access SkyDrive.

Where'd you hear that???
Your main SkyDrive online storage has a 50 MB file size limit.
Your SkyDrive sync'd storage doesn't have a file size limit but only has 5 GB of online storage. So in order to take advantage of your sync'd storage, you need to use Windows Live Mesh to sync your files/folders.

That's exactly what I recommended to the OP. :O)
Dang, that looks cool as all get out. Too bad it isn't available on XP
Why is the storage size different though? I appear to have 25 gigs of storage. Or is it just a limitation of what you can sync through Live Mesh?

Unfortunately there's lots of stuff that's not supported on XP, such as IE9.
My understanding is that your Skydrive limit is 25GB for data that is synced there via Live Mesh. For files placed there manually you have a 5GB limit. I think.
Anyways, upgrade to Windows 7 if you can, it's SO much better than XP. Live Mesh rocks, I use it to keep my laptop synced to my desktop so both machines have an exact replica of all my data. If anything changes on either machine, it ripples across to the other one straight away. Awesome.
