Newbie here...
I got my Nook Color a few days ago, rooted using auto-nooter 3.0.0
It's running 1.1.0 and so far the experience has been pretty good.
One question tho has to do with syncing the calendar with my google calendars. Right now I am able to sync with a public calendar, but I can't find a way for the calendar to use my google gmail credentials to sync with my non-public calendars (altho when I go into the calendar app -> Setting -. My Calendars the list of calendars that I subscribe to in my gmail account show up, which means to me that it has connected once to get this info).
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I'va the same problem.
Someone know how to resolve this problem please ?
Thanks
(sorry for my english, i speek french)
If you open your gmail app and add your google account again, it will give you the option to sync the calander at the end.

I cannot thank you enough! This is one of the biggest things I was looking to get resolved, and what a straightforward solution! I've modded my DX and feel totally comfortable working with it and CWR, but I'm really struggling with the NC and this is a win for me as I make small steps in my understanding. Thanks again
I installed Calengoo, which I have also used on my iPod Touch to sync with Google Calendar seamlessly

Wohooo! Thanks!!! Amazing!
Keep in mind that to KEEP it synced, you'll need to use Synker or some other similar application. It won't sync automatically. There's a few threads with people saying they've managed to make it work one way or another, but I've never managed it myself.

Mine is actually appearing to sync automatically!
I'll look into Synker though - sounds useful. Thanks for the tip!

So you add an event on the web side and it syncs automatically to the NC? Damnit, why can't I get this to work.... You're using stock B&N rom with auto nooter or other rooting process, right?

Correct. I had to double check this today, and yes, it works! I add something on my computer (using a web browser) into Google Calendar, and almost immediately it shows up in the calendars of my Nook Color and Nexus One.
I'm using the stock ROM (1.1.0) with auto nooter (3.0.0). I followed the instructions above to re-add the Gmail account, and automagically the calendar started auto-syncing! (I have Touch Calendar, but also Jorte and Calendar Pad installed, but I don't think that has anything to do with it?)
I hope you will get yours to work too, and I'll be happy to answer any more questions you have.

In Gmail I can build several lists of tasks, and name these as I want to.
I can easily add tasks to each list, and simply click them to mark them as "completed".
The GREAT thing is, that the exact same lists are available directly on my Hero, AND with the exact same features as in the web-version
But, unfortunately, there is no option in Gmail, to share any of these task-lists with somebody else.
If that was possible, the task-lists in Gmail would become a fabulous tool. Just imagine that you could share and "realtime-sync" a shoppinglist with your wife. And other tasklists with collegues etc.?
2 Android units could go shopping in separate warehouses, and NOT come home with "2 of a kind".
Ideas anyone? Or is there an Android developer out there, who can see the potential in this idea?
How do you access your Gmail Tasks on your hero? What app are you using?
I connect through Gmail in my browser:
http://mail.google.com/tasks/android
It keeps logged in to my regular Google account, and gives me direct acces the various lists, I made here.
couldn't make soemone a app ? that also can be used as a widget it would be very nice. i looked for a long time but couldn't find it there where apps that said it would sync with gmail but it was synced with calander and not tasks.

Well, in my case, the sync between tasks work perfectly.
What I need is a way to share a task-list in the same way as I can share a calendar...
Thanks for the tip, but I have to agree with commodoor. The sync works ok as long as you are connected to the internet, once you disconnect you are left in the cold. An app that will allow you to work on your tasks off-line and sync only whenever you want would be useful. Sharing will be also a plus!
Right now i'm using google calendar also for my tasks, only that i can sync it with my phone and viceversa

Much too complicated to set-up properly, and sharing a list is a PITA!

if astrid synced with google task it would be a great app. and astrid doesn't have a widget.

Yeah - that looks nice.
But that is not, what I'm looking for. The native Google Tasks already does this.
The problem is, that Google Tasks can't be shared, like the calendar does.
yes you can share task lists

Does anybody know how to get the birthdays of your contacts to sync with your calender?

Something has to put the birthday in the calendar. If you sync with Exchange, and set up your contacts wtih Birthdays, Outlook will add them to the calendar. Google doesn't do this, but there are some tools to do it:
http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2009/07/birthday-calendar-for-google-contacts.html
Since Facebook doesn't have a calendar, I see no way to do it automatically. All the above methods rely on the contact app to talk to the calendar app within one application suite.
If you have Google/Gmail contacts and you have all their birthday information entered there. The easiest way is to go to Google calendar on a desktop. Then you would go to the Calendar settings, click on the Calendars link, and then click where it says to "Browse interesting calendars". This will take you to a page where it has the options for Holidays, Sports, or More. If you click more, there is a "Contacts' birthdays and events" calendar that you can subscribe to. Once subscribed, you can then select it as one of the calendars to sync on your phone to the calendar app.
Sounds complicated and maybe it is for some, but it was not for me. Hope this helps.
"EboBirthday" from Android Market does exactly what you're looking for perfectly and you don't have to worry about syncing with anything outside of the contact list on your phone.

well... kind of...
when you turn your phone off, and turn it back on... all the birthdays dissappear from the calender and you have to run EBOBIRTHDAY again... which takes a few minutes if you have a lot of contacts...
ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS?
Hmm. This didn't happen to me and I've had it practically since the phone came out

Meh. I still prefer the Google contacts and calendar method.
Captivate w/ XDA App
i've noticed recently that when i receive a gmail chat on my computer it also shows up on my captive.
i use pidgin for my computer and would prefer most of my gmail chat to go though the computer.
is there a way to disable it from coming up on the captive?
my gmail account is linked, but only syncs when i tell it to.
thanks
Log out of talk on your phone. You won't get the notifications that way
where do you do that? i don't see an app other than gmail.
is it in messaging? or somewhere in settings?
thanks

open talk app on phone go to options->more->sign out!!!
this should work as it worked for me. If not get task pane or task killer to kill talk running in background.
but I think first method should work because i tried stopping emails by killing gmail app running in background it never worked.
Signing out if talk worked.
Thanks fir the help

omg, this was seriously too easy. lol. i have been trying to figure this out for the last two days.
now that talk, market, etc seem working...it seems calendar is the last hole to plug.
the 3rd party apps i have like pure calendar and touch calendar can't find anything.
is there already a fix for this or still a WIP?
Latest version of Auto-Nooter includes the calendar app, but it will not sync with the Google servers. I hope someones working on it, but then again, I hope those with the expertise are working on a full blown ROM for us to upgrade too.
There was some discussion about this awhile back.
Here is a post with files that work for me
(I have a fully functional calendar, albeit restricted to one gmail account, and I have CalWidget set up).

Thanks for this info.. I will most likely re-root with the newest nooter and hopefully all will sync in one fell swoop.. I sideloaded the calendar apk's, so there might not be any info pushing to the syncd cloud correctly.

All of my calendars from my main gmail account sync fine, but I cannot access calendars on my other Gmail accounts.
Can you see those using the apps provided by the Autonooter-2.12.15?

If you have the accounts set up correctly and the apk's in place, you should have no problems syncing. ... Puzzling ...
Can you see your accounts in Google Books or Google Reader?
I'm having strange synching issues.
I grabbed both apks from the link above...the 2nd set.
placed them in system/app using Root explorer.
Rebooted. Now i have Calendar in the app tray.
I have one main Calendar and 2 Other Calendars (Wife's and Facebook events).
All linked under my gmail account.
In the calendar settings I do see all of these...however seeing that they are arranged alphabetically...my Wife's name goes on top...so hers are the only events that are being displayed.
So is it still ONLY ONE calendar can be displayed at a time? I do see all of them...and I can check/uncheck as I please to select... but would really like to view all...
Did i use the correct set of APKs?
and for some background.
I rooted with Supernooter.
Then got gapps using Auto_nook0.8 Autoconfig process.
Everything's working as desired except this calendar synching issue...and it'd be ideal not having to go through a newer Root process from scratch again...Thanks
Anyone have the calender apk out the the "auto-nooker"?

I am now also noticing strange behavior:
Initially, I rooted with nooter-2 and installed GApps/Market and Calendar separately (as was done at the time).
I am noticing that, although the initial sync picked up all the calendars from my login Gmail account, new events are synced only from Nook to Google server.
Importantly, I cannot sync new events to Nook from my Google calendars!
Also, and, at this point, a minor issue: my other Gmail accounts are not harvested for calendars (likely because there is no provision for this during "Add Account" dialog).
Can anyone please check on their Nooks whether new events get added to their calendars when created on devices other than the Nook?
If anyone succeeds: what was your root and Calendar installation methods?
Thanks.
Updates: the same is true for me with Autonooter-2.12.15 and Autonooter-2.12.18 (FW1.0.1).

I have this problem also. Initial sync worked fine, but I'm not seeing newly added events.
There doesn't seem to be a way to force a sync...
It seems that one peculiar difference with my phone's Calendar operation is that on the Nook the service called "Calendar Storage" (com.android.providers.calendar) is not running.
Anybody have any ideas? Does this possibly explain lack of ongoing synchronization?
I have dabbled a bit in different versions of Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk from different Roms, but had no luck. The apks from cm-5.0.8 are the only ones that work as well as we have seen.
There is a free app (Business Calendar Beta) that has an effective "Sync now" function.
This thing triggers the latent calendar sync with the Google servers.
... Unfortunately, it is just a "Band-Aid" for this lack-of-syncing problem, but ... nevertheless.

In a similar vein, I got "Syncer Widget" to work, so I just put the widget next to the calendar widget to remind me to sync every now and then.
Just don't click on the choice to go to Android accounts and sync, as that rebooted my NC.
I did a complete wipe (system and user data) then autonooter w/ 1.01 firmware; not issues w/ my calendar syncing, but I only have one google account.

Do you mean that when you add an event on your Nook, it appears on your Google Calendar page (on the computer) and vice versa: when you add something on your GCal, it appears on your Nook?
Yep, works both ways. I'm using the Launcher Pro calendar on my nook and it's syncing no problem with my google account calendar.

@Kokanee483, I see, you probably mean the Launcher Pro widget calendar.
It may have a force sync function which is cool and would solve the problem in a way symilar to Synker or Business Calendar Beta.
I am more interested in the fundamental problem of CalendarProvider service not running.
Would you mind checking whether it syncs both ways from the Calendar App itself?
Also, if you have NookColor Tools, would you check Running Services for the CalendarProvider service entry?
Thanks.

I don't have any issues. You could try deleting the account, clearing the data in the individual apps and then setting it up again.

I have a similar issue. Contacts will sync the first time, but never again after that. One trick I used to make it work was to initially set my sync at five minutes and to let it sit for an hour until it all synced (I have close to 2000 contacts). After it was done syncing I switched to push.
I switched to the kitkat email/exchange for a little while, it worked much better. I was having problems with unread counts so I changed back.

not sure this works, but are you sure that those contacts are selected to show up under your contacts? I'm sure they are but i thought i would throw it out there since someone said that it will search for them in the address bar but not show them up under contacts. Might jsut be a settings button for that.
On another note, i saw in another email thread that someone set their phone up with the certificates to ssl/tls (accept all certificates) instead of the stock ssl/tls setting. (not sure the ssl/tls is right but its some set of letters lol).
