Is there anyway someone could make a windows XP bootup animation for the fascinate? Sorry if there's already something like this, I searched and couldn't find anything though. I have the XP bootup noise as a notification tone on my phone, but I really want to use it for when my phone turns on. A boot animation with just the XP logo appearing and playing the noise would be great, as well as a simple turn off animation to match.
Thanks in advance!
(sorry if this is the wrong section for this)
this sounds like a cool idea..
Coming from a BB Storm2, I think it would also be cool to see the Blackberry boot animation created.. Just with a progress bar that moves significantly quicker

Find me an animated gif image, or an avi that I can put into frames and I'll put one together for you.
I've been looking for a little bit and can't find any animated ones, I'll have more time to look for one tomorrow though. But basically I would be fine with this screen:
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_uHVE0XthY4c/S6vELiAp6_I/AAAAAAAAAbY/Ha1SFVOInik/s1600/WINXPSP2_Logo.gif
with an animated loading bar, and then as soon as it ends the XP startup noise plays, and the Android boots haha.
If this is enough to go off of let me know, if not I can spend more time tomorrow looking for a better animation.
But thanks a lot!
Found a Windows 7 gif if you would want that instead, saves people the trouble of having to animate and crop the xp picture.
Edit: Pic should now work, also included logon sound. Sadly windows 7 doesn't have its own startup sound.
The windows 7 bootup would be cool too. The pic you posted isn't animating for me though.
I personally really don't care which version, I suggested XP just because that's what I'm using right now and I'm used to. But Windows 7 would make a cool boot anim too.
No Windows per se, but there's this amusing fake BIOS bootup
Here is a CWM zip that will flash the windows 7 boot animation and the sound in the above rar file. I haven't listened to the sound, so no idea if it will match. Unfortunately, there is no way to get the sound to play after the boot animation.
You are awesome. Thanks for being so quick about it. I'm about to try it out. Ill let you know later how it works. Thanks a lot!
Sent from my Fascinate running Froyo Blackhole
It doesn't work on Superclean 2.1 Froyo
Yeah I just tried it out and it didn't work on DL30 blackhole. I flashed it over the aperture boot animation and I still get the aperture shut down animation but just a black screen for boot up.
Sent from my Fascinate running Froyo Blackhole
I'll take a look at it when I get home from work if no one else fixes it before then.
Sounds good. I'm not in a rush haha. I didn't even expect someone to even attempt to make this tonight haha.

Found this gif. It goes to the blue screen of death afterwards. I don't know if you could edit that out or not. If not it would be cool to have the loading screen loop for a minute, and then cut to a blue screen of death right before loading android.
I torn between wanting a pixel perfect copy of the original and wanting a cleaned up (not so grainy and not 256 colors) but otherwise identical image, with a matching scrolling bar. Unfortunately, I'm not that talented or knowledgeable to do it myself.
Here is a second try at the Windows 7 boot animation. I'll work on the Windows XP one in a little bit to see if I can get that one setup as well.
EDIT: Updated the Windows 7 one again, and also put the Windows XP one here. Hopefully both work as I think I figured out what I was doing wrong before.
The XP one is PERFECT. Did you put the bootup sound on it too? I flashed this in class and had my phone on vibrate. I'll be able to check later if that's working or not (if you put it in). But even without sound it's awesome. Thanks a lot man.
No, there is no boot sound in the Windows XP one. If anyone can post up a sound, I'll put it in there.
I don't know if you needed mp3 or wav so I converted to both for you:
MP3
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19501403/Microsoft Windows XP Startup Sound.mp3
WAV
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19501403/Microsoft Windows XP Startup Sound.wav
XP logo didn't work for me. I'll try flashing it again but it may not work with the Touch of Blue EB 01 theme, which replaces the boot and shutdown screens.

apply the zip as update.zip, make a nandroid backup before just in case. to make it easier to revert i attached a zipfile with the original files in them to revert to original, one with the sounds activated, one silent.
please tell me what you think
Hello,
do you have any screenshot of the boot or video?
Just extract the gif files and open them in IE or firefox. They'll play the anim. Very funny
thats quite funny
Lol
You are completely cool!
Thank you for this Bootscreens.
Now, Hero Booting isn't pain anymore!
glad you liked it. stay tuned for next version, already working on a progress bar... won't be out before weekend i guess.
still looking for a fingerprint scanner animation.

for now i found a way to edit the files in inkscape, one layer per frame, exporting them to .xcf keeping the layers, and then use gimp to convert to animated gif. works, but is a lot of footwork... but i guess as i am trying to make a rather "complex" (at least for a gif) animation it just is a lot of footwork...

Hey, I was wondering if you could help me out. I dig your boot animation, and it's inspired me to make my own (OK, I'm just stealing the old "Cylon Eye" animation from the pre-release days.) Anyway, I've got the animation zip installed and working, however it seems like the phone is ignoring the frame delay. The animation seems to be going as fast as the phone can handle. So maybe there's a setting on the animated GIF that I'm not applying. Are there any specific settings you applied to your gifs?
Here's what I've got right now:
Code:
Interlace: No
GIF Comment: No
Loop Forever: Yes
Delay between frames where unspecified: 10ms
Frame disposal where unspecified: "I don't care" (other options are Combine and Replace)
Use Delay entered for all frames: Yes
Use Disposal entered for all frames: Yes
These settings are in GIMP. If you could help me figure this out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

set that value to a higher number, try 100ms. this specifies the general frame delay, you can set per-frame delays in the name of the frame. for example:
"Frame#1" is the layer name, make it
"Frame#1(500ms)" to make the delay half a second long.
(if that doesn't work try to google it, i am not 100% sure about the syntax)
would you mind sharing that animation you are talking about?
btw: work is still ongoing here, nuclear power now has a colored progress bar, but it is getting complicated handling 150+ layers in inkscape...

Yeah, I realized that my math was off with the delay, after noticing yours was 500ms. I'm going to try a couple other things to get it smoother as well. The stock boot animation has a small animated gif in the middle of the screen with a black background, so I imagine the phone can handle that easier than a full 480x320 animation, so that's my next step. I was actually just about to post my animation in a separate thread, so I'll link that post here when I've done that.
EDIT: My initial attempt is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583094
There's still work to be done, so don't judge me to hard!

What I would like to see for a bootscreen on the Hero is an animation of a Stargate locking in the seventh chevron then the splash coming out to encompass the entire screen. As it recedes back to the gate it leaves the word "ANDROID" in the event horizon overlaying the puddle effect then have four little green android characters with P-90s run through the gate before the animation ends.
Any takers on creating this? I don't know enough about creating video and effects to even get started on something like this.
Dude u read my mind...that would be awesome.. massive stargate fan here..lol
Intresting..... i will follow this thread
I'd be willing to toss out $20 (maybe more if it's a really high quality job) if there are any experienced graphics designers out there who could make this happen.
if anyone knows how to do it it is tristan202...
Does this help????
Woops,... 2 mins,... Cant use .rar,.... try again,....
OK,... here goes again.
I was previously advised (by Tristan202 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645244) that the Hero 1st plays one gif just once, then loops another... So.. Each ZIP file contains 2 gifs,... one of the "puddle" in action,... one of just the outro,...
All are 320x180 resolution,...
Latency setting on BEST was set to 50ms...
Latency setting on MED was set to 75ms...
Latency setting on LOW was set to 100ms...
Now need to find an simple method to apply them. I'll leave it to you guys to do the research for me aswel. Get cracking and let me know,....
Peace
Shizzle,..... I've just re-read the 1st post,.... And realised what I've supplied isn't quite what you wanted!!!!!

[KITCHEN][MARCH 25 '10] HTC Android Basic Kitchen, v0.25 - for Beginners! [PC / MAC]
I haven't given it a try myself yet though.
I had a go at this and I'll show you how far I got (see attached update.zip for flashing through recovery rom).
I'm new to making bootscreens, but I studied a few I downloaded and learned how to sign an update zip. (Can't seem to generate my own pem/pk8 key files, when trying to apply the zip signed with my key it keeps saying that the files are unsigned, but the testkey files included with the signapk zip I grabbed work fine to sign). Also I didn't use zipalign, haven't worked out how yet, or is that only done on APK files?
Anyway, I noticed when I used GIF files that use pixel cropping (leaving out unchanged pixels in subsequent frames) the image gets all distorted, like a TV broadcast signal problem. So the resulting GIF files are larger than the originals, as each frame is a full frame.
However there is still a problem with some frames in the first GIF, still some distortions, although nowhere near as bad as on my first try with cropped frames... Also I don't really like the way the 2nd GIF loops as you can clearly see when it jumps from last frame, to first frame...

I am planning on trying to teach myself and make some more tonight using Photoshop instead of the automated software I used last time,.... But what Id like to know is,... As it is,... Does it play landscape, stretched across the whole screen?.... If it does then the issue is just the resolution (as I sized it to play in in the middle of the screen in portrait mode) and in theory should be easy enough to resolve (once I know how to use Photoshop that is).... Let me know please.
Thanks.
No, it shows portrait, vertically centered (so 150px high black bars above and below the animation). You wouldn't hold your phone sideways while booting, so it seemed awkward to rotate the files 90degrees.
Basically the only problem is the "glitching" in the first GIF. I'll have another go at that one later. I think it's to do with palette compression.
Also, I used your 'BEST' zip, so I'll see about quality/size difference with the other ones.

When you say "glitching",... do you mean it doesn't play smooth yeah,... a bit jerky?
If that is what you mean then yeah, the other ones might play smoother. This might be because there are so many frames in the BEST one. The lower quality ones have less frames so can be processed faster.
Even if I just open them on my lappy in internet explorer, the best quality one doesn't play as nice as the lower one.
So the update.zip that you create,... Does that just put the files in the right place and tell the phone what files to open up when booting? Or do you have to add the black bars, tell it to play landscape or portrait, make it play only once/not loop etc,....
That's something I'd like to be able to do too.

No, I mean it glitches like a bad tv signal. I don't really know how to describe it. You can however safely flash the update.zip I posted to see what I mean. You can always flash back a stock bootscreen (with or without sound); I've attached them to this post (grabbed these off of xda myself a while ago).

Just unzip my zip file and peruse the files. That will tell you a great deal. You can delete the following three files, as they are created by the signing process:
META-INF\CERT.RSA
META-INF\CERT.SF
META-INF\MANIFEST.MF
This file contains the command to copy the files to the SYSTEM: volume on your device:
META-INF\com\google\android\update-script
And this file tells Android how and which files to display:
system\media\bootscreen\boot_animation.xml
There's 3 bootconfigs in that file, but the top and bottom one are commented out (could've deleted them, but oh well). So the middle bootconfig is the one to play around with. The ScreenX and ScreenY values are offsets from top left corner of screen in portrait mode. And useAudio tells android to play or not play the mp3 file (none included in my zip).
EDIT: The black "bars" are there, because as specified in the xml, it uses a GIF file that's 320x480, fully black, and the other 2 gifs are smaller, displayed on top of that black background.
If you wanted to have this animation play in landscape mode, you just need to physically rotate the GIF files 90 degrees right (or left) and resize the animation to make it fit the screen. If you make it 480px wide, then it would be 270px high, so that'd leave 320-270=50px of blackness. Vertically centering the animation would mean a ScreenX value of 25 and a ScreenY value of 0. Or leave both at zero to have the animation stay at the top of the screen in landscape mode. That way you have one black bar, at the bottom, 50px high. Make sense I hope?
One more thing: the update-script and xml file need to be saved in UNIX ASCII format. Use a text editor like UltraEdit (shareware) or Notepad++ (opensource freeware) if you're on Windows.
Beta!
I Put together this small application last night.
Pretty Simple, but it does the job well
Use it to convert Images from HDPI themes (nexus one, galaxy s, droid, etc.) To MDPI to use on your phone (Magic, G1 and other smaller devices)
Just select a bunch of image files (using shift) and press OK. This will decrease the selected images by 75%, suitable for an MDPI resolution screen.
Works on Snow Leopard. Not to sure about older operating systems
Could throw another one together to convert MDPI to HDPI on request.
Enjoy! suggestions welcome
Updated: Added some extras I guess I should call this release.. 0.8, because i'm still not sure if its working properly..
Nice i wil test it later when im on my mac but thanks this will save lots of time for loads of people
Crap i dont have a mac
Someone had asked in my thread regarding this. I found that 66% was adequate for mdpi as it brings it as close to its original resolution. The .9png's have to be excluded however when resizing. Even then, the end result isnt what i would call perfect but its a start.
Great work regardless.
Working on 10.5 Lepoard - Macbook Air - I havent tried out converting the files yet but it opens so thats good i'll say in about half hour if its working good Thanks
It shows that it's working for me, but it just closes before it even starts.
Come on guy. I want to Port over a few Themes to my G1. Any idea?
good stuff!
U guys don't mind having to resize certain images ? If no, then im almost done a beta version of hdpi-to-mdpi for theme-porter. Would be awesome if u cud test it out
I'll test it out. Hopefully it'll work better then this.

Sorry about that, it does it in the background once you confirm. Don't know how to make it show the progress. It takes about One minute to do 700 images on my computer.
.9.png files too?
And how does this effect the .9.png files that when edited you lose the guides and thus messing up your theme? I had noticed that if you so much as open some of them up and make any changes at all it will mess everything up.
Here's something worth looking into.

any such app for windows too? similar type of an app?
Does this also work MDPI>HDPI? Quality doesn't matter for me .
While researching how the splash screen works and how to change it I came across a boot animation
It was like a stick drawing animation with someone trying to jump over a cliff
I really liked it but at the time I couldnt use it as the San Francisco didn't support bootanimation.zip
but now I have Froyo in my phone I want to try it
but I cant remember where I saw it, I'm not even sure it was on this forum, although I'm pretty sure it was
Does anyone know the animation or where I might find it? or anything similar?
or is there a gallery/folder/thread of most known animations?
If I cant find that one I'd like something really colourful but obviously havig HTC in it isnt much use, and most I have seen seem to have that in.
480x800 is the resolution/screen size
Thanks in advance
Anyone have any ideas where I might find this?

Suggestion .. Can you do one with the actual stargate ..locking in the Chevrons .. then creating the wormhole...
no Androids or anything like that ... it would look just like the tv show when they are dialing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCBs80-PjC4
This is by far the best one just wished he did a full dial sequence
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zOtp7WPNyg
Here is a good example of what i am thinking of
I think it is worth a try?!
Maybe the loop in the end could be the wormhole-effect?
-"dialing"
-chevrons locking
-initialize the gate aka waterpuddle-effect
-enter wormhole
Any suggestions?

This looks great will have to give it a try. Cant wait if you bring in the real stargate though
I been attempting to create the animation .. I got it to a point where i have the png files however the issue i run into is when i want the wormhole to loop it doesn't ..just goes to a black screen ..
I have a short version of the gate initaillizing the last chevron then kwooosh then water effect
I will upload when i get in hopefully someone can take a look and let me know where i am going wrong

Had a quick look. I think all the parts should start with a xxx.001.
Every folder start from beginning.
Your first sequence is xxx.101... Which is allright but second was something like xxx.134...?
Maybe this loop is looking for a png called xxxx.0001? I will alter your png-files with a batch rename and see how it goes when I reach my laptop. L8er dude
Sent from my Stargåte Galaxy S
Oh you did not use any compression on the zip-file? The file must be on store/no compression mode. All thumbnails/anything extra removed. Just checking... Back soon
Sent from my Stargåte Galaxy S
no compression. I was under the impression that it did not matter what number the .png files start with so long as they are in sequence.
Look forward to hear some results
I had a similar problem where the animation turned black after the first folder run through. Did not get it to loop the rest.
I renamed the second part PNGs and voilá! it worked?!?
I did the same to your sequence
Now the pix are xxxx.01,02,03...

Well did not get it to work on my Galaxy S
All your PNGs were 260x255.
So I edited the desc.txt to suit the pix. To strech it to 480x800 might be a bit too much? I put it to 260x255 and tried but no go.
So I went to Fireworks and resized pix to 480x471 (same ratio as orig.)
Created new png-files (which were even smaller in size). Edited the txt-file and everything worked just fine.
Maybe there was a problem with the png-files compression or mode.
What program did you use and with what settings?
Anyways here you are:

Just rename to bootanimation.zip and... well you know the rest.
Like to tell you what was the problem.. but not sure
It is a bit of try and error.
