Hi everyone,
I'm just wondering if my phone is going to be compatible with the networks in Australia (Next G), and what I can do to get it working on one of the carriers over there, most likely Telstra.
I really don't know where to get started.
Much appreciate any advice.
Tommy
Update: The wiki article on the Samsung Galaxy S, tells me that Bell's GT-I9000M is compatible with 850 Mhz. Telstra's Next G network is apparently 850 Mhz, and Telstra itself sells the GT-I9000T. Does that mean I should be able to use it when I move to Australia? What do I need to do?
Not all Galaxys use the same frequencies. If your phone and the carrier in Australia use the same frequencies, then you are good to go. Make sure your phone is unlocked otherwise you will not be able to use any other service besides Bell.

Hi, im from Brasil and my brother is in Washington and he decided to buy the Samsung Galaxy S International Version from Amazon !!
The phone arrived today but here is the problem, a Captivate from At&T arrived instead of the international version!
he is going to use it here in Brasil, with TIM on 2100 3G frequency!
So, my question is, is there any important difference between then?
Does is it work with the 2100 freq?
Can i install different roms on it, because i've been searching about the phone more on the I9000 forum!
I've asked him to check for firmware version and here is what showed up:
2.1-update1
baseband: I897UCJF6
SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
So, should him keep it ? Need fast answer because he is coming back tomorrow!
Thanks in advance!
I'm in Brazil and using a Captivate. I'm using it on Claro Paraná which is basically 2100.
To be honest, I'd keep the AT&T one. There's an easy way to unlock it via a Market App (forgot the name now) and there is a lot of ino for it here.
You may have some issues with phone numbers but I'm still looking into it - so far I decided to remove all DDD codes and carrier codes and use "Operadora DDD" app to apply them on-the-fly.

The SGH-i897 is a quad band dual mode handset. It supports GSM frequencies of 850, 900, 1800, & 1900. It supports UMTS 850, 1900, and 2100 frequencies. There is a possibility the phone may be used with a wireless operator outside the United States however this is not guaranteed. The phone has been optimized to work on the intended carrier it was designed for.

Straight from the Samsung Website.
Thanks for the answers !!!
I was on the run to find out more about the phone because all the previously research was for the I9000 international version and there´s this deadline to return the phone tomorrow!
But after researching all day and you confirmed that it works on 2100 freq we´re keeping it!
The other concern that i saw was the 3 button download thing, but i´ve sent the instructions to my brother and its working perfectly !
Thanks again, cant wait to put my hands on it!!
Not to mention that the build quality of Captivate is way better than i9000

Now I'm hoping this is the right place for this, samsung have so many versions of the Galaxy S and I didn't see a forum specifically for the i9000T so sincere apologies if there actually is one.
Recently Acquired an i9000 after not properly reading posts regarding that enabling 850MHz in Combi bands does NOT work, silly me . Unfortunately I need a galaxy that works on New Zealand's Telecom network (850 Mhz WCDMA)
So my plan is to sell the now useless (to me) i9000 and buy a Galaxy S that supports 850 WCDMA, I emailed bell Canada but they would not ship outside Canada so buying from them directly is out of the question. The "official" galaxy from the Telecom NZ store is 1000 NZD, compared to 650 NZD for the bell Canada version I refuse to pay such a heinous amount which is clearly a rip off.
Right now I am looking at the "international version" of the galaxy S on amazon however I want to make sure that it actually supports 850 MHz, it is listed as both i9000 and the i9000T so i'm not sure whether it does support 850 or not.
Does anyone know of a reliable seller of 850MHz Galaxy S phones or know if the one on amazon (not allowed to post links but the page can be found at amazon.com /Samsung-I9000-Galaxy-8GB-Bluetooth-International/dp/B003SIDVRA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top[/url]) is actually an i9000T
Thanks for your time, its much appreciated!!
PS i don't know if this is allowed on these forums as such but if anyone wants to buy my Galaxy S PM me, looking at around 750 NZD
Currently running a ICS rom on my Galaxy S i9000
Bell canada is getting way to greedy... so i was thinking to switch over to
http://windmobile.ca/en/Pages/default.aspx
unlimited everything... 40$ (i live in Toronto)
question is can i get the Galaxy S to work on the Wind Mobile network?
and does anyone have experience with wind mobile?

currently using JVO
if flashing a new modem is all i have to do ill be cancelling my contract today!
thanks for the quick reply...
i see you are with bell are you happy with em?
I'm actually with Virgin, same network as Bell but much cheaper. You could check out what they have on offer.
So I checked online, Wind uses UMTS band 4 (1700mhz) while Bell uses Band 5.
I switched over to Wind about a week ago ($29 unlimited talk/text/data) and I can assure you that your Bell Vibrant I9000m will not work on Wind's network (I tried with my Wind SIM card). The frequency bands that Wind uses (AWS 1700/2100) are not compatible with the Bell Vibrant I9000m handset. If you had a T-Mobile Vibrant I9000m however, then it's possible to have it work with Wind's network, but definitely not if you have the Bell SGS.

Whoops. hopefully tb5 dodged a bullet there.
Thanks for the info!
@snehasish
yea went into the Wind Mobile store today and tried to put 2 sim cards in, a screen came up 'sim pin lock code' for both i dismissed that screen but the phone didn't work.
had the jvo modem running Onecosmic's ICS Port Android 4.0.3 RC2.1
@adslee
that's pretty disappointing... i had high hopes guess ill have to sell it, or get bell to give me a 40$ unlimited everything plan...
Wind uses AWS and that's why it doesn't work. Our phones are GSM quad band.
Did you take a look at what plans Virgin has?
flash a bell modem.. or... in your dialer type, *#2263#* and under multi band make sure 850 is selected... also you will need Wind mobile APN... furthermore...your phone has to be UNLOCKED to use another SIM card...
wow, so much misinformation!
as mentioned before, you can NOT use bell's i9000m on the wind/mobilicity home network.
for UMTS (aka 3G, 3G+, or whatever they are calling it now)
wind/molicity/t-mobile uses 1700/2100 mhz
big 3:telus, rogers, bell (including it's child company, virgin) and att uses 850/1900 mhz
yes, "our phones are GSM quad band" (aka 2G, edge...).
in canada, only rogers has 2G towers. wind uses this rogers 2G for roaming, so yes, you can use your bell i9000m with wind... but only for roaming on 2G.
and no, you can not just "flash a different" modem to make this work.
and no, wind does not use CDMA.
thus, short answer, don't use bell's i9000m on wind.
yea currently looking to buy out a T-mobile device...
on GSM ARENA filtered out 1700 / 2100 mhz phones.

you can try looking for "t959" (t-mobile version of galaxy s) on ebay. I see quite a few used ones around $200 + ~$20 shipping (Canada), which is probably around the same amount that you'll be able to sell your i9000m for.
Good luck.
yea i saw that might move up to the SGS2 since i have to sell this phone.
As the title suggests, my parents are currently in Hong Kong and will be returning in a few days. I was wondering if anyone in Canada has managed to test the phone out on the Rogers network? If you are in Toronto, have you been able to receive LTE? I have checked on Wikipedia the bands for Rogers Canada and for a mobile company in HK that share the same 2600mhz frequency in hopes that it may work. Any opinions/answers will be much appreciated!
To make sure you get a perfect answer on network compatibility you may be best asking at a Samsung store or a phone store as they will know 100%

Yes, I can confirm it will as I am on Rogers, and have one of these wonderful devices..
I just wish there was Cyanogen or The Collective for this phone
The Galaxy S3 dual core LTE that Rogers currently lists on their website uses the 1700/2100 bands for LTE, it is the SGH-I747 model. The i9305 is listed as 800/1800/2600 for LTE, which are completely different.
Also notice the i9305 is missing 1900 MHz 3G frequency. Rogers 3G operates on 850/1900 for 3G, so you may not have full 3G coverage in places as well.
I don't think the guy above me saying LTE works for him actually has the same device you're asking about. Just from looking at the frequency bands, there is no way LTE will work on Rogers. If you want a quad core LTE Galaxy S3 that works on Rogers, you will have to wait. The Galaxy S4 is going to be announced in the spring as well, so you might want to wait anyway.
South Korean original Galaxy Tab (SHW-M180s) on USA AT&T 3G/HSPA+ network compatible?
Happy New Years y'all. I just came across a South Korean (SHW-M180s) and was curious if it works on AT&T's 3G/HSPA network.
So far it only gets GSM, so I'm assuming they have different frequencies.. unless there's a something I need to change within the settings to allow AT&T's 3G network.
Any info or tips would be greatly appreciated!
After +50 views, can I get a simple yes or no reply? Yes it will work on ATT 3G or No it won't work..?
I don't have one to tell you.
But my feeling is, the answer is no.
Even a regular P1000 or a T-Mobile T849 can't use AT&T 850MHz 3G.
And you can't flash anything to change it. It is a hardware thing.
