[Info][adhoc][infrastructure]Phones that support wireless infrastructure - Nook Color General

Recieved my replacement Evo 4G shift, rooted and installed wireless tether for root from market, it supports infrastructure.
Any other phones out there that do? a list would be nice for those wanting to upgrade soon and not have to deal with the adhoc issue
Phone
HTC EVO 4G Shift

Bump to raise this from the dead.
Anyone know if the Galaxy S2 supports infrastructure? I want to teather my nook to my phone. I know about the ad-hoc workaround; it does not work very well. I want to get a phone that supports infrastructure.

Relatively Non-tech-savvy person needs help!

Hey everyone!
So I'm obviously in the market for a tablet, and the Galaxy Tab seems to be the best fit considering its price and functionality.
I have two main issues I need help with:
First, I know Skype recently announced that the Galaxy Tab supports video calling. This is VERY important - one of the reasons I'm getting a tablet is to easily skype my sister (really, my niece) and my long-distance boyfriend. Does video-calling work on both the WIFI and the 3G versions? Has anyone had any problems getting Skype to work?
Second, I'm trying to decide whether to purchase the WIFI-only version from Best Buy ($279 right now) or buying a used 3G version from CowBoom for the same basic price. I like the idea of having the option of getting a data-plan at some point, but don't want to be locked into a contract. Also, the idea of getting it used is a little scary (although I'd probably get CowBoom's 1 year protection plan). How much does the faster processor on the 3G version actually impact its functionality? Any other reason to get the 3G, even if I never end up getting a data plan?
Some more details about what I'm looking to do, since that is probably helpful ... I basically want to be able to surf the internet, answer emails, watch hulu plus at home, use the Kindle feature to read on the metro, and Skype video-call my loved ones. I start a job in early December where I will get some kind of smart phone(BB now, but they are thinking of switching to I-Phone), which is why I'm considering getting a WIFI-only version.
Thats all, I really appreciate any help!
I wouldn't be afraid to buy the 3G version, the gps works better with a 3g radio, and there are some alternative roms available with the 3g versions, but none I know of for the wifi only.
I also believe skype only works on gingerbread 2.3.4, which you won't be able to get with the wifi only tab.

Even though I have the Verizon Gtab, you might consider a gsm, because there are many more roms available for it than the cdma version.

[Q] HTC EVO 4G tethering for Rooted NC

Has anyone been successful at tethering with an unrooted HTC EVO 4G and a rooted NC running the CM7 rom? I have been searching high and low to find a method of getting my nook color with internet access from my phone. Any help would be appreciated.
By what means? Wireless? If you're unrooted, do you have an existing tethering plan? I think koush was working on an unrooted tethering app, but never really looked into it.

No, I don't have have a hot spot plan (sprint). I can tether via USB to my laptop (using data package from phone) using PDANet 3.0.2. But I have not been able to tether to my rooted NC
I have the exact same setup. First, you must ROOT your EVO and have SuperUser access. Once that's done, you can install any of the wireless tether options from the G Market. I don't have a tether plan and the telco won't know your phone is tethered except for the high amount of data you pass through it.
My EVO runs CM7.1 (with GPS / Voicemail fix) and its awesome. Dump the crappy HTC Sense software along with Carrier IQ and you'll be a much happier EVO owner.
The Nook Color has no problems tethering with the EVO at all. The only problem is spotty 4G coverage......

I have the same setup. When I tether my NC to my EVO running 3G, speeds are fine. When I tether running 4G, speeds are super slow. Something between the EVO and NC because when I tether my laptop to the EVO at 4G speeds are fast!

How did you fix your voicemail and GPS? I'm currently using Google voice ans I miss stock vm. As for GPS, it'll work sporadically.

There are VVM apk's and GPS fixes for CM7 on the EVO.
The way I fixed my EVO GPS was to download and flash a fix. It is located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132412
As for the Sprint VM, you have to go back to your nandroid backup and restore the original SENSE rom (or course make a new backup of your current rom). Use Titanium backup and back up a filed called Voicemail T.5.1.0.60 (your version # might be different) from SENSE.
Restore your ROM and then use TB to "restore" it in CM7.1.
It works great except there's this annoying thing where you get a VM and it sends you a cryptic meaningless SMS. There are fixes but I haven't yet tried them.

Mask hotspot usage? Work around?

Hello XDA members this is my first post on the XDA forums. I am about to upgrade to a droid bionic from my droid x. I am able to use the verizon hotspot app threw teamblackhats hotspot hack without verizon knowing I am using my phone as a hotspot. I have searched around all the android/bionic forums for the past week and have been searching for a way to use a hotspot app that has infrastructure mode working on the bionic and the only one I have found is the built in verizon hotspot. However verizon can still detect that you are using hotspot even if you do the SQllite entitlement hack. So does anyone know of an app/hotspot trick that lets you use your phone as a hotspot with infrastructure mode without the verizon hotspot or verizon knowing? If you give me "Foxfi" or "Wifi Tether For Root Users" as an answer can you please tell me if those apps can use infrastructure mode and bypass the Network Access identifier switch that verizon has built into their LTE phones??
I have emailed both Foxfi developers and Wifi tether for root users developers however I have still not received a response and it has been 2 weeks since I have asked them.
Here is a thread that can give you an idea of what I am talking about http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1260968 post #12 on page 2.
By the way I already know there are apps out there that can use wifi threw bluetooth and adhoc mode, but I need infrastructure mode and that's why I have included the information that I did in this post.

Quick question. How much data are you using that you're paranoid about Verizon finding out about the NAI switcher?
Because if you're not going to be doing it too heavily, I've used Wireless Tether For Root Users (http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether) for 3 years across a Droid, Droid Bionic, and SGS3 without any issues whatsoever from Verizon. It uses a legit infrastructure mode.
However, there's no such thing as a safe tether workaround if Verizon ever decides to do deep packet detection on you. They'll be able to see desktop browser user-agent strings and that will blow your whole cover immediately.

I'll say i will be using 7-10 gigs of data per month. I have unlimited data grandfathered in and I have been out of contract with verizon for the past 2 months. I appreciate the info about wifi tether for root users. Please tell me projektor which setup method is infrastructure mode in wifi tether? its hostapd(master) right?
Bummer i was hoping there was a way to make it undetectable.

I heard bluetooth tethering works with pdanet. Try usb tethering on pdanet as well? theres a lot of variables. Sorry i dont have ur tablet to test it out
oops. I was unclear. I meant would they be able to read browser headers and notice a difference if I had my Android tablet tethered to my Android phone? (I've always assumed yes, but it made me wonder - if the browser headers were identical, would then notice the difference without actually delving deeper)?
I know I can tether my Infinity to my BIONIC, because I do it on a (nearly) daily basis. So, I was just asking the question more as an academic question than anything else.

from my understanding yes they can tell. i believe the mac address used on the tethered device is somehow revealed to vzw.

Using International HTC One with T-Mobile USA

Hi there,
I have an LTE International version of HTC One (unlocked).
When I'm traveling to the states every summer, i use a T-Mobile no contract SIM with my trusted N900 as a main phone and a wireless AP for my wife's internet (she also has an HTC one) and instead of my hotel connection.
I have a couple of questions:
Can I get 3G or 4G with my phone
Can I tether using this plan, or I have to use an alternative tethering app?
Will HTC one work with Ad-hoc wireless of JoikuSpot? (If i will end up using my N900)

the international version can pick up SOME t-mobile signals. off the bat probably LTE if your in an LTE area otherwise you'll atleast get 2g. if your in a re-farmed area you'll see 3g and HSDPA but depends on where you are as they arent completely done with the re-farming yet. as for the no contract sim being able to tether. i dont see a problem with it i assume its a prepaid? the phone should be able to push the connection through. though you're gonna want to be careful if you have a limit. on how much you can pull for internet
Thanks syaoran68,
I'll be visiting Los Angeles, but maybe another state, not sure yet.
I was just concerned that T-Mobile may be able to restrict tethering.

[Q] Need help! Verify Freedompop!

Hi guys! I am looking to go over to Freedompop, but I do not want to buy a S2 over EVO. They will let you bring a device, but to check if your device will work you need to type in an MEI #. If anyone has a SPRINT Moto X, could you check to see if your MEI # is accepted by FreedomPop? $110 for 2 years seems like a pretty good deal to me. I don't live on my cell phone and have WiFi at work and at home. Might be a good idea, but I would like to order a X and use their service. Thank you in advance!
My experience with FreedomPop (I have 3 devices active with them right now) is that the Bring Your Own Device option only works with phone models they previously offered or are currently offering.
That means you can activate an EVO Design 4G, the original EVO 4G, and now the Galaxy S2 since they have just made that device available.
I've saw a list a few months back of 10 or so phones that were supposed to become available. One of them was the EVO 3D. I'm still unable to activate my Sprint EVO 3D with FreedomPop. I assume because they have not yet begun to offer that phone.
FreedomPop also uses WiMax as the primary connection (though their service does work over 3G if WiMax isn't available). I'm pretty sure the only phones that are going to be allowed to work with FreedomPop are old 4G WiMax devices.

Since your post Freedompop has announced support for more BYOD phones, including the Evo 3d. Have you tried again?

I'm going to try my Evo 3d. Do you think MeanROM is likely to be a problem?
For verified i think it may be need just postcode and email address..
