[Q] Any Froyo Roms with Apps2Ext2/3 feature support? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

[Q] Any Froyo Roms w/ App2Ext3
I probably have this in the wrong forum, I have been using Telus Lite V4 for some time, and have tried numerous Froyo Roms but I always come back to Telus Lite for the App2Ext2/3 ability and wonder why no one has this feature in the Froyo Roms. I am aware that 2.2 (Froy) has the Apps2SD feature but I get a lot more space left over on my phones internal memory with the Ext3. Anyone know of a ROM thats 2.2 and has t his feature? Thank you in advance.

I am using cronos 1.81, I installed app2ext full in OR update, using the manual from leaked APAC.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10994672&postcount=226
I am using the apps I had with leaked ROM that I had in ext2 partition. No need to reinstall, just applied cronos update from OR 3.3, then app2ext update, console to mk system/sd dir -there is a warning that only dalvik in ext in update-, but later all the old apps are installed and running
For me this is best option with ext2
Sorry my english

can anyone help please???
greatly appreciated

I have used the Cyanogen mod roms both 6 (2.2) and 7 (2.3) and when I tried to use the apps2Ext tool, I then reboot and all I ever get is a bootloop. If I use my partitioned sdcard it bootloops, if I use a standard sdcard without the apps2ext hack its fine and boot up, but then no apps2ext. Do either of the above cyanogen mod roms support apps2ext? Also I have tried both GOT and Androidani (or something spelled like that). Thank you again for your feedback. Much appreciated.

Having Prob Udating from old CM build to a newer one...

i am currently using CM 3.2 WITHOUT A2sd, i was at one time on Super Hero v2 and did have Apps2sd but didnt like Hero lag so i Nandroid flashed my backup of CM 3.2 now i am trying to go to newest CM build but everytime i flash i get bootloop, with and without wipe. what do i need to do, and since i still have app2sd set up but just not using it, do i need to redo the entire a2sd setup? if anyone can help me with the easiest way to do this it will be greatly appreciated.
Since you mixed some Hero in there, I'd wipe the Ext2 also. In recovery:
Code:
mount /system/sd
rm -rf /system/sd*
I think that'll work. Or if you have a card reader just put it in your PC and wipe the ext2.

I agree about wiping the EXT. But if you are not using apps2sd why not just reformat your card and start fresh? A new build always runs better on a fresh card.

Froyo - Android 2.2 on Kaiser Anyone?

Hey great xda people!!
Just wondering if anyone is working on a Froyo ROM? Or if there is even a Froyo build to cook a ROM yet?? I sure hope so, because I was thinking of reformatting my 16gb microSD to give it like, 2 to 4gb of Ext2 space to install apps on. But with the announcement of Android 2.2 supporting apps on SD, we will have whatever size our microSD can hold right?
So does that mean we won't even need to create the Ext2 partitions anymore?
We already have apps2sd; there are huge kernel differences.
There isn't even an rom for the G1 that's usable (everything works), we always port from the G1.
wait, so, if we use apps2sd, does that mean we don't need to use those the Ext2 partitions + "data on sd partition" combination?

I have .tgz file for both 2.3 gingerbread and foroyo for kaiser while one .tgz file is full hardware functionality i searched on net .Now plz tell me what to do to run by heret.exe file
Have you try Polymod 2.1 which I ever use It works .or maybe you need to change you sd card.what I know is that some rom not compatible with HaRET. I'm using CyanogenMod 7 now ever use CyanogenMod 6 with NAND
Logs would help. You will probably find a file named something like dmesg.log in the andboot folder, but I don't remember clearly. I made a mistake in my private message to you, where I said that the zImage and initrd needed to match so that the drivers would match the kernel. In fact, the drivers are not in the initrd but instead are in an androidupdate.tgz file that you should find the same place you found the kernel.
Ugh, guys, I've been away from kaiser long enough I barely remember how to do anything. I think it might not be safe for me to give advice anymore. But if you post your questions here, maybe someone will know the answer.

Apps2sd - Will this work

Hey guys,
I found this vid for G1 will this process work for HTC hero if not then how would I go about doing this on the Hero, please help
Not really...
Do you have a rooted phone ? Which rom are you using ?
If your phone is rooted you can try that guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
There is a section for app2sd.
Why isn't it possible to make the official 2.1 rom which is rooted work with app2sd?
I haven't said that.. I just said that this method is not for the Hero...
I don't know for the official 2.1 rom rooted because I don't use it and it may be because app2sd isn't included..
yeah i know, that you didn't said it sorry, didn't wanted to say something wrong. But in every App2sd Tutorial i found so far you have to install the custom firmware to get app2sd... i mean is it something which has to do with the kernel?
Not really sure but see:
Setup Apps2SD
ONLY RECOMMENDED ON CLASS 4+ SD CARDS. Don't bother if you don't know what this is . GIYF.
Do this process after doing everything else! So make sure you have a working custom rom installed which supports Apps2SD. This is designed for VillainROM which doesn't use a swap, if your ROM does support swap ask for a recommended amount. Also note that the ext2 partition will be unreadable from windows or through android os.
1. Backup your SD card to your computer (very important as this process will wipe all the data on it)
2. Restart your phone into recovery mode (Home + Power)
3. Select:
Partition sdcard
Partition SD
Press Home
Swap-size = 0 MB
Ext2-size = 512 MB (recommended)
FAT32-size = Remainder
Press Home
4. Once complete Reboot system now and wait! This can take 20 minutes or so to complete, so just keep waiting!
(Optional - before reboot) - Under partition sdcard you can convert the ext2 partition to ext3 - "SD:ext2 to ext3" - however this isn't recommended as it can apparently wear out your sd card quicker. I believe VillainROM even supports ext4 as well so you can do "SD:ext3 to ext4" after the first one too. Though again this will typically just wear out your SD faster without providing any speed benefits.

You don't need to install anything... App2SD is included in the rom you have dowloaded (if it is included of course)
Which rom do you have ?
2.1 Official HTC Stock rom with root... and no i don't wanna use a custom rom, because im happy with the stock rom
So it should be because the dev didn't include App2SD in the rom :s
Hmm okay im asking now like a noob:
do i need an apk which i install in the hero, so that i can do the adb-commands and get app2sd working?
do i need to switch the kernel, so that i can do the adb-commands and get app2sd working?
are both of the suggestions wrong and i would need something other than that?
My rom is: RoufianosV1.1-Clean - http://hero-roms.blogspot.com/2010/06/roufianosv11-clean.html
so it does have apps2sd included...

Hmmm I don't really know it sorry :s
However I don't think that there is an apk..Try to ask it to the dev who provide the rom..
Sorry
thanks man its working now btw, can i increase the fat2 to more than 512mb?
Yes you can but it will be useless because 512 Mb of apps is really huge !!
I agree, but the reason why i want to do it is because i only have about 108mb available internal space so i thought if i increase it above 512mb i should get more perhaps?

[Q] New SD Card - Do I need to partition?

I apologize in advance to the people who have already answered this question a dozen times. I just purchased a new sd card and plan to run cm 6.1. Do I need to partition my sd card to install apps to sd? Does darktremor's apps2sd work with cm 6.1? Then, on a different note, I'm experiencing some lag. Should I flash a new kernel, and which would you recommend? Thanks in advance.
If you want to use native froyo apps2sd, then no, you don't need to partition the sd card since froyo a2sd only needs a fat partition. If you want to use darktremor's or any other a2sd method (which I THINK works with CM6), then yes, you need to partition your sd card to include an ext3 partition.
I personally use and recommend Firerat's FroYo a2sdext script, which works perfectly and installation couldn't be easier. Link can be found in my signature.
Uncapped kernel is a fast kernel for CM 6.1, and can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756774
I recommend CFS #43, choose whichever speed you want.
If you want CM 6.1, I recommend Jaybob's 6.1 builds, as they are better maintained than the official ones, and is always updated to include the latest version of the kernel I recommended (which is actually newer than CFS #43). Link is also in my signature.
You... are the man! Thank you. Great advice, and I'm loving the results.

[Q] A2SD choices? Which is best?

Heyo N1 community,
About to do my first daily driver flash so I'm trying to make sure I'm doing everything right.
Have a quick questions regarding the various Apps2SD choices.
As far as I know, there are market apps designed to get the job done, but as I understand it there are also scripts? And these are smoother in their implementation?
The only one I've seen is the Darktremor A2SD script, which is still a beta and looks like it's been problematic for some.
Are there other options, or is the Darktremor A2SD the only one? If there are other options, is Darktremor's still the best?
Thanks for any and all help fellas.
personal choice although most devs rec what a2sd to use such as
roms like medroid ics are built in
i use dt beta4 on cm7 roms with zero issues
Used S2E for like a year or so with no issues. Has a useful GUI too.

Awesome thanks for the advice and info fellas. gonna check these bad boys out right now.
Do u guys know if a2sd works with miui still? It used to work for me but then I updated to a newer version (currently on 1.12.16, I know its old now but after my a2sd failed to work and my nandroid backup didn't restore properly I just quit updating). Just wondering if they fixed a2sd in the later versions or not, if so I will flash that. Thanks
haven't ran it for awhile, but not aware it won't, maybe other issues on your flash
redo sdcard and ext and try
start a thread and ask on forum, someone will inform you

I've tried to use Dt beta4 many times, but it seems to do nothing. I install a new rom with a fresh ext4 partition, and I set up my phone, and then I go back into recovery and flash the .zip for Dt beta4. It successfully installs, but when i check my internal storage, it still shows up as 200mb or so, and apps continue to be installed on internal storage. Where am I going wrong?
In terminal, type:
su
a2sd reinstall
a2sd cachesd
Have you done it?

+1 for curiosity's sake
I use IA2SD script.
I'm on MiUI 2.3.2 ROM which has A2SD enabled with it. Though Dark Tremors seems to be a popular one from what I've seen on these forums.
