I apologize in advance to the people who have already answered this question a dozen times. I just purchased a new sd card and plan to run cm 6.1. Do I need to partition my sd card to install apps to sd? Does darktremor's apps2sd work with cm 6.1? Then, on a different note, I'm experiencing some lag. Should I flash a new kernel, and which would you recommend? Thanks in advance.
If you want to use native froyo apps2sd, then no, you don't need to partition the sd card since froyo a2sd only needs a fat partition. If you want to use darktremor's or any other a2sd method (which I THINK works with CM6), then yes, you need to partition your sd card to include an ext3 partition.
I personally use and recommend Firerat's FroYo a2sdext script, which works perfectly and installation couldn't be easier. Link can be found in my signature.
Uncapped kernel is a fast kernel for CM 6.1, and can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756774
I recommend CFS #43, choose whichever speed you want.
If you want CM 6.1, I recommend Jaybob's 6.1 builds, as they are better maintained than the official ones, and is always updated to include the latest version of the kernel I recommended (which is actually newer than CFS #43). Link is also in my signature.
You... are the man! Thank you. Great advice, and I'm loving the results.

just got my new class 6 card and want to set up apps2sd. im running fresh rom 2.1.2. as i understand apps2sd in built in to it. I will be doing a full wipe and reinstall of the rom. and wanted to set up apps2sd along with it since im currently starting to run low on memory. I was also wondering what the different options in RA are for and the difference between them "ext2 to ext3 and ext3 to ext4?" also which one do i use and do i need to use some space for a swap file?
thanks,
[Q] Any Froyo Roms w/ App2Ext3
I probably have this in the wrong forum, I have been using Telus Lite V4 for some time, and have tried numerous Froyo Roms but I always come back to Telus Lite for the App2Ext2/3 ability and wonder why no one has this feature in the Froyo Roms. I am aware that 2.2 (Froy) has the Apps2SD feature but I get a lot more space left over on my phones internal memory with the Ext3. Anyone know of a ROM thats 2.2 and has t his feature? Thank you in advance.

I am using cronos 1.81, I installed app2ext full in OR update, using the manual from leaked APAC.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10994672&postcount=226
I am using the apps I had with leaked ROM that I had in ext2 partition. No need to reinstall, just applied cronos update from OR 3.3, then app2ext update, console to mk system/sd dir -there is a warning that only dalvik in ext in update-, but later all the old apps are installed and running
For me this is best option with ext2
Sorry my english

can anyone help please???
greatly appreciated
I have used the Cyanogen mod roms both 6 (2.2) and 7 (2.3) and when I tried to use the apps2Ext tool, I then reboot and all I ever get is a bootloop. If I use my partitioned sdcard it bootloops, if I use a standard sdcard without the apps2ext hack its fine and boot up, but then no apps2ext. Do either of the above cyanogen mod roms support apps2ext? Also I have tried both GOT and Androidani (or something spelled like that). Thank you again for your feedback. Much appreciated.

do i need an a2sd mod for cyanogenmod roms or does the built-in one by cyanogenmod do the same thing?
why would one use a mod like a2sd or whatever rather than using the CM one?
Cyanogen has a built in a2sd but it is not a2ext which moves apps to the ext partition on your sd card which is a much simpler (once it's set up) and IMHO better way to do it because it tricks the phone into thinking that the ext partition is the internal memory so it installs the apps on it.
okay. so cyanogens installs them on the main partition?
if its on the main partition then ill get a2ext.. id rather have it on the ext partition
thanks
The two big options out there are DarkTremor's a2sd and S2E. I have used both extensively and prefer S2E (found on the market).
Hello is there a known tweak, that on a stock based rom, will make the extalnal SD the primary sdcard. And the internal sdcard the secondary. Like we have it on cm7.
This should be on Q&A.
You'll use it on what rom?

Sure there is. For my latest ROM (gueste2x GoodBye). But you can also use it on other ROMs with v20-based kernels like HP kernel RC12 or guestekrnL and also FPS I guess.
I only tested with guestekrnL though.

It is not exact CM7 mount though. Just internal/external will be switched, paths remain the same.
Thanks works fine with 20q stock kernel.
Heyo N1 community,
About to do my first daily driver flash so I'm trying to make sure I'm doing everything right.
Have a quick questions regarding the various Apps2SD choices.
As far as I know, there are market apps designed to get the job done, but as I understand it there are also scripts? And these are smoother in their implementation?
The only one I've seen is the Darktremor A2SD script, which is still a beta and looks like it's been problematic for some.
Are there other options, or is the Darktremor A2SD the only one? If there are other options, is Darktremor's still the best?
Thanks for any and all help fellas.
personal choice although most devs rec what a2sd to use such as
roms like medroid ics are built in
i use dt beta4 on cm7 roms with zero issues
Used S2E for like a year or so with no issues. Has a useful GUI too.

Awesome thanks for the advice and info fellas. gonna check these bad boys out right now.
Do u guys know if a2sd works with miui still? It used to work for me but then I updated to a newer version (currently on 1.12.16, I know its old now but after my a2sd failed to work and my nandroid backup didn't restore properly I just quit updating). Just wondering if they fixed a2sd in the later versions or not, if so I will flash that. Thanks
haven't ran it for awhile, but not aware it won't, maybe other issues on your flash
redo sdcard and ext and try
start a thread and ask on forum, someone will inform you

I've tried to use Dt beta4 many times, but it seems to do nothing. I install a new rom with a fresh ext4 partition, and I set up my phone, and then I go back into recovery and flash the .zip for Dt beta4. It successfully installs, but when i check my internal storage, it still shows up as 200mb or so, and apps continue to be installed on internal storage. Where am I going wrong?
In terminal, type:
su
a2sd reinstall
a2sd cachesd
Have you done it?

+1 for curiosity's sake
I use IA2SD script.
I'm on MiUI 2.3.2 ROM which has A2SD enabled with it. Though Dark Tremors seems to be a popular one from what I've seen on these forums.
