I apologize in advance to the people who have already answered this question a dozen times. I just purchased a new sd card and plan to run cm 6.1. Do I need to partition my sd card to install apps to sd? Does darktremor's apps2sd work with cm 6.1? Then, on a different note, I'm experiencing some lag. Should I flash a new kernel, and which would you recommend? Thanks in advance.
If you want to use native froyo apps2sd, then no, you don't need to partition the sd card since froyo a2sd only needs a fat partition. If you want to use darktremor's or any other a2sd method (which I THINK works with CM6), then yes, you need to partition your sd card to include an ext3 partition.
I personally use and recommend Firerat's FroYo a2sdext script, which works perfectly and installation couldn't be easier. Link can be found in my signature.
Uncapped kernel is a fast kernel for CM 6.1, and can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756774
I recommend CFS #43, choose whichever speed you want.
If you want CM 6.1, I recommend Jaybob's 6.1 builds, as they are better maintained than the official ones, and is always updated to include the latest version of the kernel I recommended (which is actually newer than CFS #43). Link is also in my signature.
You... are the man! Thank you. Great advice, and I'm loving the results.
From my understanding there are roms that can be flashed to the nand memory (wiping out the stock b&n crap), roms that can be burned to the emmc, and roms that can be burned to and booted from an SD card.
Provided I understand that right, ideally I want to have Gingerbread installed on the emmc and possibly either Nookie or the modified Eclair rom on the rom memory..
Am I understanding this correctly? Is this setup possible? If this is possible, could you then burn a THIRD rom to an SD card and also boot from that?
There is a thread somewhere with a script to change boot priorities and allowing you to boot into any OS, but I just want to ensure I fully understand how this thing works before I go attempting to flash 3 OS versions lol
This Nook is just my toy, I bought it the day I saw the honeycomb port so I just want to play around with different rom setups till honeycomb is stable and ready to be flashed the nand memory.
Thanks for any help to further my understanding, it's greatly appreciated.
My understanding is there is no nand on the nook which makes sense.
Roms that flash to emmc actually replace the stock rom image.
There are only two ways to install roms: to internal flash memory (EMC) and external flash memory (SD), so the answer is "no".
However, it should be possible with modified uRamdisk (or u-boot so it would run different init/init.rc, which would mount different partitions/subdirs) to have multiple roms on a single SD card.
ah ok I see...so the there is no rom/nand memory and the stock rom is stored of the emmc? So at most you could have one rom on the emmc and one on the external SD?
That makes alot more sense. Thanks for clarifying guys. I'm about to flash Honeycomb to the emmc, wish me luck ha
Hi,
I would like to flash a new baseband on because 0622 gives me terrible battery life. So I tried to do a nandroid backup from within CWM 4.0.0.9, but it keeps failing. It seems able to backup the boot image, recovery image, and system, but then says cant mount /data. The size of each backup seems to be just under 200MB.
I am running CM7 #84, with vorkkernel from Friday. I did convert my filesystem to ext4, and had to run the vorkkernel updater with the internal flag (so I think my CWM is also internal).
Can anyone help?

Have you tried the last CWM ?
I've never been able to successfully restore a complete backup - something always ***** up along the way for me. I have to wipe, install the ROM, GAPPS, and then do an 'advanced restore' of just the /data/ partition.
Also, the latest CWM won't install for me. I just get "an error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands"
...whatever that means...
Thanks guys, I was able to solve this. I think I needed to upgrade from CWM 4.0.0.9 (obtained via rom manager) to 4.0.1.4 (obtained from a thread on these forums).
Once I had done that, I could backup to the internal SD card (previously it was trying to backup to the external SD card), and also restore the backup. So all fine.

I've the same problem.
But upgranding to CWM 4.0.1.4 doesn't helped me :/
If I've installed an ext4 rom, CWM are not able to do a nandroid backup...
With an ext3 rom, no problem.
You can make a nandroid backup with, for example, slick2x-F rom???

The recovery must be capable to support ext4 partition, try rusty's recoveries. And be sure you have enough free space on the sd card.

In my case I think it was because I was not using a version of recovery mod that was designed for the Optimus 2X. I also used the internal version, I'm not sure if that made any difference.

The recoveries from ROM Manager are designed for the O2X, and the 'official' builds. Mine are built from the same source but with a couple of minor changes... one of which is to allow EXT4 data partitions to be backed up.
Using internal or external version wouldn't have made any difference, that just lets you pick where you want your backups to be saved.

Yes, all Rusty's 4.0.x.x works perfectly with ext4 ROMs, I used Slick 2X - F and now Slick 2x G (also in ext4), and backups are not a problem.
Actually 4.0.1.0 External might not work on EXT4

with 4.0.1.4 I can't either mount /data partition with slick-F rom :/
Interesting, 'cos someone above you can. Wonder what would make yours different.

I'm wonderering the same.
I'm thinking to make a video of that :/
trying to install the external version, also if shouldn't be difference from internal.
I appreciate really much your help.
A last question:
peewster said me to "repartition everything" to make it work, what does it mean? How can i do that?

Yes! Now it works!!
Don't really know why, maybe first with internal version i've messed up something...now the external version it is working good!
Hmmm, that could just be another **** up on my part
Will look into it later and make sure I actually made the internal one work on EXT4.
But the internal 4.0.1.4 works fine for me! External 4.0.0.9 from rom manager did not. Also ext4.
If I restore an ext3 rom over an ext4 rom, what happens? Does it reformat the partition? Just wondering because I'm toying with the idea of a sort-of dual boot setup, where I change from a modaco type rom to a CM7 rom depending on need.
You need to convert back to EXT3 to do that, very easy to do so, there is a CWM script for it (wipes the phone though).
Or you could use the universal converter zip to convert CM7 to EXT4 instead.
I might investigate it, my CM7 is on ext4 right now, so my only problem would be that it is the only rom that uses ext4, everything else is on ext3.
But probably not really worth doing for me, since I would only gain HDMI mirroring. I dont really use A2DP and never use FM radio. HDMI mirroring does sound useful for an upcoming holiday though.
Hi Guys, just flashed my O2X with CM7 and it worked fine but for some reason its not detecting the internal storage. What happened is that I followed the instructions, saved the zip on my external sd card and then flashed it. Did I do something wrong?
Heyy could you say what CM7 version you are using? Plus it sounds like you did everything fine.

Nope, you did it right.
Sounds like you haven't used CM7 before, it's easy to think the internal SD is gone, but it isn't. CM7 by default mounts the external SD-card as /sdcard, where your internal card used to be mounted.
The internal card is at /mnt/emmc.
There is an option in the settings somewhere where you can switch them around (don't have CM7 installed at the moment, but just search in the CM7 Nightlies thread and you'll find lots of info about it.)

I think you are wrong, i am on CM7.1 and by default my internal sd card was in mnt/sdcard and external is mnt/emmc. Now I use FadeFX 1.6 update, which changes this to internal sdcard - mnt/sdcard and external sdcard to mnt/sdcardexternal_sd as it is on samsung ROMs..... (for this you need to check this feature in settings you mentioned) ....

Ok, they may have switched the defaults around since the last time I tried it. Doesn't take away from the main point of the post though. Mount points are different in CM7 from what people are used to, and confusing if you don't know about it.
But only external sd is different... internal it is the same, isn't it ???

No, I was right. (Just installed the latest nightly)
External card mounted as /mnt/sdcard, also reachable from a symbolic link /sdcard.
Internal card mounted as /mnt/emmc.
default install.
Because This feature was introduced from nightly #148 or something .... And he installed CM7.1 wich is nightly #144 I am on this too, so I know how it was after installation.

Nonsense. It's been like that since nightly #1. There were however KANGs floating around which switched mountpoints, you may have used one of those.
Thanks for the info guys...yes this is my first custom ROM and my first CM so sorry for being noob LOL
For some reason its now working. What I did was rebooted my phone, removed the external SD, and it somehow assigned sdcard for internal storage. Rebooted the phone and put back the external SD, and its now emmc...weird but it works now. I just have to move my apps all over the place

No i was on stock... I was reading nightly thread.... This is the way that I understand :
Before nightly #149 thing was fine, but after this nightly users must check option "use internal storage" and then everything works fine...
If i got it wrong, i apologize.

You're in the wrong forum, aren't you? That's why everything's confused, you're talking about CM7 on the Galaxy? This is the Optimus 2X forum.

Hi, how are you.
To identify the SD card In custom ROM, What should I do?
After installing the ROM, SD card not detected (I mean the internal memory)
Rom that I've tested:
aokp_20140914_jenad_kitkat_no-internal_AOKP_NIGHTLY
cm-11-20140803-swapped_storages-UNOFFICIAL-jenad
omni-4.4.2-20140401-jenad-NIGHTLY
omni-4.4.4-20140914-jenad-no_internal-EXPIRIMENTAL
omni-4.4.4-20141102-jenad-no_internal-NIGHTLY
But all of them got this problem
These roms are compiled for having sdcard0 the SDCard!
If you want some roms with normal sdcard0, get the CM11 By TheWhisp or CM10.1 by TheWhisp or bleached's version!

bleached's version! ? What?
I tested the ROM's.
cm-11-20131229-UNOFFICIAL-jenad
cm-11-20140307-UNOFFICIAL-jenad
But the problem remains.
Now I use CM 10.1
But I want to use CM11 Or OmniRom 4.4.x
From which thread you have downloaded these roms?
'Cause if you go to this thread CM11/AOKP/OmniROM + cwm 6.0.4.5 there are builds built for having sdcard0 the external sdcard.
The CM 10.1 bleached's version is here CM 10.1 Improved 07/07
And there aren't fixes for this problem. Sorry!

You can use it at your own risk, because (as I have tested on my device.. Which model you have? - I have NFC version) if you have NFC version camera doesn't work and OmniROM stops at bootanimation.
Well I've tested all the ROM's. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=5070#downloads)
But they all have problems
My phone version is without NFC
=
There is no solution ??
If you want to internal and external sd, use cm10.1.
If you want to only internal, use builds by theWhisp or ericas (on this builds I have both, internal and external sd, because I don't have such a problems).
If you want to have external sd mounted as internal and no internal at all, use builds with switched card by bleached.
