im still learning here boys and girls
but
whats the best spl to run with cyan 4.2 ?
and what are the advantages etc etc
thanks
Hardspl would be just fine, but if you want to walk that dangerous line you could load the "danger" spl. Having the new spl will free up more space on your phone and allow you to install a hero rom if your ever wanting to try. If you do decide to go with the spl just read and reread. Make sure to have the new radio installed first then flash the new spl. It would help to have whatever rom you want to use loaded on the sd card to cause the new spl will overwrite your existing rom so you would have to load the new one.
Well i think with Haykuro's Spl, he reduced the space occupied by the cache partiiton which stores any rom u get in the over the air updates. So in turn since u've rooted ur phone n dont need tht partition, its gud to b able to use some of tht space as Rom.
Hard SPL for starters. Once you know more - then you can update to Danger.

Danger all the way, just to say you survived it
Flashing to Danger SPL isn't rocket science. If you have the PVT board, then you're good to go. Just flash the latest radio first, reboot, flash the new SPL, reboot and get stuck at the Tmobile G1 screen, hit Call+Menu+Back and immediately hold the Home key to return to Recovery, and flash any ROM. Done.
i was rooting a friends g1, i missed a step n tried flashing a rom without having the danger spl installed first, i cant get into my spl menu by holding camera and power nor can i get into my recovery nor can i get into adb... my phone turns on and stays at the g1 logo... any advice?
bricked.. look in the development section for un-bricking guides... although it'll cost some money i think.. i'll look for one myself and post back with a link

Just because the phone is rooted doesn't mean it is magical and can't be bricked. You have to have the latest radio before you can flash the danger SPL. Depending on which method you used(likely RC29 method) that radio would not be anywhere close to what is needed. And, yes, once you flash the danger SPL without the newest radio, you have a brick and no way getting back from it.
Hopefully your friend is understanding and it isn't a major disaster getting a replacement G1 for him.
Flash Danger SPL without Latest Radio = Bricked.
I hope that your friend can get a replacement without much complications, because that one is screwed.
You could give him your phone...
the phone already had the newest radio installed... it was a brand new G1.. =X did i still have to flash it with the radio on this forums?

Most likely yes usually when something is brand new it was manufactured months ago. Its unlikely that it included the proper radio. try blaming your friend lol good luck!

Brand new or not, most every root method has you downgrade to RC29, which takes you back to a radio that is about a year old now.

That's just how you know he doesn't know what he's talking about. "Froyo Radio" Ha!
But I think he means the latest radio for the G1, and remember don't post about him he has been banned.... they will delete your post.
I'm in a good mood here's the lastest radio:

Dueces.
Ok, so iv search & tryed flashing for 6+ hours last night to no avail.... I had the phone flashed before to this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=722801&highlight=wipe+battery+stats. and it had a battery drain so i put my phone back to unrooted stock and try a freash flash of the same rom again.... this time around im up to the point where the phone is rooted with a generic g1 rom, hard spl (the one with the white screen and the 3 android guys on a skateboard) and RA recovery. I tryed to flash the mod rom and after flash its stays in the "t-mobile/g1 start screen" iv left it at that screen for 10 minutes and nothing is happening. I can restore my nand from right before the atempted flash and get back to where im rooted with the generic g1 1.6 rom. Iv tryed partitioning, wipeing before flash.... what am i missing here? lol. Im new to the android thing as i just upgraded from a HTC 8925 windows phone..... but im lost this time around
So, let me get this straight.
1st, you downgraded to 1.0 (dreaming.nbh or something like that)
2nd, flashed Amon RA.
3rd, flashed Generic Rooted ROM!
4th, flashed Custom ROM that you want.
Then it rebooted into G1 screen, right?

Correct. It just hangs in the G1 screen, no endless boot loop or anything. I tryed partitioning it ext 2/3 and everything. Maybe im not letting it sit long enough after the cutom rom flash.... it shouldnt stay at the G1 screen more then 10 minutes right?
What rado and SPL u have?

i got it working, i unrooted the phone to start from scratch and went by this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=727688&highlight=custom+nbh
one thing i noticed i was doing different was i was doing the swap size at 32 instead of 96. maybe not why i was having a problem???? the guide is for cm6 but i went from cm6 to 6.1 and it worked fine

Hello,
i had android 1.6 on my g1 i tried to upgrade to 2.2 and i bricked it then i went to fix it by JTAG. then i am trying different ways to install roms but it never does.
sometimes it makes loop of restart
sometimes i install the radio and spl exactly as a post here says but at the end it says that setup cannot verify the update package!!!!
now i have r7 on my phone so can any one please to give me exact steps to do with exact files to install at least android 2.2 ? because i tried so hard follow many posts but it never work.
thank you for your help guys
Are you sure you have a non stock spl and radio. Most roms won't install if the spl isn't changed. I think it has to do with the size of the roms. The stock spl will only load up to 44 mb. (Or something like that) the new spl changes the partition to 90 (or somethin....)
I am sure most froyo roms are larger than the stock spl will allow. I would start by checkin what it says in your bootloader screen. With phone off hold the power and camera button and it should take you to the bootloader screen. Get your hboot and spl number and see if it is the danger spl or stock.
