After trying many PDF viewing apps on my Froyo'd Nook, I have still not found one that supports (well) the embedded links or a novel navigation scheme allowing me to get back to the TOC easily.
Im curious... what are you using?
is there a way to do "article view" in DL'ed pdf magazines
Went ahead and tried pretty much every free pdf viewer in the market. Doesn't seem like any of them I tried let me follow the hyperlink.
However. I did find that uploading the pdf to google docs and then viewing it through a web browser like Dolphin HD allowed me to follow the hyperlinks... Not the best option, by any means.
Possibly one of the paid office suites allows hyperlinks. I'd email the developers to make sure before buying since you only get 15 min to return.
Found one: BeamReader PDF Viewer will follow hyperlinks. Go to the market and download the 10 day free trial first before purchasing. Looks like it costs $10 for full version.
Also: Reading the description for ezPDF Reader (only $0.99), says "links" under features. I'm guessing this will allow you to follow links.
Please report back if you try it. I'm interested in knowing if it works. Thanks
I've heard good things about RepliGo. You can see it in action in the video on the cerience.com website (/products/reader/android). The forum won't let me post the complete link.
If you try it, please reply back with your thoughts as I haven't tried it yet.

I am using ezPDF and am impressed, has TOC and functional hyperlinks. This was the dealbreaking feature for me since I was used to goodReader on the ipad - this is almost as good. Any specific questions - jusk ask!
I've tried every one I could find because I'm using my NC to display words to songs during my live performances instead of using the MS Access database I used to use. I've found for my purposes the RepliGo Reader works best for me. Bookmarks seem to work well, you can zoom a page and when you go to next page it remembers zoom level. It is not free but for what it does I really like it.

I remember when I had my BlackBerry and upgraded to the 4.5 OS, Docs to Go was included free as part of the OS applications.

Has anybody tried it? Bit of a challenge to buy it since paid apps aren't available in Canada, so before I go to the trouble, does DTG support any real document formats, like ODT, or is it strictly limited to microcrap?

I bought it. No, at this time, it is not as good as the Palm or other version, but it works. I use it to read and edit my MS Word documents. I also used it to open a Excel document, but that really doesn't matter to me too much.
Just for you, I tried, it said it cannot open because it is not a valid MS Word 97-2008a.
Thanks for checking. Guess they won't be getting any money from me.
You know they will end up making google docs. One day.
Or you can use Shead Spreet app....I think it will read in excel data.

I agree... they need a mobile version BADLY!!!! The funny thing is, I believe Google docs. works with Windows Mobile and not Android. That is more of a browser thing but still. Its just plain stupid!!! And why does the Sapphire have a pdf viewer and the G1 doesn't?! It's about time for another RC update so JF can return to do work his magic.

I been thinking about getting that one. How well does it handle larger files (lets say ones larger than 1-2 MB?)
Google docs is pointless since it depends on a network connection. It also puts potentially security sensitive information out of your personal control (which is almost always against the rules when dealing with other people's data).

I believe they would need to make a offline Google docs app, kind of like the offline gmail app they built.
GDocs now on the marketplace. Not made by google, but looks like it has on and offline support. I am downloading it now. oh and its free.
Well tested it out, and does not work well at all, but it in early beta I think it said .21 So it has time, But at least someone is working on it.
just updated and works a bit better, It will not pull down info from the web, and update info from g1. But will not update data back down to g1. only way to is to delete doc off the phone and re download it.

I have docs to go, and it isn't even really noticeably slower opening 2+MB files. It handles them just fine. I even threw a 7MB doc file with embedded images at it, no problem.
I just had a look at that and it has a *very very* long way to go. Its basically worthless and I don't expect it to go anywhere near far enough to actually be useful. I suspect that it was whipped together in about a half hour. All it is is a text editor, it downloads the TEXT from your google doc and stores it in an sqlite3 database file. No formatting or anything. It doesn't even save the odt file to local. I seriously doubt that the author has the skills to develop a full word processor.

Hi Guys
Is there an app/browser that allows us to
1) Schedule a daily login into a website
1) download defined levels of the site and save the pages onto the sd card.
3) view the offline pages in a mobile layout
I'm trying to read a newspaper page that I've subscribed to offline on my phone.
I've tried opera mini but it only saves the page i am viewing and does not dig down several layers ahead. Defeats the purpose, as if i can see it, i'll just read it.
Thanks
i would like to know for something like that
Quadriple that.
thread moved to Q&A

I'm guessing this newspaper doesn't have an RSS feed? Cause that would be too easy...
If the paper has an RSS feed, then you could use Newsrob to automatically download the feed and download all the pages as well.
+100000 on that.
There is plenty of applications for regular Windows, but so far no luck finding one for windows Mobile.
Thx
I have ported the Windows Mobile 6.x program Freda to Windows Phone 7.
The program is an Ebook reader for books in EPUB (DRM-free), HTML and TXT format.
I've published a demo video.
[UPDATE: See here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795753&page=15 for the latest version of the program.]
Is there a way to reformat the text at all? It's going to be really difficult to read with that little spacing between lines, etc.

There are options on the 'Settings' screen that allow you to:
add space between paragraphs
increase the line spacing (or decrease it to 0.9 if you want an even denser reading experience)
change font
change font size
define an external margin (a blank border) around the edge of the page
Between these, you'll probably find a way to get an appearance that works for you

I will be adding such features as:
- download from any OPDS catalog, not just Wattpad's system
- view and navigate the book's table of contents
- manage settings (i.e. save and use 'presets').
- ...
Maybe that will be complicated enough for you

Yep, I spent 30 mins at the O2 shop yesterday, getting fingermarks on the screen of an HTC HD7 and checking that Freda works OK on a real phone. Conclusion: it's usable, but there are a few niggles. I'll be pushing out a new release in a few days to deal with them ...

Fair dues, developing such a complex app without even having the phone!
I'm interested in particular in having an ereader that can read epub files from my own server, since we don't seem to be able to add epub or txt files to our WP7 devices just yet.
Thanks for all the hard work.
This is pretty impressive. I look forward to downloading you app! Keep up the good work, man.

The app knows how to work with any server that can produce an OPDS catalog, and I have tested it with Calibre (both using the Calibre Content Server and also the Calibre2Opds solution based on DropBox). There is one major ugliness: because of the brain-dead way that Microsoft have implemented (well 'not implemented') HTTP authentication, it only works if you set a blank password on your Calibre server. Not really an issue if you're using it on your own local wireless network, but not suitable for wider internet use.
I'm hoping Microsoft will roll out a patch for this in the Q1 release; if they don't, I can code proper authentication myself, but it will be a tedious job.
zune doesn't support epub???
thx jim
!!!great job
Is it still in Marketplace I can't find it anymore....
Sorry looked on phone and PC.

Jim, could you please check this catalog: http://81.1.213.130:8091/opds/
Freda can access OPDS but can't read epubs from that site (FBReaderJ for Android works without problems)

It's true - I admit it. Freda is off the marketplace at the moment.
There was a problem with the last update, and I have temporarily pulled it. It should be back in a couple of days.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thanks! I tried to write a review and rate it from within the Zune software, wouldn't let me do that either. (used your web site link to find it that way) There seems to be a lot of recent additions of ereaders in the Marketplace. Freda still tops them though.
Is there an app for the Xoom that lets you fill in forms? Adobe Reader doesn't allow it
I can't really give you a positive response but the following three programs don't allow filling an Adobe 9 form either:
Documents To Go (paid)
Picsel Smart Office (paid)
Quick Office HD (incl w/ Xoom)
Did you try a market search?
yup.. i did, thanks for the heads up though!
Repligo does what you need.
Repligo is the only .PDF reader that also allows you to draw/write free hand in a file that I found after searching for 5 days. I purchased it ($4.99) and figured it would be worth it because now I can take digital contracts to all clients and have them signed and copies emailed to them in minutes. If you search youtube for Repligo you will also see a full video explanation of the features.

Free hand is not exactly the same as filling out forms but it's a start. Thanks for the info! Hopefully companies will discover the value of the android tablet market soon.
[sent with Android technology]
I don't want to point out the obvious but if you have a scanner and printer then print the page outfill it in and scan it back to the computer... I think you could also print the page and scan it back in the computer under a different format so you could type it then do what you got to do
Think of PDF forms as being in the same space as HTML forms. You have discrete fields with the ability to have logic and calculations in Adobe's version of javascript. Handwriting over it or printing out negates the whole point of making it an Acrobat form.
I was told that the Adobe app supported forms but I have not tried it, so the person I was talking with was probably mistaken. I think Adobe themselves would be the most likely to support form elements in a standalone manner (i.e. not using the Acrobat Forms Server, or whatever they call it now).
thanks for all the replies. i wanted to use my xoom for work and have clients fill out forms via the PDF.
This is problem that seems continuous to all my android devices (evo 3d, galaxy s2, and touchpad with schizoid) and I was wondering if anyone had a solution:
Is there any way to open up pdf files that are embedded in frames? Thanks
I have tried multiple browsers (chrome, dolphin, integrated android one) with no success.

I've never used schizoid only AOSP, but when I click on a link with a pdf file it's downloaded, then I use an Adobe reader to read them.
Hope this helps.
It is only terrible websites that have PDF files in frames. like this:
ugh unable to post link to it: if one searches on google "pdf in frame" it is the first link.
I wouldn't care about 1990's web design except one website I really need access to won't load!
Thanks!

Maybe this link will help : http://drupal.org/node/
From the little I read, it seems Firefox has a plug in for this. Take a look at it, maybe that will be your solution.
Good luck.

Displaying PDF in frame
Posted by steve22 on September 20, 2006 at 5:21pm
I have all the pdf files in one folder www.mysite.com/images/ . Is it possible that via some php script whenever user access those pdf files either directly or through google, it is opened inside a frame (with my website's logo, menu etc as the top banner above the pdf) instead of opening directly as pdf file?

Opening PDFs inside browsers
Posted by styro on September 20, 2006 at 8:43pm
is a browser plugin thing at the client, the webmaster can't control that. Some PDF readers or OSes don't include browser plugins for PDFs, and always handle PDFs as downloads. Some paranoid users (after all Acrobat Reader has some security issues apparently) might switch off PDF browser plugins.
As for opening in a frame, you couldn't do that with a link directly to the PDF (eg public downloads). With private downloads you might be able to add to the system (?) module to change the download pages to use frames somehow - but IMO it would be a lot of pain for very little (if any) benefit.

With Firefox on Android you can install the PDF Viewer as an addon. This is the viewer that now ships with the desktop version. I've used it before to view PDFs in the browser, its not as smooth as Adobe, but will probably work for you:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/pdfjs/
