I just edit the framework-res.apk for my milestone2,
it have a black status bar now
but the text-color still black,I try deodex the services.odex ,edit it and smali
insert classes.dex into services.jar
adb push services.jar /system/framework
but it doesn't work... and cann't boot~~
what's the right way to deodex it?
I'm having problems deodexing too...
I used dsixda's Android Kitchen to deodex the framework from my system.img (created a blank boot.img to be able to load the files), but can't deodex android policy and service. They're the only two apks I can't deodex.
Someone could post a tutorial or already patched files.

PS: Could a mod put this into Dev Forum of MS2 ? Since deodexing & Framework stuff is less or more developing..

I have JI6 (unofficial froyo) version of Captivate (i897)...
I like to theme the notification bar (Transparent, icons, etc.) without any ROM.
I have tried Cognition ROM, but random shutdown was killing me...
So, anyone know how?
by SDK/ADB, root manager, metromorph, Odin, or whatever you can do - THAT WORKS!!!

It depends on what you want and where you want it. Certain changes require changes to the xml codebehind and some do not. It is not as easy as it may seem for the average user.
You have to use winrar to open the theme or rom you are using.go to the twframework-res.apk.open that DO NOT UN ZIP ANYTHING!! then look for status bar background.9 drag and drop onto desk top or folder whatever then edit in photoshop or whatever you have and put back save and put it back in the folder. If I can get by a computer today there is thread out the will tell you do to do it that is big help.I you have some problems I can do some editing for you but would have to wait until I get home I am out of town.oh and when you put the edit status backgroung.9 back into the zip file make sure it is stored and compressed

Along this same line of questioning........
All I want to do is remove the transparency from the notification drop down in my current rom / theme. Is there a single value in an xml file to adjust this feature?
It's a .png that you'll need to change the opacity of.

Thanks for the thread been looking for something like that but someone psoted somethign saying that you had to use a cpativate rom for it because the i9000 roms have different file types in them
Now there is theme kitchen, upload a apk and you can apply themes. Then after some time, you get a new apk in a cwm flashable zip.
Edit, link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990829
How can I edit the control bar ?
Any help would be appreciated.
I can provide you whatever you need from the ROM.
Thanks !
Anyone ? .
I have no idea about you r phone...but they are 9.png´s and probably in framework-res.apk.
I've searched everything in framework-res.apk but I cannot find them anywhere.
what´s your Rom?

yeah, framework-res.apk
Here you go.
Thank you !
u use a theme?..cause the battery icon is different..
Yes, I have modified it using the online theme kitchen.
Only the notification bar is modified.
ok.
It´s all in frameworks... but as you use kitchen, I dont know how about applying a morph over it, never tried kitchen......I would use default "void" framework and apply a morph for all your changes.
I can extract the original framework-res.apk from the void ROM. Can you do something with it ?

do morphs work on your Rom?
Haven't tried any morph yet. Any way I could check ?
Here is the original framework.
yes, take a morph for your phone and try it..a framwork morph would be good.
Sorry to say but there are none morphs for my phone. It is pretty new in this area.
Where have you found them in the framework ? Can't I modify it and then repack + sign the framework ?
Test Morph_DarkX
ok...if this test morph works on your default framework-res.apk (not kitchen!)..you can start to theme
- put "DarkX.zip" in /sdcard/AndrodThemes/
- apply with MetaMorph (app from Market)
It gets stuck at Applying framework-res.apk.

Hi everyone,
it's 3 days I'm trying to edit the framework-res.apk, but I can't make it work either with apkmanager (no errors shown) nor with apktool (here some exception errors). I've even tested the UOT Kitchen but when I flash the archive, it just doesn't run and get struck on the boot loop. Working on MoDaCo Fr16 beta3, any idea of what this could mean?
Thanks in advance,
Tiwiz
use a version 1.3.1 of APKtool instead of 1.3.2
I'll try and update the post if I succed or not

The problem already started on FR16 because it happened to me since FR16.
Dunno how to ask him, already posted on MoDaCo forum as well... trying to tweet him.
Btw, tried even with new apktool 1.4.1 but nothing, still struck on boot loop.
I'll attach my framework-res, in case someone finds out how to deal with it.

i tried with apkmanager 1.4.7. , also no success !
UOT kitchen the same ...
i can´t find out what´s wrong ...
folder names have changed (from drawable-hdpi-v4 to drawable-hdpi) but this can´t be the problem or ?
As a workaround, you can use themed framework-res.apk from FR14, it works for me on FR17 ...

Fix builded framework-res.apk
Hi guys,
I got same problem. I fix it by these steps after compiling with apktool 1.3.1 is done.
1. Open original framework-res.apk file in 7zip.
2. Open compiled version of framework-res.apk from dist folder in 7zip.
3. Drag & Drop META-INF and AndroidManifest.xml from original into compiled.
That's all. Now compiled version is fixed & signed. This extra step works for me.
Can't get it work... could you take a look to mine? I can't understand what's wrong with it :-S
I'll post both mine and the original apk from MoDaCo's Kitchen.

take this one, it works with UOT Kitchern and you can apply without bootloop in FR18
orig.framework_MoDaCo_fr14
What worked for me is this:
Compile a theme using the upload of the framework-res.
Then when it is ready replace the update-binary, and insert the lge-res.apk in the same map as framework-res. Do this with a program like winrar.
It was a pain in the butt getting there for a newbie like me.
files you need are in this rar:

My theme as a example:

Hi
I had played with Virtuous Ten Studio and i was trying to learn from scrats.
in the insanly cool sense there is an bad translation to danish in systemUI, in english the automatic brightness translated to automatisk lydstyrker, also automatic sound, in decompiled systemUI with VTS and edited the xml file for danish and then compiled the apk file again and pushed it to the device and checked for permission and edited them as they shoud in the file and rebooted.
i also tryed recompiled the apk and copyed it over on sd card, set permission and copy into system/app folder again and then reboots with same result
results was:
NO STATUSBAR i tryied everything but the only way i could fix it was using the orignial apk file again ?
what did i do wrong?

not sure.. didn't find any guide on theming / modding Sense esp 3.6.. u have anything on it?
as i understands it, VTI can maby do it, it supports sense 3 and up, i have maby some link at my home laptop but not here at work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473293
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645650
there is a start maby
Edit:
after reading the link about modding battery icon it makes sense :
Sense 4.0/3.6 (ICS)
1. Pull /system/app/SystemUI.apk from your phone
2. Rename SystemUI.apk to SystemUI.apk.zip
3. Using WinRAR copy attached "res" folder (in zip) directly into the root of SystemUI.apk.zip
4. Leave the settings and just hit OK.
5. Rename back to SystemUI.apk and push to device
*This method may work for Sense 3.6 ROMs as well. If not, see below.
i had read a place that the systemUI.apk is signed, and only works if it is signed, but when you decompile it and compile it again the sign disapper. therefore as i understands it you may not decompile the original systemUI.apk file, you just push the files that you edited in the file, as it say i point 3. i had not tried it out yet but i do to night and i may think it will work

I always use the last method that you describe here when modding frameworks and SystemUI's, and had no problem so far with any ROM i modded/themed, not too many to be honest, i modified Sense v3.6's Battery only, but that change was in framework-res.apk not in the SystemUi.apk.
Don't know if this can help you in any way, but i believe feedback is always welcomed

You need root to replace system apps, and some file explorer that allows messing with root files modding systemui should do the trick btw.

Try NinjaMorph and MetaMorph Android App.
But you must have battery icon pack.
and other icon pack like signal.etc
you want to change.
The simple and fastest Using UotKitchen but Work Online.
You must copy your systemUI.apk and framework-res.apk to sd and transfer to your PC then upload via internet connection.
You cannot using UotKitchen. if Full you must wait.
The best way is change systemUi.apk to systemUI.zip exctract and change every icon you like to change but make sure image file format and resolution size is same. (edit this if you want change signal.etc)
Note: Your systemUI(Notification/Stat bar) force close after doing this and work normally if you reboot your phone.
Same if you want edit framework-res.apk
(edit this if want to change batttery logo.etc)
after finish zip again and rename file extension to apk.
and how to install it?? you can push it via rootexplorer & root browser. to system.
Dont forget to change permission rw-r-r
Note: Risk to push framework directly to system/framework because if push direct to your phone can make your phone soft brick/bootlooph.
why bootlooph because you cannot change permission.
then How to push ?
simple and tricky.
move your mod framework-res.apk in system/(here) set permission rw-r-r
then after that push to system/app
just replace your old framework .
automated reboot after doing this.
then finish.
second make flashable.zip
All of this 100% safe if you not make a mistake.
Big problem if fail only bootlooph or soft brick.
