Hi everyone,
it's 3 days I'm trying to edit the framework-res.apk, but I can't make it work either with apkmanager (no errors shown) nor with apktool (here some exception errors). I've even tested the UOT Kitchen but when I flash the archive, it just doesn't run and get struck on the boot loop. Working on MoDaCo Fr16 beta3, any idea of what this could mean?
Thanks in advance,
Tiwiz
use a version 1.3.1 of APKtool instead of 1.3.2
I'll try and update the post if I succed or not

The problem already started on FR16 because it happened to me since FR16.
Dunno how to ask him, already posted on MoDaCo forum as well... trying to tweet him.
Btw, tried even with new apktool 1.4.1 but nothing, still struck on boot loop.
I'll attach my framework-res, in case someone finds out how to deal with it.

i tried with apkmanager 1.4.7. , also no success !
UOT kitchen the same ...
i can´t find out what´s wrong ...
folder names have changed (from drawable-hdpi-v4 to drawable-hdpi) but this can´t be the problem or ?
As a workaround, you can use themed framework-res.apk from FR14, it works for me on FR17 ...

Could you post a working framework-res.apk? I'd try to use it on the kitchen and see if it works. Tweeted to Paul twice about this bug, but no answer yet.

Tell me what modifications you want to apply and i'll upload the one i compiled. Then someone needs to test if it works cuz i dont have an o2x (maybe i will in the future)...

I'd just need a basic (LG version) framework-res.apk that surely works, but I can't find it anywhere... in case, I can test yours, if you like

Fix builded framework-res.apk
Hi guys,
I got same problem. I fix it by these steps after compiling with apktool 1.3.1 is done.
1. Open original framework-res.apk file in 7zip.
2. Open compiled version of framework-res.apk from dist folder in 7zip.
3. Drag & Drop META-INF and AndroidManifest.xml from original into compiled.
That's all. Now compiled version is fixed & signed. This extra step works for me.
Can't get it work... could you take a look to mine? I can't understand what's wrong with it :-S
I'll post both mine and the original apk from MoDaCo's Kitchen.

take this one, it works with UOT Kitchern and you can apply without bootloop in FR18
orig.framework_MoDaCo_fr14
What worked for me is this:
Compile a theme using the upload of the framework-res.
Then when it is ready replace the update-binary, and insert the lge-res.apk in the same map as framework-res. Do this with a program like winrar.
It was a pain in the butt getting there for a newbie like me.
files you need are in this rar:

My theme as a example:

Compiling framework-res.apk using your method still gives me bootloops. So it doesn't really work.

Hi can anyone suggest an alternative tool for apktool. It just doesn't work for me. Whatever I do either gives compiling errors or just a bootloop. Thanks guys.
It's nice to know I'm not the only one. Anything past extract optimize and zip is useless for me. I have never had it actually compile an .apk without an error.
I'm having serious problems compiling the framework-res from a CM6.1 based ROM. It decompiles fine, but won't recompile I get hundreds of errors about missing referances.
I only wanna edit a few XML's

Thanks for replying, but I worked it out. I had some dodgy .9.png's that were breaking the compile, so I just had to remove them before compiling.
For anyone else having trouble, check the logs after you decompile to see if there are any messages about .9.pngs. If there are, remove them from the decompiled folder, compile when you are finished, then just add the .9.png's back in afterwards with WinRAR.
I was tryna change the color of the text and the border in the bottom popup menu for my Gingerbread theme

The reason that happens is the original "dev" who themed the framework did not decompile/modify/recompile. He merely dragged and dropped the modified .9.png
Hence when u decompile, apktool cannot find the necessarry data within resources.arsc to decompile the .9.png and hence when u go to recompile, it complains. Ur safest bet is to always decompile an apk as close to stock as possible.
Where do you place your framework-res.apk I placed mine in the platform tools folder but apktool can not find it
How can I edit the control bar ?
Any help would be appreciated.
I can provide you whatever you need from the ROM.
Thanks !
Anyone ? .
I have no idea about you r phone...but they are 9.png´s and probably in framework-res.apk.
I've searched everything in framework-res.apk but I cannot find them anywhere.
what´s your Rom?

yeah, framework-res.apk
Here you go.
Thank you !
u use a theme?..cause the battery icon is different..
Yes, I have modified it using the online theme kitchen.
Only the notification bar is modified.
ok.
It´s all in frameworks... but as you use kitchen, I dont know how about applying a morph over it, never tried kitchen......I would use default "void" framework and apply a morph for all your changes.
I can extract the original framework-res.apk from the void ROM. Can you do something with it ?

do morphs work on your Rom?
Haven't tried any morph yet. Any way I could check ?
Here is the original framework.
yes, take a morph for your phone and try it..a framwork morph would be good.
Sorry to say but there are none morphs for my phone. It is pretty new in this area.
Where have you found them in the framework ? Can't I modify it and then repack + sign the framework ?
Test Morph_DarkX
ok...if this test morph works on your default framework-res.apk (not kitchen!)..you can start to theme
- put "DarkX.zip" in /sdcard/AndrodThemes/
- apply with MetaMorph (app from Market)
It gets stuck at Applying framework-res.apk.

insert classes.dex into services.jar
adb push services.jar /system/framework
but it doesn't work... and cann't boot~~
what's the right way to deodex it?
I'm having problems deodexing too...
I used dsixda's Android Kitchen to deodex the framework from my system.img (created a blank boot.img to be able to load the files), but can't deodex android policy and service. They're the only two apks I can't deodex.
Someone could post a tutorial or already patched files.

I found a kitchen to make your own theme's but then i got stuck because cwm would instal it.

Upload to external sd and instal with cwm

This mod is not working for me.. I'm using BlazingDragon rom FR18 and created my own battery mod from the kitchen using BlazingDragon own framework. After creating the UOT zip file, I've replace the update-binary and inserted the lge-res.apk file from the file that was uploaded in the same directory of the framework.res. After flashing, i have a boot-loop.
Tried wiping cache and dalvik but still to no avail... Any ideas pls??

theming framework-res.apk from versions newer than FR16 will always result in bootloop, no idea why ...
i posted original framework from FR14 here, you can theme it with UOT Kitchen and apply it to MCR Fr18, it will work flawless

hello
i cant figure out how to decompile and compile framework-res.apk from free optimus project nightly 6
i tried many versions of apktool and apkmanager some of them works if i change the version for compiling and decompiling and i have one version which is extra for ics and this works without changing
but if i include a framework-res.apk in the rom.zip which is successfully decompiled and compiled (without errors) the phone gets into a bootloop.
can anybody teach me how to do this correctly?
i already have tried to sign the apk and repackaged the whole rom

if i'm missing any software apktool won't compile without errors or it won't finally start cause it checks all needed sources before starting.
which category do u think is right? q&a - this is not just a question, there's an simple answer 4. dev - i haven't developed anything and want to publish it - theming apps - nothing to do with this.. :cyclops:
