Hey guys. I'm really interested in this phone, but I have questions.

1. 50/50 as always
2. but of course
3. if you return it with a rom flashed on there the warranty is void (I think)
4. not sure about slingbox, I think it should work but don't have it. I don't think anyone has ever said movies and music don't work on the phone, so I don't know about these conflicting reports.
5. depends on the IM client you use.
All these things can be searched if you need more info.

1. I'd say 99% its not crippled.
2. No, not in the Windows department anyways. You can get a Nokia N96 sans Windows or an HTC X7501 but its huge cuz of its 5" screen.
3. No trouble.
4. Everything seems to run fine on mine.
5. If you get the hacked AIM 2.0, no charges for texts. Otherwise, you will be charged.
So you guys are giving me pretty good reviews on this phone. Where's a good place to look for software?
Also, when I say "crippled" I am talking about the graphics driver not being on it. And when I talk about things like movies, I mean I've heard they run slowly and look bad because of the graphics driver not being used.
Anything else you guys can tell me? I mean I want to be sold on this phone... I want backup on it hahaha.
For example, is it really 30 dollars a month for unlimited data access? Cause I kinda want to use Google Map's + GPS, but not pay or be near a hotspot. How is it with detecting hotspots?
ok don't listen to the driver bull**** man. The videos play fine. I watch movies on my phone with no problem. I stream my movies from my home pc through orb.com and the quality is perfect. I never get that lip-sync effect. Seriously people need to stop *****ing about video drivers already. Like I previosly stated unless you expect to watch live video feeds from Mars then you can complain. Most of the video lag issues can be soloved by going into the settings and tweaking them. (TCPMP player settings) I personally never had to do that. This phone is the best phone I've ever had and I've been in the phone game for a minute. As for your other question. If you want to find the most up to date software, this is the place. THey even have the files so you can download them directly on your omputer withougt having to go through a millions sites. Hope this helps.
How is your laptop with detecting hotspots? Same thing for the TILT. You can install a program called WiFiFoFum on your TILT when you get it. It sniffs out hotspots and tells your if they are secure or not. You can pay 19.99 unlimited internet on your phone. Add the feature through the website when you log into your acct. When you get the phone tell them YOU DO NOT WANT A DATA PLAN! I stress this because reps at the store will add unneccesary things you may not need. Like telenav promotion, mobitv promotion, push to talk promotion, etc. Make sure they show you a detail of whats on your account so they don't jerk you over. I personally never done it but working at a store I've seen everyone do it just to get that extra commission. You will love the phone I promise.
If your primary usage for a phone is as a multimedia device, then get an iPhone. The Tilt is absolute **** at playing movies and there is no miracle "fix" in sight.
The one benefit to owning an HTC product is this board. Aside from a handful of apologists who insist that their Kaisers/Tilts are perfect in every way, there are a ton of knowledgeable, helpful people who do some really cool stuff.

You can't fool me sir. I have seen the iPhone. I've used the iPhone. It's not good. It's a great novelty item, but for everyday use I can't imagine it being anything serviceable. I didn't have to go beyond typing on both to realize the iPhone and I would never get along. Plus I like surfing the real internet.
ANYWAY:
1. So I plan on flashing the ROM immediately. If something bad happens to the phone (Someone on this board is complaining about his battery and said it was the third time he had to return it), what do I do to cover this fact up? How do I protect my 250 investment?
2. I don't plan on adding those insane plans, and I am definitely not using TelNav or Push to Talk. 20 dollars unlimited internet sounds about 120 better than what I thought it was (30 dollars a month) and I think I might have to take them up on that eventually.
So this is the place to be, thats good I found it then. What are some other programs I can load on this phone? I mean I want it pimped out.
A. Micro-HDSD card for added room - necessary? (Those Micro Cards are so tiny. I have a 2 Gig Micro-SD Card atm.)
B. If I put a widescreen movie on the phone, would it display 16:9? What programs do I use to play movies and media and stuff?
C. How good is Opera Mobile? Worth going from the free Opera Mini up to it? (Unless there is... cough... another way.)
D. Touch screen on this phone - multi touch? Is it awesome? Is the screen good for watching stuff and all?
E. You use outlook for mail on this thing? Is it better to just use GMail? Is there a program that will notify you of mail on the front screen, like it does with outlook? That front screen notification area is awesome by the way.
F. Speaker on the phone - how is it? It's only mono? Is it worth investing in bluetooth headphones/stereo headset?
Thats enough for right now. I have a lot of questions and I am really glad I found this site - I've been in love with this phone for months and I'm getting close to my contract expiring. AND it just dropped in price by 50 bucks, online at least.
1. You are taking your chances - you cannot 'cover this fact up'. Read the battery threads - some have problems others do not - you will find out what yours does and work with it.
2. while you do NOT want a tethering plan you DO want the unlimited data plan.
3. What do you use to play GAMES? Honestly man - games play when you load them and run them.
4. You will have IE on your phone - if that is not good enough for you then load free opera and if you don't like it better then unload it.
5. is touch screen awesome - do you want a cheerleading section? It works and works well - yes you can actually look at things on it.
6. outlook works well and so does your internet mail - they are not mutually exclusive.
7. Speaker phone - is it MONO? Come on MAN!!! There is ONE SPEAKER and it is a tweater 3/8's of an inch big - no you get full surround sound on it. SHEESH!
8. Honestly - you need sto start reading - there is a wealth of information here and you need to start doing some work yourself.

I don't understand all the complaints. My Tilt plays movies just fine
1. I know there's an unbricker but Im not sure if it always works.
A. yes
B. yes. use TCPMP 0.81
C. Opera Mini > Opera Mobile
D. no multi-touch but the screen is good, hard to scratch, and easy to use
E. I use Pocket Outlook to manage two email accounts and yes there are onscreen notifications
F. Speaker is mono, yes. i use wired headphones, I dont trust BlueTooth stuff to work right ever on anything.
Hidavi you seem to love your phone just as much as I do. First off to the previous poster you are a jackass if you think the Iphone is a good phone.
Tilt has 3g internet, the REVOLUTIONARY iPHONE is running on EDGE..
Who wants to type an email by touching the screen. Most of us are ANAL when it comes to someone touching our screen.
iPhone just added EXCHANGE EMAIL support.
What company in their right mind would choose to give their employees Iphones over Blackberries... ummmm hmmmm NONE!
unless they come out with an Iphone that can read my thoughts and transcribe them in an email I won't get one.
Imagine how long it will take to write an email for a dude like me with Man hands. Enough Said
I'd like some more responses, if you guys don't mind.
I do love my phone. It owns the **** out of IPhones. My phone gets more attention then those do surprisingly. people like the tiltness and the chrome and stuff.
Is the Tilt known for being prone to breaking or something similar? Or is it a sturdy device? I plan on modding it on day 1, and I'd like some assurance it's not going to turn into a 300 dollar paperweight.
not really i've been modding it since day one...nothing wrong...dropped a few times and once on hard times...still nothing...no scratches or anything not sqeaking or sounds still really sturdy...but make sure when u mod read ALL the wiki's before doing so
Oh when I mod this thing, I will be glued to this board mashing the F5 key.
I mean I'm just going to put the Kaiser bios on it, and then put on Quake II and watch Lord of the Rings on it. Nothing special.
What should I turn the PTT button into?
By the way, as far as buying one of these goes for an existing plan - how do I do that the cheapest way possible? 300 dollars is not too appealing.
Hi, I am very new to the cellphone/ smartphone modding scene. My friend recently decided to buy a new phone so we had been looking for a good phone for him and me, so he decided either tilt or iphone. I personally think the iphone is neat, but the lack of 3rd party programs w/o jailbreak, and no keyboard (i must have a full qwerty keyboard) is a huge turn off. We both have att, so he went to the store one day and came back with the 16g iphone. He took it back the next day... so he traded it for the tilt. Well I played around with it and I bought mine the next day (this is like 4 days ago). Since then I have done quite a few things... such as find out that there is NO drivers for the gfx card... apparently none of the reviews actually came out and stated that... "sluggish at times" is not "NO VIDEO DRIVERS!!". I have also flashed about 15 times or so, tried all sorts of cabs and whatnot. Right now I am running the L26 Diamondv3 rom. Anyways since i know we don't have drivers we must make do with what we have. But if I am going to be paying an extra 30 a month for unlimited data, i might as well use it. I know that i won't be able to play any games other than very very simple 2d games. But I was hoping i would be able to at least watch youtube videos. Well, watch videos where i can actually see what is happening (not the low quality mobile youtube with horrible sound). I have tried flashvideobundle with the tcmp w/e it is plugin. It worked alright but not as well as I had hoped. I have also looked into coreplayer, but 1.) not freeware 2.) apparently dTV doesn't work anymore so you have to use DirectDraw which tears.
My dad has an iphone and i can compare his quality using edge to mine using hsdpa... of course the tilt loses...
Ok. Now onto the point. Since there isn't really any other nice phones out there (that i know of, please correct me if i'm wrong) that have a large qwerty keyboard, not one that my thumb presses 4 buttons at once.. I think I will have to stick with the tilt. But if I am, i want to be able to use $30 a month in internet. I am using opera mobile beta for my browser, but i'd also like to watch decent quality vids. So...
Does anyone know anything that I might have missed in my digging around. Any tweaks for coreplayer that you might have found that i could look into purchasing it. Or maybe something to do with flashvideobundle.
Another thing is, is that i paid $400 for this phone... and a two year contract. So... I really need this phone to work, very well.. even if it doesn't have drivers.
This brings me to the second part of my post. Since I have spent $450 w/ tax... Should i keep this phone, maybe hope HTC makes drivers/ gets sued / whatever (which probably wont happen)... Or should I take it back and invest in a different phone? My old phone is an lg Chocolate KG800 (not american version) It just has a numberpad. My phone before that was a bb with full qwerty keyboard which i fell in love with. Does anyone know a phone that my suffice either until something else comes out, (which i would need around a $100-150 ish phone) or something that i could just go ahead and buy, and be happy with. Two phones I saw earlier was the Black Jack II and the BB Curve These would probably work until something really nice comes out
I know this is an HTC site and the Kaiser subsection, but from what I read not very many people are happy with HTC... So if you could please give me an unbiased opinion on my situation i would greatly appreciate it.
Thanx , Especially to those who cooked all sorts of goodies for me to play with these past few days
I bought this phone thinking i would use gps, but i barely do!
point is, really really think about what u will actually use, vs what would be nice to have.
The tilt/kaiser will surpass, but even though its subpar at playing videos/games its still solid device.
I would love to play a game seamlessly, but then again, the only game id play is like bejeweled at the toilet. And kaiser/tilt plays it seamlessly too! FYI, With coreplayer, videos will play smoothly, and its currently being updated with flash support.(There talking to adobe and all that stuff, check out corecodec.com forums!)
A good phone w/ a slide out qwerty wont be out for a few months, and if ur planning on getting a deal with a carrier u can add a year to that.
So, if it was me and
-I want to get a good deal with a carrier
-I thought real hard and found out i really dont play doom on my phone that much.
Id get the kaiser
otherwise, if
-I have about a grand to spend on a phone
I would wait a couple months and purchase a nextgen phone.
Sony Xperia sounds nice!
Oh yeah, dont be a hater of htc because they messed up. They already do more than what other companies will do for their customers.(Offer a free Wm6.1 update, etc) To bad people dont realize that. Alot of people here expect to be spoonfed by a company thats not obligated too.
On, The GPS issue , i thought it would be nice, but I got a gps a few weeks ago so i haven't really used it. I am a college student so I need some sort of quick on the fly , yet simple note taking. So I was thinking the tilt would work. and for the most part it does. But anyways, Actually the original phone i was going to get would have been the xperia, then i saw the tilt. since they are both made by HTC I figured that it'd be probably the same device... but now i know it probably has drivers.
And I guess HTC has done some good for their customers, but what kind of company releases a $400 smartphone without drivers?...

Holy crap! One of the reasons I'm not too upset about the driver issue is because I paid ~175 for this phone. I dont know man. If you ask me, if you going to dish out that much, you might as well wait and see what HTC Diamond has to offer once/if it comes out in the US. I haven't been following the Diamond too well so I'm not even sure. Dont get me wrong, this phone is really good. When it comes to functionality and availability of support (XDA) and apps (XDA again), its really the way to go. GPS, 3g, qwerty, a dozen chefs making dozens of ROMs, a dev community taking the best of other devices to work with Tilts, and so on. These are the reasons I havent sold this phone. I say do more research and look into phones that are coming up, so I say wait. If you can find a tilt for cheaper than 450, maybe in the 200 range, then keep it, but 450....? Damn. If it helps, I got mine at BestBuy with a contract...good luck
Thats my 2ยข.
the money is ome of my biggest concerns... if it did onlycost only a hundred or a a little more.. then it would be like thats sucks.. oh well... but since i dont curently have a job at the moment (this is usibg half of my graduation money) so i really dont have the money to blow awa. my friend got a 100 percebt refund so i can to. but the internet feature is really nice. in my opinion not as good for normal browsing as the iphone, but i dont think it is worthpaying 450 plus the extra 30 for something that is mediocre..
(this was typed on a tilt on my way to clas... the text was really lagy on the input, but that could be the browser)

Have you tried youtubeplay and opera mini?
I have done all my research on the new HD7. I currently have the HD2 and love what WM7 lacks right now. Such as cut and paste and tethering. I use those all the time! But, I HATE my HD2. It freezes like crazy, always lagging, I have to soft reset 1-2 times a day. So I"m ready to upgrade to WM7. I've owned an Android before, g1, and loved it, but I like WM a bit more. I started to look at the MyTouch4g, but I keep getting pulled ot the HD7. So my dilema ow is, should I upgrade to the HD7 from my HD2. Is the current WinMo7 worth it? Has anyone has a change to play around with the new system. I've read so many good, and some "ok" and many just an HD2 with a new outfit.
I also know it's a personal choice by far. But what are YOUR opinions. What do you like/dislike compared to others.
I have to say I'm loving mine and think it's a good thing (in a funny way) that there are features missing. We get to look forward to updates to a system that has really great foundations.
Having said that there is a bit of a danger in thinking that every missing feature and every imaginable improvement will make it into imminent updates. MS are in this for the long haul and some improvements won't materialise over the lifetime of the initial batch of phones.
Copy/paste will be coming soon but we just don't know other features. We can just hope. So, if you can't live without tethering it might be worth waiting until early next year to see if news emerges on a timescale.

I still have my i637 jack. I suggest you wait like me, We got to atleast see if Microsoft is gonna even mention addressing the other issues besides the ones they say they will fix in early 2011. Although im personally seeing are they gonna stay true to their words by listening to their supporters.

You have 14 days with T-Mobile to return the phone and get a new one or reverse your upgrade if you choose to. You pretty much have nothing to lose. Rather than asking everyone else what they think, the best thing to do is always to just get the phone yourself, try it out and see if you like it.
That being said, the HD2 ran an unfortunately unfriendly and antiquated operating system that was not designed for nor optimized for the HD2. Even HTC's Sense could not save it. Sad because its still a top-notch phone hardware wise. Which is why Windows Phone 7 was built from the ground up and optimized for hardware matching the HD2 and beyond. If you've seen any videos online, you should notice how dramatically smoother and seamless the whole experience is.
When people talk about about how the HD7 is just an HD2 in a new outfit, that is totally correct. It is the HD2 essentially, hardware wise. But the outfit is just as important as the hardware, and Windows Phone 7 is not Windows Mobile 6.5, not by a long shot.
Try out the phone, if it turns out that its not for you, then please take advantage of the return policy and try out a different phone. That's the only way you'll really get a real opinion.
I will be jumping ship on November 8 over to the HD7 and T-Mobile. The Evo, as awesome a hardware as it is, simply does not have the 'outfit' to match it. Windows Phone 7 provides the polish, features, and speed that I need, and I can't wait.
I'm going to get the HD7 on Nov 8th as well. I've used Android since the G1 and ave had just about every Android phone T-Mo offers (except the Behold 2). Right now I have the myTouch 4G, and while it is an awesome phone, it's not doing it for me. I really like how WP7 looks. I also have a Zune HD, and I like the software on it, and WP7 is very similar.
If you are prepared to wait for the new OS to mature and for "jailbreaks and hacks" to become available then go for it. If you want to be abe to tweak from day 1 and have every possible feature that is out there then stay with 6.5 or go for android. I have a horrible feeling these forums are going to fill up with people moaning about lack of this that or the other feature. I myself like the interface so much that I want to be part of the WP7 thing from day 1 hence I have my HD7 already and am lovin it warts an all!!

I will be jumping ship on November 8 over to the HD7 and T-Mobile. The Evo, as awesome a hardware as it is, simply does not have the 'outfit' to match it. Windows Phone 7 provides the polish, features, and speed that I need, and I can't wait.

Kind of what he said. Buy it and see. I'm getting it because I want to be part of the new revolution of Winmo. And honestly, have found myself not to concerned about what it's lacking as hell, it still the basic things you expect in a smartphone and I'm willing to give up some the apps I've used on Winmo and Android ports to the HD2. Most of them are just because I wanted to do something and not really needed. But with a browser, slingplayer coming soon, office, phone calls, text, and Slacker for streaming radio. That pretty much rounds up the stuff that I use on a regular basis (oh just need a golfgps app) and that's it. But, I'm planning on keeping my HD2, juuust in case there is something I need. My advice, jump into and see what you think and try not to think about the very minor things you'll be missing. You might actually find that you start finding more time for real life as opposed to your virtual phone life that's wasted from having billions of apps to check. I know I will and I'm looking forward to it!
That's everyone for your opinions. I am usually one to get the new "it" thing as soon as it comes out, usually the day it comes out (well only phones) But not so much when a new phone comes out, just the next biggest thing. In this case, WinMo7. I've owned 3 Win Mo phones (SDA, Dash and HD2) Android (G1) and iPhone along with all the other basics before the SDA, and I can surely say, I like WinMo the best. I do like to completely customize my phones. I found WinMo to have the best broad range to do this. I'm not one to load my phone with apps, except to customize, which is why I don't mind the almost nothing there marketplace for WinMo.
I will probably be one of the ones jumping on the bandwagon and getting the HD7 on Monday as well. I do like their return policy, but don't like their $10-$20 restocking fee that you have if you return it. I'm sure I will end up liking the HD7. For the most part I have a love/hate relationship with my HD2. I think what I hate is WinMo6.5 because after customizing it was perfect for me. I'm sure over time the developers here will come up with ways to customize the HD7. I think I can wait. Plus, I would get the "new phone" feeling with HD7, vs getting an android which seems to never change it's basics.
Also, how is everyone getting their phones?
I'm thinking about getting it at WalMart since their price is $150 with a new 2 yr contract, (have to verify if an upgrade counts)
T-Mobile's is $250 with a 2 yr contract with a $50 mail in rebate (which I always seem to forget to mail out on time!)
Do Not Buy A W7 phone
I have had an HTC HD 2 phone from when they came out and a week ago bought an HTC HD7 WHAT A MISTAKE I have put it in the bin. Any one that says it is better than (shudder to think an iphone) is not in the real world,
No File transfer using Pc You have to use Skydrive long winded.
very basic functions and its display looks s***t
Best advice is go into a phone shop and have a play but be aware that what you see is all you get!.
I am 52 years old and have been involved and used computers from being about 25, and have found windows has always been the best platform and have hated Apple for there lack of user input it has always been thats what you get like it or lump it, but I will certanly be buying an apple or android in the next 2 weeks.
So microsoft stuff it!

You write and complain like a child. So I am going out on limb and say that you are not 52 years old and you haven't handled one yet. Since the screen resolution is exactly the same as HD2 and from what I have read it has the S-LCD so its even better. You are the first that I have seen to complain about the screen especially since you are an HD2 user. I guess you have the special HD2 screen no one else has.
I also doubt if you have been in and around computer for 25 years. Your complaint about Apple leads me to believe you are not being honest. Are you complaining about your HD2? You fail to mention that. You don't like Apple and believe that MS is the best platform yet you are moving away from WM6.5 and WP7 and getting an IPHONE or ANDROID?
So in conclusion you tried out an HD7(alleged) and thought the SAME EXACT SCREEN AS YOUR HD2 was crap? The WP7 OS and the Screen was so horrible that you went into a trance like state fueled by your anger towards MS that you decided to tell MS to stuff the SOLE PLATFORM you have been using for the past 25 years? Then you just tucked it away into a BIN instead of returning the phone because you could no longer stand to touch or have it in your sight.
Ahh that makes SENSE!

I think you have this guy nailed.
Hello everyone, I have recently enlisted in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and I ship out in a few months. I have been looking at buying a e-reader for sometime now because I have recently become a big bookworm. I love to read, something I never did earlier in my life until now. From what I have heard from people in the Navy you need to have at least one of 3 things when deployed at sea. Either be a people person, love music, or love books. The aspect of having a e-reader seems great because you only get a small space in your berthing racks for personal items. Having a small device that can hold LOTS of books is great. I am also a very big android fan. I had the original grandfather of android devices the T-mobile G1 (rooted with CM 6.1) and now a T-mobile G2 (rooted with Vitourious) . So i been trying to do my research before buying one. I have a few questions that I haven't been able to find CLEAR answers for.
1. I have been finding a mixed answers on battery life. How long will it last with say moderate reading?
2. Video play back? I read that it can and cant play back avi files and such.... i believe it needs to be rooted to do so? I would love to be able to watch movies on this that I can pre-load on sd cards and bring a nice library of movies with me.
3. In-store access with rooted NC, I read that yes you can get on, and that you cant. I have 6 months before I leave and have a BN store nearby, would like to access free content before I leave.
4. Will rooting the phone take away from any of the original e-reader functions? Will i still be able to buy BN books from the device? This will be mostly a e-reader that can be used for movies, music and photo viewing.
5. Not as important just thought of it, but are there any cases for the NC that hold extra sd cards? A small pocket that can be used for this?
Basically im looking to use this device almost as a laptop replacement. I will not be able to access any wifi networks on ship with a personal laptop or device. They provide Department of Defense computers to access your DOD email and and limited internet. I could possibly get wifi access in some ports but its not gonna be common. So if I can use the device to do the things I mentioned above and maybe some games IE angry birds, and take up a minimal space in my rack. This device for the price it is I don't think i can find something better. If you know of a device that could be better, such as a ipad (hate apple) or the galaxy tab, if its worth the upgrade in price let me know. But I want to use it as a E-reader first.
Thanks for any help.
Ben
1. I have been finding a mixed answers on battery life. How long will it last with say moderate reading?
I would guestimate about 6-8 hours of reading
2. Video play back? I read that it can and cant play back avi files and such.... i believe it needs to be rooted to do so? I would love to be able to watch movies on this that I can pre-load on sd cards and bring a nice library of movies with me.
Even rooted some videos are choppy. If you format the videos into one more suited for the NC, it'll play them very well. You could do this before you leave, but doubtful you'll be able to once you ship out. In 6 months time though, a lot can happen, likely a stable Froyo that will play most videos.
3. In-store access with rooted NC, I read that yes you can get on, and that you cant. I have 6 months before I leave and have a BN store nearby, would like to access free content before I leave.
There currently is no Android market on any nook color, rooted or not. You can side-load applications with a rooted one, but until someone gets the setup wizard working or a stock android version, you likely won't have the market. The guy at B&N told me that the Android market was going to be available in a future patch, sometime early next year, but take that with a grain of salt since it's from someone in a retail store.
Also, since you've already got an android phone, you can download applications from your phone and load them onto your NC, so it's almost the entire app store with just a little more hassle of moving them over. Of course, there are plenty of apps that don't work yet, but that should change with future modding
4. Will rooting the phone take away from any of the original e-reader functions? Will i still be able to buy BN books from the device? This will be mostly a e-reader that can be used for movies, music and photo viewing.
You still have access to the B&N app post-root, but even better you've got access to the Amazon Kindle app.

No idea, might want to have a look around to see what's available. You can always glue an envelope of some kind to the inside of a case. The Micro SD cards are tiny, so you'll want to store them safely.

It's far from a laptop replacement. With "hacking" anything you are at the mercy of the device if you don't have a computer to hook it up to if something goes wrong. The iPad is going to be much more stable, as well as have more apps made for it. Of course, it's 2-3 times the price. The Galaxy Tab is going to be the same thing I think. Since you've got time to wait, you might want to see where the modding goes with the NC. If a stock Froyo build comes out for it, it'll probably be the best tablet on the market for the price, with only some missing features of the Tab (that you likely wouldn't use anyway.

First of all, thank you. I'm a former Force Recon Marine and there are very few who are willing to follow a Recon Marine into battle - Corpsman being the first in line.

When I was on float, it was eat, sleep and work out. Not much more. Depending on what boat you are on though, there are lots of opportunities if you avail yourself.

I've only had my NC for less than a week but, I can tell you that it's my favorite Android device to date. There are lots of things to keep you occupied during your down time. The NC and a small netbook (I use an eeePC running Ubuntu) take up less space than most laptops but the combination gives you all you need to tinker with the NC and Android in general.

I'm seeing 6-7 hrs and that includes wifi on, surfing, tinkering, playing games, etc. I would imagine that with the backlight turned down and reading in your rack, you can expect the same or more.

You simply have to make sure that the videos have video resolution that is compatible with the NC as well as audio that is compatible. There is a thread here on xda-devs that addresses the exact settings that have worked well for others. I've not run into any issues personally.

No. At least not the methods that are available today. Once custom ROMs roll, you'll need to make sure that you install the proprietary B&N Apks on top of the custom ROM since that proprietary SW can't be bundled into the ROMs. My currently rooted (original method) NC maintains all of the original features. Rooting it simply allowed me to unlock the capabilities of the hardware.

There are a ton of cases for the NC available at B&N. The ones I looked at had "pockets" in them as well. Do you really anticipate reading several hundred books during a 6-month deployment on float? You can get enough storage to put several thousand books on for very cheap. Why carry multiple little SD's when you can simply use one large one?

Get a netbook as well as the Nook Color. You're gonna want a keyboard (a real one) at times. You can pick up an eeePC for very close to the same price as the Nook Color. For just over $500, you now have a netbook and a tablet. Your bases are covered.

I'm looking for a tablet and I was wondering if there is anything cheap out there that's is worth having. I don't want a complete POS, but I don't want to spend $400 neither. I'm just looking for something to take to work and watch some netflix on or browse the net. Also, if it can be rooted, even better.
I was just about to start a similar thread. I am looking for feedback on different tabs since I'm trying to decide what to get.
I like the fact that the Acer A500 has a usb port into which an external drive can be connected. I was wondering if any others have that. I also like the look of the Asus Transformer, but I've read that the build quality was less-than-ideal. Weight is also a concern for me, since I have arthritis in my hands.
Thoughts?
yeah well see what kind of info we get back. I may just go with a HP touchpad and see where it takes us in terms of android.
Im thinking the same thing as you guys.
Im gonna shop around for a good second hand deal, the likely candidates so far are the touchpad, the acer already mentioned or the advent vega.
If I could find a xoom at a bargain price I'd be pretty tempted too.
yeah I found a XOOM locally for 250 they say brand new on CL. I really dont trust CL but if I see it in person, and it works.. that might seal the deal.
Id really like android on mine ASAP, and that would lean me to the XOOM more so than the TP.. But only in due time IMO for the TP.
