Has anyone tried a stylus pen on the SGT? Was thinking about getting the DAGi stylus for my tab but before I did I wanted to know if anyone had any advice to give based on past experiences.

I picked up a black Boxwave IPad 'Styra' (pen one end and stylus the other). I find it very accurate. Also tried a Pogo but found it pretty poor (too squishy and kind of fuzzy tip). If you search forvreviews youwill find heaps. All I need now is a decent handwriting recognition app. Tried several in the market and not impressed.

Get the red dot pen by HTC. That's what I recommend, anyway. It's extremely precise. Just search google for "red dot stylus htc".
Anyone knows whether there is any palm rejection supported software out there for note taking on the tab? been seeing that the hardware supports it, but i dont think there is any good software to utilize it yet..
What like how the htc flyer notes app works? That uses specilist hardware so it wont work on the tab

The screen for GT is supplied by Atmel and through web there was an interview with Atmel's product marketing Binay Bajaj saying
"There's something called "palm rejection." We support that. And unintended touches, which you can reject. We call it "grip," touching the screen from the side. We have something called "grip suppression." In spite of the grip, you can still use the device."
So I was hoping that the hardware for GT already supports it, but there is no software out in the market utilizing this feature yet.. unless I missed it. And yes, flyer's digitizer is supplied by n-trig and thats a different matter.

so the palm rejection isn't just automatic on the tab at all times? it has to be supported in specific apps?
that woudl suck if that's true. I figured it was just like that all the time.
either way we need some useful handwriting or other custom writing (jot?) style apps for the tab/android. otherwise a stylus is sort of an inconvenient gimmick, isn't it?
is it all the same type of stylus head in the market? from the after market product of stylus? i tried once but it feels of lag of motion, this an eraser head type (flat on the surface)
I got the "just mobile AluPen". Rounded eraser head type, but glides very easily. I got it for highlighting in PDFs.
Works quite ok. But not as well as my finger!
When you use it for Swype, the trace on the letters looks okay, but the recognition is way worse than with the finger. And you have to press a bit to get a good trace.
Stopped using it.
I got targus tablet stylus pen for 11€ including shipping.
It works okay, but its not as useful as I thought, finger is still working better, one has to press to hard and capacititve styluses aren't accurate enough.
Fingers are better...

Capacitive screens are rubbish at low temps, question: do styluses work with gloves on or do they need direct contact with the skin as a current path?

If you have capacitive stylus then they work with gloves you don't need direct skin contact.
Pogo stylus pen are the best for this purpose.

I've tested two capacitive styli with the HD2, see vid here:

The Pogo Sketch has a thick tip, kinda like a another finger.. The Dagi has a dot in the middle which hits correct around 80% of the times. Not perfect but if needed better than fingers!
I will definitively use the dagi when doing remote desktop work with the HD2. Until either the HTC stylus is released or Logmein/VNC apps change the way the cursor works. More like the iphone counterparts, move the desktop instead of the mouse etc. Seem more finger friendly.

I just made my own capacitive stylus
two experiments.
I took a small valve adaptor that's used to inflate a football (soccer) ball. filled the hollow part of the fat end with foil to come out just past the end of the screw on part.
then cover the end entire end with foil, and press the entire lot in really hard. Smooth the foil down (rub it on a piece of wooden laminate floor, your jeans what ever).
alternatively using a pencil with a rubber(eraser) on the end of it.
Cover with silver kitchen foil, leave enough foil up the shaft to make contact with your fingers. Smooth the foil down on the end.
Both seem to work fine, I prefer the shorter valve option.

Yep, but you can't get as detailed as with the Dagi. But the problem of the Dagi is that the HD2 sometimes registers something outside of the red dot. Which means broken lines...
I've had both the Pogo and the Dagi styluses, and found them both pretty useless to be honest.
The Pogo one stuttered quite a lot, and I found I couldn't slide the unlock on the phone with it, as it just kept letting go.
The Dagi one is better, but takes a suprising amount of pressure to work (I do have a screen protector on, but it's only made a tiny difference to sensitivity when using my fingers).
I'll probably try the HTC one when (if) it gets released. The only reason I want a stylus is for legacy apps that pretty much require one. I can handle using Aurora (for example), but it's much easier with a stylus.

hello my fellow tab geeks.
a few weeks back, i purchased the official samsung galaxy capacitive stylus but really am not very impressed with it and just wanted to see if others feel the same way.
i've tried several stylus before for my prev iPad and none of them moved very smoothly across the surface due to the requirements of a capacitive screen, etc.
anywho, from using it for a few days; it seemed to stick more to the screen than move smoothly and in turn made any fast note taking impossible. i could never duplicate the accuracy of using a pen on paper.
are all capacitive stylus basically plagued with this problem?
now i remember the advantages of resistive screens. if only someone would finally make both on their tablets.. hmmm...

I think it's one of the downsides of capacitive screens. I bought a boxwave stylus and it's got issues even though it had the best reviews. You need a lot of surface area contact to make a capacitive screen work.

I bought the BoxWave stylus too and quite like it. It does require some pressure to get enough contact to work correctly but as the end is so soft it's not a strain. Once I got used to it I prefer the stylus over using my finger for most tasks and it has the added advantage that the screen remains clean. Obviously you need to revert for fingers for pinch-zoom and any other multitouch gesture though.

I bought the same stylus with the intent of using it for a drawing app I have on the Tab. I, too, was disappointed. It takes quite a bit of pressure to get a solid line, otherwise it would skip here and there along the line. It worked ok for just moving through screens or typing, but for doing any kind of useful sketching or drawing it was pretty much useless.
Maplins do one that has a soft tip - but it's no substitute for a finger....

I also noticed that if you hold the stylus anywhere but in contact with the metal band, it doesn't track at all. Sometimes you want to hold it further back.

I got the targus stylus and it works on the iPad and galaxy s but struggles with the galaxy tab. I'm a bit disappointed. Must be a different kind of capacitive screen. Writing with it on the iPad is like writing on paper. Very smooth and quick to get used to.

Only stylus that works is stock one only works well but digs a hole in your pocker
Got any old HDD bags laying around?
If you wrap a cut off of it around the end of a pen you have a cheap stylus and it works brilliantly on my legend
It's also a very smooth plastic so I haven't had it bog down on me at all.

I ordered a Dagi stylus after seeing a demo on a Galaxy Tab that made it look smooth. There's a few different models, so I'm hoping they have catered to the slightly different capacitive screen on the Galaxy to that of other devices.
If it was a faked video I have a stylus for my iPad.

I visited my local dollar store earlier and found a cheap stylus for 2 dollars. It works well but the only thing I don't like is the rounded tip. I'm looking for more of a shape of a pen with a pointy tip. Preferably really cheap for a dollar or so from ebay or any online retailer that ships to Canada. Any ideas?

It's not a real graphics tablet (the kind photoshop users have). Capacitive screens just aren't that accurate. You have the same issue w/ the ipad screen.
If you want something w/ the accuracy of the Galaxy Note, get the Note. It uses Wacom technology which actually is accurate...

Saw that, but meh the fragile disc and the price is a turn off. I guess I'll just stick with my cheapo stylus for the time being. It does my sort of writing well enough anyway.

Coming soon, a "finer" point stylus for cap. touch screens.
The problem is the screen tech. Because of the way they work, it requires a larger point of contact. They aren't real precise for writing or drawing. This is all cap screens including iDevices.
The Note and Flyer uses a combination of screen techs and pen tech. The pen has sensors that detects pressures and communicates to the device (I guess). That or there is there an additional screen layer that has pressure sensors.
Old school resistive screens are much more accurate.

I've been on the search for a fine tipped stylus & haven't found anything that works consistently. I just use the cheap-o stylus from Amazon.

I got the Estylo in this morning's mail. I like it a lot. Tested it with Autosketch Sketchbook Pro, Fresco Pro, and Lecture Notes. It produces slightly cleaner (slightly more legible) handwriting strokes than the Kuel H12 stylus. I also notice that it both glides more smoothly, but with a very firm feel (the tip material has almost no give to it in comparison with a rubber or silicone tip.) To be fair, you still can't use a tiny, tiny point to draw with - you have to angle the tip to get more of it in contact with the surface. BUT, you can easily see where you are drawing/writing.
Now if there was a clip on it, so I could keep in in my pocket without fear of losing it, it would be ideal. BTW, it's extremely light weight (4 grams.)
So, I am a long time Galaxy Note user. Someone who has become dependent on the S Pen. I have also become dependent on a removable battery...
I use my S Pen all day practically every day for work and I work in a low signal area. The Galaxy Note was definitely the phone for me until Samsung decided to pull the plug on removable batteries.
I have been very interested in LG's new G5 (hey, it has a removable battery!) but I am having a lot of trouble finding a fine point stylus, similar to the S Pen, that will work with the G5's capacitive screen.

I have not yet tried this but have high hopes.
There is no SPen replacement. I have a Note 5. The Note Line has a special pen digitizer layer that allows the use of a fine stylus.
There are several fine point regular pens, but none really compare.
I've never used one of these but it's probably your best bet.

Personally, I got Andonit Jot Pro because I wanted to be able to write as thin as possible (when needed). Especially, at one point owning Note 10.1, I missed the S-pen experience. So I got Andonit Jot Pro based on the review for my transformer infinity, which i also tried to use on my wife's ipad 2.
Though I can tell you one thing. Capative screen stylus is nothing but a finger replacement. So accuracy is nowhere that of inductive technology e.g. Galaxy Note 10.1, Wacom Pen devices. Furthermore, there is no palm rejection i.e. as soon as your palm touches screen it recognizes the palm.
So to be honest, even cheap stylus would still do the job. if I could return my andonit stylus, I would have and just kept using my 3 for $5 stylus over $20+ Andoit Jot pro.
So, as far as the pressure sensitivity goes, the adonit joint pro does work? It's the lack of palm rejection that's bothersome?
EDIT: My bad, it's a capacitive stylus. There are pressure-sensitive styluses for Android, but I don't think they are supported in apps which makes them pretty useless.

You are absolutely right. I believe at least on iPad people tried couple different things such as using bluetooth signal, or even using ultrasound to make pressure sensitivity. As you have figured those pen are usually very expensive. Last I recall are almost close to $100. Even the pressure sensitivity works (which i am still skeptical) but even then two major issues:
1. application support - just as you said. Each app has to support it individually and not many app does that. Simply because most android device don't have the capability. So why would devs implement such.
2. Lack of accuracy/palm rejection - Without these simply your writing experience won't be a real i.e. yes you can right here and there for fun, but for practical use such as taking note, you will quickly learn that actually doing such on real paper would be faster.
Careful with the Jot Pro. I own one, and it scratched the living daylights out of my Nexus 7 and Xoom. While it's by far the most precise (since it let's you look at the precise location where you will write), it's not worth it to me if it means scratching the screen. I also refuse to use a screen protector because of how they make my fingers feel when swiping across the screen.
As a decent replacement, I now use the Boxwave Evertouch, which I bought on Amazon for about $10. It's nowhere near as precise as the Jot Pro, but it won't scratch my precious N10. I still use the Jot Pro on my Xoom and N7 since they're already scratched.

I used a Cosmonaut stylus for a year on an IPad 2 with the Notheshelf App. It was a great stylus and the app gave you what they called "wrist protection". Basically horizontal and perpendicular lines where you could set your palm without leaving marks, so you could write just with the stylus. (they don't have this app for android... i asked them)
Now that I am moving to a Nexus 10 (my first android device) I am looking for an App with this characteristics. Can anyone recommend one?

I think lectures notes has a "palm safe zone"
I'II have to monitor my screen for scratches from the Jot stylus. I found I was having to grip the stylus too hard because of the aluminum body of the stylus. Also, any dirt or oils on the screen greatly reduce the sensitively of the Jot stylus, even trapping dirt between the hard plastic stylus tip and screen. Therefore, those of you using the Jot may wish to consider keeping your screen really clean. A second idea that has really helped is getting a length of heat-shrink tubing from an electronics store and shrinking it around the barrel of the stylus. This has given me a much more comfortable grip.
However, I will have to keep an eye out for scratches. So far, so good.

I think Adonit jot very good. I use with Google Nexus 7, very good when writing and painting. Can you search in google, have so much shop sale it

Correct, & Papyrus Beta also has palm recognition. (Pressure sure there's one more app too, maybe Antipaper.)
As for the stylus, I currently have a cheap Griffin stylus and a Wacom Bamboo stylus. Between the two, Wacom's Bamboo stylus seems to be very popular and IMO it is much more accurate than the cheapo options.
I use the Bamboo pretty much everyday to take notes in class, it's a great option if your looking for an alternative to the Adonit stylus.
I'm getting the gosmart , it has the thinnest most Accurate tip and its got a spring on the front that makes it pressure sensatibe in a way

pogo connect
I have been doing some research on stylus out there and the Pogo Connect seams to be one of the best things out there. Its supposed to work through Bluetooth
anyone knows if it will work with our Nexus 10 and if there are Android apps that will support it? that would be great!
I'm beginning to see a few scratches on my screen from the Jot Pro. It looks like a single event as if a small grain of sand got caught between the stylus and screen. I may try some sort of screen protector.
Has anyone reported scratches from other styli?

Thanks for writing in. Pogo Connect is not compatible with Android tablets. We'd love to see Pogo Connect be as universal as possible, including support for Android systems. We've talked through some compatibility ideas, but we're just not sure yet if we'll be able to make it happen.

so i am thinking of getting the jotpro stylus for my nexus 10 but after reading this thread i am a bit concerned with the scratched issue some users talked about. does it come from the stylus or because of sand or something trapped between the screen and the plastic plate? i want to use the stylus indoors for notes on my university.
Hand stylus is amazing. 4mm tip gives great accuracy. Also you can get 6 replacement tips for $10.
When I say sand, I'm not referring to beach or outdoor sand. I'm referring to tiny abrasive particles, normally too small to notice. Perhaps I should have said dirt, contaminants, or some other term. The hard plastic tip of the Jot pro requires more downwards force than other styli. I don't believe the tip itself does the scratching, but hard tiny debris pressed into the glass by the Jot pro.
Has any one tried the Jot pro with a screen protector?

Anyone know of a good fine-point pen for talking notes and drawing on the nexus? I currently have the rather large conventional tablet pen but I was hoping to get a finner point pen. A anyone know of a good model? If possible please provide a link to a store brand. Thank you!

google them, first link. this form won't let me post links.
both has tips that fakes a fine point; a see through tip basically. other than that, a fine point is not possible on this type of display.

I just saw the adonit version has also a pressure sensitive version if you are looking to take serious notes or draw. but a regular fine point will only help to see where you are writing, they're all the same.

I have a stylus I got at wallgreens. It is not fine point, but it is small and acts fine point-ish. Was only 5 dollars, and works great for precision use like drawing. U can find them by the checkout.

Any chance you can provide a picture of that stylus? Snap a crappy photo with a phone camera or, the Nexus 7 perhaps?
I have a Walgreens like 2 blocks away and I've yet to see anything like that at one, but there are several others here in Las Vegas I can check on, just need to know what I'm looking for, or a brand name, product/model number, etc. If you have the original receipt for it when you bought it, the Walgreens SKU code (product number) would help too.
Here are the three pictures. The blue one is the walgreens one. The black is a normal size stylus. The head half the size at least. It not fine point but small enough to help.

Adonit is the best I've seen. However these capacitive touch screens aren't going to give you fine control. That's the downside to the technology. The Adonits have smaller contacts but won't magically give you a pressure sensitive pen such as a Galaxy Note. It has additional screen tech layers that give it that ability.
Just don't want you to be dissatisfied or have too high of hopes.

I just ordered the Kuel H10. I'll let you know how it is once it arrives if you're interested. I had another one but that was pretty bad, so I'm hoping the Kuel is an improvement.
You won't get something fine tipped like a ball point with a capacitive screen. The screen needs a large area (Relative to a fine tipped stylus) the size of a finger tip close to the screen, and takes the center of the area interacting with the screen to find the tap point.
The way the Note, Note 2, etc get a fine tipped stylus is by using additional technology to the capacitive screen.
The closest thing you can get is a stylus that has a pad the correct area, and has a pivot at the pad to provide the approximate feel of a fine tipped stylus like so:

They still have the drag of a larger stylus, but give a pretty good feel. Be prepared to spend a bit more; a jotpro is around $25.
The tips on those things are pretty fragile I hear. Have not tried them myself.
My Kuel H10 just arrived today, and so far I like it. Though it's absolutely tiny.. and I have small hands. For someone with big hands it would feel like a toothpick almost. The tip on it is pretty great though, so that's a plus.

Picked up one of these from Frys. Works reasonably well, but I notice some "skips" when drawing lines. Still overall pretty good.

I bought the BoxWave EverTouch about three weeks ago and I really like it. The main challenge with using any stylus on a tablet is not touching your palm to the screen, but after I've adjusted to it, I really enjoy using it. I primarily utilize it to take notes at school, but I've recently begun doing my calculus homework and exporting it as pdf in FreeNote. The microfiber tip has virtually no drag on the screen and while it's not as precise as the adonit jot pro, it's much more durable and I feel like it holds up quite well. Not bad for $10.
The biggest downside of using this stylus is the diameter of the tip is bigger than I want. After a bit of adjusting I can make mostly accurate marks but I'm still on the lookout for a stylus with this same capacitive microfiber tip with a smaller diameter.
Look for "Boxwave EverTouch" on amazon.

yeah I had to sell mines because of the skipping issues when drawing especially with "draw something with friends"
