I just got a DS7 today from a T-Mobile Store, it looked like the box was doubled taped. It looks new, but when i opened it up, the SIM card was already installed in the device. I called the store i bought it from, they said the Tablets, etc have them pre-installed.
Is it true? or did i just get duped and they gave me a used one
Thanks in advance.
I bought one from a tmobile store last week and they opened the box in front of me and took the sim out of the holder and put it in while I was there. So no they are not pre installed

It may not have been used by an end customer, they may have been checking it out. Otherwise they cannot sell as new.
EDIT: Or maybe that store installs the SIM cards when the devices arrive, since the SIM cards are used for the S7 (one cannot transfer a current SIM card from the phone to S7).
I got mines str8 from tmo online and my sim was already in my S7...
I got mine yesterday and the sim was already installed the dell streak 7, I thought the same thing. So I called TMO and told them that they sent me a refurb device, and that I wanted them to overnight me one or I'm going to cancel service. The new one I revived today also had the sim already installed....

So i went to another T-Mobile Store, and got it swapped out for another DS7, the SIM was not installed when he opened the box. The T-Mobile rep gave me some BS story about how when they get these from Dell they open them to install the SIMs, i called BS and had him go to the back and get a unit with only 1 set of seals.

It is too bad they don't have the same logging as a phone, where one can see the time for outgoing and incoming calls. Impossible to sell a used phone as new with that evidence!
Mine came per installed. Guess they have the info(IEMI, SIM) and stuff ready to make the transition smooth.
Both my original and replacement dell streak 7's came with the sim installed. That's not unusual for t-mobile. No reason to get a different unit if it came with the sim in it. Mine came directly from dell.
Mine, from Dell, did NOT come installed. And I have posted a question about the settings. No T-Mobile store close.
So basically my roomie was kind enough to let me use his discount to buy a note 3 since i'm not eligible for a while.
Obviously the phone is for me, even though we bought it thru his account.
So do I still need to call AT&T and activate the phone (it came with a sim card in the package)
Or i can just ignore the sim card and calling them and just use the new note 3 with my sim card, and he uses his iphone with his old sim card thats already in there.
Do you know how does the whole thing work?

If you already have your own SIM card linked to your account, just put it in the phone and you are good to go as long as the phone is an ATT model. Also the phone will only work with a MicroSIM regular sized SIMs will not fit this phone.
On ATT the phone has no bearing on your account. What you are paying for is the SIM. I bought a Lumia when my contract renewed with ATT. Could not stand it so I bought an N3 full price and slapped my card in it. The device is even updated on my account on the website as being a N3 and not a Lumia.
oh cool.
So i dont have to do anything?
ATT doesnt care that the phone was never activvated?

On ATT phones are not activated. They are ready to use out of the box. The SIM is the key. All your account data is linked to the SIM, not the phone. You can use any phone that ATT sells on your account and you don't have to buy it from ATT . I bought my N3 on Amazon at full price but I still use it on my Lumia account. The exception is if you use a smartphone on a none smartphone account, when they see it on the network they will upgrade you and charge you accordingly. You cannot use ATT with a smartphone on a standard phone account.
OK let me shed some light. If you call and give them the imel number of the new phone then its registered and if you have the insurance it will automatically be transferred to the new phone regardless where you got it. That's the benefit. I have my Lumia insurance with att and my note 3 and s4 with square trade.

After attempting to buy from 3 retail tmobile stores (who wouldn't sell me the phone without a plan) I ordered my nexus 6 via the phone. Several retail workers and customer support agents on the phone have told me I need to keep service on my phone for 45days to get the unlock code from them. Currently awaiting delivery (back ordered )
What happens if I don't wait for the unlock code And I just insert my Verizon sim?
The tmobile nexus 6 is suppousedly the same as the Unlocked GP nexus 6, so what exactly is unlocked?
I'm coming from a note 4 (my note 4 lags a lot more than everyone else and I can't take it anymore, couldn't figure out the cause)
will the nexus 6 have multi windows at all?
Also how do you use the notifications on this (I played with a 2013 moto x, is it the same?)
Sorry for all the question and thanks in advance for any help.
I just bought the phone from T-Mobile with their cheapest plan Wednesday and I'm canceling them today. From what I've been Reading I shouldn't have to pay anything for the plan. I haven't used it at all and just popped my Verizon Sim card right away.

nothing, except youll have a code that does absolutely nothing. i bought my n6, n5, and n4 via tmobile. they have never ever sim locked a nexus, never. its exactly the same n6 that you can buy at the play store.

Thank you, you pretty much saved me 45 days of phone bill payment.
Im assuming if i dont activate the tmobile sim, i can cancel/not have any charges.
I prev had the z1s with them for like a month and canceled due to their poor customer service , surprised they let me sign up again. (Then again theyre the ones who wanted me to sign up, i just wanted to buy the phone outright and use it on my unlimted data verizon line)
T-Mo Nexus 6 on VZW
OK, so I see that the T-Mo Nexus 6 works fine on VZW, however I see that all of you said you bought it outright, how about buying subsidized? Will it work if on VZW then, since the phone is getting activated, will it lock it to work only on T-Mo? Thanks for the help in advanced!

As stated above T-Mobile doesn't sim lock phones.... They also don't subsidize phones because they are the "uncarrier" so it will work if you pop the Verizon sim in assuming you have a bank sim ready to go.
As what others have said, T-Mobile doesn't lock the phones.
AT&T and Sprint are on a different story, AT&T I've heard locked their phones via carrier.
Sprint doesn't lock their phones but some people have reported buying them from Amazon have carrier locked so be careful on that.
T-Mobile will however make you stay with them for one month (I believe) before you can cancel. If you cancel, your EIP balance is due. If you pay outright, you'll still have to stick with them for a month. At least thats my understanding of it.
U.S. Cellular also sells the phone now but I'm not sure about their policy.

Wow.... I would have definitely waited a bit longer than pay that much for a phone.
Theres availability, you just need to stick around for them. Have a auto refresh script that alerts you when its available. They randomly add them in stock.

Glad I caught this thread. Few questions to get clarification:
Assuming I buy the N6 from T-Mobile (subsidized or not) - what is their cancellation policy? Someone mentioned 45 day scenario where you can cancel without penalty? Is that true?
Thanks!

They dont do contracts. Just dont activate their sim and call them up saying you want to cancel.
If youre looking for a 32g id recomend buying off motorola.
I tried to start the process of unlocking my TMOBILE S6 today - first thing I discovered is that I need to get a new ATT NANO SIM Card - the Note 4 I am using has a Micro SIM - and the S6 uses the smaller NANO SIM CARD.
When I chatted with one of the online "unlock" web sites - they said they are not able to unlock the S6 EDGE because it does not give the user a prompt to enter an unlock code after inserting the ATT Sim Card.
he did not know if this would happen (or not happen) on the regular S6.
I am going to get a nano SD card from ATT and try it today - but after what I heard happened on the S6 Edge - It is not promising - it looks like TMOBILE is trying to close the door on people buying their phones and then immediately using them on ATT or some other provider.
If anyone has any experience they can share it would be helpful - I am going to see what happens later today after I get a new NANO Sim Card from ATT.
Updating my original post -
I have learned (thru attempting to use an ATT NANO SD CARD - that the only way to unlock the TMOBILE N920T at this time is by using a special AP available from TMOBILE - and then it will only work when TMOBILE has authorized it.
Cellunlockers or any of the other web sites that offer codes to unlock your phone will not work as you never are given a chance to enter an UNLOCK CODE.
I don't know if there are any other options - maybe secret samsung codes - or a special app by one of our illustrious developers - but for the time being, if you have purchased a TMOBILE S6 (like I have) and want to use it on ATT - it is not possible.
I would love to hear from any one who has an idea on what can be done about this (if anything) short of getting TMOBILE to give you an Unlock Code.
(I beleive the current policy at TMOBILE is that they won't give an unlock code until after 3 months of service. I might be wrong on that - but I beleive that is the situation.)
Any suggestions
What if i have been using T-Mobile for a few years now and decide to buy the phone full price. Wouldnt that also unlock the phone? My wife uses T-Mobile on her iPhone 5S and i wanted to buy a S6 Edge and pop her sim card in it, wait a few minutes and request the unlock. Would that work?

T-Mobile has no idea how to unlock it and they claim that they won't until after the phone officially launches (April 10th). I have been on the phone with them for hours over this.
I'm officially UNLOCKED!
I can tell you that I have had my S6 for about 4 days and I put my prepaid sim card in it instead of the one it came with (had to create a postpaid account so that I could get this phone!). I tried to unlock with the app on the phone and it told me NO, I am not eligible to do that, but I just tried it a 3rd time about 30 mins ago and BOOM! I am permanently unlocked and can confirm that AT&T works great! The phone rebooted and it automatically froze the unlock app. LOL I un froze the app and sure enough, I am perm unlocked! Not bad for using the phone for less than a week and not calling T-Mobile even once to ask. Just wanted to give people a heads up in case u wanted to try this yourself with a pre-paid sim (if u have a prepaid account, of course). I love my $30 plan so I will be cancelling my service so that I don't have to pay for anything except for the phone itself. Good luck!
Wow! Lucky!
I tried 10 times with an AT&T sim but no luck.

Since it's associated with your account u gotta have YOUR SIM card in there in order for the app to know if you are even eligible or not. So, u are correct, u have to unlock it with a T-Mobile SIM card than after it reboots (if successful) then u can put a non T-Mobile sim in.
My question is.. S
Did your phone say unlocked before or after you put in the Att sim card. Your first post wasn't clear. Also are you rooted or no?

What he is explaining is that he had his T-Mobile SIM card in the phone, he then opened the T-Mobile unlock app and tried to unlock the phone. And it told him no. So he tried a few more times, and finally it allowed him to unlock the phone. Then AFTER the phone was unlocked he put his AT&T SIM in and it worked.
The reason behind this is for the T-Mobile unlock app to work it has to check your account to verify that you are eligible for the unlock to occur. The phone will not unlock with any SIM that is not a T-Mobile SIM because it will not be able to verify if it is or is not eligible. And since there is no chance to enter an unlock code there is no need to put your AT&T SIM in the phone until after it is already unlocked. Basically they changed everything.
To be eligible for the unlock from T-Mobile, you must have an account in good standing at least 40 days old, and the device must be paid in full. So my suggestion would be to find a friend or family member that has had T-Mobile for a while and swap their SIM into your phone and do the unlock request, afterwards swap out your AT&T SIM and you should be good to go.
Thanks for the clarity that was lacking in the original post. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who has tmobile. Oh well... Waiting ain't so bad...
Unlock code
I bought an unlock code, as everyone stated the unlock code screen doesn't come up with an ATT sim installed but if you turn the phone on with no SIM in it and the. Go to the phone screen, type #7465625*638*# it will take you to the unlock code screen. To unlock a prepaid phone, T-Mobile requires that you put at least $100 in your prepaid account if the account is newer than 1 year old. My question is, have you deposited over $100 in your account, or did you just recently open up the $30 line and you got lucky? Trying to replicate with my $30 plan I just bought

You are correct, but that is only one of their stipulations... You have to be activated for at least 40 continuous days for the phone you are trying to unlock AND your account must have had at least $100 of funds that have been put on it with the number assigned to the phone you are unlocking. With me, none of those requirements were met and my unlock still went through so I don't really know what the hell happened but it was def not policy. See, I have had the same prepaid number with the same $30 plan for over a year but I have not maintained continuous service. I jump from carrier to carrier so as long as I don't let my number get deactivated then I can keep going back to that plan but if I don't fund my account for over 90 days then my prepaid number gets recycled and I have to get a new sim card to get back on the plan I had. It may seem weird but I have been doing this 4 awhile now so I have caught on to the way T-Mobile works. I just put $30 on my account so that I could upgrade to the S6 but then I was told NO and that I had to wait til they were available at stores and that did not fly with me so I activated a postpaid account in order to get the S6 but I never put the new accounts sim card in my S6, I just immediately put the prepaid sim card from my old account in there and that's the way I got it unlocked. It's confusing but I'm trying to give you the best details I can so everyone knows EXACTLY what I did. Hope that helps...
Just bought a T-Mobile s6 today and it was unlocked when I purchased it, the guy I bought it from has been with T-Mobile for 5 years and he unlocked it right away when he got the phone. All you really need to do is find someone that has had a T-Mobile account for the said time and pop the sim in ur phone and get it unlocked. Working like a champ on ATT network.

So what is a prepaid sim? im relatively new to sim cards
So, I'm finally moving away from the note series after being tired of not have roots. I started looking at N6 which i have questions about before I buy.
My first question is can you root and unlock bootloader on current firmware. I've also read where Verizon is giving N6 user a hard time on activation or this true or can I just take my phone into verizon and get a nano sims card. If I can't I think I can always cut my current sims into a nano.
And will this phone work on Verizon i believe the US carriers are XT1103 correct.

Yes, you can root unlock and flash to your hearts content. Yes, it will work on VZ. Can't answer about sim card.
Easiest way get a vzw version I have one and its unlocked just like all the rest if your worried that way you know they will activate it if you don't get one from then they won't give you any support

I'm on Verizon & bought my N6 from Amazon months ago. Verizon gave early buyers static because they hadn't released the N6 themselves (wasn't in their inventory yet) & people were having difficulty getting a Sim, thus the cutting of cards, etc. I called the 800 #, was upfront on where I'd bought my device, & requested a Verizon Sim. No problem & it arrived via Fed-Ex. I actually cut my original Note 2 Sim card myself, installed it & NoGo! Wouldn't work - never worked -hence my hasty request for a new Sim card! They sent mine no problem. All is well! Fantastic upgrade vs a Note IMO.
