Ok, so while I was re-theming the newest market update for myself, I was finally annoyed enough with the carrier tab/channel in the android market to find a way to disable it entirely.
Simple, SIMPLE change takes care of it.
Decompile Vending.apk, and open /com/smali/android/vending/AssetBrowserActivity.smali
look for the following line:
Code:
invoke-virtual {v5}, Lcom/android/vending/model/GetCarrierInfoResponse;->isCarrierChannelEnabled()Z
a couple of lines beneath that, comment out the following two lines:
Code:
if-eqz v5, :cond_4
if-eqz v2, :cond_4
And then immediately after you've commented those out, add the following:
Code:
goto :cond_4
So the final code in my Vending.apk looks like this:
Code:
invoke-virtual {v5}, Lcom/android/vending/model/GetCarrierInfoResponse;->isCarrierChannelEnabled()Z
move-result v5
# if-eqz v5, :cond_4
# if-eqz v2, :cond_4
goto :cond_4
And voila, no Carrier tab/channel anymore!
PLEASE NOTE! This will remove the carrier tab entirely, there is no way to browse the carrier channel using this method.
Anyway, hopes this helps someone else too.
Cheers everyone, =)

If you aren't sure my best suggestion is don't worry about it.
Or editing the build.prop like I've done does the samething.
Very simple and works great. Thanks!

What is the setting for this? I tried this and it failed. Tried it again, and this time it did work. You have to remove and updates to the market before hand.
Can someone explain in more detail what this changes? Or post a "before" picture? Does T-Mo add junk to the market page? I am on iWireless which tends to stay out of the way of the phones, so maybe mine is different by default.
Thanks.

Normally we have a tab next to Games on our Market, labeled T Mobile. It just has a bunch of apps recommended by T Mobile. This mod changes it back to the My Apps tab which shows all your downloads and any updates for them.
Is anyone having issues after this mod, with downloading apps from the market? I can see updates and attempt to d/l them, but it just stays in a state of d/l'ing. Thanks.

Hi,
I get this from time to time, regardless of using a modified Vending.apk, it just seems to be tied to bad cached login data or something, since Vending.apk uses your Gtalk login for some reason.
That said, I'm using this mod personally, and I've been able to download apps fine.
You can try clearing the app data associated with both market and gtalk, then make sure you login to talk, then market, and try downloading again.
Cheers, =)

Working good on my Captivate.
One concern: How do I take off the "minus" marks on the app icons that lets us delete apps right from the home screen (the screen we get when we click on the home button).
I see this as a security risk. I have app protector pro. But then, we can just delete the app protector pro in this mode without even asking for any password or anything, and all my apps are open for everyone to use.
Could anyone please help me take off this option to quick uninstall apps from home screen.
This thread is a joke, right?

Nope. I am serious. So far I realized that unless a person knew how to mod a Captivate, he didn't know how to access protected apps. But now, even a layman can just delete the 'app protector pro' and access all the apps that are supposed to locked by it.

Bye. What launched are you using that you see this in.... and deleting an icon from your home screen does not uninstall it on any that I have used

Not the icon. Like when u press the home icon, u can see all the apps present on ur device. For user installed apps, u can see a small "minus" in a circle on the right top of app icon, just like in iphone when u go to edit mode. click on that, and it will uninstall the app.

Another possible solution is to install another launcher that dosen't have uninstall in the application tray or doesn't work at this time (my LG Optimus below) and use root explorer to remove the two launcher and reboot.

Others have already pointed this out, but what you need to do is dl and install a different launcher from Market and then uninstall the TWLauncher. Problem solved.
Just because TWLauncher is the default in Cog 2.4.1 doesn't mean that you have to use it. Get another launcher. Or you could try never letting your phone out of your sight...
I am getting tired of some of the quality apps not showing up in my Nook Market. I am using CM7.
eBay, Gowalla, Amazon, now CNN (and a few others) do not show up. I have to Bluetooth them over from my phone to get them installed (and even then it's a pain when they have an update).
Anyhow, will this ever be fixed? Can the dev's somehow fool the market into beleiving that the Nook meets all of the requirements so that all of the basic missing apps show up?
Just curious if there is ANY hope in the future on this....
I believe i see the problem. I went onto the web market, and looked at the permissions, and i think it all comes down to them requiring this:
"# Hardware controls:
take pictures and videos"
Somehow, you would have to make the nook tell the market that it can take pictures/video, which should then make it compatible. I don't know how easy this is though, so i will leave it to a dev..

There are 5 or 6 apps I use on my Droid (1) that I cannot locate in the market on my NC because of this camera permission. VERY FRUSTRATING! I'm sure the devs will create a workaround for this eventually (i hope!)...

Well, yeah it'd be nice if they could just disable the camera feature. Apps crash if you force 'em and they try to use the camera, so caveat emptor

I didnt try the CNN one yet (I tried it on my phone and it was ok, but nothing like the HC on the Xoom version) but I got Amazon on my nook with Cm7 without any problem, then loaded all my apps that I had from my phone.
I loaded it by going to Amazon.com and loggin in, then it loaded to my device pretty easy (maybe one more step, but easy).
Battery on Nightly 40 was not good, i left it at 64% last night and when got home from work it was 8%. Waiting for the recharge now and then will load #41 and see if anything is better. Sorry for the long Ramble on the amazon question.

The eBay, Amazon, and Gowalla apps are all on the amazon market, have to tryed to download from there? I am without my personal computer for a few more weeks or else I would look into the problem for you, it should be a simple code change to get it to work on CM7.

dunno if it was a fluke for me, but i just Odin'd EG22 (Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184134) and searched Netflix in the stock marketplace app. Found that it wasn't blocked from the epic anymore. Figured i'd give that a try before running the modified versions. Found the app, and installed without a problem. Loads MUCH faster too. Came from EF02.
EDIT/ maybe my marketplace has been tweaked already?... didn't read anything about that and says its stock... anyways give it a shot

yeah, the app is downloadable from the market and it does work on my Epic running SRF 1.2 atop Genocide 1.1. the overall responsiveness is a bit sluggish, and only being able to access my instant queue is really annoying - you'd think an official Netflix app could have an actual means of managing you DVD queued - but streaming video absolutely works.
thanks, tried it out and works like a charm.
For some reason Netflix still has the poor quality buttons at the top of the app. I'm not sure if its suppose to be like that, but has anyone experienced that?
its not a big deal, just curious.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
The app buttons stink. But even the website buttons look screwy sometimes on Chrome. I think it's just Netflix not keeping their tech up to snuff. Maybe that's why they are changing the rates on their plans.

Thanks much! Samsung gives us a menu option of what log we want to narrow it down to but only as a radial button to pick one. I wish they would make it a checkbox option and the ability to pick multiple logs to show at the same time. That way people could customize for what THEY want to see.

I linked to the wrong one. Its deodexed.
I am experiencing the same issue with force closes when using SMS. I am running
[Odin]Stock EH06 Deodexed with CWM 3.1.0.1/Root/Busybox 1.19/Working Browser and
[MOD]EH06/EG22/themed_8_lockscreens/StatusBar[MOD][Maddoggin][UPDATE 8/16/11] and [Hack] [EH06] [DEODEX]AIO MOD
Is there any way to REMOVE this fix? I'd rather have the SMSs in the log than have the FCs every time I hit the menu button.
And it did wipe out all of my logs when I flashed it.
I'm fully prepared to just ODIN EH06 again, but it would be nice if I didn't have to.
Of course I didn't do a backup before flashing this file.

I thought that was the one I had to use, since there is no theme installed. But I'm realizing that if I had used another one, it would have installed that theme... correct?
I then flashed the AIO mod over that. So I still look kind of stock. Except for the themed GoLauncherEX.
