[Q] Help Backup with Clockwork 2.5.1.0 - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to Nand backup my Paragon Rom in Recovery but I'm getting 2 options,
1. Backup DATA: data + dbdata + cache
2. Backup all
also which one do I have to use for recovery,
1. Restore
2. Restore all (be careful!)
also Do I need to disable lagfix before Nand backups?
Thanks a bunch.

Backup all, restore all
Do not have to disable lag fixonly restore this back up if you are on same rom

[Q] Making Complete ODIN Backup of Phone

Is there a way to create a complete backup of my phone with a custom rom, all my apps and settings, and even the way the file system is configured (ie. ext4) like in Voodoo or ULF?
Can ODIN do this or is the ClockworkMOD recovery able to do this? Since I am not sure Clockwork will backup my ext4 configured lagfix and also restore that successfully.
Hope I am not reposting...but thanks for any help anyways!

1. Install Rom Manager, and from there flash ClockworkMod Recovery.
Enter ClockworkMod recovery. (reboot in recovery, or boot while holding power + volume down button) In ClockworkMod recovery select backup/restore and then backup (you can navigate using the volume buttons and power button)
2. Pretty much the same as 1. A nandroid backup (recovery backup) backups everything. But, if you only want a backup of your apps and data you could always use Titanium Backup.
3. With My Backup you can backup your contacts etc.
4. Download the rom onto your SD card. The rom will be in zip format, no need to unpack it.
From there boot into recovery, select the options:
factory reset/wipe data (root will not be erased)
Wipe cache
Advanced --> wipe dalvik
And then select the option install zip from SD card and choose the right SD card. (internal or external)

1. How do I save my stock rom (2.3.4)?
To save your stock rom you need Rom Manager. Once you have installed Rom Manager you must "Flash ClockworkMod recovery. Once you have done that, you must swithch your phone off. Once it is off, press and hold the volume up (+) and down (-) button while holding the power button. Do this for about 10 seconds and it will boot into ClockworkMod recovery. Once in there go to "backup and restore" and then "backup" Now after that you will have a nandroid backup.
2. How do I backup all my apps and data?
To backup all your apps and data use Titanium Backup . Once you have installed Titanium Backup, go to "backup/restore" push the options key on your phone and then press"Batch". Now select "Backup all user apps/system data".
3. How do I backup my sms , contacts etc ?
Use MyPhoneExplorer Client. You need to also install the software on your computer. Once you have done that. Open it on your phone and connect your phone to your pc. Then open the software on your computer and click sync.
4. How do I put the new rom ?
Oce you have got ClockworkMod recovery installed you can flash a new rom.
Do a full wipe in recovery mode (wipe data, cache, dalvik) but you can always restore your data with titanium backup. What you also could do in case everything goes wrong (I highly doubt it) is to make a total rom backup which you would have done if you did the back up like I said in question 1. You can also press "backup rom" in Rom Manager. In my signature there is a "rom" and "kernel" which I use. You could try that if you want.
Good Luck

No, it depends on what rom you using. You would have to change the partitions back.

Yes, you need to flash a backtoext3 converter (try this) before restoring your original backup, as CM7 uses ext4 for the system-partition.
The backup includes everything you need: the boot-image including kernel (boot-partition) the firmware/OS (system-partition), user-apps, settings and data (data-partition). The only iffy part may be apps installed on the SD-card. To be absolutely sure move all apps to internal storage before backup. (This step is more than likely not needed, but it's good practice to have a complete backup and not have files dangling here and there.)
As for downloaded game-data, unless you format your sd-card (or move or delete the data in any way), the data will still be there when you come back to CM7 (if you do).
First press VOLUME DOWN and then POWER button altogether. You will enter RECOVERY MODE. On this mode, wipe all data (data, cache, dalvik, etc). There are 3 wipe data menus, take them all.
After wipe data success you should have stock rom working
Good Luck

[Q] Just flashed new ROM

Hi guys,
I just flashed a new rom -Stocklite 7.1
This is my first attempt at flashing a ROM so bare with me.
I created a Nandroid backup prior to flashing and I also copied the entire contents of the SD card over to my computer.
I am using Link2SD and an ext partion as well.
Flashed succesfully. However none of my previous apps / data show up, this was slightly unexpected. I attempted to peform a nandroid data only backup to get these by going to recovery mode then advanced data only restore.
But i got an md5 mismatch.
Basically.
I am trying to restore my apps / data and I want to keep the stocklite 7.1 ROM. NOT a full restore.
Any help?
I recommend using titanium backup for backing up your apps. But, you can probably get user apps by coppying/flashing them to where they belong.
Options:
1 go back to stock rom by restoring your stock backup, make a backup using titanium backup, flash stock lite, install titanium backup, restore your apps. To succesfully restore your stock nandroid backup use te ext4 manager app, convert system to rfs, go to recovery, restore.
2 - open your stock backup on your computer with unpacking or iso software (like 7 zip), extract your user apps (apk files), create a flashable zip to flash them to data/app, system/app as needed. You can also flash their libs and data files to data/data and dalvik-cache to data/dalvik-cache. That should restore user apps and their data to internal memory if you don't want to use titanium backup.
You lost all your data..you should have a taken app backups with Titanium Backup,Nandroid isn't enough.
MD5 mismatch is showing up because you changed the name of the backup folder ..
You can open the backup manually, and get all the data.It might or not work, that would depend oon your luck
Thanks for the posts guys!
I just wasn't thinking. I had already taken a titanium backup full backup so thats' all good!

[Q] nandroid backup and titanium backup

I have a few question regarding nandroid backup and titanium backup.
1. If I do nandroid backup of original ROM and then I flash to another ROM, what happens if I directly do restore from the backup from another ROM?
2. What is the difference between nandroid backup and titanium backup? As far as I'm concerned, titanium backup only backup the apps + data. How about nandroid backup?
3. Will nandroid backup, restore all my current states with all the apps + data?
Thanks guys. I'm a bit confuse.

1. If you are restoring from the same android build version then you can directly do restore from nandroid backup.. that will bring your phone in the state you took the backup in.
2. Nandroid backup takes a backup of everything except SD card data... all settings, call logs, messages etc etc.. if you didn't delete anything from SD card then restoring a nandroid backup will restore your phone to your earlier state.
3. Yes, it will.. though it doesn't affect SD card data, so if you delete or add something there it will be like that.
That`s mean i have to flash back to my own ROM and then do nandroid restore. After that, i can get all my previous apps + data? Am I right?

Just to be sure.
First - Do nandroid backup of current original ROM (with apps + data).
Second - Flash to other type of ROM (GB, ICS, JB) for testing.
Third - Change back to original ROM.
- 1st - Flash Back to ori ROM.
- 2nd - Do nandroid restore.
Fourth - Get back original ROM with apps and data like before (same thing as in First)

Question How to Backup Custom ROM?

I try different roms time to time on my redmi note 10 pro and using ArrowOS as my daily driver. I want to backup this ROM using TWRP and can see many partitions for backup, do i need to backup all partitions? Last time when i backed up arrowos(all partitions) and tried to restore, super partition didn't copy and ended up in bootloop after restore, so this time I want to make sure i perform right steps. Do i need to remove passwords before backup?
Can anyone, who have tried, help?
Keep the copy of ROM zip after flashing the ROM & backup all your apps using titanium backup or migrate backup or swift backup or app manager etc.
Whenever you want to restore just flash the ROM & restore the apps again with the app you used for creating backup.
Alternatively, if you don't want to setup ROM again, you can backup data partition. For restoration you'll have to flash ROM zip & restore data partition.
