Looking for a tablet

Hey guys,
I have been searching for a tablet for regular use while I am around the house that can browse the web well, use gmail, and maybe watch some movies while I am out and about. I have been looking over the forums here about nooter etc... and am under the impression that with these tools one can turn the nook color into a regular android tablet. I am just not sure if this would be the best route to go and was looking for opinions. Any input is appreciated
Edit: Battery life is a MAJOR factor to me. One of the big reasons I like the iPad is that apple always has amazing battery life for their products.

If the NC was the same size as an Ipad, it would have about the same battery life. I get about 5-6 hours of continuous use. I never turn off wifi so I don't know what it will do without it off. I've seen estimates that the ipad has a 6600 mah battery and the NC around 4000 mah. Where I see the biggest difference is in sleep time. The ipad seems to do much better while sleeping. I can not go more then 2 days without charging the Nook, even sleeping. The ipad can sleep for more then a week without a charge. I don't think the ipad checks mail or weather while asleep. Android gets a bad rap over battery life. My Evo and Incredible are running tuned kernels and roms and they both get better battery life then my 3gs ever did. Stock was horrible.
In my opinion, if you like the ipad stick with it. If you like tinkering and want to play with Android the NC is not a bad way to go. The NC as a tablet is still a little buggy. After playing around and starting over a few times, I have finally gotten mine to stop rebooting when I turn off the screen and everything in the market works. I would hold off till there are some roms have been put together. Yes the NC can do video, mail and browse the web. I still have not really found a browser I like for Android but then I never liked the Safari browser on the Ipad either but it is better then what I have seen on Android.
I have not fired up my Ipad since the semester ended in November. The only thing that kept me using the Ipad was that I had notes and textbooks in it. My unlimited data sim for the ipad has been in my netbook since Sept, much more useful for work. I'm going to craigslist my ipad very soon, the NC works well enough for me that I don't need my ipad. If only there was an iAnnotate app for Android, I would truely be happy with the NC.

Alot of people are happy with Repligo, the latest update added annotation.

I actually decided to go with that, and recieved it a few days ago. I absolutely love it, it is perfect for what I need it for. Although the battery life isn't super great, I usually am using it at home anyway.

Great!! At least we can buy extra batteries for our NC if we want or need to. I've only had mine 2-3 days but I'me pretty pelased with the battery. I am trying to remember to turn it OFF at night (and at work) versus just putting it to sleep.
I haven't added a custom kernel or the nookie froyo. I'm trying to wait for a full-on rom.

The NC definitely has a few minor bugs in it, but I think they're worth it for the price. It's literally half of the price of an iPad. To me that's worth dealing with a few minor bugs here and there. I haven't had it die on me yet, but I typically don't use it more thatn 2-3 hours at a time as I just got it the other day. Are you all seeing the 6-8 hr battery life with the cell standby service disabled or with it on? I haven't got around to disabling it on the NC yet.

It really depends on what you're looking for. I love mine, but my wife would hate it (that's why we got her a Galaxy Tab).

there is a review about the screen > they say the screen is not that good ,it has a bad display resolution not even close to galaxy tab .
i don't care about android OS 2.3 rooted is OK with me >

I really, really like mine, love the 7" size, the weak battery is the only concern I have with it. If you are getting it as a commuter tablet to watch video etc... on the way to work, probably not a good option (battery). If you want a good email, surf, e-reader, some video, apps type device it is great. I can usually last the day with moderate usage,3/4G enabled, on a single charge.
If there was a similar 7" HC cabable tablet with better battery, I would probably go with that if I was to do it again.

The screen is fine, if you really need hd movies on small screen, go for it, but for general movie watching, email, pictures, surfing, I doubt you would even notice/care.

what to expect from the battery 12 hr or less

It has a 2750mAh battery, I can squeeze 5 hours on AT&T 3G. 6 hours on WiFi w/ airplane mode. This is all w/ intermittent use. Watching a streaming movie will drop the battery down to a little over 3 hours.
In comparison, the Tab has a 4000 mAh battery. So make sure you have your charger. I like mine, it does what I need. For the price, its great at everything. Just hope someone comes out w/ a pen app to write w/ like the flyer.

I was just about to ask this question as well. The Streak is rather inexpensive compared to the Galaxy Tab and especially the G Slate, and offers performance that should be on par with the G Slate. However, I understand that the battery is rather poor, which is really my only major gripe. Has anyone had a Galaxy Tab and noticed any speed differences?

The battery is not poor, nor does the battery have anything to do with the tablet speed - I have had both and can say that the Streak is a much better deal. The Galaxy is stuck with Samsung's pathetic attempt at an interface called TouchWiz - it's full of bloatware and not terribly responsive. Nor is Samsung very reliable at updates - frankly their software sucks.

I own both the Galaxy Tab and the Streak 7, so I can comment on this with a little authority (as can docfreed). Let's take the issues one at a time:
Screen-
Admittedly, the Streak 7's screen isn't the best. The Galaxy Tab's is pretty awesome (at least as good as the iPad's, in my experience). That said, the Streak 7's screen is actually not that bad. I find that, aside from one issue, there is no difference in real world usage between the S7's screen and the Tab's. Unless you have them side by side, you wouldn't know the difference (other than the one issue I'll get to). In fact, I actually prefer the contrast ratio of the S7's screen to that of the Tab.
The one issue the Streak 7's screen has is viewing angles; well, one viewing angle. If you have the S7 held in landscape mode, the angle that would be "down" is pretty poor. This can affect "left" in portrait mode, too. I find the only time it's annoying is if the S7 is flat on a desk in front of you, but this can easily be managed by either flipping it upside down (where there is a nice viewing angle; the screen will auto rotate) or by using the media dock (if you get a Streak 7, get the media dock; it's really nice).
Performance-
Between the Streak 7 and the Galaxy Tab, there's absolutely no comparison. Streak 7 creams the Tab in everything imaginable. I don't care what the Quadrant scores are (that benchmark is really dated and not very useful); the Streak 7 positively blows the Galaxy Tab away.
Battery Life-
No contest. The Galaxy Tab wins, hands down. The Streak 7's battery is less than 3/4 the size of the Tab's, plus I think there's a problem with the performance optimisation (I'll be posting a thread on it here, soon). I personally use the S7 for my main device; that's for all computing (other than work), internet browsing, phone calls, media consumption, gaming, photos; you name it. I don't find the battery life to be an issue, but I do end up charging a lot. My wife can go all day and into the next with her Galaxy Tab on a single charge.
Internet Connexion-
This one's a toss up, in my area. T-Mobile 4G is way faster than Verizon 3G, with about the same coverage, but Verizon's connexion is more reliable. Your mileage may vary depending on where you live.
Interface-
The Streak 7 runs vanilla Android FroYo with a custom launcher (Dell Stage UI). Add any launcher (LauncherPro, ADW Launcher, Zeam, etc.), and you're on stock Android. The back end is all stock. I personally run Zeam in a 6x6 grid and find it perfect.
However, this will not appeal to all. There's a reason I got my wife a Galaxy Tab and not a Streak 7, and battery life/screen wasn't all of it. TouchWiz, as much as we Android faithful hate on it, is actually pretty nice for the average consumer. The little touches like the coloured menus and the text pointer (which Android fixes in Gingerbread/Honeycomb, but are still bo-bo on FroYo) are a real boon to many users. If you want an easy experience over upgrades and raw speed, TouchWiz is actually pretty nice.
So, which would I recommend? If you're on XDA, the Streak 7 is probably your winer. It's faster in every way, and will stay relevant in the coming months. If you'd rather all day use and a seamless experience (or if you're really into ROMs and themes, which are in short supply on the S7 but plentiful n the Tab), go with the Galaxy Tab.
Only you will know which choice is right for your needs, but I hope I helped shed some light a little on what those choices really entail.

But this will kill mobile data, right? Cell Standby is atrocious on this thing. My wife's Galaxy Tab will always have screen as the number one battery consumer, followed by an app or two (usually the Browser). On the Streak 7, it's always Cell standby at number one.

Thanks for all of you guys i made my purchase from eBay , S7 T Mobile 4g unlocked 16 gig $340 is that a good price for it .
and i do like a good ROMs like american droid from Cyanogen in my HD2 LEO , but not changing them every day like my brother .
i browse web to much with the HD2 also Gaming , i love android games more than my psp .
I do know the tigra 2 is power full cpu strongar than the Galaxy tab

Yes. Get the multi-media dock and an HDMI cable. It also makes for a nice stand and lets you charge via AC while hooked up USB. Well worth the money.

Thanks i didn't know that . I'll git it and that leather case from folio , some screen protectors > car charge > silicon cover > 32 gig card or 64 gig if it available
and i'll look for a good rooted ROMs .

One thing I actually like about the limited viewing angle is the privacy, if I am on the subway/bus, it is nice to know that it can be difficult for other people to read my screen. For most things it doesn't matter, but for some of my work email the more privacy the better.

Yes, it does definitely kill cell standby - as a matter of fact, instead of the little airplane in the notification bar (I always leave mine in "airplane mode" - it's not a phone) I now get 4 bars and an x just like on a cellphone with the data off.
And, on the "what's using the battery" I now get "Tablet Idle" and "Display" as the main things using the battery - "Cell Standby" has disappeared!

Just wondering but does the plastic exterior on the front scratch easily? I am OCD to the extent that I notice almost every flaw on my electronic devices.

is it worth buying, given the low resolution? how's the battery life?

Grabbed one after seeing the link at slickdeals, couldn't resist it for $200.
I was waiting to be able to grab a tablet of such quality and bran for a good price.

Not gonna lie, I"m incredible tempted.
However, some things are holding me back. Namely the sort of meh dev activity, the resolution, the lack of GB at least, and some other niggling things. Dunno though, 199 is amazing for a device of this quality.

Unless you wanna wait another year or get some chinese chong ching ARM questionable quality, 30 day shipping and no warranty tablet, the DS7 at this price and of such power and quality is the best option in the market right now for under $400 because it'll do what any other tablet does.
Root it, get a clean ROM from DJ_steve, OC it and it'll be just as good as any other tablet in the market right now regardless of the size of the screen. This monster runs a dual core tegra 1GHz that can go as high as 1.4ghz(reaching Xoom/Iconia levels).
I happily jumped on this deal without doubting it. Waiting to get out of class and get back to my dorm to finally get to play with it.

Anyone find any teardown for this tablet ? I want to know how easy is to replace the battery ? How long do they last ? 2 years ?
I just picked one myself just now ... Any tips on what I should do next ? Honeycomb 3.2 ?

Dell has said an official Honeycomb 3.2 is coming, unless i hear otherwise, i think i'm gonna stick with the stock for now and delete the stage UI widgets, which seem to slow down the tablet quite a bit.
we need to bring the community back to life now!!

Just install Zeam Launcher/ADW Launcher/Launcher Pro/etc. Stage UI will never even come into play; the device is vanilla FroYo with a custom launcher and a few added apks (like Swype).

Lol, i knew someone was gonna say something about that. Then again, i am describing the quality of their tablets, not the people <3

My personal advice: get it! I love this thing, and I'm on FroYo (I might upgrade to DJ's HC 3.2, but we'll see).
There have been a lot of posts on this, but I know it can be a pain to wade through the forums so I'll summarise the good and bad for this device.
The Bad
Might as well get it out of the way.
First, the battery. It sucks. This is my main device (computer, phone, camera, etc.), which puts me in a pretty good position to rate this. It's livable if you're OK with frequent charging, but if you're going to go for long stints away from a power supply and with heavy use, this is a dealbreaker. If you're normally near an outlet, this is simply an inconvenience.
Next, the screen. It's definitely not up to snuff with the likes of the Nook Color or the Galaxy Tab series, but it's really not that bad. It has one viewing angle that's pretty poor ("down," in portrait mode), but it really isn't a bother. Long and the short of it: you won't notice if you don't have it next to a Galaxy Tab (even then; my wife has a GTab 7, and I like the contrast better on the Streak7 screen).
Next, in the inimitable words of Steve Balmer, DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS! I used to have the OG Droid, which was one of the most developed for devices on the planet. The Streak 7 is one of the least. This may or may not be an issue for you.
The Good
This is a bit broader of a category, and, of course, varies by model.
First, the T-Mo version has 4G. This is incredibly nice and puts it ahead of a lot of the other guys out there.
If you're on the WiFi version, you can disable the cellular stuff and greatly increase your battery life (I do mean greatly; cell standby is the number one battery drain on this device). This isn't exactly a "pro," but it does negate a con if you're going WiFi only. You must be rooted to do this, though.
The processor. Oh, the processor! Tegra 2 is a phenominal little SoC. Don't listen to the detractors (who rely mainly on crappy benchmarking software; there are no good benchmarks for mobile devices right now- not Quadrant, not Egypt, etc.). Think of it this way: the Snapdragon may not have been the "best" of the smartphone chips in the last run of single core phones, but it was the reference hardware. Thus, almost everything ran faster on it due to being optimised for it. The same goes for the Tegra 2, which can be found in the Streak 7, Moto XOOM, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, ASUS Transformer, and on and on. All reference hardware from Google (basically, the XOOM and GTab 10.1) run Tegra 2. Everything I've seen works very smoothly and very quickly.

The Bad
Might as well get it out of the way.
First, the battery. It sucks. This is my main device (computer, phone, camera, etc.), which puts me in a pretty good position to rate this. It's livable if you're OK with frequent charging, but if you're going to go for long stints away from a power supply and with heavy use, this is a dealbreaker. If you're normally near an outlet, this is simply an inconvenience.
Next, the screen. It's definitely not up to snuff with the likes of the Nook Color or the Galaxy Tab series, but it's really not that bad. It has one viewing angle that's pretty poor ("down," in portrait mode), but it really isn't a bother. Long and the short of it: you won't notice if you don't have it next to a Galaxy Tab (even then; my wife has a GTab 7, and I like the contrast better on the Streak7 screen).
Next, in the inimitable words of Steve Balmer, DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS! I used to have the OG Droid, which was one of the most developed for devices on the planet. The Streak 7 is one of the least. This may or may not be an issue for you.
The Good
This is a bit broader of a category, and, of course, varies by model.
First, the T-Mo version has 4G. This is incredibly nice and puts it ahead of a lot of the other guys out there.
If you're on the WiFi version, you can disable the cellular stuff and greatly increase your battery life (I do mean greatly; cell standby is the number one battery drain on this device). This isn't exactly a "pro," but it does negate a con if you're going WiFi only. You must be rooted to do this, though.
The processor. Oh, the processor! Tegra 2 is a phenominal little SoC. Don't listen to the detractors (who rely mainly on crappy benchmarking software; there are no good benchmarks for mobile devices right now- not Quadrant, not Egypt, etc.). Think of it this way: the Snapdragon may not have been the "best" of the smartphone chips in the last run of single core phones, but it was the reference hardware. Thus, almost everything ran faster on it due to being optimised for it. The same goes for the Tegra 2, which can be found in the Streak 7, Moto XOOM, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, ASUS Transformer, and on and on. All reference hardware from Google (basically, the XOOM and GTab 10.1) run Tegra 2. Everything I've seen works very smoothly and very quickly.

Hm... What are we talking about in terms of battery life here? As long as it's at least 8 hours, I don't think this should be an issue.
I may try it out. It's definitely a steal @ $199. If things don't turn out well, then I'll just return it or maybe re-sell it for profit once the promotion is over.

That depends: are you going WiFi? How many hours of that is actual usage? I can get 15 hours of light use out of the 4G version; would easily be a full day out of the WiFi with phone.apk and telephony.apk disabled.
If you're talking full usage, I wouldn't expect much more than 4-5 solid hours from the WiFi version with the cell radios disabled (but WiFi on). Maybe a little more if you installed Honeycomb. Less for the 4G version; maybe 3+ hours of continued use.

I have the 4G version, but do not use the 4G. The most I get is around 3 hours with constant use over WiFi.

If you want battery life drop 500 on a different tablet. I could get through 3 hour long shows and then need to charge. Dell really should have made the battery replaceable.
Glad I just sold my 4g version for 250 before this happened (the deal)
Found myself not using the tablet much after getting a ThunderBolt. I'd much rather have a 10 inch empty shell that a phone slides into then a tablet at this point. Spent too much time trying to figure out where I was on my twitter timeline between devices. Same thing with games. They need a way to upload your save state so you can swap between devices.

i recently bought my dell streak 7 after searching the prons and the cons on the internet.
some people complain about the battery time
and some others complain about the screen.
after playing with it for some time, i don't think that the screen is that bad. the colors are pretty good, the resolution though could have been better BUT i have heard that if you manage to change the "density" of the screen its like changing resolution. i haven't tried to change it yet but i will, when i find time to do it.
now about the battery. i only use wi-fi so i have "flight mode" enabled at all times and i switch on the wifi when i need it. i have also deleted the "Stage UI" and am using Launcher Pro Plus.
The standby time is very good, i lose a little less than 1% of battery/ per hour. i went to sleep at 1am (80% battery) and i woke up at 10:30am (73% battery). 7% of battery for 9 1/2 hours
The "use" time is a bit of a problem. i have wi-fi on and i play order and chaos online. The volume bar is set at half and i get around 4 hours of playtime for the tab to run out of battery. When i surf the web i can get up to 6 hours if i don't watch videos, since sound drains the battery faster. i haven't tried to mute all sounds and play games to see if it gets any better.
i have read on another post that when you flash honeycomb on the device you get better battery time on both standby and playtime.
So you can wait for the official HC update or you can even flash DJ_Steve's 3.2
I haven't played on another tablet except ipad but i thing that DS7 its worth the 200$. i paid 400euros (galaxy tab 7 costs 320euros) to buy it since i live in Europe
i hope that my post helped you clear some things on your mind.

That sounds about right for my 4G version. I stay in airplane mode and turn on WiFi when I turn on the tablet. I get around 3 hours, maybe 3:30, before I have to recharge. For stock use, the 4G modem is always activated, and there is no way to deactivate it without rooting the device, which I don't want to do.

Streak or Acer a100?

Hey, folks!
I'm facing to a hard dilemma. I can't consider, whether i schould pick an a100 piece from Acer or Dell.
I've read a ton of topics about dell on my favorite xda, so the shortcommings of this one are for me clear:
1. Display. For me that isn't a major shortcoming, cause i'm blind, i have a -4.5 diopters and 'm currently without glasses :sad:
2. Battery. At first, i wanna mention, that i want a non-3g version, cause AFIAK rumors are saying that it sucks the battery less. I know about "removing phone.apk, connectivity.apk and stuff like that" tweek, and anybody, who had tested this, mentioned that it doesn't give a drastic result ("4 times more"- the title of that toppic says :huh:, thats a little bit naive.)
I don't wanna my unit to last 2 hours with a simple WiFi browsing.
But, one user at well-known here russian forum 4pda (i'm from Moscow) told me a riddicously unbeliveable thing. He told me, that his WiFi-only unit lasts 2 days (!!!) without switching WiFi off, with 3 hours playing Samurai 2 and reading an Ebook. Is he F<>ing kidding me?!
As for Acer, this is kinda new piece, without any deacent information and any clear future situation with community. But the one drowback of this we know.
Again, this is a stupid lack of battery! Why?!
Another question: why the Acer's unit have TWICE as small battery as Dell's Streak 7 (1530 mah vs. ca. 2800) and lasts longer(8 hours of Web-browsing)?! Or the person on 4pda has done the apk's trick and he's right?
I don't realy know.
Please, folks help me. And i'm sure for many other people this information will be usefull.

Let me share my experience with you. I have the wifi ds7 running Stockrom 2.2.2. The only thing I have the done is root it and remove the phone & telephony apk. I set my power setting to "aggressive" so that the data connection shuts down when the ds7 is in standby. I use my ds7 mainly for web browsing and I get 8-9 hours battery life. This is good enough for me because I charge it each night. I hope this help you.

You are usually browsing with WiFi, right? And how much time of thouse 8-9 hours do u browse?
So, another question, everybody knows, that Honeycomb has a eternal bar at the bottom. And Dell Streak has 800x480. Do the most games run properly on Honeystreak?

The Acer A100 is a year newer than the streak 7, its motherboard, chipset, screen, wifi adapter, will all be slightly newer, more energy efficient than the streaks.
It also comes with honeycomb 3.2, so it wont be putting any of its energy trying to ping (looking for) a mobile network. Even the wifi only version of the streak 7 does this, being android 2.2 (a phone built OS), one of the benifits mentioned of honeycomb for the streak 7 in all the 'honeycomb coming for streak 7 articles' you might read. So you won't need to worry about the phone.apk and all that anyways. (With the wifi version airplane mode would of done it anyways!)

I've been considering the move to an Acer for a while now. Theres about £50 difference in it here in the UK. These are portable touchscreens, seeing as they have the same function, the ONLY difference i see really is the screen and the battery. There is nothing else.
You say the screen resolution isn't that much to you. Not on numbers maybe, but this is nothing but a screen you touch, and will be doing for however long you use it. All have the same function, so really screen res and battery are the only difference. And trust me, you can tell, it may not sound a lot when looked at with numbers; 800×480 vs 1024x600. But that % difference on a small screen makes a huge difference.
As far as battery is concerned, the battery of the dell may have 40% more (mah) than the Acer. And I believe your friend. I can get almost 2 days out of my streak with airplane mode and the cpu underclocked with general wifi use. But despite the Acer's battery is smaller, most the components are a year newer and alot more energy efficient. So for a general use I believe they would be about the same, but the Acer's screen would look nicer the whole time. !!
At the same time, if you were deciding to play games or watch movies the whole time, the things that will push and pull from the cpu, gpu and tegra 2 chipset, you will get more time out of the streak 7 and its bigger battery. The tegra 2 setup draws as much power as it did a year ago when asked.
I've been a proud owner of the streak 7 for nearly a year now. And I cant say its a bad toy. Its a fun unit. But I don't see Dell in the tablet market. They have released 2 (or 3 if you count the streak 5). I see them now as a company who try and catch their PC and laptop market with the and cash in with the occasional tablet. And yet cannot do it aswell.
Acer, have made many and many, and are obviously putting a lot of resource all year into doing so. Android tablets and windows. They have been making tablets a lot longer than dell, and have made more, and will be doing so. Dell will use their PC/Laptop brand to sell one every now and then and cash in.
And I know when I come to upgrade a year or two from now, the Acer I have will be worth more, and I will spend that time looking at and touching a nicer touch screen!!! That can do the same. Maybe with a little less battery life when im pushing with games. And there's a guaranteed fact I will get more software upgrades and support.

Just wanted to add some info. The battery is fairly decent in the streak, I was able to watch 3 2hr movies and still had juice to browse the web for a bit (left wifi on while the movies were playing). HoneyComb (3.2) can be easily flashed to the Streak 7, and its pretty stable (just look for honeystreak, it gets updated pretty darn frequently). As far as dell releasing it with 2.2.2 and not updating it, its actually not their fault. From what I understand either google or t-mobile will not allow them to release 3.2, can't get a straight answer from them. But, Dell has had working versions of 3.2 for it for MONTHS but are unable to release it.
The A100 looks like a great tablet, but its $100+ more than the Streak7 in the states (Streak7 can be had for $200-250 while the 16GB A100 is $350+). I would much rather have the nicer screen on the A100, but it's just not worth the price difference. Also, the Streak 7 doesn't have HDMI while the A100 has micro-HDMI out.

They may be updating the WiFi models to honeycomb next week. I have the 3g model. It is good, except the battery life is not good ( max of 4 hours). The screen is 800 x 480, but I find it quite nice. Get rid of the Dell stage launcher. It is very snappy. I'm pleased with mine. Edit: the honeycomb update is supposed to help the battery drain issues.
The form factor is great, fits the hand well and is good for carrying around. It won't charge from a computer USB, but will operate while connected. It has to have the special mains charger to actually charge the battery.
Edit: some people have reported a problem with " read only" memory, but I have not had any issues.

FOUR HOURS? Wow. That sucks. My Wifi Only with wifi on I think it's around 10, with wifi off at screen off, more like 50. All assuming standby with no use etc..
I wanted to add one more thing about the USB connection, it uses this stupid proprietary, hard to plug in, potentially not reliable (IMO) dock connector for charging or USB, there's no microusb connector or such on the device. Personally this annoys me, I hate the dock connector. Maybe it's more robust than I think it is, but every night when I plug it in I wonder how many more times it's going to work.

My first one suffered nand read only (but i spend atleast 4hrs a week in adb and nvflash and fastboot trying to solve) cant send mine into dell cause i took it apart very easy 6 screws .....but being as i bought it new and got to make payments from tmous no biggie you live you learn ......my second one i paid like 150 cash for and its been great ive even tried to get it to lock the nand so i could figure out what the problem was, it seems solid as a rock
pros (1) great form factor
(2) 4g model keeps me connected to the shop when im out
(3) doesn't look as cheesy as some of the other models out there
(4) great for ICE (in car entertainment) movies,gps,streaming music over 4g
Cons (1) battery
(2) if you do any gaming or video make sure your not gonna use it for the rest of the day ....lol
(3) and finally yes there are people out there that will oooo and ahahah over your new ipad .....until you tell them its not one and then there like O....its one of those android junk tablets then isn't it

I don't use the wifi off at screen off because it requires the table to re-acquire the wifi. You are the first person to claim 10 hours of use, much less 50 hours of standby. Most people have experienced along what I claim, about 4 hours max.
Or are you saying that the device is on standby for 10 hours? That is possible.

I get 10 to 12 hrs on moderate use, mainly web & light games throughout the day. I would imagine that it might last 4-5 hours of constant use.

Yup, 4 hours is about it, and that includes keeping the screen brightness down. Mine does better on 3 G than WiFi.

I really like mine now that I got the read-only error fixed by Dell. And for $208 that is a pretty good deal. I say go for it.

I really like my Streak 7 Wifi. Bought it for $200 a couple of months ago. It does everything I want so far and with Honeycomb on the way even better.
I would definitely consider the new Amazon Kindle Fire coming out in November for $199 if I was currently in the market. I don't know how the Fire is locked down or anything yet but I would definitely find out before buying. The hardware seems to be a bit more modern in the screen.
With that said I still love my Streak and have no regret in buying it.

Reconnecting to wireless is about 5s.. By the time I unlock it and go to an app, wifi is up... Completely a non-issue. If if you use something like Green Power, it'll continue to receive email etc, and I have it leave wifi on while connected to AC.

So just to repeat it.. Standby, 10 hours with wifi on, 50 with wifi off. I've never really measured run-time with the screen on the whole time, but it generally uses 12-15%/hr in normal use, higher playing games or other heavy CPU stuff.
I've had days where I'm doing a lot with the tablet, such as a few hours programming a new thing in Tasker, playing Zenonia, browsing news etc etc.. Never have I had it dying before bed, maybe 20% at the end of the day at the worst.

As for my usage, I pretty much said exactly what i meant..
So just to repeat it.. Standby, 10 hours with wifi on, 50 with wifi off. I've never really measured run-time with the screen on the whole time, but it generally uses 12-15%/hr in normal use, higher playing games or other heavy CPU stuff.

If the 7 gets honeycomb yes, buy it - if it doesn't, do not buy.

Odd, I've done nothing special. Haven't removed any of the silly stock apps, stock ROM, using a custom kernel but it didn't change battery life (added tun.ko). I went back and forth with airplane mode, phone apk's removed, and no change in either regard and didn't see much difference there either, but I've since left it in airplane mode.

How did you remove the phone.apk? I noticed that the cell standby uses up the most battery on my Streak 7. I would like to remove that if possible... or at least prevent it from running.

I've got mine in plane mode to stop cell standby and the wifi on and off as needed. I usually get through a workday using up about 60% battery.
