I have a Samsung Galaxy S phone, specifically the mesmerize. I rooted my phone using the Superoneclick and I am not trying to unroot it by clicking the unroot button. But everytime i do, it gets to waiting for phone and then it freezes. Is there any other way to unroot, or anything i should be doing? Any input would be appreciated.

Flash any ROM and the root will go.
so if i flash a rom onto my phone, then the unroot will work? the reason i ask is my phone has been acting up so i figured i would just unroot it and wait until froyo was released from samsung.
i would go back to stock firmware. that will guarantee that everything is back to normal. But flashing to any rom will NOT get you updates from samsung. Roms are custom made and are made to stop your phone from receiving official updates from samsung. Anyone correct me if im wrong. But flashing a diffrent rom might just fix your freezing problem.
Thats what I am trying to do, is to unroot my phone in order to go back to regular firmware. The problem is that when i click the unroot button, it gets to the waiting for device and then it freezes. So i have no idea where to go from here, or if there is another easy way to unroot.

Providing you have no lag fix just leave the root app on the phone as the new rom you flash will delete it. Once you have your stock rom back on the phone the root app will be gone, then do a factory reset then it will be as good as new
I am having a similar problem I rooted with odin and now I have to send it in for a hardware warrenty issue. How do I go back to a stock phone?

Just pick up a stock rom from samfirmware.com with a pit file, and flash with odin, and you are good to return for warranty

Make sure you grab a stock rom that was designated for your phone's product code though. Some service centres may refuse warranty otherwise.

I got a Samsung Galaxy S about a week ago . Since then I decided to do the typical me thing and see what I can do with it's insides... (stupid move). I Super-One Clicked my phone to root, OCLF'd, and then almost bricked my phone with Galaxy S Tweaker (should have read the reviews).
I was almost crying when I couldn't get my phone to boot, but I jumped online at 2 a.m. and found this website and odin. Since then I have flashed my phone a ridiculous amount of times, but always encounter the same problem.
No matter what firmware I flash to it always says ROOT at SE-S604 #7. I can't actually use Super User or OCLF, it just says that it's rooted...
Am I flashing to rooted firmwares, am I doing something wrong...
Any help is appreciated.
Step by step instructions are prefered as I am a noob...
I apologise, this is in the wrong sub... could a moderator move it to Q&A if possible?
Stock firmware is never rooted. The one you see in the About Phone is just an ID.
You will still need to go through the rooting process, CF root is using odin to flash. You can try that. Select the file for youe rom model.

I can confirm that my completely untouched SGS says root in the about phone menu
since you OCLF'd your device, i believe you did not revert it back before flashing right? Your partition is messed up, thats why it wont boot...
When using Odin, use a 512pit file and repartition to move that lagfix out of there..
EDIT: Nevermind, read your post wrong (to fast) :-S

That root is under the Kernel section am i right?
Pay no attention to it, i myself have no idea why the stock kernel has the word root in it but it really does not mean anything.
So then from what I understand, my phone is not rooted, it just says that it is...
Why am I struggling with Super-One Click then? Why does it cycle?
P.S. lol at whose ever idea it was to include [email protected] on a non rooted phone.
So I was messing with the system permissions in Es file exolorer, when I accidently set everyrhing to 666. As soon as I hit back I knew I was done for. I started getting foce closes on everything. I reset the phone hoping I could factory reset and be ok; but it keeps looping back to recovery when I turn it on. Im not home/in front a computer right now....but it seems my only hope is odin with the root files. I havent been able to find a stock rom for this phone. Att sucks for locking the bootloader. I will be donating to the bounty when I get in the house.
Anyone have any suggestions or know where a stock rom is oosted?

go to root de la vega site, and download the root. there is an odin image there to restore you to stock. you are ok.
thanks
Thanks a lot. Finally home will try right now

Ok so the root de la vega seems to have been taken down since there is a new method. And I cant find the firmware for our phones,
What will happen if I try to load a tmobile firmware to the phone?
At this point I think I have a brick and might try it.

First? No.
I bricked my phone well over 10 times already since the day got it. (Damn you framework-res.apk and androidpolicy.jar )

Bricked
Well, I've done it too, but mine brick is probably worse. I updated with OTA update, then attempted to root so I tried flashing the Odin inside the Vega package, just to find out the OTA patched the "holes", now I'm stuck at the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
So I tried the One Click from the Vega package, but it doesn't do it, it fails with write protect error.
Kies don't have emergency recovery either, and won't even recognize the device.
I'm thinking I have to wait for the actual updated one click comes out to fix it.
Please be warned, DON'T try it

There are quite a few of us in that situation. There are a number of people working on it. Hopefully something will come up soon. I wish AT&T would actually release official firmware for our phone through Kies. Would make the recovery process so much faster than having to wait for people to rip MJ5 and re-package it.
i get a black screen....Help
i went ahead and rooted with kingo and deleted some stuff in the system/app folder and now after reboot i get com.google.process.gapps, dropbox, setup wizard and chaton [ unfortunately process has stop ] and it goes into a reboot loop, i can stop the reboot loop when i reroot with kingo but then all i get is a black screen with no apps, launcher, no access to any applications other than the systems settings. Pls help...

I need the Stock Firmware version G900AUCU2AND3 So that I can flash back to stock. In the thread return to stock it has the previous version G900AUCU1ANCE. I get a error when trying to odin back (SW REV CHECK FAIL : [about]Fused 2 > Binary 1). So I am not sure how its done but need someone who has it do a dump or how ever its done to get it in a way that it can be flashed either by odin or in recovery... Any help will be appreciated... Thanks
i will need this too, i have my phone on at&t next and after a year i can trade it in, but if its custom os and stuff i cant return it, so i will need this too if i want to return to stock so i can upgrade to a new phone next year.
Bump: This is needed very badly. As I imagine many people had to take that bloat ware update. If anyone that has this firm ware has a problem and needs to restore back to stock. They won't be able to use the one that's listed in on this forum as its the older one, and now that there is Root. Its very likely this will happen daily that people will need it. I don't know exactly what soft bricked my phone so it can happen to anyone. My phone was fine until a reboot. Please, please, please. I'm begging everyone that has it. I asked Samsung and they wouldn't help. Next maybe going to AT&T store and having warranty claim done. I don't really want to find the out come of that.
I need this very badly as well. I rooted my phone and then tried to alter my screen density via an app I found on Google Play. It requested root, I granted the permission and then when the phone rebooted it hung on "Samsung Galaxy S5" splash screen and will no go any further. ODIN will not allow me to flash G900AUCU1ANCE firmware since I did the OTA update. If anyone could post up their G900AUCU2AND3, I would appreciate it very much.

I estimate we will get @ least One to two of these per-day until we get the files. Since we now have Root. It may take a bit as At&t version don't seem to have much for devs. Or ones that care to really help.(I'll probably get reamed for this. Sorry for you that help and for your time) I contacted At&t they told me they could not help but I could send my phone in for warranty exchange. Its that or go to BestBuy and they can flash it back. I don't have a Bestbuy Nearby.
Guys, check that post. Shortydoggg found a temporary fix for any soft bricks. It's for extreme cases. My phone is fine (apart from some deleted stock apps) so I'll hold off until i get some more info but if you cant boot at all, his method should come in handy.

A flash of the CSC file restores the APN after flashing the AP file, or flashing it together with the AP file, but it factory resets the phone. Flashing the AP file only is mostly for those who do not want a factory reset. But, a factory reset along with flashing only the AP file will indeed wipe the APN. I found all of that out through trial and error.

There should only be two boxes checked in odin thats f. reset time and auto reboot. Also Make sure you only check and load your firmware in the ap slot in odin. Now flash.

Yea I did thank you. Did it today and thanked the poster too.
Want to start over! Need help!
So I want to do whats written out in step 4 of shorttydogs thread but I don't want to mess up or brick my phone. My goal is to start over and go back to stock with bloatware and everything that is available on stock if I were to go AT&T and buy it today. Here is a little background on my phone. My phone is rooted and I do have safestrap (and busybox). I backed up everything on my microSD card. I also have the g900AUCU2AND3 firmware on my phone. In addition, I deleted some but not all AT&T bloatware, which I want back. Lastly, for some reason the "add call button" during my calls is missing and was replaced with a "record" button I think this was because of me playing around with xposed. I deleted xposed framework as well as wanam and tried everything to get the "add call button" back but I couldn't. Thus, I just want to go back to stock to fix all these issues. I just have a few questions before I proceed just to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong.
1) If I flash the AP, CP and CSC files will I achieve 100% stock with bloatware?
2) Will this return my "add call button"?
3) Is it as simple as just using odin 3.09 and flashing the AP, CP, and CSC files?
4) I also understand that this will take me back to G900AUCU1ANCE but will I be able to do an OTA do go to G900AUCU2AND3?
5) Is there anything else I need to know to prevent my phone from bricking!
Sorry for the long post but I am fairly new to this stuff and don't want mess anything up!
I am returning my phone back to stock so I can trade it in. I found a few threads on here that have ways to unroot but some seem questionable. Can anyone point me in the right direction to unroot an official Kit Kat updated device?
Thanks
Assuming you have supersu, uninstall all of your apps that have root access (for safestrap, busybox, etc make sure to uninstall the in-app stuff first), i would reboot here but that may not be necessary...then open up supersu and choose "full unroot". Then factory reset and double check status is official ☺
If you get a custom screen after that try rerooting then full unroot with supersu again
Edit: I stand corrected - flashing NC2 with Odin is easiest
Yeah I have su. So before I do this should I restore my stock rom I have backed up via safestrap? I am currently running dynamic kat 5.0
You can also reinstall factory firmware with Odin, then factory reset.

Did you backup stock rom before you flashed the custom rom in safestrap? if yes, reflash your backup in safestrap then the steps in post #2 should work. If no, I'm really not sure how going through that unroot process with SuperSU while still on a custom rom would work out...Odin is much easier and more reliable so if there's any way you can get to a PC you might want to go that route.
Also if you're selling online you might find some people who do want to buy a rooted Note 3...I sold a phone on swappa a few months ago and there were people looking specifically for rooted phones. The 'cartoon thing' is safestrap and is exactly what you want to see when you turn on a rooted AT&T Note 3

Thanks for your feel good message...made my day. Luckily I am able to read in small doses so I was able to do whatever it was I did to get her running factory...still rooted and unlocked. When you mentioned that people on swappa might be interested in a rooted device WITH my lonely friend at startup? I felt all fuzzy. Looks like I'll need to go the long route to unroot. I have a Mac book and I can't find Odin for it
Okay so to start I followed this Tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-root-g900aucu2aoa1-4-4-4-2-3-2015-t3021120 all the way through and my phone was rooted and I was happy. One day I tried to install TWRP since this is what I used on my Galaxy s3 before this phone. It got stuck on on a boot loop. I eventually tried flashing every stock ROM which did not fix the problem because ODIN would fail when trying to flash. Eventually I tried flashing the "G900A_ND3_Stock_Kernel" supplied in the tutorial. My phone magically booted up and all my APPS and stuff was the same as I left it and it was still rooted. I decided not to mess with it anymore. This happened about a month ago.
Today, my phone had a notification saying that there was an update and I tapped remind me later. Eventually, I installed Titanium Back up to force closed the AT&T Software Update app the phone came with. Then. it automatically updated and eventually got stuck into the boot loop again. No problem, I fixed this before. What I noticed from the first time was that I had a screen that said "Secure Fail: Recovery. System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest AT&T store for help" Once I flashed the stock kernel from the tutorial I never checked to see if the recover menu was there.
So right now I have my phone working and its rooted. I installed the "Phone Info" app and it says Bootloader Version:G900AUCU2ANG3. Eventually, my phone will try to update itself again and it will fail causing it to boot loop. I am not sure on what to do. Is there a way for me to have my recovery menu back? I just want to have the option in the future to revert everything back to normal in case I sell it or feel like having the newest OS. Also it would be cool to have a recovery menu on my phone again.
I know this was long but I needed to solve this problem before it gets out of hand in the future. Also I am pretty sure others have followed the tutorial and might have had the idea to update the OS or something else and had a problem similar to mine.
Thank You Very Much.

Thank You very much I was able to install the Safe strap Recovery and am now backing it up. Hopefully my last question Is there a way to update in the future for example if I wanted to have the OTA firmwares from AT&T without root in case I were to sell the phone?
Thank you guys for the answers.

I've tried this in the past when my phone was stuck in bootloop, But it always failed since I have a different baseband or boatloader. Would you know which stock ROM I have to use because I tried many and had no luck in the past?

Wait, the thread is for Galaxy s5 Active. Will the G870AUCU1ANE4_Full_Odin.tar file work on my Galaxy s5 AT&T? Just making sure.
