Check the cyanogenmod threads. Usually, they have a link to their mirror for gapps.

Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Froyo-on-Hero action here!
So i have been searching all up and down this forums and still can't decide.
I wanted something like: DamageControl v2.09.01 But the download link is not working, ANYONE CAN HELP?
Also i wanted something that can still do a ota update with being rooted.
Something also that has the default sprint voice mail app.
what i'm looking for:
1. Stability
2. Speed and overclock
3. sprint app's and sprint original look, possibly the new slide lock thing i have seen on other roms
not much to ask, but could some people suggest stuff.
thanks.
Search is your best friend... and the Hero CDMA wiki page... do some digging.
Umm... pretty sure if you accept OTA updates from Sprint it will lose root.

Hi.
I was a WM phone user was flashing ROM's over there for a couple of years. Changed to Iphone because WM doesn't have Apps. Then I didn't like being chained down to 1 phone and miss my HTC Phones so I switched to Android So now I'm back in school learning! But it seems to be harder here with Android people aren't very easy about giving up "How" to stuff for MetroPCS for some reason?
Ok. Here are some questions I have. First I will tell you the phone is rooted and I'm on MetroPCS.
From what I've learned my MetroPCS information must be stored in the root because I just flashed aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.3 / CM7 (Gingerbread) to my phone and everything works MMS, Data. So is the information stored in Root?
I use to update Radio's all the time with WM. Do I need to update the Radio? Being on Metro PCS not sure if I have limits on what I can do or not.
Pretty much I figured out once the phone is rooted you can pretty much do anything you want I guess it's like Hard SPL for WM.
Anyone that has any tips or information towards MetroPCS would be great Not sure what all I can do.
Thanks,
Rick
I think the main reason that the how to stuff is difficult for you to find is because the vast majority of CDMA Hero users are on Sprint.
As far as radios are concerned, I've had my Hero since last April and have updated my radio once. I would assume that the Sprint radios would work for you, although I will not guarantee it. Flash them at your own peril.
Don't forget to keep a Sense nand handy on your sd card so that you can flash back and update your prl. An updated prl will solve a lot of text and data issues.
All of this should be taken with a grain of salt, as I'm not familiar with MetroPCS.

You should have made one when you rooted. Otherwise, any Sense rom will allow you to update it.

been trying to find the answer all day no luck, its simple, logic tells me what should be the answer but need confirmation.
Very simply I just need someone to confirm that cyanogens download page listing hero and heroc that common sense is right and heroc means cdma, just had to make sure here didn't want to give my luck a chance to brick my phone.
Yes Heroc is for CDMA and hero is for GSM
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA using XDA Premium App
Even if you had flashed the gsm rom all that would happen would be bootloops. Its the radio that will brick you, not roms.

I got a Hero and I'm changing the service provider from Sprint to Metro PCS, and I was wondering if I was going to still be able to upgrade my phone from Eclair to 2.2 or 2.3 because to be honest it is a bit slow and the battery does drain a bit fast. Should I have upgraded the phone's version before I got it switched over? Will it cause any problems if I try to upgrade the android version after I get it's service switched?
Just a few questions, thanks in advance for any answers you guys give me.
the carrier has nothing to do with rom speeds and how do u think cm7 is slow..
If you are talking about an official update from the carrier, then no. Sprint never issued a froyo update for the hero, let alone a gingerbread one. I doubt Metro did either. Now, if you're talking rooted and flashing an update, then yes, you can.

He never said anything about cm7. I think he means OTA updates from the carriers.

I'm getting it switched over to metro and it will work with everything, the internet, market, picture messaging, ect. If I were to switch roms will my settings for metro pcs be deleted or changed? If so, please let me know.
What is the best rom to put on my Hero for performance and battery?
If I were to switch a rom would I still have picture messaging?
Thanks for your time, serious answers only.

Serious answers only? You're in the wrong place for that, and I've found that people go out of the way just to mess with people when they start that stuff.
As far as performance and battery, you'll need to try out different roms until you find one that works well with your device.
Roms don't change anything to do with carriers. So your metro settings should be fine.
Picture messages generally work on most of the roms. You'll need to read the op to find out, usually.

Thanks for the help.
When I get my phone back later tonight I'll be upgrading it to Gingerbread most likely.
Any roms you suggest since you are using Gingerbread on an HTC Hero as well?
cm7. I love it. AospMod is ok, too, but I've had better results with cm.
