been trying to find the answer all day no luck, its simple, logic tells me what should be the answer but need confirmation.
Very simply I just need someone to confirm that cyanogens download page listing hero and heroc that common sense is right and heroc means cdma, just had to make sure here didn't want to give my luck a chance to brick my phone.
Yes Heroc is for CDMA and hero is for GSM

Even if you had flashed the gsm rom all that would happen would be bootloops. Its the radio that will brick you, not roms.

So i have been searching all up and down this forums and still can't decide.
I wanted something like: DamageControl v2.09.01 But the download link is not working, ANYONE CAN HELP?
Also i wanted something that can still do a ota update with being rooted.
Something also that has the default sprint voice mail app.
what i'm looking for:
1. Stability
2. Speed and overclock
3. sprint app's and sprint original look, possibly the new slide lock thing i have seen on other roms
not much to ask, but could some people suggest stuff.
thanks.
Search is your best friend... and the Hero CDMA wiki page... do some digging.
Umm... pretty sure if you accept OTA updates from Sprint it will lose root.

My search-fu seems to be failing me. Could I trouble anyone to find me a working Erris ROM/Radio that will play nicely with my Hero?
That will be lovely and I shall be forever in your debt
Many Thanks

Edit:
Just wanted to clarify, I have already rooted my Hero, and it is a Sprint Branded CDMA Hero
Thanks Again!

The radio will likely not do much good. Some here have done that to no avail. As for a ROM, you would have to port whatever ROM you like over there. AFAIK there haven't been any Eris ports done? Others may chime in on that.

perhaps just flashing a PRL will do the trick? Though from what I've read flashing the radio could perhaps be good too? (as what i've read indicated that Sprint and Verizon uses two different parts of the same spectra?)
Slightly confused, would like more input.
Thanks!
Here is a Verizon radio that worked on my Hero. I believe it is from the Eris.
Be advised, if you flash this radio, I accept no responsibility for anything that may happen. It did work for me, but that is no guarantee that it will work for you.

Aha! Now we're getting somewhere!
Any compatibility issues with this radio rom I should know about? Or hows about this, what droid ROM are you running on your Hero?
Scratch that, I went ahead and flashed the radio, so far so good. I think my next step is to flash a PRL on there and do something else that can not be mentioned on this forum
None the less, I think i've gotten at least one step closer..
Still open to more input!
Thanks

Hi.
I was a WM phone user was flashing ROM's over there for a couple of years. Changed to Iphone because WM doesn't have Apps. Then I didn't like being chained down to 1 phone and miss my HTC Phones so I switched to Android So now I'm back in school learning! But it seems to be harder here with Android people aren't very easy about giving up "How" to stuff for MetroPCS for some reason?
Ok. Here are some questions I have. First I will tell you the phone is rooted and I'm on MetroPCS.
From what I've learned my MetroPCS information must be stored in the root because I just flashed aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.3 / CM7 (Gingerbread) to my phone and everything works MMS, Data. So is the information stored in Root?
I use to update Radio's all the time with WM. Do I need to update the Radio? Being on Metro PCS not sure if I have limits on what I can do or not.
Pretty much I figured out once the phone is rooted you can pretty much do anything you want I guess it's like Hard SPL for WM.
Anyone that has any tips or information towards MetroPCS would be great Not sure what all I can do.
Thanks,
Rick
I think the main reason that the how to stuff is difficult for you to find is because the vast majority of CDMA Hero users are on Sprint.
As far as radios are concerned, I've had my Hero since last April and have updated my radio once. I would assume that the Sprint radios would work for you, although I will not guarantee it. Flash them at your own peril.
Don't forget to keep a Sense nand handy on your sd card so that you can flash back and update your prl. An updated prl will solve a lot of text and data issues.
All of this should be taken with a grain of salt, as I'm not familiar with MetroPCS.

Thanks I just updated me PRL using this ROM without any problems. Latest one for Metro is 2004. Where can I find a Stock Sense nand?

You should have made one when you rooted. Otherwise, any Sense rom will allow you to update it.

Hey, since I'm a newb to the forums I couldn't post my question in development section. I want to try the MIUI on my Hero but from what I read it's still in development to become a ROM for the Hero. Is that correct? Those download links that they posted (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858935), can I use the mdpi and the posted ROM to use on my Hero???
Thanks for the reply.
edit: I have cdma hero
Yes lol but its still in dev and if u have a cdma hero yes if a GSM then no I wouldn't think so and our devices r mdpi

Yea I have cdma hero. thanks. how do I put it together to get work? In otherwords how do I use the rom with the mdpi???
Haha no drakko1980 and I think a couple others r porting it to our heros miui is for high Res devices like evo desire HD nexus s ect there doing all the hard work getting that on Our mdpi hero since we r not a High Res phone all u would do is flash the .zip in recovery with gapps and whatever else but till there's a download link haha its not out
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
there is basically no chance of getting MIUI on our heros. its rather annoying because, like you and i, many MANY people want this rom. the only reasonable way of getting it is to upgrade, which i hope to do soon, JUST for that rom.
um, back to the point, we arent getting this rom ported to the hero because the rom was built for a newer processor. i dont know the difference between the heros, and say, the evos processor, but the evo is a generation/version up from the hero, therefore a better device. and the MIUI rom is built for many devices(like the evo), all with that type of processor. so to get that ported to our heros would be a huge amount of work, and is basically impossible since the MIUI source isnt open, meaning that random people cant just go in and make things work if they need to. also, people have contacted the MIUI devs, asking if it can ported to older processors, and they have said no. so we have very little chance of getting it.
Damn wtf like that's a heart breaker then what r these devs doing I remember the miui post way back n December and somewhere I thought I read that It wasn't gonna happen ya when I put miui on my bros evo I fell n love with it

[[sad face]] I'm sittin here tryin to flash the .zip file and I got a (Status 0) error
Haha don't flash the .zip the rom isn't n working order I would stick with asop cm7 till something new comes our way

Until there is a working MIUI rom, if ever, use jasonevil's Orion theme for cm7.

Hahaha ya I'm on that theme but I mean compaired to real miui it will never b the same
And anyone know why or well I haven't heard anything about 3.0 coming out way ya I know our phones lag the specs of this new crazy phones but I mean still u would think somehow it would happen I'm pretty sure a couple lower spec phones like rs have a port I know evos have a barly working port but I mean if we don't get miui ever or 3.0 idk whats left for our heros lucky I've loved all of asops work so I have always been happy with the hero but as a phone there was only so much we could and can do I guess

+1 I love his theme!
Sadly though, it is probably the closest we're going to get to MIUI w/ our phones.
I got a Hero and I'm changing the service provider from Sprint to Metro PCS, and I was wondering if I was going to still be able to upgrade my phone from Eclair to 2.2 or 2.3 because to be honest it is a bit slow and the battery does drain a bit fast. Should I have upgraded the phone's version before I got it switched over? Will it cause any problems if I try to upgrade the android version after I get it's service switched?
Just a few questions, thanks in advance for any answers you guys give me.
the carrier has nothing to do with rom speeds and how do u think cm7 is slow..
If you are talking about an official update from the carrier, then no. Sprint never issued a froyo update for the hero, let alone a gingerbread one. I doubt Metro did either. Now, if you're talking rooted and flashing an update, then yes, you can.

I'm getting it switched over to metro and it will work with everything, the internet, market, picture messaging, ect. If I were to switch roms will my settings for metro pcs be deleted or changed? If so, please let me know.
What is the best rom to put on my Hero for performance and battery?
If I were to switch a rom would I still have picture messaging?
Thanks for your time, serious answers only.

Serious answers only? You're in the wrong place for that, and I've found that people go out of the way just to mess with people when they start that stuff.
As far as performance and battery, you'll need to try out different roms until you find one that works well with your device.
Roms don't change anything to do with carriers. So your metro settings should be fine.
Picture messages generally work on most of the roms. You'll need to read the op to find out, usually.

When I get my phone back later tonight I'll be upgrading it to Gingerbread most likely.
Any roms you suggest since you are using Gingerbread on an HTC Hero as well?
cm7. I love it. AospMod is ok, too, but I've had better results with cm.
