My G1 was having problems getting sound from the back speaker or the front (for hearing people on the other line). It turns out that the problem with the back speaker was my fault for something I did wrong while I was replacing the housing. But I still don't have sound for making and receiving calls. Now I can only hear the person I'm calling by using my earphones with an adapter I got today. It was working fine before I changed the housing, but I really don't know what I could've done wrong. Any ideas?

Bit worried by here.
My X1 is about 2 months old, and the speaker seems to have died.
The phone speaker works so I can talk to people etc. But the phone won't make any noise through the main speaker. So when I get a phone call, text, alarm, put someone on speakerphone etc: silence. Checked the settings and they are fine. Same happens with MP3 files. Yet if I put headphones in, I can hear sound through them fine. The phone doesn't think its in headphone mode either.
Tried flashing a couple of ROMS (went back to official too) and no luck.
Sounds to me like its a hardware issue. I'm hoping not though, as mobiles.co.uk doesn't seem to have the best reputation for customer service, and god knows what I would get as a replacement (since the X1 is now discontinued by the looks of it).
Any ideas?
Anyone have any idea?
I just got my Razr I (2 weeks) and just started today, when i'm talking in a call all the sound from the earpiece just sounds like static or crackling I almost don't understand what people are saying but if I put to loudspeaker the sound is normal, any Idea what that could be?
...had the same

Hi hportas,
I had the same with my first device.
When I first started to do a call I heard that noise.
I could even hear something when I shook it, like something is loose.
I suspected that the earpiece speaker was not mounted inside correctly, or something was loose and jumping around on the earpiece.
I went to the providers shop, showed the problem, and they directly replaced it with a new phone.
You might do the same.
It's most probably a hardware issue.
Good luck,
Matt
Hi All,
I have recently purchased this phone and am very pleased with it.
The only issue I have is that in calls when the volume is turned all the way up the earpiece buzzes slightly.
Does anyone else have this issue?
thanks.
Nope, but from what you describe it sounds to me like there's contamination in the earpiece speaker, when the speakers membrane vibrates high enough, the contamination vibrates along and that could be the buzzing sound you hear... unless it's a different kind of buzzing... like continuous buzzing, is it?
The buzzing only occurs when the volume is turned up loud. It is as as if the speaker is loose and is vibrating inside the housing. Also occasionally when i make or answer a call the speaker doesn't work and there is no sound from the other caller.
I plan to return it to the store I bought it and try and get a replacement as surely this is faulty hardware?
It surely isn't a software issue, and unless you have a very poor signal while in call, there should be no reason to have a crappy (or absent) caller sound, other than the possibility I mentioned below, which sounds very likely... Hope they can fix or replace it for you
I contacted both motorola and Three UK (whom I purchased it from) and they both said it was not normal. I returned it to a Three store and got it replaced. The new one has no buzzing so i think its all sorted.
So i have had the replacement for nearly 2 weeks now and the issue has started again. there is a buzzing when in call. it varies with the pitch of the other callers voice but it sounds like there's a bee stuck in the earpiece or the speaker itself is loose and is vibrating.
Im not rough with the phone at all and most of the time it sits on my desk at work.
apparently there is a similar issue with the RAZR M in the U.S
surely I cant be unlucky enough to be the only one in the UK to have this issue and to have it twice....
Hey folks,
I had the problem with the stock ROM and now I have the similar problem with jackeagels 5.5.1 (SM-G800F).
My microphone works sometimes and sometimes doesn't. People I want to call can't hear me. Eventually after a few calls they do. This is a state I don't want to stay in so does one has any idea what the problem could be? A while ago I pulled some dust out of the mic hole (with a needle) but that doesn't seem to be the problem here
Mines always been dust in the hole. Get compressed air can and blast it. Very annoying.
Hey Guys!
I have a similar problem but only when I use the internal mic, the problem does not occur when I use my headset.
Sometimes, the people I'm calling say that they can hear me very quietly.
Mostly, they say that they hear a constant noise or sound like a "bom bom bom" which is in the background. I can't hear this sound myself and as I said it does not occur when the headset is plugged in.
Any help is appreciated!
Regards, Jens
What phone model? What OS?
The main mic is at the bottom, near USB port. Recording a voice note without earphone, of course, works? The mic hole is dirt or blocked somehow?

Thanks for your reply.
It is a G800F with CyanogenMod 13.
I tested the issue after my initial post with the voice recorder in detail.
So the sound is a kind of buzzing like in the early days of mobile phones when you put your phone near a radio and you get an incoming call.
When I record with the voice recorder, then I hear the buzzing. It is stronger when I say something and quiter when I record silence. Then I also made the same test with my headset, and, unfortunately the buzzing also occured. The intensity was bit lower I think but the sound was there.
Unfortunately, I never tested it with the stock rom. Could this problem be related to a software problem? I'm not sure if I backup my CM and install a stock rom for testing...
Thx!
Yeah, the best way to mak sure it's not software is backup and going back to stock. If it still doesn't work then you have a hardware issue almost certainly...
I broke the screen completely 2 months ago. It was working fine before that. The phone was disconnected from the battery for nearly the entire 2 months. I put the screen on today and it worked like a charm. Well , sort of.
During calls , whether that is phone calls or skype calls or w/e , it acts weird. My problem is they can hear me fine but I can't hear them without speaker enabled or headphones/headset. It's almost as if it thinks it has headphones (with no mic) plugged in. It plays music fine on all loudness levels, the dial pad tones and the ringtone all work fine. It only has issues during calls.
So far I've tried disassembling and reassembling the phone , in case it wasn't sitting on the contacts right. Then I tried inserting headphones and a headset mid call and removing it to make it snap out of it , still no change. I tried clearing the phone app data (that was before I knew it happens on skype as well). Lastly I did the system update that was available for it. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
The earpiece speaker that you hold to your face is separate from the speakerphone/audio/ringer/notifications speaker.
It sounds like your earpiece speaker or associated wiring has become disconnected or damaged.

I didn't know the earpiece was separate. Turns out , because I thought it was all 1 thing , I didn't notice it was glued on the old screen and didn't remove it. Thank you.
