PRL, Profile, and Radio update needed? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What are these and do these need to be updated. Running aosp 9.9.2

Public roaming list is the prl, and profile is to update the account I think on your phone. Both will need a 2.1 sense base ROM to do. It's good for fixing tower issues and message issues on your phone.

I have been in areas that had very poor signal strength (could not make a call or use data), after updating the PRL, signal strength improved enough for calls and data.
I updated my PRL a couple days ago, currently 60675.
I keep a backup of "Fresh Hero" on the sd-card. I restore to it, update profile and PRL, then restore back to cm6.1

This. Most people will recommend this method, only takes a few minutes and works like a charm.

PRL 60667

So I decided to check for a prl update and it updated my prl from 60665 to 60667. My friend did a prl update on his Hero but his is still at 60665. Did anyone else get this new prl? ;o
Edit: I'm getting better reception now since the new prl.
Just updated mine and got the same number as you.

Located in PA and yes just updated from 60665 to 60667, seems to have improved my signal at the house. Will have to test it out in known weak area's to see if it is any better
Prl update and still on 60665
Shucks, I guess I'm not as cool as you two XD
667 here............
Only one of five whose still on 665
Shhhhh-blah.
Pshh It's good enough for me
Once again this prl not only makes my radio pull more but it seems to affect battery life. I guess i have to roll back now.
its made my signal stronger and battery life last longer... normally at my house im between -98 - -100dBm now im anywhere between -90 - -101dBm lol... so battery's lasted me somewhat a tiny bit longer... I took it off the charger at 1pm, it's now 5pm and i have 71% left
To everyone havinf issues getting 60667:
Sometimes you have to tell it to update more than once (It's taken me up to five tries before). Update your profile, too. I don't know why it helps, but it seems to. I always do this:
Update profile ->
Update PRL->
Repeat until I get the update.

Hm. I'm on 60664..
Edit:
I'm just lazy because I'd have to do a nandroid backup of Darch.. then install fresh. I've had so much problems with soft reboots when I do a nandroid backup of Darch.

With the unholy father ofcourse. O:
I was at 66, first try...no result. Updated profile, then PRL, and am now at 67
Haha... Listen - I used to work for Sprint on the network. PRL = Preferred Roaming Lists and is in a nutshell an updated list of towers in your immediate area along with some other information such as which neighboring towers your call can hand off to and under what circumstances (power levels, traffic congestion levels, etc.).
You're not necessarily going to automatically see some REALLY GREAT coverage improvement just by updating this. The reason some of you will and some of you won't is pretty simple: Geographical location. Maybe your neighborhood got a new tower (on Sprint's profit margins [well, now Ericsson actually since THEY maintain the network] there aren't very many new towers going up in a hurry), or maybe the RF Engineer for your area identified a problem or an expanded coverage need and tried to tweak the BTS (cell tower) parameters to improve coverage in that particular area. When the RF Engineer makes changes to parameters they are uploaded to a central location where when your phone either resets or is updated (PRL update) it gets the new PRL sent to it.
If your area had nothing changed... expect to see nothing different. )
If your neighbor just got a new monopole erected in his backyard and he's leasing it to Ericsson for $4k+ /mo. and beaming out airwaves, well then you can expect to notice a HUGE difference.
In the end, it's never a bad idea to do a PRL update manually once in awhile anyhow - especially if you're travelling out of your normal area. Doing so will get you optimal coverage for the area you're currently in. If you ever have signal issues - try the PRL update just for good measure, but don't hold your breath.
Careful with this one. A guy on PPC said he lost his evdo when he updated. Not sure about the credibility but thought Id put it out there.
This happens sometimes briefly when you refresh the PRL list (loss of EVDO), particularly if it's on a busy cell tower. If it happens, rebooting your phone brings it back right away (heck you can even turn "Mobile" off & back on again and it should bring it back). If not, then move to another location where you'll be on a different tower.

FRF85B radio breaks AT&T 3G?

Well I don't know what to make of this. I went back to a stock recovery image. Manually downloaded the a EBF54B images zip, fastboot flashed all the images, then manually applied the FRF85B update...
Well my 3G (in Salt Lake) is all screwed up, 3G icon appears, but can't get any damn data. Browser not working, martket doesn't work, can't sync.
I was originally running a rooted version of FRF85B that someone had provided and was having major issues with the Froyo radio as well yesterday.
Anyone else on AT&T hating life? 2G seems to work just fine.
EBF54B seems to sign in and work fine too.
I should mention this seems to be partially intermittent. A page will occasionally start to load and then stop and die, a speedtest (speedtest.net app) will start and then just time out... and then report 0.

Make sure you download the universal update -- There are two builds, if I recall properly -- FRF85 and FRF85B -- FRF85B is for TMO and straight FRF85 is for ATT

Nope, that's wrong. FRF85B is for all Nexus one phones.
OP, why don't you try dialing *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer and checking to make sure your phone settings are "WCDMA preferred"?

Well this didn't improve anything. Maybe there is some network issue here. Thing that worried me is that I asked an AT&T friend to check their data and theirs worked.
Damn.
Well I'll have to try at home and see if I'm not just experiencing some localized data issue.
On a side not, that so called universal update you linked me, well it says FRF85B in my phone info so I don't see what the difference is.
I think my phone is busted. No change or improvement based on location. Data is just DAO. Says it's connected, has full signal, but mostly just times out, or doesn't do anything at all.

I did this, it was set to wideband preferred.
For a luagh, I tried putting the EPE54B radio on it (left FRF85B on it), and it's still messed up.
It will cut in an out during a speedtest (still with full bars) and most of the time just time out and puke.
Browser is also highly intermittent. Usually data stops flowing before I can get more than web page to load.
Any more ideas?
Changing the radio didn't help.
Using default APN settings...
Do you have any lock screen apps installed?

Do you use SwitchPro Widget?
I was on FRF72, and went to FRF85B, I thought everything was ok till I went out earlier today, I got NO data at all, no edge or 3g, icons wouldn't show up.
Tried 2G only, didn't work, also checked that WCDMA PREFERRED was selected. Nothing.
Did a nandroid back to FRF72 and all was fine.
So I nandroid back again to FRF85B, WIPED, and redid my phone, and 3G works great.

SwitchPro had me thinking my phone was dead yesterday after an update killed everyone's 3g.
This is issue is on a stock FRF85B. No apps other than default, and my restored bookmarks.
Same problem. 100% stock no root or unlock. 3G icon shows up and down activity but pages wont always load and browser and apps that use internet constantly lag. On WiFi the issue isn't there.

i have been having same problem my radio is 4.06.00.12_7 (if needed) cant seem to get any download speed when useing 3g. edge works just fine. could use some help cause i rely on data.
My problem seems better today, but I am still experiencing severe intermittent data.
Full signal, 3G... it's almost like the data connection just goes to sleep and won't wake up again.
If you refresh the web page a few times, after a few minutes it finally comes back, but then all of a sudden, about 30 second to a minute into loading a page, it just stops...
The problem is in Maps and Market to... it starts to load... stops... or sometimes won't start at all, like maps won't start loading tiles.
Very frustrating.

My 3 week old stock unrooted N1 seems to have lost 3G as well after the Froyo FRF85B update last night.
No signal problem as I live right next to a tower which provides me with a very strong signal and 3G always worked solid with Eclair. Pulled out the sim and placed it in my Nokia E71 a couple of times today to check the network and I have plenty of 3G data speed so I don't think it's an ATT issue.
If I click on 'use 2G only' in the settings, Edge seems to be working fine. Just no 3G. I could see from the data "stats" app that a few kb/s must have transferred through 3G in the past 24 hours but I'm not sure as it's useless for anything else that requires data.
I've spent the last 8 hours messing with my phone and googling a fix to no avail. I found this thread to see that someone else has this unfortunate problem as well, sigh. I hope there's a fix out there somewhere.
To say I'm been gutted is an understatement

[Q] Problem with stock hero - most recent update

My wife's hero just did an update recently (I guess from HTC) and after the update she now has issues with internet connectivity from cell towers. If the phone is left alone for a while, it just won't work without switching the mobile internet off and back on. Her phone is running stock 2.1.
Anyone else having this issue or know of any solutions?
It may have been a radio update. That may of messed up your signal. Look on the themes and apps forum on here for the radio discussion and you will find a list of radios you can download to get better signal. However I don't know if you can install them not being rooted.

Hmm, wouldn't a radio issue mean the phone would show no bars (complete loss of signal). Because that doesn't happen. It's more like the mobile network is turned off via the settings menu except the "EV" indicating EVDO is there.
Try a factory reset but only after you back up all your important data might help but I would advise to read on the effects of doing one first to see if its a step your willing to take well hope it helps good luck

[Q] 'Lazy' Hero

Hey everyone,
I have a rooted CDMA Hero running Cyanogenmod 6.1.0
It is very lazy about reconnecting to twitter/exchange e-mail/gmail after I lose signal for any reason.
Unfortunately, I work in a old armory building where I lose signal every day. When I leave work, I get a good signal and reboot my phone. This works sometimes but not a lot. I have the most problem with my Exchange account resyncing.
If I keep rebooting and trying to manually resync, I eventially get everything running again.
I am using nandroid backup and have a stock ROM I flash to when I need to do updates.
I am running the newest PRL and have updated my data profile. My data is never turned off.
Anyone have any good tips for (and no, getting a new job [impossible in my area], and getting a new phone [i'm broke] are not good tips.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
That's a great question. Have you tried any of the nodded prl's here?
I haven't tried any of the modded PRLs.....I might try one this weekend.
I like my Hero with CM6, but I may just have to stop eating for awhile and buy an Evo.
You should definitely try a modded prl. I'm using one right now, and at my house where I normally have no sprint 3g coverage, I have 2 bars. Sprint's coverage map says I have complete 3g coverage in my area. Yeah... right. Lol

Droid 4 and CM10.2 data issue

Is anyone else that's running CM10.2 on Droid 4 having data connection issues? Have you fixed them? If so, how? Does the code need to bake a while longer before data starts working?
I'm running CM 10.22010831-NIGHTLY-maserati
WIFI is working, but I can't get data to work otherwise. I did a factory reset and started fresh. I've tried flashing the ROM and gapps package multiple times. I wiped cache and Dalvik. I tried repairing permissions.
Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Marty

Tried that and still no love.
I think i need to update my baseband radio, but I can't find a more recent baseband version for the Droid 4.
I'm currently using CDMA_N_05.11.01P LTEDC_U_09.11.00.
Anyone have a link for a newer version or any idea how to get one?
Thanks,

Do u have the issue on stock rom slot? If so then take it back to stock with the latest utility floating around the forum. Check for system updates if there is one dl and install to make sure u have latest radio if problem persist then it's a Good possibility it's A coverage issue or hardware related problem..

Ok, here's where I'm at now.
I updated my stock rom. baseband is now at 5.25.00. Still won't work on CM10.2.
3g will work on my stock ROM, but not on CM.
I've screwed with the mobile network settings and I can't get any difference in results.
LTE works great with CM10.2, but as soon as I'm in 3g territory, I'm dead in the water. I can receive and place voice calls and I get text messages through the messaging app, but anything that requires an actual data connection, like google voice or the browser, it won't work.
Help!?
updated PRL, still no love.
In some versions i needed to add APN manually, then it would work. In earlier version i had the same problem that 3g would not work. Also problem with reception bars - it would always show like 1 bar or smth like this but would work just fine.

Set adrift without data.
Day 10: I've run out of water. The sea gulls... they mock me... with their wings... and beaks... and of course their raucous calls. They are scheming against me. My only friend is the lone shark that circles me constantly. He's attentive like that. A bit forward though. Keeps trying to kiss me. I tell him "NO KISSES FOR YOU! Not until the second date."
Also, still no data.

First off, thanks for the chuckle
Secondly, you're getting no data at all? Are you on Verizon? If so, do you have LTE in your area? My personal experience has been LTE data is working fine but 3G has been REAL spotty. I did see dhacker on twitter post a new razr build with some 3G tweaks he was testing. So that is being worked on and should filter down to us when it does get figured out.

3G was working fine on 10.1, but is nonexistent on 10.2. It actually acts like it wants to connect to a roaming tower if I switch it to GSM, but it can only see it and won't pass traffic.
I could just go back to 10.1 or run stock, but my pigheadedness, that's a word now, won't allow it.
On the brighter side, I am learning a great deal more about my phone that I had previously known.
The problem seemed to rectify itself around the nightly build on 9-15 or 9-16.
I know I'm a bit late, but I always do the * # * # 4636 # * # * in dialer and I turn off the radio, set the radio to cdma/lte and turn it back on, usually it isn't letting all those other antennas run and it seems to pick 4G LTE faster in my experience.
I think it's a CM10.2 issue...
Hi, my friend with a Galaxy S3 is having the exact same data retention issues we are having on our Droid 4's, which makes me think this is a bug in CM10.2 on various devices more than an issue with our phones. I can get LTE data when I have service, but find that once I loose service, even for a moment, the phone then never re-connects to LTE again and just sits there with white bars instead. Toggling data or airplane mode seems to usually trick it into reconnecting to LTE, but it is becoming annoying to have to constantly check and toggle around to get data back. I've tried every nightly and the M1 and have found the issue remains through the 11/19 build. I've installed the ROM into slot1, I'm not sure if overwriting the stock ROM and using the stock slot with CM10.2 helps matters at all, has anyone had any experience with using CM10.2 in the stock slot instead of Sot 1?
