[Q] What can I do with my Diamond? - Touch Diamond CDMA

I have two HTC Diamonds CDMA that I no longer use. I would like to put Linux on them and do something useful or cool. Do you guys have any suggestions of what I could use my old phones for?

I'm gonna try to use one for a remote control or mouse on my PC using Bluetooth. Let me know what you end up doing with it and I will do the same.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

I have not decided yet. I have been busy writing apps for WP7. I also thought about using it as a remote or some kind of touch pad for the PC. They probably will sit in my closet then ten years later I will dig them out and laugh.

I need to find a rom with the bare bones no sense just to install some good apps for my computer. I gave the touch diamond to my sister when I upgraded to my evo. She just bought the evo shift so I'm getting it back from her.
Have you got a chance to check out Touchxperience? I haven't read up on it since I switched to android...
http://www.touchxperience.com/

TouchExperience looks awesome and I will definitely like to play around with it once it comes out.

Ok.. this is my setup... running mightyrom 6 from http://www.mightyrom.com and installed gremote from their website. http://www.gbmsoftware.com/
I found a windows mobile version under the download section.(free) I couldn't get the phone to active sync with my PC so I downloaded the app(gremote) to my PC and downloaded the cab(gremote) to my phone.
I go to settings on my diamond and the the Home section-> Items and unchecked everything. Then I took the gmote app and put it in the windows/startup folder. This way when I turn on the phone the remote app starts on its own.
Its really not that hard to setup. Im curious to hear someone else try it..
Its awesome.. I can now use the phone to control the mouse pointer on my 32 inch flat screen. It also functions as a keyboard too.
The app uses wifi to connect so make sure your wifi is turned on on the phone..
My only source of internet at the moment is tethering my evo4g to PC using wireless tether and its amazing all my devices are now linked..

Cool and thanks for the feedback. I am still busy writing apps for WP7. Today I got a great geeky idea but I like it. I am going to set up the phone to provide useful information like weather or something and thought about mounting it on a wall or putting somewhere else. Done right it will be seamless and always their to provide info.
Hopefully you do not read about me in the news. Mans house burns down because he had a phone embedded in the wall and the battery exploded.

Q What can I do with my Diamond
ArmyScout can you get in touch with this guys or anyone here to shed some light on a few things for us?
And did Peter pass? If so when and how? Or are you just setting this for him as Head of the Pathfinders fo him? more info, more info.

"Internet Share" I miss you!

I updated to Faria's AKU 3.2 and loved it........I do mean loved it! Then I started missing the calls and voicemails. I pressed on and reflashed everything............started missing calls again. I had so fell in love with the rom and the internet share. I finally with much regret had to go back to the 2.3. I miss the "Internet Share" feature that was on the 3.2. I am have to use my phone on my laptop quiet a good bit and you can understand how depressing this has been. I sure wish we had a working 3.2 or 2.3 with internet sharing. I know Faria's coming out with something.....praying and hoping in Cingular land.
yea that was a super cool feature.
Tomcat,
The 2.3/2.6 Roms have the same program. It is called something different in those ROMS, but still allows you to connect your phone to your PDA. The only difference between the two is that the 2.3/2.6 ROMS allow USB or IR connections while the 3.x+ roms add Bluetooth as an option.

now that i know what causes the phone to fail [a specific file] i have made some changes to aku3 roms, but i got no time to release yet.
The program is called "Modem Link" I just build a new media center pc and I didn't have any way of connecting it to the net so I was using that and it worked like a charm. I connected it through the USB, used this driver http://www.pdagold.com/files/articles/en/0000000269_HCxN12752.zip
Oh and Faria glad to hear your on top of the missed call issue, that and those cool looking crossbow icons are 2 things I'm really looking forward to, Godspeed
It's just not the same
Yes, I used the modem link before going to faria 3.2 and I have gone back to it now, but the two are not even in the same ballpark. With the "internet share" all I had to do was simply plug in my phone and bam! With the "modem link", I have to make sure my phone is now hooked to the internet (I have direct push activated). if I don't do this, it might take longer for the "link" to happen. I then have to dial in with the modem.....blah...blah....blah! As stated once you haave experienced the "internet share".................WOW!
True enough, it's a world of difference, I wonder how hard it would be to port internet share to AKU 2.3? actually scratch that, that's time better spent working on getting 3.2 working perfectly.
Modem Link and Internet Sharing both have their advantages and disadvantages. Please read the AKU3 Networking Bible at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282780 - in there, I'ce explained EVERYTHING about all these issues. (And please DO follow my articles... I post them all to the General forum on purpose - so that they are read and people profit from them. Keep an eye on the General forum.)

AM/FM radio

Is there a cab for Kaiser that will install a plain radio on your phone? AM/FM? Lots of Sony comes with one...
better yet is there a cab that will install a projector onto my tilt?
no even better. is there a .cab that will tuen my tilt into a iphone?
I'm looking for a registry tweak that will turn mine into a personal watercraft.
There have been several discussions on this, which you should have seen when you did your search. Even a well respected poster tried, even though he knew there wasn't a fm radio chip it the unit.
you guys are i luck, i just found a cab that will turn your phone into a watercraft with a am/fm radio. here it is readthedamnwiki.cab

Now that is funny!!!
/chuckle /chuckles again
I think this is my favorite thread.
has anyone else noticed that the 3G doesn't work in watercraft mode?
I think I have a solution for that. If you activate your Good Puddle Skipper (GPS) before you activate your Watercraft Mode, then 3G works fine.
Thanks that worked just fine.
The replies are quite funny however the ego is hurt. Been around for a few months but I don't remember seeing a tread asking that. I searched on google and seen nothing so I had to ask.
Closest thing to a radio that I found was Resco Radio which is an interface that helps you connect and manage favorite internet radio feeds. Hope that helps some.
If you care for the details, here are the main two I followed:

Serrious help needed!!!!!!!!
Hey, since you helped with the Watercraftw-AM/FM.cab, I was hoping you'd help me as well! You see I live near Los Angeles & traffic is hell. Do you think you could point me to a cab that would turn my TYTNII into a car pool dummy so I can use the HOV lane?
Or better yet....A cab that would make it into an inflatable doll? That way I get car pool lane & a companion for those lonely nights!
On second thought, nevermind. Sticky buttons & all that.

Actually you are wrong. It does have the ability to do this but HTC did not purchase the driver licence from Cutting Edge Technology giants Qualcast http://www.qualcast.co.uk/rotary/

Any advice on the HTC TyTN II Please

I am about to buy a Orange locked HTC TyTN II of ebay I will unlock it and use it on on O2
I hope.
Apart from this driver issue I have been reading about
do you think they are a good pda phone for the money
I use to have a xda mini s uintil I dropped some wieghts on it at the gym and loved that phone as texting was so easy (been using k800i since then and hate texting)
apart as a backup I wont need tomtom on the phone but would not mind listing to music and watching films playing the odd game.
would you say go for this phone or no go for another model
Thanks for any advice
It's a good phone.
Still one of the most popular on here.
I'm very happy with mine and wouldn't change it. (except maybe for a Raphael, if someone would give me one)

You seem like you want an entertainment device more than a pocket pc. There are many other phones out there that are more suited to music, videos and games.
Don't get me wrong, I love my kaiser for my lifestyle. But my wife also loves her iPhone for her music, videos and games

Thats probably the closest you'll get to an impartial answer asking a question on a forum dedicated to the device
I've had mine since they were first released. Whilst I love my phone I'm happy to acknowledge theres issues with them, however any true geek will work around those issues, (and moan about them to other geeks)
My reason for using a windows mobile device is because of the applications. very few phones have anywhere close to the level of applications that WM devices have.
Things you probably want to consider are "Do I want a keyboard?" "Do I need GPS?" "how big are my pockets?"
My partner loved my TYTN2, but always told me she'd never get one, as it was like carrying a brick. The day she saw a Touch Dual she needed to have one.
its smaller, runs as fast, just doesnt have the bonus extras of Wifi and GPS.
The keyboard is more of a standard phone keypad, but it still had the on screen keypad for texting.
its all down to which features you want.
Ok thanks for all the replies I have been and collected it and it looks good and I think I will be happy when I have got rid of the orange rom of it,(thinks thats what you call it)

I have TomTom 6 working on my phone off the internal GPS no problems.
If you pay for GPS software that is compatable (check with the vendor) with your device then it must work, or you can just get your money back
Some ROMs are incompatable with some GPS software's but you just avoid those

There are enough of these in the wild here in the US of A, is it possible for you to take a look at someone elses over where you are?
I find that the system gets really slow at times and that is my main complaint. I hate being able to out type this thing.

Thanks for your replie
This has tomtom 6 on it what the settings I need to check to see if i can get it to work by the built in gps or is there a way on the phone to test it.
It came on the phone so why wouldn't it work with the phone?
Not sure but why use an external bluetooth Gps unit with it
I guess to save the phones power. All gps programs that I know of can use the internal gps.

I am in the States - I travel all over the USA and use my TOMTOM Navigator 6 all the time - it DOES require that I have it plugged in as the battery life is only about an hour or two with the GPS turned on.
BUT - while the VERY first lock on GPS takes a while there are tricks that make it lock faster and the ROM is a big part of this. The ROM in my signature locks in about 30 seconds.
HTH
Bill
I stopped using tomtom because the screen stayed on all the time, and that will burn down some power too. I use google maps, and I just don't see how people use windows live, I don't even see anything about maps.
XDA Mini S to Kaiser
This was the very same route that I went down so I can probably share some experiences.
My XDA Mini was from O2 but when my contract came up last October, they only had the 'Orbit' so I went over to Orange. I still don't think O2 have the Kaiser in it's true HTC Tytn II form, so you are going down the prefered route if you want to stay with O2.
The XDA Mini was great but very slow on download because it didn't have the advantage of 3G / HSDPA.
The XDA Mini keyboard is very similar in layout to the Kaiser but the Kaiser 'feels' better engineered, the slide is smoother and not as loose, and the tilt screen is useful when using it on a table for typing.
The XDA Mini uses Mini-SD as opposed to Micro-SD, so I had a few memory cards left over (I'm using them on a digital camera, so not wasted).
I used Tomtom on the XDA-Mini with bluetooth but if you didn't get a lock, you were not sure if it was a BT issue or a GPS issue, also I had to reset both a couple of times as the 'pointer' was running parallel to the roads about 200 yrds away and kept trying to re-route. Also, TT needed tweaking for the correct COMs port.
The Kaiser has never been a problem and the GPS lock is quicker, with TT and iGO .. and I've not had to go looking in the footwell of the car when the GPS unit slid off the dash whilst doing an unexpected tight turn !
Also, if I wanted to use the navigational system while walking I had to juggle the GPS receiver as well as holding the phone, which is a big plus.
Apart from unlocking the XDA Mini via this forum, I didn't bother messing with the ROM's, but the Kaiser seems to have so many more opportunies to expand and getting rid of the Orange 'bloat ware' was a benefit.
In summary, the XDA Mini was a fabulous, plastic feeling, lightweight PDA and Phone. The Kaiser is a well engineered, phone with a miniature laptop built in.
If you enjoyed the XDA Mini, the Kaiser will blow your socks off ... when you've got rid of the Orange stuff and added a few cabs

Tilt already coming named?

Hi,
I'm new and I'm happy to be a member this site. I just received my new at&t tilt a couple of days ago. I installed the activesync software on my computer and connected my device via usb. When my device came up on my computer and I ran the short device installation my devices name was "Johnson" ... Is it suppose to come named already? Or would somebody have to had named it? Should I be alarmed? Did I get a used Tilt?
One more question, how do you delete the 10 songs that are already preloaded on the Tilt's memory?
Thanks everyone for your help. I'm so excited to have this phone. I can't wait to dive into it and do all the customizeing that I've seen. I hope to learn a lot from you guys and gals.
where did you purchase it? by default the activesync name should be something like ATT_TILT (im using a cooked rom so its something like HTC_TYTNII) so it sounds like its used..whats the call duration when you goto start>settings>device info>call duration tab ?
The call duration is showing 0's all the way accross. I haven't activated the phone yet. It should be activated tomorrow. Could the call duration time possibly be reset?
When I first turned the phone on I did go through all the set up processes like if it were brand new ...
Is there a way to change the name?

Strange...unless you had active sync on your computer before?
Don't think you can easily reset the usage timer, even on a hard reset.
I just installed 6.1, and it didn't reset the timer.

I bought it from newegg.com. I think they outsource though through a company called simplexity I believe.
Thanks reaper, that worked.
Thanks 007 for the welcome. Anything you could recommend that i could get started on?
Getting Started
If you haven't already, read the manual that is on the CD that came with your phone. That will always be the best place to start. Next, start browsing the forums and do some reading. After that, use the 'Search' feature to get to know what's out there and what you can do with your phone.
I've been lurking here for a couple of days, having just received my Tilt, but am finding this site to be invaluable. I also regularly visit mobilitysite.com, which used to be devoted to the Dell Axim I used to have. Quite a friendly bunch over there, just like we have here.

Awesome! Thanks for all the info and links everyone. Just from those two links I already have a bunch to research and figure out.

Ive had my X2 for a few days now, still cant figure out WM

Alright, so Ive kinda gotten over the fact that my fingers are way too big for this phone and Ive began to be a little bit more nimble...lol...but I have some questions about windows mobile...this is my first WM device...Im worried that symbian is the only one my brain can work with because I did switch one time a few years ago to the LG Viewty but I never really felt comfortable with it...
So heres my first and probably most important question, how do I get my computer to recognize it? I have Windows Vista...I have googled everything and all I have came up with is that I am suppose to use Windows Mobile Device Center...I downloaded drvupdate-x86 and installed it but nothing happened after the install was complete...when I connect the phone it tries to install the drivers(i guess)but then it says something failed with WM Remote Adapter...I then updated windows and tried it again...nothing still...I have also tried to sync it with wmplayer but still nothing...Any ideas?
Also, in the communications manager what should I turn on? Like if I turn on Edge or Wifi does that mean they will be running all the time? That seems like a waste of battery but at the same time when I get on the internet it doesnt ask me what connection I wanna use...and if I have to go to the connection manager every time before I get on the internet that could get annoying...
How do I turn off the SMS sent notification? its so annoying...

As for connection - you connect and disconnect through Comm Manager.
It doesn't turn off by itself what is quite handy if
you rely on constant connection.
Just disconnect when you want to stop it..
Thanks...anybody know of a good, I guess, WM tutorial video for me? lol...I guess I just need to learn the basics or something...
Hi have you loaded the software that came with your phone ? everything that you should need to connect to your pc is on the disc, i think the only other file you might need is if i am right windows net work, there is some instructions in the connect programe to get your setup up and running, i hope this helps i am new to the x1 aswell and i am still learning, only had the phone 2 weeks but liked it so much i bought another one, so i have one on each major network here in New Zealand, also where else can you buy a phone at a decent price and have, a differnt theme on your phone everyday of the week, these cooks are awsome and create some awsome programmes.
there is tons of information here if you cant find it by searching then ask i am sure that no one will bite your head off as most are good guys/gals, i have not had as much fun with anything since my Amiga days, but now i am showing my age lol but what the hell have fun with it and you will only learn by trying and playing with the phone, you can allways return it back original factory settings and you lose nothing apart from your contacts which will be on your sim card and emails will be lost or you can use SPBackup to backup any thing that is important.
i had better shut up as im rambling lol
If you want to connect your phone to your computer using activesync, start up 'Windows Mobile Device Center'
you can do so by going to start > and typing windows mobile device center. The shortcut will show up by itself.

WinMo is so easy. In fact any OS is easy. Just play with your phone and mess with the settings now and then.
Sorry I don't think anyone has answered even one of your questions.
If you keep WiFi on, it is as left on and thus consuming battery life as long as the phone is not sleeping (i.e. screen off), and it is the preferred connection used when there is a WiFi signal available. WiFi will never turn on by itself if left on the off position however.
If you turn off the 3G or EDGE data connection, they will reactivate automatically when needed. It doesn't take much battery life to keep the Internet connection running though, and it is necessary if you are pushing email to your device.
As for Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC), Windows Update will not automatically download the software on its own, and I'm sure the majority of us don't remember the file name of WMDC. So did you download the file you are specifying from this portal? http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx
