[Q] How to get rid of: TOUCH THE FUTURE OF READING - Nook Color General

How to get rid of "Touch the future of Reading" at startup. ?

Are you talking about Stock or Nookie Froyo? I have Nookie Froyo running off MicroSD and when I updated to latest NF using the base files "Touch the Future of Reading" was replaced with a simple "Loading..."

Why do you want to get rid of it? It is part of the normal boot routine and lets you know things are working.

So why would you want to get rid of the stock rom and use Froyo or similar here? Because you WANT TO? If I was running stock and not HC, 'I' would want to get rid of that and maybe change to something personal...
I wouldn't mind directions on how to change that screen to say something like 'Touch on pain of Death' but I am kind of funny that way...

Is it stuck at the android screen or is it boot looping? And don't freak.. rooting, if you've done some research isn't too bad.
It was stuck on the android screen. But I wiped the data and installed a fresh copy of cyanogen mod.
So you got past the android logo?
Yes, now I did because I wiped everything and then installed a new copy. So far it seems to be working. Fingers crossed.
Congrats my friend! Enjoy having root.. If you're interested in running hero.. lemme know! I'm running jacx1.5r2 and it's just speedy as all get out. anyway have fun!
Thanks a lot. I have a question is it better to run the cyanogen mod or the jacx rom?
That's a question that only you have an answer for. I don't personally like the xROM but that's because I've tasted Hero and can't let it go When it comes to the different roms if you really want to know how they run, flash and test! This is going to be the best way for you to see the differences between the roms. (also check the rom's change logs. they have information about updates and whatnot)
Last question, do I need to wipe the phone clean before going to different rom or just flash the rom?
Most of the non-hero roms you can flash without wiping. But if you run into bootloops, then you'll need to wipe.
Alright, thanks a lot for the help.

No problem man
If you plan on trying any Hero roms makes sure you update the new Radio and SPL. And please god make sure you do the RADIO FIRST then the SPL. If you don't do it that way you will have a $400 paperweight.
And my opinion, stick with non-Hero for now. Not saying they aren't good but I have tested all of them for a day or 2 each and even with a class 6 sd card and trying different swap values and sizes they always have some lag. If you are a casual user then I suppose you would be fine, but I have a business to run and cannot afford to miss any calls or texts. I need the web to run and be able to go home without and lag, or to get a quick email out in under a minute. Some people here say its just as fast but I have to disagree for the most part. When the dev's can get these new sets of hero rom's to be fully stable/optimized maybe I will try again but if you rely on your phone like I do then you may want to stick with cyan/xrom/jf for now.

Froyo apps2sd causes phone to soft reboot.

Anyone else having this problem? Any time I try to move an app to SD it just sits there for a little bit and then reboots. I can't update google skymap because I think it's trying to install on the SD too.
I tried searching but my search-fu is weak in this case. I did find someone in some other forum saying he had this problem but it seems to have gone unnoticed.
Anyone? Bueller? Not even a "apps2sd works for me wtf are you talking about?"?
Apps2sd works for me wtf are you talking about?
How about some details?
AT&T or T-Mobile Nexus One?
Bootloader locked or unlocked.
Rooted or unrooted
Stock FROYO? FRF50? FRF72?
What radio?
Using custom cooked rom?
This is me: AT&T Nexus One, unlocked, rooted, official FRF72, apps2sd works just fine, wtf are you talking about?
I'm having this problem too. I suspect it's related to having used cyanogenmod's a2sd for the apps in question - your thoughts on that?
I'm currently running frf50 on an unlocked t-mobile n1. I used someone's pre-rooted Rom. I was running cyanogen 5.0.7, used apps2sd once but decided to undo it and did a nandroid restore. I didn't do a wipe so I'm going to try that and see if it makes any difference.
This is exactly my situation, I suspect even the same pre-rooted froyo (Paul's). Let me know if the wipe helps, and if it does... how do you recover all your stuff?

So I wiped my phone last night, and everything seems to be working now. Started up my phone, logged in, and all my apps started reinstalling. I used SMS backup & restore to restore my SMSs, and everything is mostly back to normal.
How are you moving apps to sd?
I have the exact same problem as the op describes.
Running frf50 on a T-Mobile N1 that I updated the day that build leaked. Not the pre-rooted version I don't believe.
I'd like to figure out exactly how to fix it since from time to time my phone will tell me it's low on space and I end up having to delete several things.
I'm gonna be blunt and say anyone who doesn't want too root their phone really should not be running leak builds of an OS either.
You're just asking for trouble, and without recourse to fix it.

rooting Droid Original

I currently have the original droid and attempted to root it using super one click and it would lock up or stop running at the prompt: get mount path...... any ideas I currently am running version 2.2
You can't use super one click on the over the air build. I would suggest using zRoot, you can get it right off the market. I had the same problem.
Original Moto Droid
I recently got a replacement phone via my insurance... however this one does not have the froyo update. I would like to root my phone... so that I can use the wifi tether... and it seems there are quite a few other things you can do to improve the performance of the phone. I am unexperienced and would like a step-by-step. Oh yeah... to make matters just a little more difficult... (sorry) I do not have usb cable. Is it possible to do these things without that?
Please help!
Do you want Froyo 2.2? Thats an easy over the air update. Cause then you can get Adobe flash and all of that. If not Im sorry I can't help. But if you want 2.2 then you can get Zroot from the android market. It's an easy one click root. After that get rom manager and make a nadroid recovery backup and flash a clockwork. If you need more help with either of them I can find you a link in this forum I bet.

[Q] Is their any advantage to staying at 1.0?

I bought a nook color yesterday so I could get in on the rooting and roming fun as well. It came with 1.0, which I've already rooted and am now running HC from an SD card. A bit slow, so I'm planning on trying to install it internally. 2 Questions:
1. Is their any reason I should stay at 1.0? Or should I upgrade to 1.01 or 1.1? Will I be able to go back to 1.0 if I want using the 8 reboot method?
2. If I install HC to the internal memory, will I be able to restore to stock? I'm not sure I'm going to keep this device yet so I don't want to do something that will make it impossible to return to stock.
Thanks
1: No, there is no benefit to staying at 1.0.0. If you want to stick with stock eclair then upgrade to 1.1.0, the update fixed some WiFi issues. To revert back to an older "save" install clockwork mod via rom manager and make a backup. That backup can be reflashed whenever from whatever.
2:I don't know what you're confusing GB for but so far only Eclair/Froyo/HoneyComb currently run on the nook color. Yes you can revert back to any older CWM backup from any install on your eMMC. There are stock flashable images in the dev forum, so don't worry about not being able to go back to stock.
Good luck. Have fun.

sorry, typo, i meant HC not GB. who can keep them straight these days? thanks for your answers. i've read reports of people having various problems with 1.1.0, it seems the consensus is 1.01 is the version to be on.

I think the problems you're talking about stem from upgrading an already rooted 1.0.0 or 1.0.1 with clockwork mod installed. If you start with a fresh(no root/CWM) 1.0.0 install then upgrade to 1.1.0 via b&n, then root it; you're in the clear.
But why bother with all of that when nookie Froyo 6.8 on eMMC is stable and performing beautifully.

1. none that I could ever see... must've fixed something to warrant two updates although I believe that both were mostly for WiFi but I never had problems with 1.0 or 1.01...
...now I'm just wondering where the new B&N updates are as IIRC they had TWO slated for February and it's getting to be kind of late in the month to push out two updates... might just as well do one big one now... hope that they're skipping Android 2.2 and going straight to 2.3 or 3.0...

Well the only reason I bought a Nook Color was to play with Honeycomb, dont have much interest in running Froyo, I can do that on my EVO already
One reason to stay with one of the stock ROMs is if you want to use the B&N reader and B&N kids functionality, which are not part of the froyo or HC ROMs. I personally use it a lot and hope they'll get ported over.

Im sure thats important to many people, although I strictly bought this to play with Honeycomb. Now that I've got it running, I'm wondering what I'll actually use this device for? I can already do all this stuff on my EVO and the screen size isn't that much bigger. It sure had been fun messing with it though! Why B&N didnt enable some of this functionality out of the box I'll never understand!

[Q] Hi, Please dont flame me.

*Im coming from an Inspire and An Atrix and there are SO fewer options for those phones.
*I have searched both Google and XDA but I still have no idea whats best for my phone.
I have a stock N1 running 2.3.3 build GRI40
I have gotten as far as unlocking the bootloader. Now I need to know whats the best way to get what I want out of this phone.
My requests are simple, I want a rom/mod? that will enable different color trackball notifications thats fast and stable and will also install root. If I need to root first than please advise which is the cleanest way. I have read about a super one click available for the N1, but am a bit apprehensive as that method made a mess of my Atrix (busybox issues)
I'm just looking for some kind advice and a push (preferably a nudge ) in the right direction here. Im a fast learner, just slow to get going
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help.
As youve already unlocked your bootloader and are looking for a new rom then you dont need to root your current one. Simply boot to the bootloader, flash your recovery of choice, reboot into it and flash your rom of choice. You'll find plenty of guides/info in the dev forum or nexus one wiki.
As for the rom, I've tried the majority of roms out there but have ended up coming back to cm7. It has trackball alert/wake and inbuilt support for trackball notifications (And the Trackball alert app from the market). I did remove several apps using titanium backup but its still an excellent rom. It also has a great community following, receives regular updates (There are even nightlies for flash addicts) and has numerous add ons/themes for cm7 exclusively.
However you may be best at trying a few roms and seeing how they feel as every users needs differ. Should you end up going with cm7 make sure to go to Settings - Cyanogenmod settings, that's where all the fun is
I think unlocking the bootloader does not necessarily mean you get the root access right away, Right? Please correct me if I am wrong. In case you need to root your stock gingerbread, you can try gingerbreak v1.2. It is easy to use and works for me.
In my experience, cm7.0.2.1 is still the most functional mod for n1 so far. Regarding the trackball notification, I like the Light flow with stock gingerbread better because it allows me to use different colors even with different gmail accounts.
thank you both!!
regarding light flow, I installed it on the phone as is right now (bootloader unlocked) 2.3.3 and the notifications dont work. Is light flow functional only after root?
Again, thank you SO much, I really appreciate all the help! You guys are geniuses here!
Also, which recovery is best? I used clockwork mod on my other phones, but didnt know if that was optimal for the N1
Thank you!!!!
According to the light flow app, it should work in non-rooted stock (although my stock gingerbread has been rooted). Have you changed the accessibility setting?
I will recommend to use either RA 2.2.1 or clockwork 2.5.1.4 for recovery. I have tried clockwork 3.0.0.5 before. It messed up my SD card.
The best option for color track ball is installing cyanogen 7. It has full color track ball built right into the main phone settings menu. Stable, most options of all choices out there, and easiest.
