I have read many versions of instructions on how to root my Nook 1.10, but I am a little confused as I proceed. Here's what has happened so far:
1) I downloaded and extracted WinImage.
2) I downloaded auto-nooter 3.0, and I extracted the file using Peazip. That left me with a WinZip file. Since I don't have a copy of WinZip, I downloaded 7-Zip, and used that to extract my WinZip file.
3) That left me with an auto-nooter 3.0.0 folder.
4) Inside the folder are three files:
0.fat
1.fat
2
My question now is, which one (or more) of these 3 files do I put into WinImage to get onto my SD card? I haven't seen these three files mentioned in any other tutorial.
Thanks for the help anybody can give me.

I don't know much about your problem specifically, but after reading your report, I might suggest you link where you got the files. That way, someone might try downloading the same files and see the results you got. Easier to troubleshoot that way
Thanks for the suggestion. I got the files from here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?46vb5569wm35kp6
I got the link from xda's Auto-Nooter 3.0 instruction page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942424
Hope this helps.
Anybody used auto-nooter 3.0?

Hey I am new, and I am wondering how do you install cab files? I downloaded the midlet manager and i extracted it on my pc, and i see a bunch of files but none of them are cab files, they are all unidentified, can some one help me please? much appreciated
thanks in advanced
Just copy and paste the zipped cabfile in your phone anywhere through Activesync, preferably 'My documents' folder and execute it there in the phone,it'll run and install all by itself.
Cheers!
when I extract the file,I dont see any cab files, So i just put the whole folder in my phone,I try clicking on the files and they wont open,I just get a message sayin
"There is no application associated with "00CAB10A",run application first then open this file from within the application
ok, for 'Midlet' here's how you do it as per the post in Midlet Manager by risidoro:-
------- HOW TO INSTALL ------------
- Download Risidoro's Intent MIDlet Manager version 11.1.7.1023
- extract the cab (inside the archive) somewhere in your PC (e.g. Desktop)
- copy to somewhere in your PocketPC (e.g. \storage card)
- in your PocketPC, navigate with File Manager to the cab and tap on it to install
- when asked, choose to install in the Device (and NOT in Storage Card!)
- reboot when asked
or read the thread :-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286604
Cheers!

You are NOT supposed to unpack the CAB!!!
You must copy the cab (Risidoro_Intent_MIDlet_Manager_11.1.7.1023.cab) found inside the zip file from the thread that zabardast linked to your device and simple run it (one click via File Explorer or double-click with Total Commander)
as simple as that...
thank you so much
I got it installed
ok I have a htc droid eris and I can't find the file manager on my phone to get to the files on the sdcard. so I downloaded a file manager app and when I click on the .cab file it does not just install it asks what I want to do open with kind of thing. like browser and a bunch more things I have tried most of them and nothing is working. Is there something else I need to install a .cab file with this phone or wtf is my dumb butt doing wrong to not be able to install it.
Install .cab files to unlock sd card.
Hi, think ive messed up here... can someone help or confirm my balls up!
Ive been following this tutorial to flash my hd2 with an updatable Win.7 rom;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236027
Charging ahead, installed, had a few probs along the way but worked through them... got it installed and working!
Then, moving onto step two of my plan, a dual boot of Android from sd card... :S Do you know whats coming? After re-reading the install instructions I noticed the 'Unlock SDCard' a few steps before installing the rom. :S I have now learnt that Windows mobile 7 locks the sd card to the device and is un-usable in anything else, having already messed up an 8gb and a 16gb...!
Could anyone please tell me if it is possible to 'somehow' install the .cab files to unlock the sd card...? or anyone know of a way to decrypt the sd card?
"THE SD CARD IS UN-READABLE IN MY PC AND PHONE WITH WM6.5 STOCK ROM"
If I re-install the rom from the 'back to the future' tutorial (link above), the storage is available for use on the hd2, but still cannot be seen by my PC... making it hard to install .cab file or anything else!
Both my sd cards have effectivly been high-jacked by microsoft...!
Please help me liberate my GB's...!

I don't think there is a phone that can use zipped files right out of the box, so you should first unpack the content of the zip, as you would do it on the PC.

pretty sure I've been opening ZIP files on my X1 via the default File Manager without any 3rd party software.
Although I'm guessing the original poster is getting confused between CAB and ZIP because Windows XP likes to treat them as the same.
I'v a question! Please help.
Well, if .zip file contain .cab or .exe then the procedure is lay down.
What in the case of zip files of theme or clock contain only .png file in that.
I mean, how to use such zips??
For more clarity to my question please check attachment enclosed & explain me, "In case I want to install that clock on my WM, how to proceed??"
Thanks in advance!!
You don't use the .zip, you have to copy those .png images into a specific folder.
Or maybe you downloaded the source images, i don't really know, i never installed a new clock theme or something.
Where do you have this file from?

Download it man, and unzip it in the root of your SDcard , then run the HARET in your PDA... its all
i have download there seems to be only 1 file ive put it in the root of my SDcard but i cant find a file for haret maybe a link could do
also which files must i download becuase ive only download the System pack in Post #4 and like i said there is only 1 file there
I'm also a noob, but I figured it out.
1. download the other file on post #4. The "bundle."
2. open up windows explorer, if you're running windows, so you can open up the SD card. Make sure it's formatted in FAT32 (right click on the SD card in explorer and look through the properties, or just click "format."
3.unzip the bundle file, there should be a folder named "andboot" in it.
4. copy everything from "andboot" and copy it to the SD card.
5. Go into the folder, in all the junk you just copied, called Startup Config.
6. Find your model, "Topaz" and copy the statrup.txt file, not the other one.
7. Go back up to the top of the SD card and paste it there.
8. Disconnect the phone, and go in through file explorer and run the file Harnet.exe on the SD card.
It will take some time, but it should all boot up fine.
Watch the video, it should help, if not, ask more questions.
(it wouldn't let me post the link, so search youtube for TheDeadCPU and watch his video on XDAndroid 2.2)

Still not working
Hey guys,
I have followed the instructions, but when I click on haret.exe it turns my mda compact IV off, but when the phone starts it just starts windows mobile and no android at all. I don't knw what to do? Please help!
Alan
I installed the XDANDROID 2.2 on my HTC DT2. It works fine the only BIG problem I have is I can't type in the terminal emulator for some unknown reason.
I tried everything and don't know what to try anymore.
I just purchased a nook color on ebay with intentions of making it an android tablet. The only thing i have rooted was a cell phone and it was a one click process.
The root method i tried was on a youtube tutorial. I downloaded clockwork, winzip, and win32. I opened clockwork through winzip and extracted it to desktop(there was no unzip button like youtube suggested). When it finished i opened win32, clicked the three dots and the file did not show up under the desktop tab. I typed it in manually and two clockwork files showed up. One with a .tar and one with a .tar.gz.... the .tar was the only one win32 would let me burn to sd. I put the sd in the nook and kept getting promts to format it. Tried rebooting but its boots up normal and then ask to format sd again.
Where have i gone wrong? Is there an easier way to load a custom froyo or honeycomb rom without the clockwork step?
I rooted mine and didn't have any problems with the clockwork step. I am not super familiar with all the steps but it sounds like you aren't making the sd card bootable. There is an awesome step by step using manual noter for 1.2 on here.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Would you happen to have a link to that? Also, my understanding is that i need root before i can install a custom rom like froyo...?
unpack the .tar using 7zip. You should get an .img, which you should write.
7zip is here. http://www.7-zip.org/
So I will need CWM for my size sd. Then 7-zip to convert to an IMG. What do I need to write the IMG to the sd card? I am having alot of trouble with win32.
After all of this I will finally be able to use a froyo or honeycomb rom?
Bump for suggestions
By unpack, what exactly do you mean? Extract?

Put the zip files in the ttinstall folder as downloaded. Don't unzip anything. RAR files won't work.

I found that out the hard way as well. Hours later things started to come together but finding a compatible backup file took near half day as well. That one did not work despite mentions and was not compatible with my DataMedia package I decided to use from Evervol. These are conveniently omitted from every feed and process I had watched and read for days. I think I used a CWP backup which was accepted but no idea where it is to backup with after it all got installed. I gave up after that since I was worn out and google eyed after the day was done. Remove any unzipped files from the ttinstall folder. You should only have 3 zipped files in there.
Good luck.
