I am having a weird issue with the Estrongs app. Before the conversion to EXT4/Overcome rom I could view all files. Since the conversion any folder I chose says empty?
Astro file manager shows me all the contents but I can not mount the drive like Estrongs.. any idea's?

What kernel did you flash? Go to settings to check if both your SD cards card mounted. If not it may be due to the kernel you flashed.. which screwed up the mounting of sdcards. If that's the case, you gotta do a full flash with repartition. Richardtrip's version 11 caused my sdcards to become unmountable 2 weeks ago. Hope this helps.
Most probably your internal SD card is wiped . Such things can happen . If so you need reflash a new rom with repartition, PIT, PDA
Ok so both cards read a storage size...
Like I stated in the Op, I can view all the files in astro, just not EStrongs. Is there another app that will allow me root access and be able to mount the.drive as rw to make changes??

Easy killer.. I posted here because everything worked fine with EStrongs while on Roto's v2. Switch to Richardtrips kernel and the Overcome rom and now I have no root access through EStrongs. I would venture to say that that is a development issue with either the kernel or ROM.....
Open your superuser app and delete or remove the estrongs entry where it allows that program for SU access and try it again.
And Not trying to be mean, however if it is something with that rom or kernel post in that thread or email the developers of estrongs
If u think that is the fault of the ROM.., Maybe You should post inside that topic. If everyone open a new post for asking Question , what will be here like?
Respect to the Developer, they spend their time without income and shared their success.
Overcome have no such issue at all as my experience.

After much google searching, and searching here on XDA, I'm at a loss. I have the Allshare.apk and .odex, however I have had no luck installing them. I've tried various suggesions, including pushing them from adb shell, and nothing seems to work.
I would love to continue using custom roms, but not having Allshare is a big reason for me to just use rooted stock. The rom I'm trying to install it on is Cognition Beta (Froyo).
Titanium Backup also doesn't work for this. It tells me that it backed up Allshare, but when I try to install it, the restore button doesn't even show up.
Also, a quick question for Rom Manager. With the rom backup feature, can you only restore a backup for the rom you are using? (i.e if you want to restore a backup for another rom, you have to flash the rom first, then restore?)
Although posted in the wrong forum... I'd also like an answer to this. Running CDE and would really like to have AllShare to stream movies off my media server.

Not sure why this would be the wrong forum. I'm using a Captivate, and trying to install Allshare on a Captivate rom.
use root explorer and add them to System/app and paste both files there.
reboot your device, and voila

Still at square one. Altho the .apk and .odex are now in system/apps, it didn't affect anything. Also, looked up root explorer, and how to use it, then downloaded it. It won't remount my main file system as read only...so it's permanently in r/w now.
Also tried flashing to killer23d's rom, to use titanium backup on the allshare he has in his rom, still wouldn't work.
So....clueless at this point.

At one point, I had this same problem, and the only solution there is, is to reflash the rom. It's a PITA, I know. And don't worry about what your filesystem is mounted as in Root Explorer. After every reboot it reverts to read only again.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be my case. Even after reflashing Cognition, my file system is still R/W. Didn't even have to hit the white button on root explorer to paste files into system/app.
Also, adding dlna.apk and dlna.odex into system/app still isn't giving me Allshare.
Edit: Well, I've found a better solution. I'm gonna go with Killer23d's rom...looks alot more like stock Froyo, is based on the I9000, has Allshare, AND Mobile AP. Both features that I wanted.
Thanks for trying guys. If anyone does come up with a solution tho, please feel free to use this thread, as searching for allshare.apk on google results in this thread being either the 2nd or 3rd search result (can't remember).
Works for me.
I just put AllShare back in, using the attached file, and it's working fine.
I'm running Cognition 2.2 Beta 9.1.3 and put the file into "system\app" using Root Explorer.
I also changed the permissions of the file and selected just the following:
USER = READ + WRITE
GROUP = READ
OTHERS = READ
Remove any other checked permissions.
In case you don't know how to get into the permissions, just long-press the file, from within Root Explorer, and choose "Permissions" from the list that pops up.
Don't forget to reboot right after.
Your issue is most likely because you are trying to reintegrate an odex'ed AllShare while you are using a de-odex'ed ROM. Ozone777's file looks to be about the correct size for a de-odex'ed AllShare. Just move it into the /system/app folder with root explorer as mentioned above and you should be good to go.
I used terminal to drop the APK attached in the previous post into /system/app and it works beautifully. CogYo 2.2.9

First you need to root your phone. As the term implies it gives you root access.
Then use an app like root explorer to get into root directories, mount them as rw, then do as you will.

Hello,
for me sounds like you need root access to your system to see this folders and a file explorer with root too like root explorer....but is not for free. I already didn´t found a free option.
Is only a idea...I didn´t try self
Edit: I was too slow :-D

Hi,
Android noob here.
How can I create/use file/folder shortcuts under Android ?
My music files (mp3) are on my ext-sd card, I'd like to use some of thems as ringtones w/o cluttering my system partition by copy/move to system/media/audio/ringtones.
Is there an easy way to create shortcuts to my media files and moving them there ? Tried several file managers (Astro, Xplore, Root Explorer ...) w/o success.
Any guidance will increase your thanks meter.
I'm on stock ICS (LRG) with Notecore kernel.
You can set folders as favourites in es file explorer to make them quickly accessible...

Not exactly.
I'd like to create a link(pointer) file, as I can do it on Windows, that I could move to system/media/audio/ringtones, instead of the much larger mp3 file. With MS Windows I can select a file in Explorer, right click->Create shortcut, then I can use that small .lnk file anywher and use it the real file.
Windows provides other similar functions (Junctions, hard links), I do'nt know any equivalents on Linux/Android.

Thanks, it resolved my practical problem.
However I find incredible that such a simple and very useful feature (sortcuts to files/folders which could be stored anywhere) is not available on an mature OS . I made extensive searches with Google, found apps which generate files/folders shortcuts only on the home screen.
Hi,
Ive always used CWM to make my recoveries. But now, with Nexus 7 (CWM touch 6.0.1.9), Im unable to locate the backup files. There is no BACKUP folder in the clockwork folder and while I did a search using google and found many answers for my question, none of them was right. And I didnt make update from 4.1.2 - I cleaned the whole device and flashed stock 4.2.1 via fastboot, so I dont believe there is some directory tree change mess. And there is no BLOBS folder either.
I just flashed the ROM, rooted it using Toolkit, flashed CWM, made a backup - and boom, nothing there, while it is visible in both CWM recovery and ROM manager. I tried renaming the backup in ROM manager and searching for its new name using File Manager (with root privileges), but I was unsuccessful ...
So, please help me or provide me with a relevant link as I dont like TWRP ...
EDIT: I deleted the /SDCARD/CLOCKWORK folder and flashed TWRP. Now, I returned to CWM, made a backup using CWM and not only I dont see the backup itself, it didnt even recreate the CLOCKWORK folder. I just made a full search in the whole filesystem and there is nothing with "clock" in name (nothing relevant). Where is the backup hidden?????
Tried using it today. Its in some God forsaken rabbit hole. First enable root in es file explorer settings. Then look in system for data, media and eventually clockworkmod. That's the help I can give u.

Thanks, but that not the place for me. /data is empty and the only folder found containing "clock" in the file structure is /sstorage/emulated/0/clockwork ... the same as /sdcard/clockwork I was talking about. only three small files and thats it, no BACKUP or BLOBS.
GOT IT!!! I dont know why it wasnt visible with rooted File Manager, but I tried ES and its there ... bam ... THANKS A LOT!
Now, whats the best way to save this stuff to a computer?
its because Jellybean 4.2 uses diff storage paths...
Android 4.2 significantly changes the way how sdcards are handled internally, your data is moved from /sdcard/ into /sdcard/0 on first boot (0 is the 'home directory' of the default user). If you go back to 4.1.2: Don't forget to move the data in 0/ back to the root of your sdcard.

Well, Im aware of that. But that doesnt explain why the files are under /data/media/clockwork. Neither it does explain why it wasnt shown/found by File manager with root privileges - although I guess its the problem of the File manager, as ES File Explorer sees that without any problems ...
Now, I switched CWM to save to TAR and made a backup. It created a folder "/data/media/clockwork/backup/2013-01-08-1214" with 9 files, size about 1,1GB. Is it sufficient for me to copy this file to my computer? Im talking about backing up the backup (heh) ...
Also, is it ok that files cache.ext4.tar, data.ext4.tar and system.ext4.tar are 0mb? Thanks!
EDIT: I tried moving a backup folder to my pc, making factory reset, copying it back to where it was and restoring - everything works fine. Although I dont get why google messed the sw insides so much - my Nexus S seems to be much better in the matter of directory tree - and doesnt wipe all my files when doing stock restore from PC ...

What do I do wrong?

If you are using mm, you need to give the file manager explicit permission to write to the sdcard.
The file manager should ask for this permission.

MM = Marshmallow

I felt it's a stupid question...
It's strange. Android sees the card in Settings/memory. It also sees that 51 GB of 59 are full. But only sometimes it also sees the files. Sometimes it only sees the folders, and when opening them they seem to be empty. Just no files can be seen. But once it even worked to open Fotos on the SD-card, change something and save it again...
That's really strange, and I have no more idea what I could try else?

Use a different file manager. If you're rooted the best is root explorer.
They also have a free non root version called Explorer or try ES Explorer.

I already did that. The phone is rooted, TWRP on it. Since Total Commander didn't work on the SD card, and also the built in file manager from Samsung I installed ES file explorer. And then it worked. But only for a short time. It's really strange.

You won't have any issues with root explorer.
Also MM manages sdcard access on a per app basis. The app must be mm compatible and request access permission.
App permissions can also be enabled/disabled in app manager.
