Shortcuts to files - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Android noob here.
How can I create/use file/folder shortcuts under Android ?
My music files (mp3) are on my ext-sd card, I'd like to use some of thems as ringtones w/o cluttering my system partition by copy/move to system/media/audio/ringtones.
Is there an easy way to create shortcuts to my media files and moving them there ? Tried several file managers (Astro, Xplore, Root Explorer ...) w/o success.
Any guidance will increase your thanks meter.
I'm on stock ICS (LRG) with Notecore kernel.

You can set folders as favourites in es file explorer to make them quickly accessible...

No need no put in system partition, just on.sdcard/media/audio/ringtone.will work.
Even on ext sdcard.with same path.as said above shud work too.

I tried it with ES file manager and could create a folder/file shortcut from ext sd on an empty place of one of my home screens...is this what you want?

Not exactly.
I'd like to create a link(pointer) file, as I can do it on Windows, that I could move to system/media/audio/ringtones, instead of the much larger mp3 file. With MS Windows I can select a file in Explorer, right click->Create shortcut, then I can use that small .lnk file anywher and use it the real file.
Windows provides other similar functions (Junctions, hard links), I do'nt know any equivalents on Linux/Android.

Thanks, it resolved my practical problem.
However I find incredible that such a simple and very useful feature (sortcuts to files/folders which could be stored anywhere) is not available on an mature OS . I made extensive searches with Google, found apps which generate files/folders shortcuts only on the home screen.

[Q] Transferring swype application

Is there a way to manually transfer swype application together with the database, dictionaries, etc from one ROM to another?
I would like to upgrade to a JPY based ROM, but I don't want to lose swype installed in my current ROM. It has the languages I need as well as a proper RTL support.
I tried backing up swype with MyBackup Pro, then restoring it on JPY ROM. It didn't work, apparently.
Thanks!
No takers?
Does anybody know if it's even possible? Could save me a lot of time copying files and flashing back and forth if I knew ahead that it just can't be done.
Thanks!
+ 1
I too would love to know.

Yes but you have to either replace the files in the Rom zip or move the files manually after flashing. You dont install swipe, you just use adb or file manager to move files to correct locations.

Yeah, I tried that, but it didn't work for me. Either I missed some of the necessary files, or there some compatibility/dependence issues. I'd like to know if it's the former or the latter...

EStrongs File manager issue?

I am having a weird issue with the Estrongs app. Before the conversion to EXT4/Overcome rom I could view all files. Since the conversion any folder I chose says empty?
Astro file manager shows me all the contents but I can not mount the drive like Estrongs.. any idea's?

What kernel did you flash? Go to settings to check if both your SD cards card mounted. If not it may be due to the kernel you flashed.. which screwed up the mounting of sdcards. If that's the case, you gotta do a full flash with repartition. Richardtrip's version 11 caused my sdcards to become unmountable 2 weeks ago. Hope this helps.
Most probably your internal SD card is wiped . Such things can happen . If so you need reflash a new rom with repartition, PIT, PDA
Ok so both cards read a storage size...
Like I stated in the Op, I can view all the files in astro, just not EStrongs. Is there another app that will allow me root access and be able to mount the.drive as rw to make changes??

Easy killer.. I posted here because everything worked fine with EStrongs while on Roto's v2. Switch to Richardtrips kernel and the Overcome rom and now I have no root access through EStrongs. I would venture to say that that is a development issue with either the kernel or ROM.....
Open your superuser app and delete or remove the estrongs entry where it allows that program for SU access and try it again.
And Not trying to be mean, however if it is something with that rom or kernel post in that thread or email the developers of estrongs
If u think that is the fault of the ROM.., Maybe You should post inside that topic. If everyone open a new post for asking Question , what will be here like?
Respect to the Developer, they spend their time without income and shared their success.
Overcome have no such issue at all as my experience.

Darky 9.5 Auto call recording bug?

Hi,
Everytime i make a call my phone records by default the conversation. I have looked and searched everywhere and i could not find any solution or the setting to disable this auto record feature.
Any idea? Iam running on Darky 9.5.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
There are some files missing from your SD card, which shoud be there.
To disable autorecording
add files
.norec_in
.norec_out
with no content to your sd-card.
Awesome it helped.
Thank you.

Hi,
How to add the above 2 files and from where I need to download these files...please help!!!!
create a new file (text file), rename it to .norec_in and .norec_out
for exemple : "no_name.txt" to ".norec_in"
hey, i'm having the same problem with Darky 9.5.
I created those files and added them to the root internal sd card but the calls are still automatically recorded... do these files need to be in a specific directory?
Thanks
Need to ask darky .
jje
My bad, my PC (windows 7 pro) automatically added the .txt file extension when I copied the files across via USB. As soon as I emailed them rather than copying them across it stopped recording straight away, without even rebooting

How to acces "system" folder on Droid 3?

If a connect it to the PC, i cannot see the system folder. (is there any trick I am not aware of?)
If i use a folder manager, i cannot put a ringtone in the system/media folder...its probably protected or so.
does it HAVE to be rooted or so?
thank you.
Root is required to make changes to /system
Sent from my DROID3 using xda premium
If you wanna put a ringtone in /system/media use root explorer. That's the easiest way for you, if you're advanced and wanna get familiar with adb, adb push it

THANK YOU.
I assumed that
but is the ROOT safe at this time? i have red a lot of issues after ROOTing...
Uhh... root is kinda never safe? Haha. Idk what you mean by that

getting root itself normally isnt a big issue.. normally people run in to more trouble when they have attempted flashes that go awry.
I used to flash my HTC Touch Pro 2 with a CUSTOM Rom almost every month... for more than 1 year..and no issues there...
but the number of topics with problems after booting the D3...made me think again when modding this phone...
With just a root, you should be ok. I feel that just rooting does very little, and as said before, the issues only arise when we try to take advantage of what root enables us to do...freezing, modding, flashing, etc.
i just want to put a custom ringtone (mp3 file) in the ringtones folders.
the ringtones from this phone..are really stupid.
any ideas which does not include root?
Well I use the MIUI music app and when it asks me to choose a ringtone I just chooose it through that
Sent from my DROID3 using xda premium
Use Ringdroid, it's free in market. Ringdroid allows you to crop and edit audio files, turn them in to ringtones and set them as default.
worked perfectly with ringdroid
if i unistall the application, the ringtone will remain?
use root explorer. Thats how i get to it.

nope. if i try to move with root explorer a file in system folder, it says i can not do that. probably because the phone is not rooted.

Exactly. Do not be afraid to root it, you can unroot it whenever you like.

I'm rather sure it was created in the same folder the aroma-app-package-creator.jnlp was in and it's a zip file, there is no exe.
Probably yes but there was not really a problem you just need all the apk files and it takes some time but the result is very good and usefull.
My mistake, i was talking about the .jnlp file.
Btw i put in this paclage creator only the apk files and did not add any app folder.
I'm gonna try it again later on today. The first few try out the program worked pretty fast but no zip to be seen LOL. Lets see what will happen later on.

Works flawlessly for me
:victory::victory::victory: YES, FINALLY. i made it :laugh: i think i know what was the problem. i didnt give enough time to create the .ZIP file. if would have waited for 20 secs longer on each earlier attempt, i would have had those files already. LMAO, i'm such a noob dang so stupid of me. well no i know to double check myself. hehe.
