Pros & Cons Of Incredible S
Why isn't there any thread concerning this is definitely one great phone to get ones hands on
So I thought why not start discussion about Incredible S as one great pro I believe it being no more a Verizon exclusive maybe it later becomes their flagship product who knows only time can tell
Ill list mine, assuming it is going to have TMo 3G.
Pros:
- 4" display
- It looks great
- Decent CPU and GPU
- 768M ram
- the fancy rotating button display
- basically an adult looking mt4g, which is good since that is a great phone technically
Cons:
- No qHD,still 800x480
- not 4.3" (i still dont know if I care, might be easier to one-hand a 4", no that's not what she said..)
- No TMo 4G? Cant confirm, but it appears to be the myTouch 4G in a classier package so the chipset should support it
- the fancy rotating button display if it uses battery of significance
- not dual core (though this may not matter too much right away)
I may get this depending on when and if they announce the pyramid dates, just so i can get a new gadget fix for a while...

I'm considering this phone so I'll add a few to that list:
Pros:
Notification LED (yeah, this one really matters to me)
1.3 MP Front camera (not that I actually use them)
EDGE at up to 560 kbps download speed (usually phones have less than half that)
Cons:
Will probably have poor battery life (See complaints about HTC's myTouch 4G)
Only 1.1 GB Storage (I assume that is the free space)
S-LCD Screen (rather than Super AMOLED Plus)
No HDMI Out (or TV-Out of any kind that I can see)
No Gyroscope

From the HTC website:
HSPA/WCDMA:
* Europe/Asia: 900/AWS/2100 MHz
3G:
* Up to 14.4 Mbps download speed
* Up to 5.76 Mbps upload speed
This means that it should support 3G on T-Mobile USA at speeds that American networks claim to be 4G. I believe that this is the same as the myTouch 4G.

This its still a very viable phone. DOA could be further from the truth. I hate to break it to us, but the XDA hard-to-impress lot are a small minority compared to the average consumer who gets the phone recommended to the by a store clerk. Not to mention Verizon its far from the only carrier in existence.

You do realize the Incredible S and Incredible 2 are essentially the same device right? Only difference is Verizon's version will have a CDMA/GSM chip for global use and probably a 16GB microSD card.
Could you be willing enough to provide a link to where you read about this 16gb Incredible 2 and also that only this much change happen when launched at Verizon

For me the bigger screen is better too BUT the problem with the DHD is that it comes with a 1230 mAh battery that fits inside the body so a significantly bigger battery can't be used.
Also the battery cover is so flimsy and useless that I wouldn't want to have to take it off and put it on again... ever. It really is some poor design.
If it weren't for the battery issue I would have bought the DHD last year. Now I'm looking at the Incredible S.

which one would you get? i cant wait any longer seeing as how my hero broke. do you think there will be lots of devs working on the shift?
the shift isn't out and hasn't been announced yet, if you need a phone now you get the evo
we know a lot of the specs of the shift though. the processor is the same as the g2 which is better than the evo and so is the gpu. im mainly worried about the devs. seeing as how evo has a very active section. i dont know whether the shift will get any.
Jan 9th appears to be the best guess release date based on leaked documents.
What it comes down to, is if you want a physical keyboard or not. The internals will be different, but nothing drastic. Lots of working being done on the EVO, so I dont think you'll go wrong either way.
The Shift's screen is too small and has too much extra space under the buttons for my liking. Design fail.
the shift will be able to be clocked to 1.9ghz which is crazy. but i think the evo will be better in the long run with devs and support

There were a couple of comments in the comment section that referenced that same processor was o/c'd to 1.9 on the G2. I do believe
http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/21/htc-evo-shift-4g-spotted-in-the-wild-said-to-have-800mhz-cpu/
yeah. the processor in the shift is the same as in the g2. the devs on the g2 have been able to overclock it to 1.9 stable.
check this out: http://smartphonebenchmarks.com/
g2 own all other phones right now with the processor
WoW! I want one lol
Got a upgrade March 1st, if this pics up devs than I may get it rather than evo or epic
I really don't imagine there wouldn't be a good dev scene for it, after all, it IS a HTC device, plus it is a CDMA G2. Going to be picking up one whenever Sprint tells me I can, ha.

Personally, I believe that getting the evo would be better in the long run. The Evo is a premier phone, the original 4g, where as the Shift is just a crappy replication of the evo. If you REALLY want a physical keyboard go for it. Otherwise Evo all the way.

Well, personal preference. It's a decent size I suppose, I'm just used to the size of my brother's Evo. But the extra screen bezel really bugs me. That's my main drawback.

- 4" 960x540 display
- 1 GB of RAM
- HSPA+ (AT&T's announced that it's entire 3G network was converted to HSPA+, I think the radio is good for 14 Mbps)
- Tegra 2, dual core
- 16 GB of internal storage
- HDMI / Net top box capable
- Front facing cam
- And a beastly 1920 mAh stock battery
The Bionic has .3" bigger display but half the RAM. I also am not sure if it carries the huge battery.

What interested me was the orientation change animation. Some one needs to port that to CM (or whatever ROM you like) ASAP. The quick change with no transition looks so cheap and unsophisticated to me.
I'm sure sprint will have an new Evo-esque phone sooner than late. At&t and Verizon both have basically the incredible hd which is essentially a slightly upgraded Evo. That will probably be the look of the new Evo.
I actually think it will work to Sprints advantage to wait for the hype around Verizon and at&t to die down. I think they will announce some new high end Android phones as well some WebOS devices in the coming months. I'm sure HP will be trying to make some noise.
Patience is a virtue....so they say

Would be nice to get one of their high end phones. I love this Bionic btw. I just got my Evo last November and I love it, but all these new phones just blow it out the water. Going to have to wait a while to get an upgrade too...
i agree however its been pretty much high end phones are as follows, with some exceptions. it seems each vendor has paired up with a service provider, but it looks like that is changing with LTE/wimax getting more focus
Sprint - HTC
Verizon - Motorola
AT&T - Samsung

I just wish the resolution was a bit higher, but i'm not going to complain. Really weird that it will be shipping with Android 2.2 (in Q2 of this year???) Also no mention of it being a 4G phone. And the biggest bummer, it doesn't say anything about it coming stateside
How about you guys, thoughts on the Incredible S?
Ah, you got to it before me. Anyway, the rotating capacitive buttons mean a rotating Rosie, so maybe we can finally see a Sense 2.5 build for the Incredible that's almost native, right? That being said, the picture clearly shows that there isn't an optical trackpad anymore, but I don't think anyone will really miss it.
To be honest its sad to see HTC's lineup. I honestly don't care about dual core, but I don't think they made any of their new phones dual core. Most of them were just barely updated from what they were the previous year. I really like HTC phones, but I think they need to step up their game to keep up with Moto, LG, Samsung, and any others. Their tablet doesn't even have honeycomb.

The recent announcements are hardly their full line up, but exactly what you said, updates of last year, as well as a few low to mid end "gimmick" devices (Facebook button, anyone?). Those are all intended to be global phones. Don't worry, I think we can still expect flagship phones like the Thunderbolt, Inspire 4G, and the much more recently rumored Revolver.(The latter two may be AT&T, don't remember). At least, I hope we can.
We can't expect any of these phones state side anytime soon. It's usually 6-12months before we see any phones that are "NEW".
That has slowly been changing though with carriers state side getting their own designed phones to compete with each other. I'm curious to see if T-mobile will get anything SUPER AWESOME like Sprint and Verizon have been getting. T-Mobiles line of MyTouch phones don't appeal to me design wise and Sense is the only way to go.
The Incredible S specs have Europe/Asia - HSPA: 900/AWS/2100 MHz and that should mean the with AWS it will work with Tmobiles 3G stateside. Looks like I'll be buying unlocked again if that's true. The Incredible S and the Flyer are the only 2 devices that list AWS in the Bands. So I hope it's true.

I say that because that is usually the case. The US always gets phones later then the rest of the world. This is changing somewhat. It used to be a year+ before we saw phones. Our phone tech was always behind that of the world and still is. Look at the HD2. It came out in August/Sept of 09 around the world and when a US carrier got it it was like March/April of 2010. At least the gap is closing and the US now has some phones that the world doesn't but we still miss out on most products and still have to wait for others to reach our shores. Unless you but unlocked of course.
Some are saying that the specs are disapointing for the Incredible S how ever once you use it and compare against the Desire you should be impressed, I am and have both; the Inc S is far superior to the Desire IMHO.
Hi Guys,
I have a question about incredible s internal space. before i had desire hd and its shows 1.07 GB without installing any apps. and it was 1.5GB. now i bought incredible s it also shows 1.06GB internal space without installing any personal apps. and its is 1.1GB by htc. so what is the difference whether its stock rom is small one or it has same 1.5 GB like desire hd.

how is the screen on the incredible s compared to the desire and the desire hd. i have a desire amoled but i purchased a hd and was not impressed with the colours ,it looked washed out.
if it matches the slcd of the 1st desire after they changed from amoled i would be happy to take the plunge.
Hi, im looking to upgrade my hd2 I've been thinking on the sensation but it is rather expensive and the only differences are processer speed, gpu and screen res. Now im wondering how well would this phone cope with future updates is it going to be left behind like the HTC desire. How good is the CPU /gpu and can it run intense graphic games well?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda premium
If you need processing power for ... Idk what you need more than a single core 1ghz for, go for it. If you game, go for it. If you do heavy heavy multitasking, go for it.
The screen on the inc s is better, though it has lower res.
I've had the o2x and atrix and haven't noticed any speed issues.
Dual core doesn't show until you need it to. If you don't need it, save the money and get this. It's still great. People live without phone upgrades for years, I think you'll be fine.
From previous experience, if your debating its probably a sign that dual core is too much power haha

Hmm this is really tempting me, has anyone had a 4.3 in phone and if so is there much noticeable difference in screen size? Also how large is the dev community for the device?

I am thinking about buying Htc Sensation. The cons is that angle views for this device are poor. Incredible S has really great display. You may check YouTube for IS x Sensation display comparison.

It is an awesome phone imo....
I got a great trade on this (x10 for this lol), and don't really feel the need for a dual core phone.
If you are getting this on contract I would say to go for the sgs2, but if you're just purchasing a new phone, for the price I think this is the best single core phone you can get right now.
The screen is amazing, the ui extremely smooth and responsive, good battery life, etc....
Also had a lg O2X. Like the HTC incredible S much more. A better phone in all aspects besides the build quality. Had an HTC desire hd also and the screen size is to big for me.
Dual core is just a nice to have and updates can always be replaced by custom roms.
So unless you definitely want the newest hardware I would say the incredible S is the best price quality out now..

It's a pretty old processor and gpu though it runs extremely well.
Who knows really, only time will tell.

I just bought my IS in the CPW sale for £269, I traded in my Desire which originally cost me £400 just over a year ago, so I actually parted with an extra £143. You loose a lot of money on 1 year old phones.
Sure, I would have liked either a HTC Sensation or perhaps a Samsung Galaxy S II, but owning the latest/fastest gadget is an expensive pastime.
I decided on the IS because it has bags of app space, extra ram, a nice sized screen and good build quality.
However, I'm actually on my 2nd IS within 3 days, my O2 phone signal appears to fluctuate quite badly and sometimes vanishes completely, not good! A phone exchange was my first option but that doesn't appear to have helped, so now I'm waiting for my new sim card to activate to see if that cures the problem.

ive never owned a 4.3" device but i would definitely say from playing with both in the shop that the extra bulk of a 4.3" phone is WAY more noticeable than the actual increase in screen size.
inc s is a great phone and a lot of nice dev work going on

I got my Incredible S a few weeks ago and I don't regret it at all. All the mods I needed were available. It now runs super smooth and does everything I could ever want it to do!

I admit, i'm an htc fanboy for many years. Heck, this website was born from an htc device. I am waiting on the note 3 as a secondary device (to mount in the car and use as a general tablet like device while keeping my one as my main handset due to size). If htc would make something like the note, 6- 6.5 inch screen etc., i'd be all over it. I'm starting this thread as sort of a petition for such a device. I'd also value any opinions but please keep it constructive. As soon as this becomes a "my samsung beats your htc beats your iphone beats your nexus" discussion, it will be closed by moderators and rightfully so. Try to keep it positive and see how many votes we can get FOR such a device. If you hate htc, buy a samsung and have a fabulous day!

I am a galaxy note user and thinking about my next device too. I would love to see a bigger HTC One, even though Note 3 will be overwhelming, I guess. The One is just amazing. And a newer HTC One multimedia giant with nice speakers 'sounds' even better ...
For me, it will depend mainly on design (hopefully no plastic-based Note 3) and if HTC can imitate nice features like multi window or air view (or/and build up other ones).

There are rumours all over the internet about a so-called "HTC One Max" - a 6" version of the One. I can't think of any better middle-ground between phone and tablet as I think the HTC One is a truly gorgeous device. Now if they make a tablet that is similar then I'll wee in my pants, change them and go to the shop to purchase it immediately.

Like I said, it's all rumours at the minute, but here's an article...

I'm sure they are but if there are rumors, there's a possible market for it. It seems like a risk for them right now but if the one is bringing them back , and i hope it is, they may get back in the game. They're getting atention with the one. Pa 3+ is being officially released on it soon. Do you by chance remember the htc advantage?

I don't care what they call it, with snapdragon 800 and an sd slot i'm in. It does appear they've been working on a phablet regardless.

It needs to have:
- 32GB or above MicroSD!!! If not then never mind.
- Full HD (no more halfwitted 720/800 junk. Enough with the 2001 graphics.)
- Snapdragon 800
- Pen support. It's hard to beat the Wacom-supported Spen.
- 3GB or more RAM.
For me to consider it over the Note 3. The HTC One was never a serious contender for me, because 90% of the time I do not have an active WiFi connection, and I need the large extended storage space. (You try doing 6 hours a day by train without a large pack of decent film to watch.)

I admit it was tough for me to go with a32g device. I worked it out though as I'm still using the evo lte in the car for media nav hands freedialing texting etc. That's where the phablet's going whether htc or Samsung. As long as it has a card slot 16 gig is not a problem for me. 2 meg ram is more than enough on the one but more would still be fantastic. That's where the real performance improvements come in. I'll trade 4 extra cores for a gig of ram any day.

No removable battery?
No external sdcard support?
Locked bootloader?
Thanks...but....No thanks.
I'll stick with my S3 and S4 and look into the S5 when it comes out.
(Yes, the ATT and VZW variants of the S4 have locked bootloaders....I'm on T-Mobile...doesn't affect me (regardless of what my sig says ))

Most phones come with locked bootloader. Anyhow this isn't a comparison of the one and s3/4. I'm looking for people who WANT an htc phablet the rumors of which imply a removable micro sd fyi.

Not comparing. Simply saying "no more HTC"
(This coming from someone that owned MANY HTC devices)
