Whenver I'm charging via wall charger or USB my captivate is super duper SLOOOWWW. It takes forever to switch screens, the keyboard doesn't function correctly, and my bluetooth won't sync. As soon as I disconnect the charge everything is back to normal.
Any ideas?

Ive noticed it charges slowly but I have not noticed it being slow while charging.
The theoretical output of the charger is .7 amps, and thats not very much in the smartphone world these days. When I am using it and it is plugged in, it charges roughly a percent every eight minutes. The .7 amps must be just enough to cover the phone being on and in use.
I am currently looking around for chargers in the 1 amp range. My old tilt 2 charger works great for that and i definitely saw a charge time improvement. I would love to have one with a greater than 1amp output but I dont think you can find them anywhere
Are you running SetCPU with set profiles ?
If Yes : that is the problem , adjust profile.
If Not : must be something else, not a common behavior.
I read this on another forum but someone mentioned changing the default usb setting from Kies to something something else may help.

As long as the output is 5 volts, you're o.k.
My captivate runs the same while charging but the actual process of charging the phone takes forever it seems. I've only had it a couple days now and I have to get used to killing some tasks while charging because I actually think the battery life was decreasing as it charged.
Incidentally, the display is the real killer on the battery...most tasks don't really eat as much battery life in comparison.
Recent Nokia chargers will work with a slight mod to the plug where it fits the phone,
After Pimping out my phone it works fine while charging now. Yea screen eats up like 82% of batteries resources...OUCH!
Just search for Motorola P513 on Amazon. Rapid rate car charger! And, belive me, it's perfect fit! Now on sale for $5.85 (was $29.99).

I agree with the device charging slowly (but then again it doesn't help that I'm using it while it charges) but I have not had any performance issues.

for those of you who have a old iphone/ipod touch charger block, use that instead.
its rated for 5V/1A output, higher than the 5V/.7A output on the default samsung charging block.
that should charge the phone much faster
I have the same issue with charging, no matter what charger I use (iPhone, Tilt, USB), it's all VERY painfully slow. I've been as high as 1% per 6 minutes (rare - when using Nokia charger (1.2A I believe) to 1% per 13 minutes via USB.
I'm thinking it might be something internal to the actual phone. The iPhone didn't take this long even with USB charging through a computer or LCD monitor. Heck, the iPhone on average was 90 seconds per 1% of battery. I could have a nearly dead phone and be fully charged and ready in less than an hour and a half.
Anyone else think the same?
yea i think it might be something related to the phone indeed. this is, in my opinion, the biggest problem. i'm always on the go and i depend on my phone so much that if it doesn't charge fast enough i'm screwed.
let me make a post in the galaxy s forum and see if there's battery charging problems
Everyone else is charging.

which thread is that? I'm curious to track that one as well. I have gotten 4 other people to purchase the Captivate from the iPhone and we are all on the same boat..even with a 1.2A charger from my N97 (which only lasted 3 weeks with me...but can't wait for the N8), it takes about 4 hours to charge the battery...something's wrong there. It shouldn't take less to drain the battery than to charge it!
As the title. Oddly the streak will be powered by it when the battery is removed (it shows the "battery missing" screen.
The battery I have is a third-party Chinese thing I got from the amazon market. It seems to do the job for other handsets I have (HTC Raph, Couple of nokia handset)
Is there anything I can do to make it work?
The USB input on the Streak requires 1000ma @5v to charge so many of the chargers on the market won't work. I just picked up a Just Mobile Gum Pro 4400mA from Amazon and it seems to work fine. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet other than to make sure the Streak shows "charging" when it's plugged in.
Here's a link.

Thanks for your info. Would appreciate if you could post your findings later.

Phjnky, have you tested it further? How long does it take to charge the streak and how many charges can you get out of this?
Does anyone else has any external battery to recommend?
Found Duracell CEF23-UK on amazon which seems like a very good idea. But it only output at 1.4v, 360mha which is useless for the streak. Does anyone know anything similar that can charge the streak?
The mobile gum pro works really well. Went on a trip and used it to power and recharge the streak. I dont recall but it seemed to recharge maybe twice from around 25% or so. It does charge rapidly about like the wall charger but I was using gogo inflight Internet and listening to Pandora, reading blogs etc while it charged. It kept the Streak going all day while on two long flights. I never fully ran it out of juice but got down to one bar.

sounds good. Might get one.
Hi all,
I also have this problem, after power off streak, i discover third party band name "MOMAX" look like charging but if i press power button once time haven't charging screen show on streak screen, only genuine powersupply or charging with pc on usb can do this job, would you have any advise ? because i can't find genuine battery in hong kong, thanks a lot
I had an issue with my phone before and basically put it down the battery being messed up. Then I got a new battery via Amazon and left that to charge. I woke up at 4am and saw it was still charging (orange light). I put that down to initial charge. Woke up at 9am and the phone is completely dead. It won't turn on at all. Can't get any signs of life from it. What is going on? HELP?!
CM 7.2 RC3
Is it possible the problem is down to the micro usb port and is there any way to confirm this?
You'll need an external charger to charge your battery to test the problem.
Also if it is the USB port its easy to fix. 6 screws to remove than you can buy a new port and install it yourself it attaches via ribbon cable.

Would you by any chance happen to know of the name/model of an external charger. A quick browse and all I seem to be able to find is portable ones.
I had a similar issue, does the back of the phone feel very hot when it's charching and being used?
With me, the mainboard was fried, and was pulling too high a voltage from the battery, which ruined it.

Not too sure, your probably going to have to use eBay or a Chinese distribution cell phone site.

Nope, not getting any heat or anything when charging for that matter. Other than the flashing orange light on occasion.

Thanks, have found a couple. Probably worth a try. I think I'll grab one. Probably S-On and attempt to send it off, if not, I'll just replace the micro USB port myself.
Something that has been bugging me since I got this phone, is that neither the charger that came with it, nor the Verizon car charger they sold me, plug fully into the device.
Is anyone else's like this? Or did I get a factory defect?

Might need to see photos to understand what you're talking about, but I've never seen a Micro USB (Or Mini USB for that matter) Plug fully into anything.
This is fully inserted:
For a comparison, here is the same charger plugged into my old S4:
lol.. seriously? does it charge? if yes, does it really matter to you how much it goes in? why? just so you know, its about the same on my n6. maybe mine goes in a tiny bit more..

Yes, seriously.
Once I plug it in, I cannot touch or move the phone. If I do, the charger pops out. In the car, any bump/pothole/hard turn/whatever, will cause the charger to pop out. And it is extremely annoying.

same with mine. when a chord is brand new, itll hold for two weeks or so, but eventually it starts popping out. i do have chords that hold better than others, but itll still happen. it used to bug me, but doesnt anymore, at all. it just seems as something wears down with time. but, it never did go into the phone all the way, but used to hold well regardless. honestly, i don't think that those two affects are related.
Oh well, guess I just have to deal with it.
Mine goes in to the same level, but is fairly secure unless I'm using a questionable USB cable.

Yeah, see mine are not secure at all. Even when they were new, they would pop out very easily. And they are both good quality chargers, so I don't know what the problem is
So I was using my phone and was running low on battery power. My ended up dying at like 5% as usual with my droid turbo. I was with my friend in his girlfriends car and plugged it into her cheap charger she picked up at a gas station or something. My phone registered the charger and then began the battery symbol like usual although it never got to the battery percentage, it just stayed as a gray battery symbol with the lightning bolt. After a while the phone screen went black and wouldn't respond to anything and figured that the charger just made the phone go dead and that I could plug it into a Verizon charger to make it work again. When I got home I plugged it in and nothing, no response at all not even the green light at the top of the phone. I plugged it into my computer and it shows up on device manager as QHSUSB_BULK. Now to be clear my phone was never rooted or had anything done to it. The phone was completely stock. I need help frantically because I need to get some media off of the phone if at all possible, whatever the cost. Not sure if just letting it charge for a while will help or not. Thanks for the help in advance.
If you plug it into your home charger it should turn on at least and show the battery symbol when charging and it should go up if you haven't tried it already. If it doesn't, sounds like some kind of charging issue.

The phone doesnt respond at all to any commands. The green light doesn't even pop up as if thebphone was clear dead. Took it to Verizon they thought the battery might be fried which I guess would keep the phone from turning on.
That is entirely possible. When I buy after market chargers, I generally only buy anker stuff. I've never had a problem with their stuff. Get what you pay for. Not that you bought that but yeah.

Yeah I definitely learned a lesson. Is there any way I can get the data off of it though? Would Motorola recover the data for me or is there some way? The data should all still be there considering there were no deletion processes. Of course maybe im wrong but I just hope I can get everything recovered.
It's possible if it will connect to your computer and you can read it but otherwise I'm not sure
Assuming the charging port is damaged you could try a wireless charger.

Well like I said the computer can read it, but thats all it can do. It recognizes it as being plugged in but cant do anything else.

If you try a Qi wireless charger, that would give it the chance to actually charge. Maybe some circuitry in the USB port is damaged and it's not receiving a charge. You actually have the phone, so you know better. But wouldn't hurt to go to a store and try putting it on a Qi charger for a few minutes as a test. When my phone is OFF and I put it on a Qi charger, it actually turns it on, boots the phone.
That is definitely a thing to try. If your computer can read it then you can easily save the files off the phone.
I'll have to give that QI a try. People st Verizon probably didn't even think of that.
How would I go about getting the data off of it though? The phone doesnt show up on computer just shows up in device manager under the code I wrote in the first post.

One step at a time. If it will charge normally with Qi and boot, then it once booted it might show up as device on PC.

I tried the QI charger and it did not work. Thr light on the Verizon pad flashed red. Thr battery has got to be fried. So im not exactly sure what to do next.
Well, you can always get a new one through insurance or through swappa. I get that it's the stuff you want to save though. Might not be able to if your computer can't see it as a SD card unfortunately.

Well the way I look at it there's always other phones but not memories. So if worse comes to worse I'll just tear the phone apart and find the internal storage.

So there's no way you guys can think of to get this data off? I could use all the help I can get
Even if you tore yours apart and found the memory chip, it's soldered onto the board. I know because I've opened my turbo to do repairs and it's not hard but not easy. Maybe, just maybe, if you had the sophisticated equipment you could apply the proper voltage to be able to read the card, assuming you could find the + and - pins on it and then also the transmit pins on it and solder yourself a usb cable to direct connect to it to the computer, that might work but would be extremely complicated. I'm a professional electronics technician and I test, build, and repair boards but not phones. I do surface mount work though. Anyways, got off topic. So unless you got that going for you, I don't see it happening.
One last thought, do you have Motorola drivers installed on your PC? Could help. Don't know.

There are youtube guides out there on how to replace the battery in this phone. It's not easy, but it's probably easier than finding the storage chip and figuring out a way to build a new physical interface to access it. New battery = resurrected phone = get your data back. Maybe.
https://youtu.be/VHFkTgjWzOo
Yeah that's also probably a lot easier than all that. The battery isn't too hard to replace. I totally over thought that.
