I have the Galaxy S I9000
If I turn on the Wifi and its got a signal, will that take over from my Network usage on the broadband.
I only download emails to my phone (7 Accounts) but this month my Usage has been very high.
Normally each month reads 830Mb/1GB (Mb's left/Allowance) Give or take 50Mb
This month it was 131.33Mb/1Gb
I don't know where the usage has gone as I'm doing nothing different then before.
Most of my usage is 5-30 Kb with the odd 600 Kb
I checked my data usage over 4 days and its averaging about 2.8Mb a day. I can't see how I have used almost 1Gb for a month.
The only things added to the phone in the last month was Amazon Kindle/Xbox Live and PowerAMP
When I download a book from Amazon I always turn on my WiFi and have 3-4 bars.
Is my phone using my Network Data usage even though I have the WiFi on.
PS my wife has 1 email address on her phone and see never uses her data for anything other then checking her Gmail. She only had 17 simple text emails last month and here usage was also reading 133.78Mb/1Gb. I can't see how she has used up her quota for the month.
Both phone are on separate accounts and connected to the METEOR IRELAND network.
If I turn on the Wifi and its got a signal, will that take over from my Network usage on the broadband.
Not unless you turn the mobile data OFF >. suggest quick settings from the market .
I only download emails to my phone (7 Accounts) but this month my Usage has been very high.
Smartphone is data always on and background sync and apps use data 24 hours .
Unless turned off >. Quick settings mobile data off unless needed .

I installed Quick Settings and turned off mobile data but left on MMS data.
Thanks for the help with this. It means that I can now disable mobile data quickly when I'm in a wifi hot spot.
Because everything loads quickly when my WiFi is on (A lot quicker then when its off) I assumed it was not using mobile data at all. Silly me
Just carried out a little test on the phone using Quick Settings.
I turned off WiFi and enabled mobile data, I then turned on WiFi and the Mobile Data automatically disconnected when the WiFi was enabled.
I'm not sure if it always did this or if its only since in installed quick settings.
If Mobile Data does not switch off then in quick settings you can use Mobile Data APN as the preferred setting for on /off .
I am using Auto Wifi toggle with quick settings to aid battery life .

I cant explain your problem, but I use a program called Tasker that might solve your issue.
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/
I have it set to turn on 3G when I unlock the screen and turn it off again when the screen turns off. I also turn on 3G for two minutes every 30 minutes and auto-sync my email.
With this program you can also set you WiFi to turn on based on your location and a host of other things. There is a 7 day trial in the Market.
I installed 3G watchdog about a month ago and I have been keeping an eye on my data usage.
Since the month started I have only used about 10mb. This its consistent with every other month since I got the phone.
I think the high usage last month was a network issue. Its something I'm going to have to keep an eye on as I don't want the buggers charging me for something I haven't used.

is there any way it can help my tilt from preventing battery drained..it was fulled charged at 11 pm (only instant message was still running but no messages), woke up at 9am and theres only 53% battery left. i barely listening to music but when i do it killed faster.
changing radio can change the rate of battery drain
What type of Messaging were you running? What program? Some keep a continual data connection & if you're in 3G territory that can easily account for that battery drain.
I used to leave HSDPA on and auto check email every 10 mins, my battery only last more than a day even without any phone call in this time. I was then disabled the 3G + HSDPA, just leave the GSM on (changed this in the phone's band), my battery now last about 4 days and still have some power.
Your data connection kills your battery severely, this may be what caused your battery drain 50% over night.
my 3G is always on. I have internet and everything. does 3G interfering my internet connection?
u can get very good battery life when 3G service is deactivated.
also make sure disable wifi, make sure when not in use no application will auto on the wifi...
make sure device lock is set to lock all buttons.

what does HSDPA do? i turned off 3G already. i pay unlimited monthly internet so are those things that i turned off interfering anything from it? i Disable HSDPA already and my internet still connecting. sorry for many questions but im pretty new at this tilt.
Just make sure the icon and or mobile operator name has no 3G indication. Yes u still can get connected via internet, which is through your GPRS, which online activates when as you wish. 3G is passive mode whereas GPRS is dynamic.
My AT&T Samsung Captivate has 20 to 30 MB data usage per day recently (without using Google maps or web browsing or tethering or streaming). Last time I thought it was due to Google maps, so I stopped using it. But I still have mysterious huge data transfer after I stopped using it. It will easily consume all of the 2GB cap for a month. I checked the daily usage from AT&T web site and knew that these huge data transfer happened very soon after I cut off my wifi and started to use 3G. My wifi setting is "never sleep". I use K9 email mostly, but I think I don't have that much email (20 to 30 perday, mostly no attachments) to cause this problem. My phone is rooted with very minimum modifications. I did have Market Access installed, and I am not sure if the turning on of Market Access to emulate the T-Mobile caused this problem. When the T-Mobile emulation by Market Access is turned on, I can see that the APN has been changed from AT&T to T-Mobile. I have to turn on the Background Data Sync for K9 email to sync at constant intervals.
Does any other person have similar problems? Are there anything I can do to find out which applications/services did this? Does Android has some kind of firewall to detect, identify, and stop these unauthorized data transfer?
Here is the link to similar problems in iPhone user.

There is a thread here, somewhere......someone had the same issue, and they called AT&T.....they stated that their issue was random 20-30 MB use overnight and Customer service said it was normal.
Hello fellow XDA's,
I've found a way to save the battery in CM7 in a huge way. You must have CM7 for this (maybe Miui will work also, but I can't guarantee that). This enables the 2G Only setting automatically when the phone is asleep to save battery and when you wake up the phone, it will automatically (or manually, you can choose this) turn back to 3G.
1. Go to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739530
2. Download: Toggle2G-Update.zip
3. Install Toggle2G-Update.zip through recovery
4. Open the app and turn on the following options:
- Auto Manage 2G/3G
- Manually Activate 3G
- Activate with Notification
- 2G when sleep
- Sleep delay, set to 2 minutes
- 2G when low battery
- Battery Level: set to 20% (you can choose the % level yourself)
- 2G when wifi enabled
- 2G Network, set to GSM Only
- 3G Network, set to WCDMA preferred
- I choose manually activate 3G, because sometimes I Just want to check notifications or the time and I don't want my phone to switch to 3G every time I wake it. I think that will eat battery life.
- I choose Activate with Notification because I want to be able to switch to 3G "on the fly" (without going through the settings) when I need 3G.
- I choose 2G when wifi enabled because it is useless to have a 3G connection (for your calls/text) when wifi is enabled, 2G is good enough for that.
These are the settings I've made for my O2X and it looks like it is working wonders. After 18h, 6m, 36s my battery level is 42%. So I guess I could make it to around 34-35h till the battery dies. I've made a few calls (about 15-20 min), about 20-30 text/whatsapp, checked Sygic a few times (to see if GPS was getting a fix), some browsing (5-10) min and updated a few apps from the market. (browsing and updatings apps was with wifi enabled, about 10-15 minutes)
I'm using CM Nighlty#101 with BB/Ril 0725.
Testing it out right now. Seems like an alternative to Juice Defender.
When i am in 2G, data is off as well?Mine seems off.
sorry but can't use this trick.. My operator is 3, so 3G is the standard network. When selecting 2G, no network is found (--> no service)

For me data is on with 2g. For example: whatsapp messages (which needs data connection) are coming through

They used to fall back on Orange 2G, until they decided to shaft us customers in poor signal areas & save some money by canceling the network sharing. So I took my money elsewhere.
Great find! I installed this and everything went smoothly. I then went through and applied the settings exactly as you recommended. Only problem is, nothing happens. Zip, zelch, nada. I've left the phone laying for 30 minutes, picked it up and discovered it never even went to 2g at any time. This is just an idea, but perhaps my 2G and 3G network settings at the bottom are off. I'm in the U.S. with a Droid 1. Any ideas?
is it working for all cm7 nightly?
this is great, thanks!
Wi-fi (always on) + 3g drains 1% per hour for me. Under 2% per hour with 3g and data controlled by JuiceDefender, no wi-fi. Not sure what more you could want for idle power drain.
I just started a new data period and ATT says I already have used 1.15GB of data. According to my usage manager on my Samsung Galaxy S5, I have used 15.78MB. I have used the WiFi though.
What is happening and how can I fix it?
Usage manager is not always accurate (says so right on the settings page) as you may not have your billing cycle set correctly, or the apps you're using may not report right etc.
You can get an accurate read on your usage by dialing *data# or by installing the Myatt app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.att.myWireless
The app also allows you turn turn data off on each of your lines individually if you really want to be sure...

It still is weird that in a day after starting my cycle it climbs to a gig with me only being disconnected from WiFi for about 2 hours. Also I am connected to WiFi now and it is climbing to 1.5 gb.
I have a Galaxy Note with 4.0.4 rooted. Life mobile (EE)
I have a 1gb data plan, I have had a problem with this for the last 4 months, I only use my data plan when away from home and no access to wifi, but all other times i turn it OFF, but lately at 2400hr or 0:00hr midnight something turns on my data plan and upload/download data, no way of telling large amounts of data sometimes as big as 199mg at one time..
I have gone through 1gb of data within 1wk of limited data use, facebook, mail, whatsapp, most of the time using Wifi.
It seem i am not the only one this is happening to (check your data usage via your provider phone account),there are many cases on the internet, but no one has found the real reason,a lot has pointed to the sim provider ???
Can someone throw some light on this..
I never knew that Data plan can be automatically be turn on then off by app on a phone...
Data conection always OFF
WiFi when I can get it On
thanks you
I'd guess a rogue app, turning on data
Not sure if this will work as don't have the N7000 in front of me & not even 100% sure "data" will show in Android 6 due to app permission changes in Marshmallow, it might be under device or something.......
Go to settings>apps>gear wheel>app permissions
then look for data permission touch it to see & change which apps have premission to turn data on & off
