Like many others(non-rooted) Nexus one, I rely on using Widget Locker to wake my N1 because sleep/wake button on my N1 doesn't work.(stopped working around 6 months back)
Have read a couple of reviews @ market.android.com that Widget locker currently does not support Gingerbread. Now with Gingerbread update hitting anytime, I am a little concerned and need to find a "working" app to wake my N1 after Gingerbread.
Any thoughts?
If you want to switch on and off you screen, use both screen off and lock and no lock.
(Dev of WidgetLocker)
*Insert rant about Cyanogen Nightlys being unsupported by the Cyanogen team but Market commenters complaining to app devs if something doesn't work on such*
I got the Nexus S the day it came out and tested WidgetLocker 1.2.8.1 on it. If something was seriously broken I would've released a small 1.2.8.2 update that day or soon after. Everything worked fine. Since then, the Nexus S/Gingerbread have been one of my primary testing platforms for the coming (big) update. (Don't worry, I haven't forgotten my Nexus One, I've been testing on that too).
I've received a small handful of emails from people suggesting issues due to Gingerbread and/or Nightly-roms-that-aren't-supported-by-their-own-developers but none has actually been at all related to Gingerbread. Most bugs reports I get are related to settings or third-party apps and relatively easy to resolve.
Thanks for the update. Hopefully as you indicated we won't have an issue when Gingerbread is rolled out.

Trackball wake does not seem to work on stock Nexus One Gingerbread. I'm still looking into it, but wanted to let you know.
It is possible that no third-party-application, such as WidgetLocker, will be able to enable trackball wake. It may have to be done at the rom/kernel level in which case unrooted Gingerbread on the Nexus One will not be able to have trackball wake.
The volume keys DO work with Easy Wake Mode to wake the device.

I just tried froyo and it was awesome! But i missed my trackball wakeup too much.
Did anyone else try froyo but revert back to CM until he releases a froyo version and how come?
Just curious and wanted some discussion
I did cause this is just a test release of froyo and is still a little buggy. I'm waiting for the cm version. To flash

Same. Messed with it a few hours and went back to CM5.
I am getting triple the battery life with froyo... sticking with it until CM6.
For trackball wake download no lock.
I for one came from cyanogen and his roms awesome for a 2.1 rom. But its not 2.2. I love flash and can't get that from 2.1. Trackball wake was hive but can use no lock till cyanogen releases a froyo rom. The speed is alot faster imo on froyo 2.2 vs 2.1. Apps open faster and placing widgets on screen opens faster. The capacitive buttons are way more sensitive and the speakers seam louder. APPS TO SD stock is great on so is having memory although on custom ya get those. Just my opinion froyo brings a all alround better experience for me. Only thing I miss from cyanogen is the stock trackball wake ( no lock for now) and full 360 rotation in the browser. Other than that I'm golden. And the reception seems better with this radio ( although you can keep that and go back to 2.1)..
Everything is not for everyone
And I lime the pinch in gallery thing.

Mine lasts longer with more use with Froyo. Will flash CM6 the second it is released !
Got Froyo as soon as the rooted version was out...Just dropped down to CM5.0.7.1 tonight.
- I seriously miss the trackball wake too
- A few games (Asphalt and Super KO Boxing 2) and apps (TuneWiki and MountUSB) are either flaky/unstable or flatout don't run
- Since having Froyo, I've had to reboot the phone at least 4 times due to touchscreen calibration going completely out of whack.
- Overall it's definitely fast, but there were definitely hiccups/lags here and there that weren't big deals on their own, but the accumulation of them got annoying.
I've tried JIT out before on eclair and Froyo (while definitely much more stable) feels like it's still got some of the JIT quirkiness.
I'll likely give it another go as soon the rooted official froyo is out...But I'm definitely chomping at the bit for CM6 action!
got a question come to my mine, those having Froyo issue did them wipe all before install?
I find the Froyo is damn stable and no such mentioning issue.
Asphalt run perfectly.
Running perfectly smooth.
Trackball Wake? - just use lockbot pro and you have trackball wake and lockscreen customization.
Battery life guarantee better than any previous Eclair ROM, this include CM ROM as well.
No touch screen alignment issue.
No radio issue.
* Everything is perfect, the only I miss now is 7 home screen, hope CM can increase to 7 home screen by using the default launcher. I also miss the color changes of status bar clock and notification font. Another wish CM implement this function as in CM 5.0.7.1 in coming CM 6.0
I updated to Froyo and changed back to CM within a couple of days. The reason for it is right now I am travelling in Asia and using wired LAN connections to my laptop. Then using a program called connetifyme that uses the laptops wireless to share the wireless lan connection over an adhoc connection. Froyo would not connect to ad-hoc, but CM does.
Once home next week I'll put Froyo back on again.

The battery life in froyo is an improvement.
Battery life opinions are useless unless you have at least some data to back it up.
For example, I used to get around 16-18 hours a day before I had to charge. Now, I can usually last almost 20 hours.
i would also miss the black notification bar from cyanogen as well. can froyo be updated with metamorph to use the desire notification bar? that's another thing i want to update to froyo and maybe switch between cm5.0.7 and froyo, but would like desire black bar in froyo as well.
Lately I've been using the latest CM6 test 8 Rom and have encountered a few problems. The kernel Koush is using is a pretty fast one with minimal power usage but I believe this has also contributed to overheating. While on other stock or stable roms this rarely occurs de my phone, but now when my phone is even idle, the overall heat radiating from it is not usual. Is anyone else having these issues? I must give Koush props for the camera fix, it is nice work for a test rom and I look forward to an upcoming camera fix. I have also noticed that on this Rom that I can not install certain apps. I have cleared my market cache and have done all I can think of to install the apps successfully. I have also noticed using the track pad to wake the phone is spotty. To me this is expected, for some reason even using this feature on other roms or lock screens is spotty too. I find that holding the track pad down for 5 seconds seems to wake the phone when the feature is enabled. I was also wondering about the notifications. Is it possible to get this feature available? Although this is a pre release, I admire the coding and work Koush did to get this Rom up when the people wanted it.

There is a thread dedicated to CM6 bugs here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=722478
You'll probably get more help there b/c that's where the CM6 users are hanging out.
I've never rooted my phone but am about to receive my third nexus one because of power button failure and I don't want to do it again. I watched some Nexus One development video where they were using a machine to depress the trackball thousands of times, to simulate lifetime use and test for failure. I guess they didn't test the power button.
Any suggestions on a ROM similar to stock but that has wake on trackball press? I was looking at cyanogenmod.
It seems like there should be an app for this, but I noticed an enhancement request on Google code, I guess that ability was removed in 2.3.3.
I am currently using anyunlock to wake my phone with the volume button but am not really a fan. I don't want to adjust the volume and it replaces the lock screen.
Thanks a lot.

CyanogenMod is one of the best alternative ROMs out there. All the features of stock with a ton more added (along with bugfixes).

agreed with cm7 (if you prefer the normal stock look) I personally don't like all that sense / miui stuff. now that the big bugs are fixed, i don't see why you shouldn't give it a try.
cyanogen 7 really is easily the best option. and with the newest battery increases and optimizations, its a no brainer to use cm7 over stock.
Running Kang-o-rama-1.2 . . . . It's just CM7, kind of.
Loaded it last night and seems to be the best so far. The least amount of lost MMS compared to regular CM7.

There were issues with MMS messages in the nightlies due to a merging conflict when they merged to the 2.3.4. This has been resolved for the last couple of weeks.
I'm not sure if that is what you were talking about.
How much free memory do you have on your phone?
Captivate Roms addressing proximity issues.
I recently bought a Captivate for my girl on ATT. I'm a themer and developer for the Nexus S and have been the same on the Epic. The proximity issues are killing me (technically her but since I bought the phone, it's my problem now). I flashed cognition on it and everything worked out I even ported one of my Epic themes for her since she wanted a pink phone but she is pretty upset that while on call she keeps hitting buttons. I read that CM6 Patched this in the phone.apk so I have two questions. First off can I just replace phone.apk with the patched one for CM6 or is there any other rom out there that addresses this issue? I have no interest in side loading an i9000 rom to get cm6 on there cause if anything goes wrong she won't have a phone until we connect again. We work different hours and live in separate houses so we don't see each other that much so I don't have that much time to actually trouble shoot the phone I need to flash it with something stable and let her run with it. Any advice will be appreciated. She is coming over tomorrow and then after that it might be a week or two before she returns so I really hope to rid this once and for all before she leaves tomorrow afternoon. Thank you ahead of time.
It sounds to me like the sensor isn't working. Why not hit the power button when calling someone, Shouldn't that turn off the screen, there for not press any buttons?
Even when she hits home to leave the dialer then locks the phone, it wakes itself, it's very strange. It does go black then it comes back on when she moves around but the auto rotation if off

Don't know. Does it do it in stock JF6 or KB1? (careful on build number don't flash JF6 on a newer build) If it does it on stock sounds like faulty phone. I've never had my phone do that and I've ran Cog 4.x.x and Cog 5 (since Beta 2 to V2) and never had that issue before.
Yeah it does it on the stock phone. I'll have it in my hands in the am to test more chances are we will have to return it to stock but not sure if at&t will fix it or replace it her aunt updated to it about 3 months back and sold it to me last week.

Check the Build number if it doesn't have a year ATT should replace with samsung warranty.
Good morning, and thank you for your responses, I'll be bringing the phone in today.

Hi folks,
Apologies if this question has been asked on the Bionic forums elsewhere; I did a search and didn't find anyone with an answer.
I've been experimenting with custom ICS ROMs on my Droid Bionic, and of the four I tried, three of them leave me in a situation where my Home button doesn't work. This applies to both the capacitive key on the Bionic bezel as well as the soft key which is native to ICS in phones that don't have capacitive or hard buttons (but can be enabled for the Bionic in custom ROMs).
Let me break down what I mean by "work". When I press or long-press Home, I get the appropriate visual and and haptic feedback as expected. But nothing happens in the OS. I expect it to take me to my home screen from any app; it does not. I expect the capacitive button long-press to bring up the Recents for multi-tasking, and it doesn't. I've assigned different behaviors to the soft key in the launcher, both press and long-press, and none work. All other capacitive and soft keys work just fine, and CM10 on my Iconia A100 doesn't exhibit any home button issue.
Here are the ROMs I tried which exhibited this issue for me:
CyanogenMod 9 (CM9 20120725 build, unofficial)
AOKP (Targa 20120725 Milestone 6 build)
LiquidSmooth MR 2.6 (Jester's JMOD modification of LiquidSmooth v1.5)
Currently I'm running on LiquidSmooth v1.5 MR 1, and it works perfectly. One thing I noticed is that CM9 runs the Trebuchet launcher, and AOKP and the JMOD of LiquidSmooth both run Nova Launcher. Meanwhile, the Liquidsmooth build I'm on is running what looks like LiquidSmooth's own modified Launcher (forgive me as I betray my n00b roots). I can only assume that the launcher is the issue and that perhaps if I just ripped LiquidSmooth's launcher APK I could run/use it in any other ROM, but this is just an assumption. I'm just wondering if anyone else experienced what I did, because from the looks of it I haven't found anyone who has.
Thanks for any insight anyone can provide!
This issue with the Home Button is not Bionic specific. I have had this issue with both Bionic and OG Droid. It has more to do with the OS I believe. I know I've read about this somewhere but I don't remember where. Usually it happens when you upgrade your phone with a custom rom and for some reason it disables the home button. In my case I just reinstall said rom until it works. It's happened a few times with my OG Droid considering I would switch roms always weekly due to the unlocked bootloader. Not so much on the Bionic since it's locked. Waiting for Motorola to release the bootloader unlock for our Bionic...hurry up Motorola or Google...I know I didn't really answer your question but that's my experience.

Even though it wasn't a direct answer I definitely appreciate the insight! It's good to know what's happening out there and I now have some more context around the situation... It's weird because Liquid is really the only one that works for me. I just now tried a CM9 update just for kicks and again the Home button doesn't work. (Using Trebuchet natch.)

I know that the Bionic and the OG Droid are not the only ones who experience this dreaded dead home button issue. It exist in a lot of android phones. You could google it and get a lot of hits on different phones. I know I have the first time I experienced this issue with the OG Droid. Could have something to do with the coding in the roms you are installing and it seems to be a hit and miss. Apparently your phone is picky about which rom it wants you to install lol. Maybe a developer could chime in and explain a bit more? Or someone with a lot more knowledge?
