Just wondering if any Rogers Captivate users had any suggestions on what ROM(s) would be a good choice for a first flash. After a few flub ups with stock AT&T and Rogers fw and a whack of reading, I am stoked to get flashing a custom. Hopin to keep the ROM Rogers based as well to keep the option of reverting back to stock as painless as possible (if that is even an issue). Any general Rogers flashing tips would be appreciated too. Thanks.
The setup I've got in my signature is very snappy with tremendous--no ****--battery life.

You might want to read this, as another option.
I'm using a rogers captivate and have really enjoyed serendipity and firefly. I am near toronto and use the kp1 modem with good results. And running latest speedmod kernel.

Thanks for all the advice folks! I have much more to read about I guess.
In the meantime I think I'll take your advice clem and rock the kernal mod for now. I bunged up an earlier attempt with the AIO prog when trying to revert to stock (I already was stock just froyo, I was a lil too eager). Long n skinny, few flashes later, I'm on jl1 stock rogers from xda where initially I was jl2 (as my girlfriends unmodded captivate shows). So I should be safe to odin supercurios kernel from this point I hope?
Forgot to mention that I was in the process of using oclf but only installed the required libraries and didn't run. Do I need to remove the libs?
Will definitely keep the other ROM suggestions in mind while I whet my whistle on a few basic mods first.
Thanks again guys! I'm stoked!

JS3 is the newest one available. Samfirmware.com is the best place to get stock ROMs.
If you want to put a custom ROM on the phone, look here. This page also has very good how-to's on rooting your phone, flashing your phone, putting CWM recovery on it, etc. Recommended reading.
Each custom ROM will their own instructions for installing them.
Yea thanks knew js3 is latest just waiting for.docs and stefunels kitchen to support it!
I was more asking about the upgrade route to take from jm5 to jpx, did it months ago on my phone but as ive flashed so.many.roms and kernels i cant remember the best route!
Thanks.for the info tho! Gives me summin to read on commute to work lol

Sorry for having to post this in the Q&A section but I believe I require 10 posts before being able to contribute to a development forum thread.
I'm looking to try out Andromeda 1.2 or 2.2 (not sure if I want to go Orange or not) and I came across the Captivate AIO toolbox tool/thread. It looks like the easiest method for putting a custom rom on the Captivate but I had a few questions:
1) It states it's capable of flashing you back to stock; is this truly Rogers stock without the ATT logo or will it put an i897 ATT branded stock in place?
2) It looks like even with the 2.6 version that people are still having issues with using it on the Rogers captivate. Bay_Wolf has suggested using the Odin proper for doing the flashing/master wipe. If that is indeed the requirement, is it Odin 3 or Odin 1 that I need to use for Rogers?
3) There are about 20 modem files to use. Is there a preferred one for Rogers phones?
I've read about a thousand threads and each of them has somewhat conflicting records of what works and what doesn't. I could try some trial and error but this is a work supplied phone that I can't afford to have offline for an extended period of time nor do I want to have an ATT logo flash up on it rendering it un-returnable should there be a problem. Yeah, I want my cake and be able to eat it too. It's a work supplied phone but please don't hold that against me.
I know I'm being a colossal pain/newb but I'm just trying to find a nice summary of info rather than having to scan literally hundreds of pages to find inconsistent reports of what's worked and what hasn't. I'm more than willing to offer to update the Rogers wiki on the phone with the results here so that future idiots such as myself can be pointed to the all answering wiki for this info.
Thanks very very much in advance and sorry for the newbish question.
Figured things out myself.
I used the new v3 AIO toolkit and very easily manage to flash the andromeda rom. However it looks like it's an ATT stock rather than Rogers. I'll have to look at fixing that at some point.

So I just got my replacement phone, and it came stock with the kb1 froyo build. My previous captivates all came with 2.1, various builds, and was able to flash roms easily.
My question is this...is there anything I need to be aware of that's different when flashing with a kb1 build phone? I just don't want to mess anything up and void my warranty for good.
Also, I did a little bit of searching, but does anybody know of a thread with how to flash back to the stock kb1 build in case I need to return my phone again for some reason? If so, a link would be greatly appreciated.
I know these are probably stupid questions, but if you guys can provide some insight without flaming, that would be great.

Does nobody know this? I'm really itching to flash a custom rom, it's been too long since my last one.

Search is your friend. There must be a dozen threads on this. Best bet is to Odin back to stock 2.1 and proceed from there. 2.2 has a different recovery scheme that makes it a little more complicated. Read the sticky in Dev on how to flash a custom ROM.
Hi, I've had my vibrant for quite a while it's been rooted ever since day 1. However I just got got Clockwork Mod working on stock 2.2 KA6. I'm now ready to flash a 2.3or 2.3.4 ROM and I wanted to know how do I go about it. I not sure if I can just flash over the stock 2.2 or not. I also hope I wouldn't have to resort to ODIN, as every one of my last several experiences with it was not good at all. Someone please help me out!
Read the first post of the rom you want to flash. This should answer your questions. You do not need to odin before flashing any gb roms that I am aware of. Just remember you can't go back to froyo without doing odin. (also this belongs in q&a or general). Good luck!

yes u can go from froyo to gb. maybe all of the gb roms that are around explicitly say that u can and how to. it is easy, there are youtube videos on how to do it. About odin, I try to use it every time I change rom, it has never given me any trouble or problem, you just gotta have the right files.
maybe this post should go on another forum though..
only a year old and already so grown up...my my how the time has flown by in the vibrant section. no flaming or "WRONG SECTION" comments...nice work guys
they grow up so fast :'-)
Hello,
I would like to try flashing my rogers captivate to ICS. Nothing fancy just a astable bug free ICS. However I am on 2.3.3. I updated through KIES a while back and now I have no idea how to root my phone or install roms. I am afraid the last time I looked into this everything was very different. I have read the forums but am still a little anxious.
Is it possible to root and then install CWM or something to install roms from my current 2.3.3 version? If so how may I do it?
Any help is greatly appreciated
Christopher
By reading all the stickies and reading some more info, you will be a genius at this stuff by the time you're done...
Yeah thats what I am kinda trying to avoid. I have to hack and read so much already it gets really tiring having to keep up with it all. Add to this work and school and its like info overload. I was hoping there might be an easier way than earning another mini phone phD. Thus far I have determined I have to change my kernel... I think? My phone is unrooted. Stock 2.1 to 2.3.3 KIES.
This Site is mentioned for developing. That being said for the rest of us, we are supposed to learn. The reason it's important to read and understand is you can potentially kill your phone.
