So I got bored at work today and created a boot animation. This is what it looks like GIF. The link to download this boot animation is HERE. Let me know what you guys think of this haha.
Steps to change boot animation:
**Using Root Explorer…**
1. You have to be rooted in order to do this.
2. Download Root Explorer from the market.
3. Download the boot anim: bootanimation.zip (from the link above)
4. If you downloaded via PC, mount your Droid and drop the bootanimation.zip file onto the root of your SD card.
5. Unmount your Droid.
6. Open Root Explorer, tap on “system” then "media" and locate bootanimation.zip.
7. Rename bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zipbak incase you want to revert back. *Make sure you tap on Mount R/W so it changes to Mount R/O before moving any files or renaming.*
8. Go back all the way and select sdcard folder. Locate bootanimation.zip
9. Long press on bootanimation.zip and choose “Move”.
10. Hit the back button once and locate the “system” folder.
11. Tap and open “system” and then “media”.
12. Hit “Paste” which should be an option at the bottom of your screen.
13. Back out of Root Explorer, reboot your phone, and BAM!
14. Enjoy your new new boot animation.
**Using Terminal Emulator…**
1. You have to be rooted in order to do this. Rooting info here and here.
2. Download the Droid Life boot anim: bootanimation.zip (from the link above)
3. Drop the file on the root of your SD card.
4. Open Terminal Emulator and type the following commands:
su
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /system/media/
reboot
5. Your phone should reboot with the Droid Life boot anim!

4. Navigate to /system/media/ and paste bootanimation.zip
5. Reboot the phone
Note:
1. When in Root Explorer you will need to press the "mount r/w" button in the upper right corner of the screen in order to delete or write to the /system/media/ folder.

on my nexus the letter drop animation loops properly (i.e. n-e-g-o-n-a-y-c repeats), but when i installed it on a g1 the animation plays once through and then a black screen appears.

the black screen on [mdpi] and [ldpi] should now be fixed. it seems i just packaged them incorrectly. now all is well ^^
I want to flash my phone but need to back up the EFS folder so my imei does not change. I cannot copy the folder through Root Explorer as when I press copy then paste it does not paste the folder, I;ve also tried SGS tools and a number of other manager and it does not work I also do not understand the ADB or can get it to work to do it please help?
With root explorer, copy and then try to paste it in a folder on your ext sd card.
If you're trying to paste it in the same system folder it won't work because its probably still mount as R/O
Long press the efs folder in Root Explorer.
Scroll a bit down on the menu that opens, select "zip this folder". Stash it on your sd card, and on your PC.

Instructions:
1. Copy the galaxys-efsbackup.zip file to your internal sd card if you haven’t already done so.
2. Turn off your phone, and wait for it to shutdown completely. Then, boot into Recovery Mode. Press and hold Volume-UP + Home + Power at the same time, and let go of the buttons when the screen turns on (and says Galaxy S GT-I9000/I9000M Samsung), to enter Recovery.
3. Then using the volume keys to navigate and the Power button to select, do the following:
1. Select ‘Install zip from sdcard’.
2. Then select ‘choose zip from sdcard’.
3. Now navigate to the file galaxys-efsbackup.zip, then select it.

5. After it is complete, select ‘Go Back’, then select ‘Reboot system’ to reboot your phone.
i chose to start this thread as an educational and informative way of answering simple question so new questions arent repeatedly asked.
first off try to use the search window as much as possible before you post a question, chances aer your question has been asked before, so you will find the answer somewhere.when you do have to post a question be patient, the answer will come either in the form of an informative response or with a link to an informative response.

Root your HTC HERO200 CDMA...
there are many different methods of rooting your device, it depends on your particular device.
they all work you simply have to find the one that works for you. for instance myself i use the regawmod one click method. (thanks regaw) when
i tried to use it on an associates device it didnt work...you have to find the method that works for your device.
youll find the files and programs you need to perform whatever procedure you choose to try on the developers page.
make sure you read the instruction completly before you begin. when you do begin follow the instruction to the letter and you shouldnt have any problem.once again, dont get piussed at the dev because it didnt work, its not that the procedure doesnt work, it just didnt work for you...simply search for another method and try again.and you will succeed.
i was going to post some of the methods but dont have permission from the devs to do so, so for now youll have to search for the precedures yourself. if or when i do get permission ill edit this thread or post the link in order to help yo on your way,,,ehhh for now itll be good practice for using the search window.

How to Root Sprint’s 2.27.651.5 Release for CDMA Hero (Stock Android 2.1)
Note: If you already have the Android SDK and HTC Sync set up on your computer, skip to Step 4 now
Step 1: Download the Android SDK.
Step 2: Extract the Android SDK zip. Move the contents of the extracted zip to C:\
Your Android tools folder path should now be C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
Step 3: Download HTC Sync 2.0.33 here. Run the installer, and reboot your computer when it is finished. Skip to step 4 once rebooted.
Step 4: Download the hero-root.zip. This zip contains everything you need to root your Hero.

You will now push the files needed to gain root to your sdcard in your phone with these following commands one by one:
adb push unrevoked /sdcard
adb push recovery.img /sdcard
adb push boot-patched.zip /sdcard
Now we run the exploit. Be patient, this may take up to 40 seconds.

You should now see output that says this:

Now, on your phone, go to your app tray, and you will see that the Superuser Permissions app is in it, which is only possible on rooted devices.
Open the Superuser Permissions app. You will see a blank screen.

A prompt will appear on your Hero asking you to give /system/bin/sh privileges. Click Allow.
Go back to your command prompt, and you should see

Now Type
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Flashing the recovery may take many seconds to complete. Wait until the # symbol returns to proceed.
You should now see

This means it was a successful flash.
Now type
reboot recovery
Your phone will now boot to the custom recovery image you just flashed. In the Recovery Menu on your phone, choose the option:

Then Select
boot-patched.zip
and press the Home button to apply. Once Recovery says “Install from sdcard complete” select “Reboot system now” from the menu.
Voila!! You now have full root access on HTC Hero 2.1!

both of these methods have worked well for me in the past, im sure one of them WILL work for you

Flashing a ROM (from clockworkMod)
this is the method i use and i "never" have any problems
download the ROM of your choosing and move to the root of your sdcard
follow the devs instruction for installation which should be something like this;
1. do a nandroid backup
2. reboot into recovery
3. wipe data
4. wipe cashe
5. choose advanced, wipe dalvik
***OPTIONAL***
6. choose mounts and storage
7. format system
8. format data
9. formatcashe
10. go back. and choose install zip from sd card
11. choose, choose zip from sd card
12. find the rom you want to flash and choose yes
13. when its through flashing choose install zip from sd card
14. find the gapps you want to flash and choose yes
when its through with the flash the screen will return to the main menu and choose reboot system
the first boot will take a little longer than usual this is normal. setup your google s#@ts as usual and enjoy your new ROM.
follow these instructions and you shouldnt have any problems, if you do, go back to the thread you downloaded from post a reply to report it to the dev so they know theres a problem and they can determine if its a problem with the rom, a problem with the way you flashed or a problem with your system.
15. "ONCE AGAIN" most importantly, be grateful to the devs, at least say thank you and hit the thanks button, and donate if you can.

2. since alot of the themes have a different procedure for installation,"READ AND FOLLOW THE DEVS INSTRUCTIONS"(sorry for the caps)

4.Move, then rename, the recovery.img you downloaded to recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.1-heroc.img.
5.Open RomManager and press Flash ClockworkMod Recovery and reboot the phone to recovery, you should see the orange text.

Change sprint insignia (ON AOSP) to whatever you want
1. Download eri.zip
2. Unzip the file to wherever you please.
3. Right click on eri.xml and choose "Open with Notepad"
4. Once you open the file you will see "Sprint" in the 5th line.
5. Delete Sprint and place whatever you would like in it's place. I believe you have up to 16 spaces to work with if need be.
6. Save the file with an .xml extension. Important: Make sure it is eri.xml and not eri.xml.txt. This will cause issues.
7. Place the eri.xml in your /androidsdk/tools directory.
8. Pull up your Command Promt/Terminal/Etc
9. CD to your /androidsdk/tools directory and:
adb remount
adb push eri.xml /data/eri.xml
adb reboot

I threw together a simple app to change the Carrier Name in the status bar/lockscreen to whatever you want since my alot of people seem to ask how to change it. Feel free to use it. Tested on Incredible and Eris. Dev's feel free to thow it your roms if you want. No ads and free just a simple tool to change the text. Thanks to the great Eris community.
Currently only works for AOSP roms such as cyanogenmod.

While trouble shooting some radio issues on a rom I realized there's no need to reboot the phone to apply the new carrier name. I only needed to cycle the radio so I changed the app to toggle airplane mode on and then back off after you input your text so the change should take place immediately. This should make it a little easier to test and try different things or just change it more often.
I also added some shortcut buttons at the bottom to quickly add the text for the ", < and > signs so you don't have to type it all out. Only tested this with cm7 but should still work with any rom's it worked with before. Again thanks to Psiphon for pointing these symbol fixes out.

This app does one thing. It takes the input text you type and creates and eri.xml file and puts it in data/ folder on your phone. Then you can reboot for change to take effect. You can uninstall the app after you change it if you want or you can leave it on there(it's pretty small) in case you like to switch it every now and then. If you flash a new rom you will have to rerun the app.

1. Make a new folder on desktop called 'Downgrade'
2. Download this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...5&d=1339391278
3. Make a new folder in 'Downgrade' called 'Downgrade Kit'
4. Extract the download into 'Downgrade Kit'
5. Now you should have a folder called 'Downgrade' on your desktop, inside that should be another folder called 'Downgrade Kit', inside that there should be a folder called 'files' and a program called 'runme.cmd'.
6. Make a new folder inside 'Downgrade' called 'RUU'
7. Download this and save it to folder 'RUU': http://www.filefactory.com/file/c0af...308_signed.exe
8. Connect phone to computer, and choose ‘Charge Only’ not ‘Disk Drive’. Enable USB Debugging, and disable Fastboot (If you don’t know how to, ask Dr. Google)
9. Open runme.cmd, it will ask questions! Answer according to your phone not mine! The questions are (If I can remember) i) Do you have root? I answered n. ii) Have you unlocked through htcdev.com? I answered no. iii) Do you want to create a goldcard? I answered y
10. After it successfully completes (if it doesn’t post below) run the RUU in the RUU folder (Remember it erases all data so if you need to, backup everything) , it will take around 10 mins. BE PATIENT!
11. After it installs check if your HBOOT has been downgraded! It should be 1.13.0000!

4. Copy and paste that beta key into a notepad file and save it to the desktop! Beware copy and recheck if it matches
5. Connect phone, choose ‘Charge Only’, enable USB Debugging and disable Fastboot
6. Run revolutionary.exe
7. When it asks you to input beta key, do it!
8. When it asks you whether you want to flash Clockwork Mod Recovery, type y
9. Once it is done, the cmd will close
10. Confirm that you have S – Off in the bootloader!
11. So far so good!
12. Reboot into bootloader if you are not and then open up recovery, it should go to Clockwork Mod Recovery
13. While phone is in Clockwork Mod, connect phone to computer
14. Select Mounts and Storage by using the volume buttons to move and power to select.
15. Then select mount sdcard (the sd card directory should pop up on your computer screen)
16. Download the root .zip file and save it to your computer (do NOT extract it) (http://d-h.st/yzV)
17. Copy the root .zip file to the root of your sdcard and wait for it to transfer (not in any folders, just on the sd card itself).
18. On your device, select unmount sdcard.
19. On your device, select go back.
20. Then select Install zip from sdcard and choose the root .zip file.
21. Wait for it to flash, once done, select reboot system now.
22. Once your device reboots, open the app drawer and you should see Superuser permissions there. If so, you are all set, you are rooted, have S-Off and a custom recovery image.))
However until Section 2 step 15, i am stuck now. i mount my sdcard follwing the instructions, but the sd card directory doesnt pop up on my computer screen. What could be the problem??

solved it. i copy the file manually into the sdcard without using the recovery mod. Thx for ur rply. and sorry for my noob question.

10. After it successfully completes (if it doesn’t post below) run the RUU in the RUU folder (Remember it erases all data so if you need to, backup everything) , it will take around 10 mins. BE PATIENT!
11. After it installs check if your HBOOT has been downgraded! It should be 1.13.0000!

1. Go to (revolutionary.io) and scroll down to hit ‘Downloads for Windows’ (But keep the website open)
2. Download and extract the .zip to a folder
3.Fill in the boxes for the beta key (on the revolutionary website)
You should fill it out like this
Your Operating System: Windows/Linux (Depending on yours)
Your Device: HTC Incredible S
HBOOT Version: 1.13.0000
Serial Number: (Your serial number)

I tried to follow this guide 2-3 times but whenever i run runme.cmd it asks me if i my phone is rooted. I say y and then it gets stuck at "Downgrading". If i disconnect USB, it asks about the gold card but it doesn't get downgraded.

Requirements:
Rooted S5
Safestrap installed
Tested only on G900AUCU1ANCE. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Procedure:
1- Copy the attached framework-res.apk onto the sdcard of your phone.
2- Reboot the phone into safestrap recovery.
3- Tap "Mount" and select "System"
4- Go back to the safestrap home screen
5- Tap "Advanced" and then "File Manager"
6- Navigate to /system/framework and tap on framework-res.apk
7- Rename it to framework-res.apk.bac as you may need this backup copy if things don't work.
8- Navigate to /sdcard and tap on framework-res.apk that you had put there.
9- Copy it into /system/framework
10- Navigate to /system/framework and tap on framework-res.apk
11- Tap on chmod and type in: 0644
12- Go back to the safestrap home screen and reboot.
AT&T tethering limitations are all removed now. If I wasn't lazy I would make a flashable zip for this.
Troubleshooting:
If the phone does not reboot correctly or you get stuck on the reboot screen, reboot back into safestrap, use its file manager to remove framework-res.apk from /system/framework, and then rename framework-res.apk.bac to framework-res.apk to get your system back to the original shape.

Q: Can this brick my phone?
A: Yes, if you do not follow the steps carefully.
Q: Can AT&T still find out that I am tethering?
A: I have no idea. This just allows you to skip the annoying "To enable mobile hotspot ... dial 611" message and activate the tethering. I speculate that AT&T detects you are tethering from your surfing pattern. I use this moderately on my phone and I still haven't been caught.
