Do your Samsung headphones work?

The Samsung headphones that came with my tab do not work. They work a little if I pull the plug out part of the way but not when they are plugged in all the way. All other headphones work.

Are you sure you plugged them ALL THE WAY? If they're 100% in, the gold contact should be barely visible.
I thought they were in all the way but they weren't, had the same problem as you; you may need to push them a little

I think its the way the headphones are made. Ive had that issue, just gotta push a little harder than usual

same mine. more than that....i went back to the shop, and I was very surprised when the sales man, show me what I was supposed to do........try to push a little harder than usually ....

You guys were right, I was not pushing them in all the way. I feel like a dumb ass but thank you all!

at first i thought that the left headphone doesnt work.
later i used them again, pushed a bit harder and the left one works ;-)

same here but not with stock headphones. Replaced them for "ALTEC LANSING Muzx Core" model, didn't push enough and thought they didn't work. good quality price value better than stock

my stock ones worked fine, but the headphones from my n900 didnt work at all =( wierd they seem to have the same 3 contacts i guess there switch around or something..

The stock headset is a big problem for me, it kept on falling out. Maybe I just don't know how to use these headset, I've replaced the soft rubbery thing with a bigger set that came with the headset and still won't stay in my ears. I tried the headset from my iphone and it works as a headphone but the mic doesn't seem to work when making calls. The control seem to be able to pause/play music. The volume control on the apple headset doesn't seem to be able to control the volume though. I need better headsets.

This is the only issue that I had with the stock headphones. The jack is TOO SMALL! I'm having a hard time removing it every time I need to! I'm scared that if I pull it using the cord it'll rip apart.

So far I, and everyone who's played with my Tab have had the same issue with plugging in Headphones. You really have to jam them in there...

I think this is the build of Samsung stuff. I tried Apple headset one day. But the volume keys and the mic did not work. So is the answer button. Anyhow the out of the box headset is far more quality that the iPod ****. However I found out Addidas Schenheiser headset gives the best sound quality. It's like honey to the ears.

Headphone socket

Anyone else having an issue with the headphone socket, when I plug my headphones in and put the phone in my pocket or bag it only takes the slightest knock or me just walking to jar my headphones lose and then the music pauses. I know I could turn the "pause music when headphones disconnected " off but I find it handy and in this case the music would continue to play until I'd opened my bag to plug my headphones back in.
Any tips for me?
I've yet to try a different set of headphones I must admit. I don't have a second set to hand

Yes, exactly the same issue. With some earphones its really bad, with others its a little less bad. I even have two identical sets of headphones, one of which disconnects with the slightest touch of the plug, the other is not quite so bad, but still a pain. Must be a common problem.

its crap, can't believe this wasn't a known issue when the device was being tested. Its go the point I'm thinking of selling the phone and getting something else

Nothing like that here ... Its nice and firm ... Maybe you should get a replacement ...

Are you sure you put your 3,5mm connector deep enough in the socket?
I don't recognize this problem at all, its more the opposite.
Last week I pulled my cx300 out of my phone the connector was still in it, the rubber protection came loose from my cx300, I put it back and haven't managed to do that again.

i don't have this problem either. im using all sorts of headphones and still ok. put it all in. push harder. lol. all headphones work but not the mic. especially the three button ones

maybe its just the excuse I need to buy some new headphones

Use bose earphones... Socket Isn't loose at all.

How terrible is the sound on your NC?

So, music was one of the things I was hoping my NC could do, but haven't had much occasion to try out in the month I've had it. Today I devoted a little time and attention to it:
My only headphones at present are some worn-out Apple earbuds, and I used them once to listen to an audiobook--the only thing I noticed was that the volume was quite low, but otherwise I won't base any impressions on that experience.
Today, however, I decided to compare some music player apps for sound quality, and tried out the NC on three different sound systems in the process:
The Nook Color's speaker.
Lined in to an iPod dock with an unshielded 3.5mm-to-3.5mm cable.
Lined in to a shelf stereo system with a 3.5mm-to-dual-RCA cable.
Okay, the built-in speaker is crap, obviously. It's tiny, points backwards, and there's only one. My cell phone speaker can drown it out, though the sound is marginally better on the NC. It's actually halfway impressive the sound quality they get out of the tiny speaker, but I still couldn't imagine using it for music. It's serviceable for tv shows, but I would probably still pop in earbuds if I had them handy.
Connecting to an outside sound system was what really underwhelmed me. For the two systems I tried, the NC produced drastically lower volume than anything else I've ever plugged into them. At what would be a loud volume for my phone, iPod, or an instrument, the NC's output (at its maximum volume) was barely audible. With the systems cranked to achieve an ambient volume, the sound was tolerable, but washed out in comparison to other sources.
There was also occasional skipping or stuttering in playback, which is really odd considering how well the thing handles video.

Is this consistent with everyone's experience? Is there any difference between stock and CM7 output?
I've seen threads here and there about improving volume and disappointment with output through the headphone jack, but I had no idea. I guess I've been sheltered using iPods and/or at least somewhat music-optimized phones (SE Walkmans), because I did not realize that audio output on a device capable of playing MP3s could be this bad.

the sound on my nook is good, the speaker isnt the best but its decent and audio with my panasonic headphones sound is awesome.
EDIT: i use cm7 and cant remeber much of when it was stock rooted, as that only satisified me for a whole 2 days before i went to nookie froyo then cm7.

I have no idea how sound works on the stock or rooted stock Nook since I put CyanogenMod on my Nook as soon as I got it. The sound seems to work fine on my headphones. I can almost reach the threshold of pain with a few tweaks of the DSP settings.
I do not use the built in speaker for much, but even it is better than nothing.

I'm running phiremod 6.1 on mine. I have found that the volume was inconsistent between versions, but I'm pretty pleased with the current setup. I do however have a different issue, which is related to the headphone jack. When I plug in my headphones, it seems like 75% of the time they don't work quite right. The obvious symptom is that one speaker is noticeably louder than the other, and generally the audio sounds like crap. Unplugging them and plugging them back in a few times will get things back to normal, but its a little annoying. This has been the case on every OS I have run on it.

there are terrible impedance issues with NC. If you buy this:

they will all go away. I know it says it is a "noise" filter, but it fixes impedance too. I own two of them, they keep me from pulling my hair out. Hint: if it doesn't work one way with a certain device, plug it in backwards using a M/F adapter.

i run cm7. using dspmanger... the nook color sounds awesome. I hook it up to my logitech thx speakers and cry.... because it sounds a helluva lot better than the $160 sound card in my pc.
without dspmanage... it sounds like garbage.

I haven't heard the hissing they're talking about so much as a slightly washed-out sound and the crazy low volume. Someone else testing the NC with external speakers found that yes, it was considerably quieter than their Sansa MP3 player and iPod Touch, but the newest Kindle is quieter still.

I've had this issue with my crap Apple earbuds in my iPod before, and rather than yanking them out and jamming them back in, I found turning them in the socket and/or moving them in or out just a couple millimeters let me 'tune' them to where I was getting the best sound from both speakers. I actually found the same thing with my NC lined-in to my iPod dock via 3.5mm male-to-male cord.

Note: My kernel works with both B&N 1.2 Froyo and CM7.

headphone problem

Anyone having problems with the headphones input on their #nexus7 ,depending which headphones I use it seems that will not switch from speaker to headphones.

My headphones needed a bit of force to get them in properly and recognised. I think, maybe they were just not recognised the first couple of time. I'll have another go later, I've only tried once.

If I push to hard, speakers take over. I have to move it for it to play on my earphones. Pretty stuoid . Calling Google today since its my day off.
It has to be just right for it to go through the earphones. Putting it in the jack doesn't cut it because it plays through the speakers. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I WAANT TO WATCH PORN.. LOL

for some reason was not obvious to me, i guess because on my Gnexus don't need to force it that much.

I noticed same thing. So you had to apply more pressure to force it in? I was afraid of breaking the damn thing. I can't get it to recognize any of my headphones but will play out through my lil surround sound system that has a headphone plug. I noticed that the plugs don't seem to go all the way in. I will try to force it in harder..lol.
I need to get some dedicated headphones. Only ones I have are the ones with a built in mic attached. Those won't go in all the way no matter how hard you push. Its likely to break the headphone jack if you keep trying to force them. Ones with mic. attached have 3 rings on the plug. Straight stereo headphones have only 2 rings, which is what I need.

I previously had a droid ultra and it had thr same problem. Im using bose headphones and for some reason they headphones dont plug in all the way. I know the headphones work properly because i use them on my computer and tablet. Do i need to be using a specific headphone jack size. I figured the size the bose headphones came with would be fine. Anyone else having this problem??

Do you mean the plug sticks out above the chassis, or when you plug them in, sound still comes through the speaker and not headphones?
When I plug my Yurbuds into my Moto X there is a very small portion of the gold plug still showing. I think the port is just shallow, but the headphones work fine.

I've had the same issue. I opt not to use it. Bluetooth ftw.

They just don't have as much extra material around it to cover the whole thing. It is a result of the curved edge the jack is on. Works just fine, though, and produces some decent enough sound for a phone.

Yeah my earbuds' jack sticks out a little bit, but the sound itself is okay. Never had an issue with my jack yet.

Make sure there is not lint in the jack. That can cause sound/fitment issues.

Pretty sure everybody else covered it, but mine works fine as well. I do find that you have to give the 3.5mm plug a little extra "push" at the end but I am rewarded with a satisfying "click" once it is all the way in. A portion of the plug still shows from the back, but this is irrelevant as the only connections that need to be made are further down anyway. I have used it with both headphones, and the AUX cable in my car (with a VERY expensive subwoofer and sound system) and have found that the sound quality puts my Droid Bionic (even with DSP manager) to shame.
