Sorry for the stupid post but I would like to move on from a basic AutoNookie Eclair set up to Froyo. I get a bit worried reading the How-To's though as I found the initial rooting process terrifying as it was.
Can you guys clarify what the simplest way to get Froyo on the EMMC. I have HC on an SD card and its cool to look at but essentially useless for what I am after at the moment. Currently running a very buggy Eclair. Froyo would be sweet.
Thanks for the heads up.
- Power off the Nook completely
- Remove any SD card you may have in it
- Insert the SD card you burned
- Plug the USB cable into the computer
- Plus the USB cable into the Nook (this will auto-boot the Nook from the SD card)
- Once CWM boots up, go into "mounts and storage"
- Select "format data" (wait for it to finish)
- Select "format system" (wait for it to finish)
- Select "format boot"
- Press the power button to go back
- Select "install zip from sdcard"
- Select "choose zip from sdcard"
- Select "froyo-emmc-0.2.zip"
- Confirm your decision
- Let it finish (it will tell when it is done)
- Press the power button until you are at the first CWM screen (should say "reboot system now" in first option)
- Remove the sd card
- Select "reboot system now"
- Important: Let the Nook boot up completely. I typically refrain from touching it until the display turns off after boot-up
- Unlock the Nook
- Unplug the USB cable from the Nook
- Power off completely
- Insert the same sd card again (the one we've been flashing from)
- Plug in the USB cable and let CWM boot up again
- Select "install zip from sd card"
- Select "choose zip from sdcard"
- Select "googleapps.zip"
- Confirm your decision
- Let it finish (it will tell when it is done)
- Press the power button until you are at the first CWM screen (should say "reboot system now" in first option)
- Remove the sd card
- Select "reboot system now"
- Important: Let the Nook boot up completely. I typically refrain from touching it until the display turns off after boot-up
- Unlock the Nook

does this require me to be back to stock or can I do it fine running from Eclair.
Also, will I maintain the apps I have already installed.
Thanks for that reply. Brilliant.
First off, I purposefully left these instructions vague. Please just use this guide as a starting point for what you must learn about. ALOT of reading of the development forum is a requirement, going into this without fully understanding each step is foolish. If done wrong you will cause yourself all kinds of headaches, though producing a brick is hard but not impossible.
You will lose all of your data on the nook color. You will lose the ability to start into clockwork mod(from EMMC) and make/flash recoveries(does not work with froyo).
I am no android developer, nor do I claim to be one. I'm just relaying what I've learned, and has worked for me in the past, from these forums. I'll answer questions to the best of my abilities, but please keep in mind that Froyo IS buggy.
K, here we go.
Easy way is the flashable cwm image located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=938200
Backup eclaire rom then reset to factory default
1: Install Rom manager
2: Flash clockwork mod in Rom Manager
3: Reboot into recovery
4: Create backup of rom(stores on sd card)
5: Wipe data and reset to factory default
turn off
Burn froyo image onto SD card
1: Download winimage (assuming windows)
2: Run as administrator
3: Disk -> restore virtual hard disk image
4: Select SD card
5: Select image to flash
Flash Image
Flash to EMMC
1: Put froyo sd card into nook and boot
2: Clockwork mod will start
3: In "Mounts and Storage" format boot, then system, then data
4: Go back(pwr button) and select flash zip from sd card
5: Select Froyo image
wait for completion
Once Flashed and boots
1: If SD card does not mount replace vold.prop with nookie Froyo 5.8's (A fix is curently being worked on)
2: Install Gapps via instructions here: http://www.nookdevs.com/NookColor:_Nookie_Froyo_Tips
3: Install OC kernel, instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10903913&postcount=233
I am new to this whole think of the nook color. Could anyone give me any instructions on how to put on cm7. I am not sure what to do with my sd card, once, do I put clockworks mod on it or cm7? After I install cm7 can I re-format my sd card to put it where I can put files back on it? Any help please.
This is from faceman over at androidtablets. One of the clearest write-ups of the process that I have seen.
Before beginning:
1. Booted into Recovery
2. Created new nand backup
3. Removed and stored MAIN sd
Using a new and different sd:
1. created 4gb CWR_ext4_0.1 bootable SD [Followed process here: ][RECOVERY] EXT4 Compatible Bootable Clockwork SD Card 0.1 (+ tasty treats) - xda-developers
2. moved flashable zip of CM7 to SD [edit: now using latest nightly found here: ]CyanogenMod Mirror Network - Powered by TDRevolution
3. moved latest gapps to SD [Found here: Latest Version/Google Apps - CyanogenMod Wiki
4. moved latest Froyo/CM7 overclock kernel to SD [Found here: ][Kernel][Eclair][Froyo][CM7][Honeycomb] Dalingrin's OC kernel [2/18/11] - xda-developers
4. insert into NC
Installing
1. boot with bootable sd (CWR_ext4_0.1 - ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.6)
2. 'mounts and storage' --> format /system ; /data ; /cache
3. back to main menu
4. 'install zip from sdcard' --> 'choose zip from sdcard' --> select "latest_CM7_nightly.zip"
5. 'install zip from sdcard' --> 'choose zip from sdcard' --> select "gapps-gb-20110120-signed.zip"
6. 'install zip from sdcard' --> 'choose zip from sdcard' --> select "update-1100mhz-froyo_CM7-emmc-cwm.zip" [if desired]
7. 'mounts and storage' --> unmount sdcard --> remove sdcard
8. reboot
First Boot
1. (got chills seeing that little cm7 droid boot animation)
2. @ Welcome to NookColor --> waited full 5 minutes for system to settle (?)
3. tapped Droid to begin setup
4. waited for Notification Bar to show WiFi available --> dragged down to open
5. Selected my router and logged in
6. Used built in 'Back Button' in top right of notification bar to go back to setup
7. @ Set up your Google Account --> signed in
8. @ Market Apps Installer - IMPORTANT: Read This! --> OK
9. @ Choose the apps to install --> preference i guess (gmail and google search were already installed - I added YouTube) --> ok
10. above took me to YouTube install screeen from market, seleceted Install then OK
11. @ Use Google Location --> i uncheck both since it's not a phone --> Next
12. @ Back up data --> i uncheck again --> Next
13. "Your Google Account is now linked to this phone" --> Finish setup
14. now to set time prefferences --> personal preference here (set time zone and current time will adjust) --> Next
15. WOOT! CM7 Home Screen!
16. Open Apps --> Settings --> CyanogenMod Settings --> Lockscreen --> Style Options --> Lockscreen style --> change to Sliding Tab (this is because the Rotary wheel isn't sized right yet and is real hard to use currently)
17. back @ Settings --> Applications --> check allow for Unknown Sources
18. open Market --> downloaded Titanium Backup
19. Ran batch restore to replace missing user apps
20. Open and tested each user app (some worked, some didn't - but it's early)
First Backup
1. Power off NC
2. boot with bootable sd (CWR_ext4_0.1 - ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.6)
3. 'backup and restore' --> 'Backup' (this creates nand backup to the SD card of the installed system)
4. 'mounts and storage' --> unmount sdcard --> remove sdcard
5. reboot
First Nightly Update
1. Download latest nightly (CyanogenMod Mirror Network - Powered by TDRevolution)
2. Place new file onto the bootable ext4 SD
3. boot with bootable sd (CWR_ext4_0.1 - ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.6)
4. 'install zip from sdcard' --> 'choose zip from sdcard' --> select "latest_nightly.zip"
5. 'install zip from sdcard' --> 'choose zip from sdcard' --> select "update-1100mhz-froyo_CM7-emmc-cwm.zip" [if needed, at this time the nightly will restore original clock speed]
7. 'mounts and storage' --> unmount sdcard --> remove sdcard
8. reboot
Restoring a nand backup of CM7
1. Power off NC
2. boot with bootable sd (CWR_ext4_0.1 - ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.6)
3. 'backup and restore' --> 'Restore' (select the backup you wish to restore - usually one with most recent date)
4. 'mounts and storage' --> unmount sdcard --> remove sdcard
5. reboot
Reverting back to any other AOSP

Hi guys,
I tried installing CM7 onto my nook, i installed the zip of it onto the root of my sd card and then went into clockwork and installed the zip without wiping anything. Now im stuck at the stock android root boot screen not the even the CM7 one. I tried to go into recovery but i cant and i cant do the 8 interruptions either. I was just wondering if i have to restore the NC back to 1.1 or can i just burn the image of clockwork onto my sd card and zip another rom instead?
This happened to me, too.
I think it was because I wasn't using the latest Clockwork.
Take your SD card out and redo it making sure you use CW 3.0.1.0.
Then follow the steps listed here:
Download a working build of CyanogenMod and place it on the root of the card.
Optional: Download the Google Apps archive and place it on the root of the card.
Turn your Nook Color completely off. (Hold power button then tap "Power Off")
Insert the SD card you installed ClockworkMod Recovery onto.
Once ClockworkMod Recovery has booted, use the volume buttons to highlight options, the "n" button to select the highlighted option, and power to go back a menu.
Select Wipe data/factory reset.
Select Wipe cache partition.
Go to install zip from sdcard, then choose zip from sdcard and find your build of CyanogenMod.
Optional: Repeat step 6 with your Google Apps archive instead.
Go to mounts and storage --> unmount sdcard --> remove sdcard. (Rebooting without this step may just return you to the CWR menu.)
Go back to the main menu and select reboot system now. The Nook Color should now boot into CyanogenMod.
(In my case it froze and I had to hold power to shut it off with no negative effects. Your results may vary.)
Sigh, had to copy n paste the steps since I can't post links yet.
I re-did mine and it turned out just fine.
Thanks a lot. Im going to try that out and report back.
Yeah, sounds like you missed the wipe /system /data /cache step. I did the same once, and resulted the same bootloop -> took me a few minutes to realize what I had done.
Did what you guys said and my nook is back . Thanks a lot for the input. Saved me!
I found some similar threads but I'm a total noob with all of this. I'm hoping someone could help me out here using laymen terms (not even really sure what you guys mean when you say to "flash the zip").
I used autonooter 3.0 awhile back without knowing that clockwork recovery was also included with it. I wanted to restore back to stock and just have it back to factory settings. I foolishly tried to reboot 8 times thinking that it would revert back to factory settings, however now it gets stuck in the ClockworkMod Recovery v.3.0.0.5 everytime I boot up the nook. I saw one of the threads mention to use CWR removal zip, so I placed that on my sdcard, inserted it into my nook and tried to "install zip from sdcard" from CWR, but it keeps saying "Can't mount /sdcard/update.zip". I'm at the point where I'm completely stuck and frustrated as I can't use my nook and having trouble deciphering some of the threads here. Could someone please help with a walkthrough? Thank you so much!
Flash the zip refers to the option available on CWR (or using ADB, but nevermind that for now). You use the sound keys to go up and down, the N for enter and the power for back (if memory serves me correctly).
Also in CWR you have different options to format /data /system /cache and a bit more.
All you need is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690
You can start by doing only part 2, which is to put the zip file in a uSD (root is fine, as you have to navigate to it), boot up your nook, flash that zip, and format chache partition and dalvik cache (have a look on the options of each menu in CWR). Then do the 8 times and see if it works. If not, move to doing part 1 also.
Also, read this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943956
and use the search feature of the forums. Keep reading, everything will start to make sense soon!
Thanks so much for your help. I tried adding the zip file to my sdcard, but trying to install that part is where I'm getting stuck. I'm selecting "install zip from sdcard, choose zip from sdcard" from CWM, but it keeps saying that it "failed to mount /sdcard, can't mount sdcard". I assumed that I needed to go to mounts and storage and select "mount /sdcard" but it just gives me an error mounting sdcard message. Same with selecting "format sdcard". Any other suggestions?
Unless you got the AN 3.0 image from a source other than the original thread in this forum, clockworks recovery was not installed from using AN 3.0. You, or someone else, had to go into the “ROM Manager” app and manually select to install it.
To fix the problem, go HERE and make yourself a bootable ClockworkMod SD card. Once you have made the card, put the CWM remover zip on the SD card. Turn off your NC, and then boot the device with the bootable CWM card. Then you need to install the CWM remover zip.
This worked like a charm. Thank you GM and Gun! Totally made my day.
I apologize up front if this seems like a stupid question, but I want to know the right way....
Can someone verify that the instructions I found for switching ROMs are accurate for Safestrap 2.x?
I found this on DroidForums and cannot post the link:
15) Download the ROM of your choice to your SD card. For more information see step 13 above.
16) Restart your phone. At the SafeStrap boot screen, press the menu button to enter recovery.
17) Verify that "Safe System is: ENABLED".
18) Go to "backup and restore" and make a backup. I recommend backing-up everything including the webtop and unsafe system. You can save the backup to internal or external SD card according to your available storage and personal preference. The backup will be saved in \Safestrap\Backup.
34) Select "++++Go Back++++" to return to the main recovery menu.
35) Go to "mounts and storage" menu and format \system.
36) Now hit "+++Go Back+++" to leave mounts and storage, and go into "Install zip from sdcard". DON'T GO TO "apply update from sdcard".
37) Go to "choose zip from sdcard" and find the ROM .zip file. DON'T GO TO "apply /sdcard/update.zip".
38) Now hit "+++Go Back+++" and hit "Wipe data/factory reset" and then also "Wipe cache partition".
39) Now go to the "Advanced" menu and "Wipe dalvik cache".
40) Finally, hit "+++Go Back+++" to return to the main recovery menu and select "power off". Wait for power down to finish, then restart your bionic. Be patient, the first boot takes unusually long.

There is no webtop for the Droid 3, but so far all looks good. I never backup the unsafe system, since it just takes up room and I have a good backup of the unsafe system already. (I believe that it is called "original system" and not unsafe system.)
34) Select "++++Go Back++++" to return to the main recovery menu.
35) Go to "mounts and storage" menu and format \system.

This is fine, but should be unnecessary. Any good custom ROM will format system before it starts copying files. However, it won't hurt.

If you "Wipe data/factory reset" there is no reason to "Wipe Dalvik cache" - the /cache partition is formatted as part of "Wipe data/factory reset". That said, again, it won't hurt...
39) Now go to the "Advanced" menu and "Wipe dalvik cache".
Click to collapse
COMPLETELY unnecessary if you did the Wipe Dalvik cache in the previous step, and really not at all required if you did "Wipe data/factory reset". I'm not quite sure why people think that wiping something once misses something so it needs to be done more than once?
40) Finally, hit "+++Go Back+++" to return to the main recovery menu and select "power off". Wait for power down to finish, then restart your bionic. Be patient, the first boot takes unusually long.

Yep, except, of course, you will restart the Droid 3.
MMS on JB (10/01) on XT862
MMS on JB (10/01) on XT862 doesn't seem to be working... otherwise the build is fairly stable.
