Anyone having any issues with AGPS on their i9000/i9000m on Rogers?
I have an i9000m that's unlocked and running on Rogers, has been for months, and recently I noticed that I'm having issues with AGPS again. (Same issue we had last year)
GPS is working normal, just no AGPS. (the cellular assisted gps)
i9000m w/Darky's Rom 9.2 w/JL2 modem.
No problems here; i9000m with XWJS5 DocRom from kitchen; Hardcore's speedmod k13c, and UGJL2 modem firmware. aGPS and GPS work fine.
When did the problem start after you put custom rom on ??
jje
I have been using the various versions of Darky's for months, the issue did not occur when I started using a custom rom.
I tried Darky's 9.3 Beta 3, same thing.
The thing that's weird though, is when I am in certain areas, it seems to work, but not in others.
I'm going to need to do some more investigation elsewhere I think, maybe it doesn't recognize the cell towers that I am on.

I have a couple captivates and one works great but the others mobile data performance has become terrible. It was great yesterday but sometime around me flashing a new speedmod kernel and the ZNKP1 modem. I have been flashing different roms, kernels, and modems to no avail. I tried phoenix, serendipity, paragon, and dorian ROMs with speedmod and glitterball kernels and JK3, JK4, JL2, and JL3 modems. Nothing really seems to effect the performance. I have tried both the WCDMA 850 and 1900 bands but both perform badly. It shows that it is connected to HSDPA. I can keep a connection perfectly fine but no matter what I have tried I can't get decent performance. When I run speedtest the meter will jump up a bit freeze drop slowly go up and it will repeat the process giving me about 500-700 down and anywhere below 1000 down. The other captivate can achieve consistent 2600 down and 1300 up.
I am a bit worried that something may be wrong with my phone. Does anyone know what could be wrong?
SOLVED
I switched the sim cards and each phone performed opposite. It is obviously an AT&T problem.
Well looking @ all the different variations that you've tried have you found one that you like?
I recommend finding one that your happy with and then flash to stock and install just the package that you're most satisfied with.
Flashing all those Kernels/Modems could have caused an issue in some sense. If you havn't returned to stock in between them
Been flashing back to stock in between all ROMs and have done master clear everytime. Will try to load a modem to the stock ROM and see what happens. Thanks.

What ROM & Modem are you running now?
Just flashed back to stock and tested with poor results, a ping of 999+ and 300 down 200 up(was also getting poor reception on stock 2 bars) . I am currently in the process of flashing to Phoenix 3.5.
I am now running Cognition 3.0.2 with Firebird 2 Kernel and JL3 modem. The problem is still there just ran the same test on both phones good one: 2000 down 1300 up 130 ping bad one : 900 down failed on upload 300 ping
Hi guys,
I had a question about the JL2 firmware update for Bell i9000M's.
I've updated to seeARM's custom firmware with my galaxy s, because it was mentioned that you need the JL2 firmware in order to access the 850Mhz band for Canada's 3G network.
How is the Bell Galaxy S different than the Rogers Galaxy Captivate? How is it that bell phones have to have the JL2 modem in order to get the 850Mhz, or do I have the wrong impression about this?
Thanks,
Kenrick
Captivate model was made only for canada and at&t thats why all of their modems have the 850Mhz
I9000M need the 850Mhz in order to work in canada but the I9000 its an international phone and there is a lot of modems around for different countries/areas that dont need that band. you can get it to work with a few more modems JK3, JK4 and BVJP5
Thanks! Didn't realize that the Bell model was the only international version. I just thought it was the only one lucky enough to have a physical home button lol.
Btw, do you know if JK3, JK4 and BVJP5 will cause that internal SD card failure? The initial 2.2 release for Froyo (which was JK4 i believe) was the worse in terms of causing the internal SD failure. The supposedly JL2 update didn't mitigate the issue completely, but it didn't make it worse.
JK3, JK4 and BVJP5 are modems the rom you are talking JL2 has the JK4 modem, tbh i dont own the I9000M i got the I9000T but from what ive read some people run differents roms just fine on the M, just do some reading first and remember to use one of the modems with the 850Mhz band

Bell i9000m (JL2 build / modem)
I have a question. I installed a GPS optimisation app from the app store and ever since my GPS has been terrible - I'm talking 3-5 mins just to get a lock. Is there a quick/easy solution to this ? I.E. reflash the modem ? I am using a JL2 850 band modem as I am with Bell with an i9000m. Please any assitance or advice would be appreciated.
Also second to this issue is surrounding Darky's Rom - is it possible for i9000m phones on the Bell Band (Jl2 modem) ? any advice ?
Darky's rom works with bell on i9000. Wife has it and works, but the GPS does not lock now.
I have tried all the apps but that is not the issue, its gets max 7 satelites and low signal outside. When trying nav app it will just sit and wait for gps. Turned off network based aiding of gps signal.
Darky's rom v9.3 with JL2 modem
If installing the gps app didn't fix it (would have been good to say what app btw), then you'll need to flash a full rom to refer the change. Flashing modem firmware won't do anything.
All roms can work with 850 3g, comes down to your modem firmware and how the settings are tweaked in the numeric code menu. You can even use 850 3g on non-850 modem firmware without a problem, you just may need to tweak the advanced settings.

I had this same issue (though not with darky's with seeARMS rom) - I'm was using SOK kernel but now im using Damion's ...
I messed it up by installing some GPS optimization app.
Believe it or not I solved it. I uninstalled Audio Galaxy -- not sure why but this worked. Does she have this app
I has similar problem. Phone as delivered had JL2 and I got GPS running by flashing JM9 GPS fix firmware. I backed this running image up with CWM and played a bit with seeARMS rom but it does not have working swype and for some reason Touchdown was reaaaal slow so decide to return to previous image. The CMW restore failed though due to a bad MD5 so I flashed the full JL2 via Odin (a good cleanout) and reflashed the JM9 GPS firmware and fixed the GPS problem again (cleared the GPS stats as well). Now get quick locks even indoors. Why the long story? The fix is repeatable. JK4 modem reportedly gives better performance but I am unlikley to fix what is not broken now. Maybe try JK4 modem first and if does not work then JL2 modem then over flash the JM9 GPS only firmware.

Hey Guys,
I had flashed 2.3.3 JVK Gingerbread to my Canadian Bell Samsung i9000m. Since the flash my cellular signal is extremely poor. Getting 0-1 bar in places I would normally get 4-full on Froyo. With JVK the phone is extremely fast, email app has stopped constantly force closing and for the first time, gps works great! This is why I didn't just want to flash back to Froyo to fix the cell signal issue. I had been told by a member here to ensure that [8]WCDMA 850(FDD V)[*] in the band settings had a star in it. It did not, I had selected it and rebooted, star is now there with no change in signal strength.... So this is my question, am I going to have to flash back to froyo to fix this and once again live without GPS? Or is there a work-around or setting to fix signal strength. ANY help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance..

NA Bell i9000m Vibrant
Flashed to 2.3.3 JVK Gingerbread with Odin with new Bootloaders, no PIT/Repartition.
EVERYTHING else works perfect, except cellphone signal.
**FIXED**
Flashed the KC1 (Bell Canada Update) modem.bin via odin. I now get full signal (84dB) where I had previosly had none. (2.3.3. Modem). Gps working great. Phone still fast as hell.
Also just a follow up, I tried the JL2 modem first but gps failed to lock. Thanks for the advice though the 850mhz was the key!
No no no! Its just your modem, you can flash any modem toy like!
Go for jl2 as it is 850mhz by default.
Just find the jl2 modem. If its a zip then extract modem.bin and place in the pda section of odin. Flash away! If its a .tar file just put this straight in.

thanks for the quick reply. So the modem type has nothing to do with gps?? Also, how safe is it to flash the modem from another firmware? thanks again for all the help dude.. I apologize in advance for any truly stupid questions haha..

Yes you can use any froyo modem.
As for gps... I hear conflicting reports about that. Jl2 tho has great gps from reports.
I found jvk modem to drain heaps standby. Im guessing that without 850mhz band your phone is using a fallback band with worse reception. Ll2 should sort this out

So is the JL2 from 2.2.1?, as with the 2.2 Froyo, my gps was not just being slow, but not functioning at all (0 Locked sat's).
Also, where would I obtain this modem file, and how is it flashed. I ran a search and noticed that some member state it goes into the PDA field in ODIN and other stating it goes into the PHONE field. Also, I have not modified the bootloader,(Stock came with 2.3.3) and I am unsure weather it could be flashed using the update method. As this is my work phone, I need to be sure I will not brick it. Once again, sorry for all the questions, the help is GREATLY appreciated.
**EDIT**
Also, when going into the *#2263#, the 850 Band is listed in both the GSM and CDMA areas, both with a corresponding star in the box beside them. Not sure if this means the band is actually there or not. One thing I am sure of is the fact that with FROYO my signal was perfect, with GPS non existant and phone generally SLOW, with 2.3.3 EVERYTHING is working great with the exception of the cell signal strength. Speed is incredible.
Ah glad to hear you sorted it out! Being half canadian myself I was glad I helped.

I just recently upgraded my phone to Gingerbread, since then i have been having problem to receive an Incoming calls
when I have an incoming call, the phone does not ring or, vibrate or even show the incoming call screen. the only thing I can see is the little icon next to 3G icon on the top of the screen showing there is an incoming call and the screen will be blank. non either call accept or reject page will show instead it will show blank page and the network bar will be lost.

Hi everyone, i updated to JVO, im having a bad network reception and im unable to connect 3g. I already manually type in the APN networks just as they are in my captivate running froyo and like they were in the phone using froyo but i only see the edge symbol.
if anyone can help me fix this it would be awesome.
do i have to change the modem? and how? got heimdall and odin...
if it cannot be fixed how i move back again to froyo? with odin just the same way i installed gingerbread?
i got the JVO from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790
and i rooted it using this instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093155

PD:since update i cant enter recovery mode but i can enter download mode
EDIT:
my phone is a GT-I9000T i think that might be the source of all my problems should i go back to froyo?
is darky rom the solution?
i was reading in another website that darkys rom was fixing i9000T problems but my question is can i install just the modem from darkys rom?
decided to go back to froyo JPY that was working 100% until more GB firmwares come out, hopefully one will work for GT-I9000T gingerbread was so fast for the short time i had it
You could just flash your default modem after upgrading to GB... I am on a Bell Canada modem from 2.2 but I am on a European Version of 2.3.3.. I get way better reception
didnt knew i could mix the modem of previous versions, but thxs for the information
