Is there any way for me to downgrade from 2.3.3 back to an earlier froyo build? Its kinda laggy for me and I want CM7 back, but I'm unrooted and on official 2.3.3. Can I use the passimg.zip trick? If so, which passimg do I need? Thanks in advance.
You can grab it from developer.htc.com
So do I just take the latest version (FRF91) rename it passimg.zip and it will work? I don't want to unlock the boot loader...
Well, after putting it on the root of the SDcard, all that happens is that it checks it and then goes back to the fastboot/hboot screen, not telling me anything...
Not named passimg.zip.zip by any chance is it?
PASSIMG might not downgrade you. You can try, though. There is a post that says FRG33 is still flashable.
Root, install custom recovery, flash what you want.
If you can't root without unlocking the bootloader - then I guess you're out of options.

Yeah, but on my Nexus One with 0.35.0017 HBOOT I can confirm it's not flashing, only giving me a message that Main Version is older!
Not a big deal, I'll have to root it with rageagainstthecage when he finally releases Gingerbreak I guess...
Does HBOOT affect what can be flashed by PASSIMG? And also, is FRG33 the only image that is flashable by this? Maybe I could try another image?
Yes, HBOOT is one of the things that are checked and thus affects "flashability".
This is what unlocking the bootloader is good for.
I updated to stock 2.3.3. Lost my root so I grabbed the frg33 update, renamed it to passing.zip and flashed it through bootloader. Took 2 mins. then used super one click to root and then flashed clockwork mod and then just flashed whatever rom I wanted.

That's almost certainly because yours is PASSIMG.ZIP.ZIP instead of PASSIMG.ZIP. You named it wrong.

Yes, if you could upload the EXACT SAME one that worked for you, pre-named and everything it would be a HUGE help. I've downloaded from 10 different mirrors, and either I get an error or it skips when it's supposed to prompt for flashing.

Got my phone back from HTC with power button repaired. Happy days. Or so i thought...
Now I have stock 2.3.4 GRJ22 installed, and want to root so I can get back to CM7. However I don't want to unlock the bootloader.
I've tried downloading previous PASSIMG and trying to flash them to downgrade to exploitable versions.
However all I keep getting is failed, main version is older.
It would seem to be impossible to accomplish at this point in time. Any suggestions (apart from unlocking the bootloader)??

To be honest, it was nice not having to jump through loops to get the phone rooted. I just did the fastboot OEM unlock. Then flash your custom recovery then flash the rom of your choice. I am way out of warranty so unlocking the bootloader was nice. Regarding your issue, I have no idea.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yes it's tempting to unlock the bootloader. However I still have warranty and don't want to muddy the waters in that respect.
Do I have no other choice than to sit and wait for a new exploit then?

I don't believe the OTA update is going to help you at all. Here's what I would do. The factory RUU (ROM Update Utility) that HTC provides is an executable that you run from your Windows PC (XP preferred). You don't have to load it to the phone - your phone just has to be connected.
A couple questions before we begin:
1 - Which phone did you get? DEV 64 - AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile?
2 - Do you want to save anything on that phone?
If no to 2, just continue. But if you want to save anything you'll need to use either Titanium Backup or Go Backup & Restore Pro (my favorite). Back up to the cloud or copy your backed up items off your phone if you wish to keep them because you're about to wipe it clean.
You can find the RUU for the DEV unit here - http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads. You may need to register at htcdev.com to access this page. But here you'll find a list of downloads - some are CRC (kernel source code) and one is RUU (WWE stands for World Wide Edition). Download that to your PC.
Not sure if this is necessary, but I would boot to recovery and wipe data/factory reset my phone. This will erase anything that you have on it. I'd also wipe the cache and davlik.
Next once the RUU is downloaded and you're sure you've backed up EVERYTHING you want to keep, double click on the RUU. It should be cake from there. It'll restore your One back to factory standards and you should be able to send this puppy back.:highfive:

Also, if you bought the unlocked version from HTC like I did then you're fine with having it factory unlocked with an unlocked bootloader. You don't need to re-lock that.
By the way, here's a graphic of the file you'll want to download and run on your computer when you're ready to restore the phone.

Ok, I don't think so. Sorry. The RUU appears to be for the Dev edition only. That was the mistake I made and I completely hosed my previous phone. I see the one that you bought here: http://shopamerica.htc.com/cell-phones/productdetail.htm?prId=41589
Until HTC releases an RUU for that device we can't go that route.
The only other route would be to flash the stock ROM to your phone at the link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224752
Follow the instructions. You'll end up adb flashing the stock boot.img and stock recovery back to your phone. Those files are discussed in the first post.
It's a little more work, but this is the kind of stuff that I love staying up late for. Good luck and sorry we couldn't do it with an RUU.

Before I did anything I updated to the newest firmware. Then using twrp I created back ups and transfured them to my computer. I flash the Android Rev 4.3 not knowing it was GSM only. The phone never would go past the boot loader. So i restored from my twrp back up. All of my stuff came back but I had no service and after about a min the phone would reboot it self. So i did the factory wipe and have been trying to get a rom to flash since then. I was finally able to get one to load today but i still have the same no service/reboot issue, however now i can't access the menu. When i swipe up it just says HTC till it reboots it self.
I have resorted to using ADB to load roms I have even used super wipe with no changes. I'm out of ideas here.

Please forgive me as my flashing back to stock experience goes back to my Motorola Photon days. If I soft-bricked my device I would SBF (Motorola's RUU) back. Any version would work. Once I had the device reloaded I would then re-unlock and try again with my favorite choice of ROM.

If the device can't be s-off'ed then how do you flash radio.img file? Doesn't it say signature verifying failed? How do you overcome that? (using fastboot)
Or directly using the radios from here http://www.mofirouz.com/wordpress/2011/03/htc-desire-radios/ in recovery mode, but these zips don't have the update-binary and are not up to date with the edify script. How do you create update-binary for each zip then? Or where from do you get latest radios?

Yes, living with it. Need developer for later works/mods? PM.
Check the General Forum for S-OFF .... Rumrunner exploited for Desire C but be warned that if you are on HBOOT 1.31.xxx it may not reboot....
Looking into it to get 1.31.xxx working.
The multiple vibrations are still present and warned of, must be a side effect of the exploit.
Bashing away at my HTC Desire C
Works fine with 1.31
Clear some space on the PC and start a comparison between S-ON/S-OFF RADIOS but I'm willing to bet it's at a lower level than the RADIO that causes the 7 vibrations on Boot.
