Hello All,
I've been looking through all the threads here and can't find an answer as to how to get my phone to work properly. I tried to do the one-click root for rogers as outlined in one of the threads here, but something went wrong. Couldnt get my phone past the rogers screen. I then loaded DREAIMG.nbh and was able to get my phone to a working state, however now its a TMobile phone and I don't know where to go from here.
The main issue is that i'm running HBOOT 0.95.0000 so there's no flashboot on the phone so I can't load anything and any update file I try fails. Specs as follows:
Model Number: T-Mobile G1
Firmware version: 1.0
Baseband Version: 62.33.20.08H_1.22.12.29
Kernel Version: 2.6.25-01843-gfea26b0 [email protected]#6
Build Number: kila-user 1.0 TC4-R29 115247 ota-rel-keys,release-keys
When I start up (CAMERA + POWER) I get the following settings (on red/green/blue/white screen *sigh*)

I called Rogers and they said that they would send me a replacement but that I may have to pay for a brand new phone which would be upwards of $600, definitely not worth it.
I don't know where to go from here, I just want my phone to work properly (right now the interface blows, even messaging it puts all my messages at the bottom and new messages at the top of the thread, which makes no sense). I don't care whether the phone ends up being a TMobile that works on Rogers (as long as I have 3G access as I'm paying for it, and right now I'm on Edge) and the functionality of the phone is good.
I'm unable to update the HBOOT version from 0.95.000 and this is what I really want to do - I figure that if I can get a newer version (even 0.95.000 that has the fastboot function) than I can update to 1.33 and update my firmware from there.
I've tried running the update on HTC/Rogers website but it does not recognize the USB device so the upgrade fails... I've installed the drivers for the phone but I think because the drivers are for 1.5/1.6 its not recognizing the phone.
Any help would be appreciated - thanks in advance
Root the phone.
Install HardSPL.
Run Rogers RUU.
What method should I use for rooting since I don't have the flashboot available?
And should I use Rogers Root method or regular G1 root method?
So I used the RC29 root and installed HardSPL, however the Rogers RUU will not run, I get an error message... as opposed to above, now I get this when I do CAMERA + POWER

Seeing as how the Rogers RUU won't work, is there another version that will work? or that will allow me to get the phone back to rogers standard?
Here is your solution
Bor, i had same problem and i ended up with MOSHI electronics in Pacific mall.................
Have you figured anything out because the same thing happened to me. I need to fix this any help would be awesome!
guys this same thing happend with me however i somehow solved the problem.
so heres what happend with me and what i did...
i rooted my g1(rogers) and then the phone was slow so...i found amon-ra as recovery i flashed it then installed dwang but my phone soemhow got bricked! in panic i used to GOOGLES method to unbrick my phone with Dreaming.nbh....
then when i started my phone g1 screen came up...and i wasnt able to connected to any network. so u have to put apn by urself.... so its name: Rogers apn: internet.com username: wapuser1 password: wap
u will now be able to at least come to home screen.
now what i did is i upgraded my build number. untill rc33 (but u may not need to)
after which i downloaded flashrec (if u used the method above as u mentioned u must have used it) if u have then what u do is back up and then download and flash the rom it shows. magically after doing this i rebooted my phone and ended up with the radio i was on and the rom i was on... everything came back to normal except i no longer get ROGERS SCREEN but t-mobile g1. HOWEVER I DONT KNOW FOR SURE THIS WILL WORK BUT FOR ME I WAS MAGIC and since it was fixed i didnt bother looking for the logic behind it lol.
then i just reflashed amon-ra (older version) latest one dun seem to work for me...then flashed dwang latest rom and since been runing fast fast fast....however once installed dwang i didnt have 3g coverage i had to redo the APN manually then it started working.
u can try all this but no gurantees it just worked for me.
u can try ROOTING it as if it was a T-mobile phone. methods are so much simpler....less time consuming and u can end up with a good rom. now i dont know how to go back to the original state. oh and ROGERS RUU dont work. so yea...
Rogers/G1 Dream Boot Loader issue
Hi,
I'm having a similar problem to this post. My phone is on Rogers, but I accidentally loaded the T-Mobile .nbh file. Now my phone is stuck on the boot loader, Red/Green/Blue screen, telling me the following information:

I've looked all over the place and haven't found the exact same problem as this. Normally people are saying 'reroot' the phone, but I can't get out of the boot loader to the console, even with the battery 100%++ charged. When I try to load different .nbh files' it either comes back with 'Not Allow', or says the file is corrupt.
I've tried different .IMG files but when the phone boots, it says .IMG file not found.
I think the main problem is not being able to get out of the boot-loader and into the console.
If anybody could assist, that would be great.
Thanks,
RDHG

Dude, you DO NOT WANT the robbers standard. It is crippled and WAY too far out of date.
It's better the way it is, but your radio is hopelessly out of date.
I suggest you go to developer.htc.com/adp.html, grab the latest radio and img-14721.zip from there and follow their FASTBOOT instructions to install them.
You may (or may not) also like/need a proper recovery to work the radio image. Cyanogen recovery 1.4 is nice -- there are others around that are newer, but I'm not familiar with them. Search for it and install via fastboot (which is a function of that hardspl you installed).

You don't want a console. You want to boot into android normally and run the "1-click-root" application.
can you get into any type of recovery mode? powering on with home + power
Okay, I bricked my first Rogers HTC dream because I thought it froze during a reboot after I updated the ROM so I pulled out the battery... sure enough I didn't wait long enough and that phone is no more. I am in the US on AT&T and wanted to take advantage of 3G.
Basically I would like to know the correct procedure before going any further.
I'm following this:
[HOWTO] Root, Hack, Flash G1/Dream - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=553416
To use this:
[ROM]TheOfficial DONUT TMO US/EU & AOSP-1.6_r1.4(dream/sapphire32B)[11/17/09]-v2.2.1 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538456
So far all I did was download ASTRO, Backup Recovery Image, and then Flashed to RAv1.2.1G.img. After I rebooted while holding Home+Power it stopped at the "ROGERS" screen and my heart stopped. I thought I bricked my phone again. After pulling out the battery and rebooting without trying to get into recovery it booted up fine. So before I go any further what should I or shouldn't be doing. As of right now my phone works fine and will boot up fine and boot into the HBOOT screen but it will NOT boot into recovery, it will just say rogers.
Here is what the HBOOT screen says:
DREAM PVT 32B SHIP S-ON d
HBOOT-1.33.0010 (DREA21000)
CPLD-4
RADIO-3.22.20.17

If anyone can help out here. What exactly should I be doing with a Rogers Dream with the above settings?
Thanks a lot.
use this thread instead?

hi.
i think its the spl that prevent you from booting, try updating your radio version to the compatible one and update to hspl.Make sure your radio version is the right one
HBOOT-1.33.0010 is the so called "perfected" spl
Now this is for the normal T-Mobile G1 but when you flash a radio you should ALWAYS flash the spl first. So I'm assuming that you have to do the same with a rogers though. I'm jealous I wish I had a rogers G1 so I can use 3G =[

NO the radio should always be flashed first. the .2005 spl will brick a g1 with the wrong radio.
however, the .2005 spl is safe with ALL roger dreams.
IIRC, rogers needs the .2005 to begin the rooting procedure.
you need to get that or use a proper 1-click that will work on your phone
Hey I first followed the one click root guide for Rogers before realizing that my new G1 may have defenses against that method. I am unable to get past the Rogers boot screen. I have tried to use a nandroid backup I found on these forums of an original Rogers unrooted g1. I have tried flashing images from givemeroot and rogers_root_unzipme.
While right now, I don't have access to the recovery menu, I believe that I can get it by flashing one of the recovery.img again.
At fastboot, I have:
DREAM PVT 32B ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-1.33.2005 (DREA21000)
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.19.26i
Hoping someone can tell me what my next step should be, I want to get Cyanogen up and running as I was very happy with it before my last G1 was stolen! Thanks!
I'm not all that familiar with the Roger's phone, but just in case you haven't been using Cyanogen's Wiki check out the guide specifically for the Roger's Dream
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_Rogers_Dream_EBI1_to_CyanogenMod
Yeah, I've been there, but as I didn't start out with that guide, I'm not sure what to do. In that guide they specifically tell you not to flash the boot and recovery images, which I have done.
I dont know the Rogers G1 but I thought the Rogers had a different radio? Initial glance, your radio version looks like the T-Mobile/ADP radio. Not sure about this though

If so flash a new recovery and see where it get's you
Yeah I can get into fastboot, I flashed the recovery.img from rogersrootunzip me first, nothing. Then from givemeroot and I have the recovery menu! CyanogenMod v1.4 +JF

Alright, so you know what to do from here then, right?
Ok, so I followed the directions for rogers on cyanogen's wiki. I have just installed HTC system.img and now Cyanogen's zip. Should I do the kernel patch? I'm thinking no as that would be running a EBI1 kernel with the radio.img for an EBI0. I don't even know which one my phone is!
Its booting! I'm looking at the Home Screen NOW! THANKS ALOT! You just saved me a lot of money I don't have!
I'm on a Rogers HTC Dream. I've rooted the phone since last year and haven't installed anything on it but Cyanogenmod since. I never applied the Rogers E911 update. I instead followed this guide that gave the 3.22.26.17 radio: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Upgrade_Rogers_Dream_Radio
I've had reception problems ever since, but I stuck with the phone. However, the problem has gotten worse and worse. Everything I've read has convinced me that it's the radio version, which makes perfect sense to me.
I need to confirm that the following radio is compatible with my system and won't give me any problems. The above wiki page pretty much tells me it should be compatible with my current system, but I wanted to double-check just in case. Besides, I'm on a 32B device and the radio below says 32A so that worries me.

I have signed the Rogers HTC Waiver, and the form actually worked for me. It's also been more than 24 hours since I signed it.
I honestly can't rely on my Dream anymore as I keep missing calls/text losing data connection etc. I'm currently carrying two phones on me at all times because the other phone can actually make and receive calls, while my HTC Dream ... well it has so much I need on it. I'd really like to recover full use of my HTC Dream again. I love Android and can't afford to buy a new phone right now. Not to mention I can't upgrade until next year anyways as I still have two years left in my Rogers contract.
So can someone knowledgeable please double check all my info and give me the green light (or red light if need be) ?
It would really help me out a lot. If you need any more info from me, please let me know.
If the radio says 32a i wouldnt flash to a 32b device. I would do a search for compatible radio spl combos you should find a thread where lbcoder tells you what is compatible with what. If not find him and pm him if you can. He can tell you for sure
THANK YOU!
That'll help me a great deal.

You can safely flash 3.22.20.17 on a rogers dream using fastboot flash image
That radio will work much better if you have signed the wavier and will work with the current rom.
Alright. I'll flash it.
I've already signed the waiver. So this should hopefully be no fuss.
Edit (a couple of hours later):
w00t!
Flashing that radio didn't brick my device. I'll conduct tests over the next day or two. Hopefully this fixes my reception problem. I want my HTC Dream back.
Thank you for all your help everyone.
I've tried testing my reception by having AndChat connected to an IRC network throughout the day. My phone still disconnects from time to time.
So as far as I can tell, my data still goes off every once in a while. When I have noticed that the data is off, I've tried making a call. In the past, when data was down, I could never make calls with the 3.22.26.17 radio. Each time I've made a call though, with the 3.22.20.17 radio, the call has gone through.
So overall, things seem somewhat better, but I can't tell for sure.
Is there a more conclusive test that I could run?
I have a Rogers Dream/G1 with T-Mobile rc29 rom (doh!), which works and is usable but I want to get back to CM5. Please show me the way or put me out of my misery if its hopeless.
Recovery hangs at Tmobile G1 screen.
Fastboot gives me "00028002 Not Allow" code then is stuck with serial0.

Tried Adb to get amon-ra 1.7.0, but still won't boot into recovery and is stuck at G1 screen. No memory error, just an immediate echo of the "flash_image recovery data/local/recovery.img" command after I hit enter.
fastboot won't show my device in cmd when at the 4colored screen but adb does recognize.
I'm pretty sure I mixed up the radio and spl, but does having access to the OS give me any options?
Please, point me in the right direction.
****SOLVED**** see Post#20 for my conclusion.
Download clockwork recovery, flash clockwork, then you'll have recovery?
Not sure tho, I think this was how I did it.
I think what you're talking about is ROM Manager, it includes Clockwork Recovery if I understand the dev's description correctly. I haven't tried it myself though.
Seems to me, that he is on a stock ROM and doesn't have root access.
If the phone is booting, a chance could be, to install 1-click-root (don't know how it is called exactly, but you can google for it) and then from there to install a custom recovery. After that, you can install CM5 or something else. Probably first I would install is an engineering SPL (1.33.2003 for example) which supports fastboot. With your current SPL you will not have a chance to get fastboot running.
But be careful: 1.33.2003 supports only radio version 1.x and 2.x. I am not sure if 1.33.2003 is the best solution for you, because you have a rogers dream.
i recomend the old way.. get the fflashrecapk. and use io file manager to flash it.. only problem is you need to be 1.5 if your on 1.6 than you need to downgrade.. but that would be difficult since you have no recovery lol
While a bit more work.. before all the how to's confuse you into bricking your phone, I'd make yourself a gold card, and use it to flash the orange nbh from the 2708+ thread.. (rename to DREAIMG.nbh and place on the goldcard, then boot with camera+power it will ask you to flash it)
Once you have the orange rom you will have fastboot and a 2.x radio.. if you don't need the 3.22 radio .. just flash the 2708+ radio+spl+hboot as per normal followed by a rom.. if you do need the 3.22 radio (rogers customer who has not signed the wavier and wishes to keep data) either flash the rogers e911 update and re-root or 1.33.2005+3.22.26.17 and a rom
Sorry lack of links.
is it rooted?
maybe you can flash the recovery through terminal
Thanks for the replies, lots to research.
I'v tried a bunch of rooting methods.
exploid pushed from ADB said it worked (but didnt)
SuperOneClick said it worked after some rapid OFF-ON-OFF-ON debugging(but didnt install superuser even after reboot)
Universal androot forcecloses on launch
flashrec has the "download cyan...." button blocked out, tried renaming amon-ra to the recovery-backup.img and it said successful, but still is stuck at g1 screen.
I found another post with someone in the same situation at:

ok ummm wow you did a lot lol are you sure you did the flaskrec.apk thing right? so as of right now your phone is not rooted? and you are on 1.0? if thats the case you should get automatic updates and hopefully that could help you.. if not try downloading rom manager than flash the clockwork recovery.. personally i hate clockwork but if you can get that to work than i could help you get back to RA if you would like..
Well its a one-click solution, I must have missed the options... I installed it and ran the back up, but the "download" button was grayed out. was I supposed to do something with the entry field?
Rom Manager gives me "Application install unsuccessful" using AndExplorer and I think Clockwork gave me this problem in the first place back when I was using CM6.

for the record
1.33.2003 is compatible with 1.x and 2.x radios but will brick with 3.x
1.33.2005 is compatible with 2.x and 3.x radios but will brick with 1.x
so 1.33.200* is only compatible with 2.x
read Ezterry's 2708 post, the answers you seek are in it
sorry for delay lol but with the flashrec file wat you do is press backup than when your typing in the box you have to put exactly what your file says...
ex.. sdcard/recovery-RA-dream-v1.0.7-cyan.img (yours could be diff but make sure you type exactly what your file says that you placed on sd card) hope it helps
You guys are awesome, thank you everyone who was interested and especially ezterry, Effdee and Idrifta for the enduring help. I'm now on CM5.0.8 2708+ and loving it.

Why ebi1 is equivalent to the old ebi0 and you loose the extra ram.
Thus unless there is a very specific reason it's a downgrade

Best stay as is or upgrade the radio to 2.22.28.25.. As it has been distributed world wide. (Including to all locations 2.22.27.08 was previously distributed)
what did you do?
I would like to know if you solved this issue as mine is similar. I DO have root though, but i have no recov/fastboot. I am using a dev phone though.

If you flashed 0.95.0000 you are no longer using a dev phone (what do you see when you boot holding camera?)
The good news is that the ADP1 used the universal CID (11111111) and is thus not restricted to a particular carriers nbh file.. so you can probably just flash the orange nbh without the goldcard [just renamed DREAIMG.nbh on the root of your SDCard], then follow the 2708+ radio instructions.. or install 1.33.2003/5 via fastboot if you need the old radio.
The reason I'm pointing to the orange nbh is it will let you bypass the whole "I bricked my phone because I insisted on flashing death SPL via recovery" since you have an engineering SPL and 2.x radio after flashing that orange NBH from the 2708+ thread.
This is what worked for me, going from:
- a non responsive recovery
- OS locked at activation, so no usb debugging
- OS refused to root
- quadicolored fastboot screen that wouldnt recognize usb
To CM5 2708+ with RA-cyan1.7.
Before this thread I had to use this to get post the verizon data plan only activation to enable usb debugging.
Made a goldcard
Put the orange nbh renamed to DREAIMG.nbh (can't remember where i got it from, just searched) on the goldcard, Booted with camera+power to get fastboot, and applied the update.
Followed ezterry's post and at step 5 flipped over to this post on CM5 2708+
Now I'm gonna update the radio using exterry's advanced zips. Thanks again everyone, another successful thread.
