Gingerbread keyboard problems - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried as many gingerbread keyboards floating around this section of the forums and all of them have a problem where if you go back and correct a word after you have entered it and correct it using suggestions instead of replacing the word in just inserts it. Example: I have the word "there" I want it to be thereby, so I click the word "there" and select thereby. Instead of replacing the word it makes it "thetherebyre"
Anyone know if there is a version of the keyboard that isn't affected by this? Or is it just something with my ROM?
I am running serendipity 5.12 with stock kernal and JL2 modem. No OC/UV
There is one keyboard in the market that works fine without this problem but the keys are too tall for my liking..
Thanks

[Q] Text input in Flash Player 10.1 not working?

When selecting input text fields in Flash applications no keyboard appears when I try. Since I cannot seem to find anyone else with the same complaint I'm unsure if it could be an issue specific to my configuration somehow. I'm using JPC, and have replaced Swype to get Swedish keyboard support.
Anyone noticed the same issue, or have a second to test it out?
Here is a page containing a basic swf with a input text field in flash:
http://www.ghostwire.com/blog/archives/as3-simple-editor-for-loading-and-saving-xml-as-binary/
Scroll down a little bit, below the text "(480×480 SWF, 2KB)" you will see an swf, provided that you are running a froyo firmware with the Flash Player.
When the swf has loaded, you'll see a large grey box which is an input text field. Touch it and the keyboard should open.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hi... I have a "similar" issue to this but am not sure exactly how related they are. I am still on 2.1 so I dont have 10.1 flash player but I get the same issue when I am on facebook using the "Skyfire" browser.
If I am trying to leave a comment on someones status for example, I can click on the text bubble and the keyboard pops up but as soon as I enter a letter the keyboard goes away and when I try to tap the text bubble again I get no keyboard at all.
Again, this souns similar and I know that skyfire is in beta still but if this is the same sort of problem you are having then I'd love for someone to explain why this is happening.
Anyone have any ideas?
When searching for anyone else with similar issues I saw that it happens to skyfire users, but I think that is unrelated. Skyfire is streaming flash content played back at their server to your device, and hence has some issues with interaction that is not related to the Flash Player as such.
If there is a way for them to open the keyboard when a text field in flash content becomes focused they probably have not got around to do that yet. They claim that their main focus is video playback, and I bet that it can be tricky to get all interactivity right.
Flash Player 10.1 should open the keyboard when a text filed is focused according to the specifications from Adobe, and considering that I don't manage to anyone complaining about issues with that I'm wondering if that is an issue unique to the Galaxy S, or even my device due to configuration issues.
If someone has a second to try the link in the OP it would really be appreciated.

I got the same issue, but found a workaround by place the cursor onto the text field, and then long press "menu" button.
Make sure the flash is not running in full screen mode.
Not a perfect solution, but at least it works.

[Q] New HTC Sense keyboard on Cyanogen

Hi,
First off thanks to all the developers. I bought a DHD a couple of weeks ago. With the help of some very useful noob guides (thanks again) its all rooted and booted, out of its shackles and ready to fly as it was meant to. I have put cyanogen6.1.0 RC2 on it and I love it.
The only issue I am having so far is to do with the keyboard. I have fat fingers and often mis type or get mis auto corrected. to fix I have to tap on the area of text I need to correct. Problem is fat fingers mean cant put the cursor exactly where I want and a few seconds of unnecessary frustration. On my previous Magic I could scrol with the roller ball.
Anyways to conclude my essay, the HTC sense keyboard that was originally on my phone had arrows that would allow me to move around (good for fat fingers) the cyanogen keyboard doesnt (not so fat finger friendly).
Is there a way I can find the HTC sense Keyboard apk and use on the cyanogen? Where do I find this file?
Sorry for the long post,
here you go this is as close as youll get to sense keyboard

Never fear things are much, much better in Gingerbread. Cyanogenmod 7 will alleviate all your woes. I've been told by the developers that it even cures cancer and of course there will be no world hunger if everyone has Gingerbread to eat.
Sent from my Gingerbread eating Desire HD.
When is CM 7 out?
@ fkofilee thanks muchos
Fat finger loving, cancer busting, sweet gingerbread crumbs in the shape of cyanogen 7 for my DHD bird! boom boom! You have my attention.
I just tried the HTC_IME_hi22. I have selected it (ticked it) in my 'Language and Keyboard' and in the settings tried to mess about with swipe gestures to move between words. No luck. The keyboard seems exactly the same as it was before and fat finger issue still persists. Do I need to somehoe deactivate the old keyboard? can I not find the apk from my sense rom and drop it into cyanogen rom?
I see you have enabled the keyboard, but have you selected it? Press and hold on text entry box and choose "Input method", then select "HTC_IME mod". Your new keyboard will now be used.
Elementary my dear watson! Thanks,
Thats exactly what I had not done! the app looks the part, but still no luck from the finger swipe and navigation arrows. Ive had a look at swype and one or two others. they dont have this navigation either. Fat fingers crossed for gingerbread
to serve this key can be changed, thanks
HTC Sense Keyboard for Incredible S/CM7
I realize this is the Desire HD forum, but I thought I would post here first before starting a new thread. I've been searching around for a while, and along with this thread, I found another (link below), that provides links to and HTC sense keyboard .apk that can be used instead of the stock CM7 keyboard. I used the Sense keyboard for almost a year on my Incredible S before I installed CM7, and so really miss the long press for special characters, as well as the auto-correct feature I came to rely on so much.
My question is, If I download and install one of these .apk's (either the one in this thread, or the thread I linked), SHOULD it work on the Incredible S, or do I need to find an .apk specific to my phone. I tired installing the one from the link, but when trying to switch to it in the Messaging app, it just force closes right away.
Apologies if there is already a thread related to this for the Incredible S. I did some searching but couldn't find anything. And of course, Thanks in advance for any help you folks can provide.

Seriously dude? There is a Q&A thread for things like this for one and yout question has nothing to do with themes.
You can just download gingerbread keyboard from the market and enable it from settings.

Got it.
Thanks

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but the HTC_IME_hi22 actually worked on my RaZr. Only problem, there is a bit of a gap on the right side. So the keyboard seems to be slightly 'left aligned' badly put.
Can any1 help me with this. Am on RaZr, qHD screen.

How smart are you?

Nobody seems to be able to answer this:
What controls the "special" letters in the STOCK SAMSUNG keyboard? i.e. æåø or other characters that most countries have in their alphabet.
I wonder about this because i have tried just transfering the same keyboard to different roms. On the stock js5 i get the characters, but not on other custom roms, so there must been some other files that control this.
Remember, before u answer this... i said stock samsung keyboard, and not any other keyboard that might have the characters
Peace
i dun have an answer but .. i think those rom/kernel makers in the development forum are more likely to be able to answer this ....
guess i am smart ;P got it
Not that I am smart, just interested: what was the answer?
It's simple.
There are particular letters that have a '...' after then. For example, if you press down A, then the popup is 'A...' and a long press opens out all the options.
But not all keys have alternate symbols. Only The top line, ie, qwertyuiop, and A,S,C,N and a few others.
Check it out!
edit: Im on stock 2.2 DDJP6 by the way.
I guess i'm not smart, couse i don't get it.
Don't ask dumb question to smart people

The title of this thread seems weird to me, where did you post asking about this and nobody was able to answer your question?
It's very simply : special characters and T9 dictionaries are in system/T9DB folder -about 4mb size.Samsung keyboard also require lib file LibXT9core.so

Request. Android Keyboard

For comm rom ukb 2.0 please. In the previous versions i could simply drop the latinime.apk in /apps and latinime.so in /lib and reboot and it would replace the gb keyboard with the stock android keyboard.. It doesnt work with UKB 2.0. i cant stand the gb or samsung or swype keyboards.
+1. I miss the android kb so much.
For those that like it ( I don't understand how one wouldn't want to use a multitouch kb... but personal preference I suppose) you will have to delete the kb in system /app... there was a naming error where it got named latinime.apk.apk so that's why the newer kb won't over write it
if i have a stock rom and wanted to use the keyboard from commrom, can i just swap the LatinIME file or is there any other file needed? thanks

yes, but i named the one in com rom incorrectly so its LatinIME.apk.apk...so either rename it or delete ur existing latineime in systema/app before pushing the com rom one
no dice, "The application Gingerbread Keyboard has stopped unexpectedly"
it shows up in the settings but keeps force closing. oh well.

did you push the lib file for it too?
Yeah i missed that step, all good now, thanks
one more question, i saw this thread where you posted an AOSP lockscreen file for the Charge, could i use that same file for the fascinate? also is it only that file necessary to replace?

no, it wont work on the fascinate...sbrissen has it integrated into the tsm parts which is flashable over the deodexed rom
Thanks nitsuj17. what is multitouch and why is it so great? I find the new keyboards rather horribke to be honest.
Yay for Android keyboard! I wish it were at least an option in the rom but at least it's still working now.

because the gingerbread keyboard that we include has the package name as latinime under the hood it will always replace stock android...id imagine if we edited the apk it would work for both, but then we could run into other random issues
The Gingerbread keyboard *is* now the "stock Android keyboard," too. It's just newer than the one the Fascinate comes with.

Stock for GB. Not stock for Froyo. The Froyo keyboard is so much easier to type on. Its clean and simple. Cleaner than the GB kb.

Well that's up to each personal opinion on which is more useful... however the gb kb is multitouch whereas stock is not... so in practice gb is more practical
but hey everyone has their own preference

again i ask, what is multitouch...
**edit* so i googled it...and it looks pretty much useless....i can type faster with two fingers than i can holding down the first letter and typing out the rest with one finger...seems a bit retarded actually to hold one letter

Like I said to each his own
But the majority of people out there will prefer / type better on gb than older stock

I think multi-touch means you can continue typing while a finger is still on a letter, thus equaling faster typing, whereas on a non-multitouch keyboard your finger has to be completely off the screen in order to type another letter. It's better for people that press a key faster than they remove their finger off of the previous one. It's not just holding one key down and then typing the rest; it's adding better functionality. But as previously stated, to each his own.

[Q] Did continuum kill phonemypc?

I'm having the stangest bug pop up on phonemypc. I have used it often but recently it multiplies what I type in the strangest way. I'll try to explain but it's strange. whichever letter I type it types out each letter I typed before in addition to the letter for instance if I typed the word "stone" it would come out as "sstsstosstsstonsstsstosstsstone" this is how it happens letter by letter.
1.s -i typed s
2.sst -i typed t
3.sstssto -i typed o
4.sstsstosstsston - i typed n
5.sstsstosstsstonsstsstosstsstone - i typed n
All I can say for certain is that It never happened on froyo. I always used DG roms like cognition or perception but now I'm using continuum 6.1. I also used perception II but I don't remember if I tried phonemypc while I was using it. I'm not sure if this is a gingerbread bug or a continuum bug. I also have problems with splashtop remote desktop but it is a different issue where I cannot type at all or the text takes very long to register.
has anyone had a similar problem or thinks they know what happens.
Has anyone even experienced this issue before? even on a PC?

happened to me when word suggestion and auto-complete was on.
Try to turn it off. No idea how to solve it.
Hey, can you tell me what Keyboard you're using? We've had 2 other such reports, both using Flext9. We are still looking into that. Your input may help us figure it out more quickly.
Reply here, or email [email protected].
Cheers!
I have used the gingerbread keyboard that came with the rom and the gingerbread keyboard from the market. I never thought to change the keyboard. Might it provide a temporary fix if I switch to the samsung keyboard or some other?
We've not heard of anybody having problems with those keyboards, but so far, all "key repeat" issues have been keyboard related. Please try another, and let us know your result.
I'll try that out next time I flash a gingerbread rom. I'm back to froyo for now because I need phonemypc.
