**BEFORE READING------I was running the official 2.2 Froyo for the I9000M****
Ok so this morning i wanted to play music on my SGS, i clicked a song that i usually play and today it said something along the lines of "phone doesnt support this type of file" so i powered off/on and when i did half my apps were missing, i didnt have market, or even youtube. I only had my camera and internet and random applications.
I went to settings>Applications and everything was still installed, just not showing up. I powered off, took out battery/sim and replaced them, turned it back on, and was stuck on an infinite boot logo loop -_-.
I got into recovery and decided to format my phone and then reboot....which didnt help. After that i went searching for a fix with Odin but couldnt get it to work.
Odin froze on me...Bricking my phone(bringing it to the picture of the phone trying to connect to the PC)
I CANT enter recovery mode but I CAN get into download mode
I really need help since im not too advanced with android
All help is appreciated and i thank you guys in advanced
PLEASE help me out i really dont want to send it into repair for 2 weeks +
That makes 3 of us in the last day or so this has happened to , I went to the new bell 2.2 updates using kies and not long after this all happened. Now I have tried loading many different firmwares and I cant get away from the looping bootscreen.....this blows. I will never use kies again or bell firmwares
Official path would be a Samsung service centre .
Or flash to Eclair via Odin first if ok then upgrade to 2.2 .

i recently flashed my samsung captivate with i9000 froyo jp3 firmware, with the i9000 pda and csc with odin..everything was working fine except obviously sound bug and no home button, but i restarted it today and it wont get past the galaxy s screen and then goes black and randomly vibrates. was unable to enter download mode, im holding volume up and down together and then plug in usb but it wont go to download mode and just brings up battery charging screen, since this is only way to get to download mode to flash back since i cant boot up the device completely to run usb mass storage to run adb....any ideas or anything im doing wrong to get into download mode? or is my captivate now bricked? i was gonna try deleting user data but i dont want to enter recovery mode cause its running i9000 firmware so i wouldnt be able to select anything or is there another way that im not thinking of?
okay got it into download mode, since its i9000 firmware i had to hold down power+volume down to enter download mode.
also im running on jf6 rom and market doesnt seem to working all the time, and sometimes in the notification bar it pops up with random downloads from the market but they say download unsuccessful, but i never clicked any of them to start downloading, anyone have that happen to them before....this phone has been great but lately ive noticed alot of software problems with it especially from the android market, is this typical of the captivate or should i think about a warranty replacement?
Hi all. (pardon my english)
I've been looking through this forum for a few hours now and I think I couldnt find a solution to my problem. My phone wont boot. In order to make this easy for you guys to diagnose. Ill brief as much as I could remember of what I did to my phone
I followed this instruction on how install froyo from this link androidadvices dot com/update-samsung-galaxy-s-gt-i9000-to-froyo-xxjpy-2-2-1/
I have a samsung galaxy s I9000. As I recall before I did any modification it was on eclair AND yesterday I installed one click lag fix which I downloaded from the android market which meant i've rooted my phone.
TODAY, I tried installing voodoo (for the lag fix) and from the link above it states that I need to have my phone to run firmware XXJPY. I installed ODIN and when asked for a PIT file I've entered the one from the downloaded .zip file (which is the wrong file I think!?), still it says "pass!" and after that I couldn't boot
Oh one more thing. What happens if I fully bricked my phone? If send it to the seller, what will the seller do?
I've tried the 3 combo, 2 combo and 2 combo button with usb cable but still wont work. Can anyone help pleaseeeee.......
Looks like you have lagfixed your phone .
I installed one click lag fix
You then failed to remove the lagfix before flashing your phone breaking phone .
Try via Odin reflash with pit 512 and repartition checked .
That fails do the same but use 2.1 Eclair
You cannot have two lagfixes One Click Lag Fix and Voodoo lagfix .
Oh one more thing. What happens if I fully bricked my phone? If send it to the seller, what will the seller do?
REJECT it broken warranty if they can prove unauthorized modifications but that does depend upon the symptoms it shows a dead phone may just get a correct flash from service centre .

correct me if i'm wrong but based on what i read i don't think he did any unauthorized modification. just tried to go from eclair to froyo.
ok here's an update, I managed boot it to download again and installed the proper 512.pit. Odin says "pass". On tutorial link I given it says
"So, now once you see the above screen with a Green box showing PASS! in the Odin then it means that your device has been successfully installed with the new firmware XXJPY 2.2.1 stock and is now safe for you to remove the USB cable from your phone and now you need to boot your device. Now after successful installation of the new firmware its now time to optimize your device with new firmware so that your phone becomes faster and zippier. First turn off your device, long press the volume up key, press Menu as holding both the buttons press the power button to start."
the difference with my phone is that its switched off instantly after downloading (right after it says "pass!"). When I press volume up + menu + start, it wont start Hope this could do some help.....
correct me if i'm wrong but based on what i read i don't think he did any unauthorized modification. just tried to go from eclair to froyo
Not through any Samsung channels .
As i said looks like you installed a rom with a lagfix enabled and that has broke your update .
Now after successful installation of the new firmware its now time to optimize your device with new firmware so that your phone becomes faster and zippier. First turn off your device, long press the volume up key, press Menu as holding both the buttons press the power button to start.
Dont know where thats coming from at all its nonsense in respect of rebooting an updated phone .
Update via Odin installs pass then phone should reboot if not take out battery for a while then press on button wait until boots .
The forum is littered with the correct instructions but its the lagfix that breaks an update lagfix off before update .
As i said flash to Eclair with repartition and 512 pit should fix the problem .

It might pay you to go back to the forum you got these instructions from .
Or as i said download and flash according to XDA

Flash it with Eclair XXJM1 with 512pit. Remember the three boxes must be checked. i.e. Re-partition,Auto Reboot & Force Reset Time.
Then Flash with Froyo 2.2.1 (XXJPY) and this time No Pit & No Auto partition.
It will hardly take 15mins for both.
You're done!
I has problem D:
galaxy S i9000 wont boot anymore. Ive tried everything. i think. any suggestions as to what I can do?
Link to video explaining the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4tgIWcCSBg
PLEASE PLEASE HELP
Ok so my phone is rooted, i installed anim mod and when i was installing one of the mods from the app i had to reboot. i rebooted but the phone loaded up as far as the Galaxy S logo and then went black and the lights of the buttons stayed on.
Ok so i could get into the recovery mode, but i tried all the options there tried clearing everything and it said it did but everytime i rebooted same thing kept happening.
So finally after freaking out i got on youtube and found a video called "How To Restore The Samsung Captivate To Factory Firmware With Odin3 One Click Downloader". not realising captivate isnt exactly the same phone as gt i9000. (sorry cant post the link)
I downloaded the drivers and started using odin3 one click downloader. so i got into download mode then plugged in usb and done the fix but...
Now im stuck with a screen flashing saying "at&t world phone" and neither the recovery mode or download mode will work at all i tried numerous times.
Experts please i would be so grateful if you could help me out
also my warranty is obv void now im guessing, is there a way of paying samsung to get it fixed or do i need a warranty or can i buy a warranty??
Thanks guys

Can we presume that you do know how to access download mode ??
and you have followed the instructions for download recovery with the jig .
If so and it fails you need a Samsung Service Centre .

Hi there,
To brief the story:
Tried to upgrade my Rogers Captivate non-root Froyo to Gingerbread trough Kies the first attempt failed as after 30 min there was no progress on the installation bar, I disconnected the phone and restarted it, it booted up well and again I tried to upgrade. This time the bar filled up to 10% and then the screen on my phone went all Pink!! and the progress got stuck, then the phone was in semi-bricked state. I tried to flash back to 2.2 stock ROM on Odin 3 v1.82 the progress failed half way with a all purple screen (the green bar on Odin was almost at the beginning of the procedure). I thought to get it into DL mode once more to see if I could succeed but no DL mode anymore, all I get is random dots all over the screen!! and even when it gets connected on COM, ODIN cannot reach it anymore and it fails at Setup Connection. My belief is that my phone is bricked totally, but wanted to see if anybody on XDA has any thoughts for this.
Thanks for the help and time in advance.
Chrs.
Sounds to me like a faulty connection. Try another USB port or another cable?
Try heimdall..and another cable

your phone is not bricked. if it were bricked it would not turn on.
the pixilated screen means there is no params.lfs file on the phone anymore.
if you can get into download mode the phone can be saved.
try flashing the ATT one-click odin first... and rogers 2.2 after.
if still not working....
then i would try another USB cable, yours might have a bad connection.
next i would try another computer.
If anyone know trussello does.

Thank you guys for all the responses.
I guess I found the cure for it. I plugged the phone into the power and after a while (5 min or so) the screen turned all white (the same as all pink and all purple thing which if one notices can see the very blurry shade of the notification bar on top!). I turned it off and try the volume up and down DL mode method, it turned on in the same all white screen, I started the Odin and voila, it passed the setup connection step (cannot relate the connecting to the power with the resolution I got in any way!!!). I got the stock version back now wanna try to root and clean up the mess.
Chrs,
BTW I am trying to update it to the most recent gingerbread version Rogers provided:
- in Kies it shows I-896!! although I used the Froyo stock version posted in Xda by TRusselo
- Therefore it doesn't recognize my phone and therefore I cannot flash the recent update
- does anyone have a stock version of the most recent 2.3.3 update handy?
another problem I got into is that I cannot browse all my media file in storage mode, out of 2000+ pictures it only browses 900 and even I cannot copy those as it seems unreachable
any suggestions/clues?
the roger captivate IS the i896 the i897 is the att.
you may want to check out your csc version read here in this thread....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17835946#post17835946
trying the 2.1 (toronto) version couldnt hurt either

ATT is i897 Rogers is i896.
Yes, but as TRusselo pointed out the CSC is missing so that is why it just shows I896.
Before getting into fixing the CSC I need to copy all my gallery files. I can browse them on my cell and swipe through all in the gallery but cannot copy them through neither of the connection modes.
-For Kies Update and Media modes it takes ages to cache the images but it fails to get all of them and then even fails to copy
- mass storage only browse 900 out of 2000+ where I cannot copy them
any solution for this?
Thx for all the help.
Trussello, a few things...
1. The guy who released that has 22 posts, no track record
2. That's a heimdall pacakge, not Odin
3. My one-click is much easier.
4. The only reason my package is tagged beta is because Heimdall is not fully operative for flashing PIT files. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1266172

OOPS posted wrong link!! somehow.... never seen that one before!

Hi there, I am new to this forum as I am trying to fix my gf's Samsung Galaxy S i9000M on Bell.
I tried to search up boot loop and have tried a few different ideas on the board but it doesn't seem to work.
Would like to know if anyone can help.
Here are the specs: Samsung Galaxy S i9000M - unrooted / stock.
Problem: The phone when turned on will only show the "Samsung Galaxy S I9000M" screen. It will turn black and then reloop itself. I have tried the 3 button boot to "download mode" and have successfully connected to ODIN.
I have tried to download PDA/Phone/CSC from one of the pages on this forum containing North American firmware files.
However, the problem still persists! I cannot check the OS version as I can't get the phone to boot into the OS. Is this a bootloader corruption problem? What should I do to try to fix this issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! THANK YOU in advance.
I assume you want Gingerbread?
If so, you want the UGKG3 download from Bell (it's the only GB ROM from Bell to date).
Go here and search for UGKG3.
The file is in 7Zip format. If you do not have anything to unpack it with, download IZArc.
Thanks for responding so quickly.
I did try the GB firmware - flashed it with ODIN - the software says successful.
But once the phone boots - it goes back into the loop - it does not know to unpack the OS to try to install and boot into it....
Any other ideas? Thanks again!
Did you flash it as a single file or 3 files?
You need to unpack the 7Zip file so you end up with 3 files:
Select PDA_UGKG3_Sbl.tar.md5 for PDA
Select CSC_BMCKG3.tar.md5 for CSC
Select PHONE_UGKG3.tar.md5 PHONE
Then flash with Odin. That should get the phone up and running again.
---------- Post added at 11:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:17 PM ----------
How long has she had the phone? I wonder if she was on Froyo or GB.
Can you get into the recovery menu?
Thanks for your response.
I have unpacked all three files and loaded it into ODIN as per the firmware upgrade instructions on the thread you provided me.
I have also tried loading in both both the GB and the Froyo versions (UGKG3, UGJK3). After the "successful" message on ODIN, the phone boots up - shows the Samsung Galaxy GT I9000M screen and then goes black and keeps looping again.
I have a feeling this made me a problem with the bootloader. If the phone is completely stock, which one should i try flashing?
As the phone is stock there isn't a recovery (CWM) that i know of.... Or am I incorrect?
thanks again for your help!
OK, thanks for the clarification.
There should be the stock recovery from Samsung (2e or 3e).
Yes, it does sound like a bootloader problem.
Is it still under warranty?
EDIT: What is the build date for the phone? There will be a number in YY.MM format under the battery.
See if you can get into the recovery and try to clear the cache. That may give an indication as to what is going on.
We've had the phone for a year and a few months, so no more warranty.
In fact, we brought it back to bell store and they said there is "no way" the phone can be fixed. (yea right).
So I see a bunch of bootloaders in the forum here. Are there specific ones that work for the GT i9000M on bell? Or since I've tried flashing gb on the phone, do I need to download one that is specific to the OS? sorry as I am quite a n00b at this.
thanks!
The 3 file ROMs include a boot loader.
The GB one for Bell only includes the secondary bootloader (sbl.bin).
Bell no longer sells the i9000m, so they are hoping you'll simply buy a new one.
Your GFs phone is a couple of months older than ours. I bet the phone is one of the ones that has the issue where the internal storage is known to fail (builds prior to 11.03).
If that's the case, I think Samsung may repair/replace it, since it's a known issue with the early i9000m phones.
Did the phone get updated via Kies recently?
thanks again for following up.
How do I test if the phone's internal storage failed?
No I have not tried to update the phone via KIES. How does this work and what will it do?
Thanks!
Going into recovery and clearing the cache might show it.
If you see an error message that it can't mount something, that would be an indication.
EDIT: What's the build code?
I can't get into a recovery mode because the phone doesn't have CWM nor can I get by even the Samsung screen when it first turns on.
How do you flash via KIES? All I can do is get the phone into download mode. Can't do anything more.
Thanks.
Boot loop on stock Bell GT-I9000M
I have the same issue and still trying to find a solution.
Can't get into recovery. From most of what I read it's the boot loader. But I may be wrong, I 'm very new to this. I flashed with I9000UGKG3-homebinary with no luck. I did not however try the Sbl.bin file yet. I can still get to the Download mode and don't want to loose that ability.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

although you do not have CWM you should have a stock recovery... I know you have probably already tried.. but try again.
Menu+Power+Volume up...release only the power button as soon as the initial screen disappears.
if you do get into this screen you can do full wipes...
--pm me if you live in the Toronto area
It also might be a boot loader problem depending on what version of of android you were on and what you tried to do with odin and if you had the right version with the bootloaders etc.....

As dlockhart said, you should have the stock recovery on the phone.
Since you can get into download mode, you should be able to get into recovery mode by pressing volume up+home+power button.
Flashing through Kies only works if your phone will actually boot.
Since the phone is constantly boot looping, i tried to go into the stock recovery mode multiple times with the volume up + menu + power combination. Tried releasing the power button when the words are on the screen, when it is blank, and other permutations - but i cannot get into the stock recovery.
Once i press the volume down button instead though, i can quickly jump into download mode.
Is this normal? or am i doing something completely wrong?
Is there another way to get into stock recovery mode?
Don't release the power button until you see the recovery screen.
maybe also try flashing another kernel?
Boot loop on stock Bell GT-I9000M
I have tried to get to the recovery screen also with varied timing on button presses and releases, but no luck. Vol down and power gets me to download screen every time though.
I would keep trying the volume up power and home and as soon as you see the black background with galaxy showing let go of all buttons but wait until you see it restart again. So you'll hold vol. up + power + home and your phone will restart and you'll see the galaxy words keep holding the buttons until it restarts again and when you see the words let go of all three buttons. Now if your willing to switch kernels I would go to www.darkyrom.com and follow the directions there for flashing darkyrom 10.4.2 its just as smooth as stock but its not stock and voids your waranty, but since you dont have a waranty go for it. Good luck if you need any extra help you can pm me as well. I have had my phone since Oct. 2010 and flashed atleast a hundred roms and thought i broke my phone a few times but these thing are damn near impossible to totally mess up.

Is there a minimum remaining battery-life requirement for the device to enter Recovery?
Does the 3-button Recovery require power cable to be attached or not?
For what its worth, my I9000m has a Build Date of 11.04 and came with Froyo 2.2, so unless he already updated he's definitely not on 2.3.3
Downloading Kies to your PC and updating to 2.3.3 that way, just might work. Thats what I did.
