Hi all. (pardon my english)
I've been looking through this forum for a few hours now and I think I couldnt find a solution to my problem. My phone wont boot. In order to make this easy for you guys to diagnose. Ill brief as much as I could remember of what I did to my phone
I followed this instruction on how install froyo from this link androidadvices dot com/update-samsung-galaxy-s-gt-i9000-to-froyo-xxjpy-2-2-1/
I have a samsung galaxy s I9000. As I recall before I did any modification it was on eclair AND yesterday I installed one click lag fix which I downloaded from the android market which meant i've rooted my phone.
TODAY, I tried installing voodoo (for the lag fix) and from the link above it states that I need to have my phone to run firmware XXJPY. I installed ODIN and when asked for a PIT file I've entered the one from the downloaded .zip file (which is the wrong file I think!?), still it says "pass!" and after that I couldn't boot
Oh one more thing. What happens if I fully bricked my phone? If send it to the seller, what will the seller do?
I've tried the 3 combo, 2 combo and 2 combo button with usb cable but still wont work. Can anyone help pleaseeeee.......
Looks like you have lagfixed your phone .
I installed one click lag fix
You then failed to remove the lagfix before flashing your phone breaking phone .
Try via Odin reflash with pit 512 and repartition checked .
That fails do the same but use 2.1 Eclair
You cannot have two lagfixes One Click Lag Fix and Voodoo lagfix .
Oh one more thing. What happens if I fully bricked my phone? If send it to the seller, what will the seller do?
REJECT it broken warranty if they can prove unauthorized modifications but that does depend upon the symptoms it shows a dead phone may just get a correct flash from service centre .

correct me if i'm wrong but based on what i read i don't think he did any unauthorized modification. just tried to go from eclair to froyo.
ok here's an update, I managed boot it to download again and installed the proper 512.pit. Odin says "pass". On tutorial link I given it says
"So, now once you see the above screen with a Green box showing PASS! in the Odin then it means that your device has been successfully installed with the new firmware XXJPY 2.2.1 stock and is now safe for you to remove the USB cable from your phone and now you need to boot your device. Now after successful installation of the new firmware its now time to optimize your device with new firmware so that your phone becomes faster and zippier. First turn off your device, long press the volume up key, press Menu as holding both the buttons press the power button to start."
the difference with my phone is that its switched off instantly after downloading (right after it says "pass!"). When I press volume up + menu + start, it wont start Hope this could do some help.....
correct me if i'm wrong but based on what i read i don't think he did any unauthorized modification. just tried to go from eclair to froyo
Not through any Samsung channels .
As i said looks like you installed a rom with a lagfix enabled and that has broke your update .
Now after successful installation of the new firmware its now time to optimize your device with new firmware so that your phone becomes faster and zippier. First turn off your device, long press the volume up key, press Menu as holding both the buttons press the power button to start.
Dont know where thats coming from at all its nonsense in respect of rebooting an updated phone .
Update via Odin installs pass then phone should reboot if not take out battery for a while then press on button wait until boots .
The forum is littered with the correct instructions but its the lagfix that breaks an update lagfix off before update .
As i said flash to Eclair with repartition and 512 pit should fix the problem .
jje
It might pay you to go back to the forum you got these instructions from .
Or as i said download and flash according to XDA

ok i got it to boot with eclair. I downloaded asia (cause I thought international I9000 are separated by region )and I got chinese version (which I couldnt understand!) lol. Which one do I download? I want english!
btw, thanks for the help!
nvm! solved!

Flash it with Eclair XXJM1 with 512pit. Remember the three boxes must be checked. i.e. Re-partition,Auto Reboot & Force Reset Time.
Then Flash with Froyo 2.2.1 (XXJPY) and this time No Pit & No Auto partition.
It will hardly take 15mins for both.
You're done!
I has problem D:
galaxy S i9000 wont boot anymore. Ive tried everything. i think. any suggestions as to what I can do?

Hi
Has anyone discovered how to solve the problem of the black screen after logo S
the phone is dead?
Everything started suddenly. I think the voodoo lagfix was failed and the phone
froze. I rebooted but it stayed at the Logo S and I could here the robot voice
of the voodoo lagfix trying to do something.
I left the phone for few hours but nothing. I did that few times.
Then I decided to flash it with Odin.
After 10 flashes with different firmwares and different pit
the phone at the first boot was going to the recovery and was saying
that it can not mount the flash block. I could not even wipe the partitions because
of the mount problem. When I was starting the phone it was going to the Logo S
and then black screen and it was dead.
After flashing with Heidel I was able to overcome the mount problem
but again the phone was dead after the Logo S.
Do you know how to overcome this dead situation after the logo S?
I want to flash it with any ROM as long as it works and then I will reflash it with Kies.
I also tried to flash it with Kies during download mode but Kies keeps trying
to find it but at the end it fails.
I have a 3 button phone but for some reason I am unable to properly flash it.
Any suggestions before I throw the phone out of the window??
Thanks
You are experiencing the sdcard corruption problem. No way to fix it. Phone needs to be replaced. No way to fix it.
I though the repartition in Odin does that thing.
Is there any hack which will repartion and format the internal SD card?
Ive had this happen a number of times. Dont know what causes it, but I find that if I limit the amount of extra mods, I seem to be ok. Extra Mods, like Lag Fix (my Bell seems just fine without it running on jpk), and anything that really involves modifying the system files... But gotta love you guys that work on these things, you keep the scene alive.
Anyway what I do to fix that problem is Flash back to TMobile Vibrant ROM and for whatever reason it works for me. Filename that I use is T959UVJFD, forget where I got it, but its on here somewhere. I have only ever used pit 512, and if I have to, I go back to JH2 or JM8 modem and CSC.
Id try it without flashing the Radio and CSC first, if it doesnt work try changing them.
Good Luck,
By the way I am now running JPK, using the JH2 radio and CSC and have the 850 band on Bell (at least I think I have it, my phone normally runs on 1900), rooted, and no other mods.
So you are saying that you recovered from this black screen and can't mount the dbdata?
Interesting.
I will try it. I dont care if the rom does not really work. I want the rom to re-format
the internal SD. After that I will flash my nandroid.
I think we need a debugging kernel which we can flash it and it can give us all the necessery utilities i.e. parted, kernel with all file system support, nandroid,
applying the update.zip from the external sd etc
I will post the result later. I hope your trick to work
unfortunatelly I have the same results
For a moment I thought I can see something.
I had shell so I did the adb shell and I could see the redbend_us
which I think it is from the voodoo lag fix.
After the second reboot I lost everything.
I flashed it with the rom you suggested but with everything.
I will try without the modem but I think it will not make any difference
sounds like you have this problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793404
i also face this situation . . what i done was
1. install JM8 over stock firmware
2. then tayutama ROM with voodoo lag fix v 1.1
3. after my phone works well and i was happy
4. then i do factory reset cause of my internet doesnt work but market works
5. then i got some weird massages on my phone . . they keep coming
6. i decided to flash again with JM8 . .
7. i flashed the phone then the these thing coming to me
boot animation and after black screen . . . . .ive flashes four times with JM8 but didn't worked
ive then decided to do some froyo build on the dead phone
then i flash my phone over JPK with 803.pit
successfully flashed but on recovery screen stops with some error
then i reflashed it with JPK + 512.pit . . .
then my phone booted and runinng JPK
thats cools down my hart . . . .still i remember that 1 hour with no screen phone
now using JPK + Doc's ROM with OCLF v2+
abt JPK its cool with new features . . . . .
i think lag fixes done some thing when we flash . . .
think we have to remove lag fix before the flash
but how ?????
I tried to flash with the JPK as you suggested with 512 and 813 pit
and at both times it gave me the error
it can't mount the dbdata and sd
Of course as usual goes to Logo S and then I have the Black screen of death
Hmmm, kinda strange. I have never used the Voodoo fix, but have played with the One-Click fix since not using it my phone seems much more stable. Not sure if it is related.
Anyway did you try a Wipe after flashing the TMobile Rom? And in recovery does it still give you the errors? If memory serves me correct after flashing that ROM, the errors I was getting in Recovery mode were gone.
Did you try JPK with repartion enable . . .try it with 803 first and after 512 . .
think it will work remember to repartion enables
I tried everything. I think I flashed me phone more than 20 times.
Yesterday I tried it flash it with Kies assuming kies will format the internal SD.
THere is a registry key for emergency mode and I enabled it.
I put my phone in download mode and kies detected it and start flashing with the
original firmware.
When the procedure finished kies powered off the phone.
That was the last time I saw my phone alive.
I can not power it on. It is dead.
I dont know what Kies did to the phone but the phone is dead
Now I have to send it to Samsung
i saw one like this for vibrant but need something for the captivate.
i was updating roms and i didn't realize that it had voodoo. and updated to there latest rom
my phone wont boot except into download mode
i want to use the jf6 rom so i can update using kies to hide my tracks when i send it into repair
Odin.10chars
i have done this but my phone doesn't work like before. its damaged. i go to update via samsung keis and it says it is an unregistered device.
and update via the included software update tool says update failed
any ideas??
You flashed using Odin one click? And it said successful?
no just using regular odin v1.0 with the actual rom from samfirmware
and yes it was successful

Try the one click then.
Used odin and the phone looks a little better. But samsung kies says "unregistered device".
At&t firmware update failed also
I see there are a lot of problems when flashing i9000 roms on the captivate
I need help also I have flashed I9000 on may captivate and every thing goes fine after that I have tried to install root to fix orientation problem and used GalaxyS_One-Click_Root_All_Models but it got into recovery mode and the volume up and down works and change the selection while power button can't select any Item and Every time I restart the device it goes into recovery mode .!!!!!!
Can any one help going out from recovery mode ???!!!!!
I was having the same problem I think mine had something to do with the usb port either it was physically damaged or something else was going on I finally got it as close to stock as I could turned the phone off and took it to att rep so it would only boot into download mode, he scratched his head then handed me a new one.
My phone is frozen at the GalaxyS i9000 screen and just keeps flashing, I have no idea what has happened or how to fix.
Any suggestions on how i may be able to recover from this mode? I have not installed or flashed any custom roms I do not know how , got this way through some horrible app.
You need to get a copy of ODIN, its a program used to flash different ROM's to your phone. You'll also need a ROM/Firmware. You can find ODIN and a list of many factory/default ROM's here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913
If you live in USA/Canada, I suggest I9000UGJL2, its the standard Android 2.2 ROM that would have came with your phone.
Open and Run ODIN, in the PIT section select the 512 pit file (i believe it is the partition information table, someone can correct me if i'm wrong). Also, in the PDA section, select the I9000UGJL2 ROM. Put your phone in Download Mode by turning it off, pressing Vol down + home + power. Once the download screen appears, connect to your PC, and you'll notice a yellow icon will be lit up in ODIN (meaning your phone is detected).
After that, press start, and it should flash a new ROM to your phone.
That being said, I just returned my phone to Bell because of an internal SD failure. Basically - the SD memory that the ROM's are written to (using ODIN) is corrupt, and cannot be written to - meaning I cannot load any OS onto my phone.
Factory reset first .
That fails if its under warranty take it to a service centre .
No joy then mess with flashing new roms is the path i would take .

I only need two file paths in two of the columns available?

Hello everyone,
Two days ago I try to make a firmware update to Gingerbread trough Kies.
After everything is finished the phone start, shows the main logo (the white one), start that animation with "S" and come on a black screen. Time to time he vibrate 2 or 3 times and only the back and menu buttons are illuminated.
1. Cannot use 3 buttons to get into download or recovery mode
2. Cannot put the phone in USB debugging (obviously)
3. For unknown reason I cannot instal ADB drivers (win7 shows the yellow triangle)
4. Samsung drivers are installed on Modem and USB (shows Samsung)
5. On "devices" , can be seen but again no ADB
6. ODIN see it on com8 but again for some reasons it wont work (probably because he work in download mode )
7. SDK is installed
8. ADB shows "no devices found"
9. No other button combination works (home+down , up+down +battery in + USB plugged ... etc)
Any suggestion/help ?
Thank you very much for reading and hopefully Ill get some help
Best regards,
Andrew
Have you tried "emergency reset" or whats it called in Kies?
Did you have the 3-button combo before the flash?
If so try to remove the battery and then with it removed press the combo and insert the battery-
Maybe you refer to that in number 8?
A JIG will for sure help you to get into download mode.
Good luck.
/qsec
Hello and thank you,
3 buttons combo didnt work before
Kies stays with the status "connecting" but no phone shows up in it.
Thankx,
Andrew
You in the UK .
Gingerbread no update via Kies its not released yet .
Kies has Firmware recovery or some such tab.
Was your phone lagfixed ..
Did your phone have custom rom .
Current condition of phone looks like you need download recovery jig from front page .
Or if no lagfix no custom rom then Samsung service centre failed Kies flash .
jje
Yes lag fixed OCLF
And Kies said something about firmware update. I do have Froyo 2.2 and the logical thing was Ginger so thats why i thought it is.
Thank you,
Andrew

Never had any problems with lagfix, but i guess if you do things in the wrong order without removing it before upgrading.
OP, did you follow any instructions, or just do it blind?
Never had any problems with lagfix
Your choice but failing to remove lagfix before flashing is a well posted problem on XDA .

This is very true.
It was stupid of me flashing with lag fix installed evendo I read that YOU MUST remove lagfix before do it ....

Andrew

Worse, you flashed without enabling 3 button combo prior. Due to that you're unable to get into download nor recovery mode unfortunately. So unless that emergency firmware option in Kies won't help you will have to build or buy yourself a jig dongle/cable which is plugged into the phone by USB to force download mode. Check on ebay UK, there are surely some people selling professionally built ones for just a few pounds (got one myself from US for just $7 or so).
Once you have that, re-flash with Odin.
And once your phone is OK again, get that 3 button combo working! I used this method successfully. Soft bricked the first time thanks to using USB hub instead of direct USB as it wasn't mentioned in the stickies sadly. Yet thanks to the Jig I got prior I tried again and flashed my phone to enable 3 button combo forever.
P.S.: there is something else very vital I came across recently and am glad I saw it in time: backup of the /efs folder which contains IMEI etc:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859914
(I hope that's mentioned in the stickies somwhere but if so I would have seen it unless I missed one)
After reading in these forums for hours before trying my very first flashing I might want to write a comprehensive guide...
Hi there, I am new to this forum as I am trying to fix my gf's Samsung Galaxy S i9000M on Bell.
I tried to search up boot loop and have tried a few different ideas on the board but it doesn't seem to work.
Would like to know if anyone can help.
Here are the specs: Samsung Galaxy S i9000M - unrooted / stock.
Problem: The phone when turned on will only show the "Samsung Galaxy S I9000M" screen. It will turn black and then reloop itself. I have tried the 3 button boot to "download mode" and have successfully connected to ODIN.
I have tried to download PDA/Phone/CSC from one of the pages on this forum containing North American firmware files.
However, the problem still persists! I cannot check the OS version as I can't get the phone to boot into the OS. Is this a bootloader corruption problem? What should I do to try to fix this issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! THANK YOU in advance.
I assume you want Gingerbread?
If so, you want the UGKG3 download from Bell (it's the only GB ROM from Bell to date).
Go here and search for UGKG3.
The file is in 7Zip format. If you do not have anything to unpack it with, download IZArc.
Thanks for responding so quickly.
I did try the GB firmware - flashed it with ODIN - the software says successful.
But once the phone boots - it goes back into the loop - it does not know to unpack the OS to try to install and boot into it....
Any other ideas? Thanks again!
Did you flash it as a single file or 3 files?
You need to unpack the 7Zip file so you end up with 3 files:
Select PDA_UGKG3_Sbl.tar.md5 for PDA
Select CSC_BMCKG3.tar.md5 for CSC
Select PHONE_UGKG3.tar.md5 PHONE
Then flash with Odin. That should get the phone up and running again.
---------- Post added at 11:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:17 PM ----------
How long has she had the phone? I wonder if she was on Froyo or GB.
Can you get into the recovery menu?
Thanks for your response.
I have unpacked all three files and loaded it into ODIN as per the firmware upgrade instructions on the thread you provided me.
I have also tried loading in both both the GB and the Froyo versions (UGKG3, UGJK3). After the "successful" message on ODIN, the phone boots up - shows the Samsung Galaxy GT I9000M screen and then goes black and keeps looping again.
I have a feeling this made me a problem with the bootloader. If the phone is completely stock, which one should i try flashing?
As the phone is stock there isn't a recovery (CWM) that i know of.... Or am I incorrect?
thanks again for your help!
OK, thanks for the clarification.
There should be the stock recovery from Samsung (2e or 3e).
Yes, it does sound like a bootloader problem.
Is it still under warranty?
EDIT: What is the build date for the phone? There will be a number in YY.MM format under the battery.
See if you can get into the recovery and try to clear the cache. That may give an indication as to what is going on.
We've had the phone for a year and a few months, so no more warranty.
In fact, we brought it back to bell store and they said there is "no way" the phone can be fixed. (yea right).
So I see a bunch of bootloaders in the forum here. Are there specific ones that work for the GT i9000M on bell? Or since I've tried flashing gb on the phone, do I need to download one that is specific to the OS? sorry as I am quite a n00b at this.
thanks!
The 3 file ROMs include a boot loader.
The GB one for Bell only includes the secondary bootloader (sbl.bin).
Bell no longer sells the i9000m, so they are hoping you'll simply buy a new one.
Your GFs phone is a couple of months older than ours. I bet the phone is one of the ones that has the issue where the internal storage is known to fail (builds prior to 11.03).
If that's the case, I think Samsung may repair/replace it, since it's a known issue with the early i9000m phones.
Did the phone get updated via Kies recently?
thanks again for following up.
How do I test if the phone's internal storage failed?
No I have not tried to update the phone via KIES. How does this work and what will it do?
Thanks!
Going into recovery and clearing the cache might show it.
If you see an error message that it can't mount something, that would be an indication.
EDIT: What's the build code?
I can't get into a recovery mode because the phone doesn't have CWM nor can I get by even the Samsung screen when it first turns on.
How do you flash via KIES? All I can do is get the phone into download mode. Can't do anything more.
Thanks.
Boot loop on stock Bell GT-I9000M
I have the same issue and still trying to find a solution.
Can't get into recovery. From most of what I read it's the boot loader. But I may be wrong, I 'm very new to this. I flashed with I9000UGKG3-homebinary with no luck. I did not however try the Sbl.bin file yet. I can still get to the Download mode and don't want to loose that ability.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

although you do not have CWM you should have a stock recovery... I know you have probably already tried.. but try again.
Menu+Power+Volume up...release only the power button as soon as the initial screen disappears.
if you do get into this screen you can do full wipes...
--pm me if you live in the Toronto area
It also might be a boot loader problem depending on what version of of android you were on and what you tried to do with odin and if you had the right version with the bootloaders etc.....

As dlockhart said, you should have the stock recovery on the phone.
Since you can get into download mode, you should be able to get into recovery mode by pressing volume up+home+power button.
Flashing through Kies only works if your phone will actually boot.
Since the phone is constantly boot looping, i tried to go into the stock recovery mode multiple times with the volume up + menu + power combination. Tried releasing the power button when the words are on the screen, when it is blank, and other permutations - but i cannot get into the stock recovery.
Once i press the volume down button instead though, i can quickly jump into download mode.
Is this normal? or am i doing something completely wrong?
Is there another way to get into stock recovery mode?
Don't release the power button until you see the recovery screen.
maybe also try flashing another kernel?
Boot loop on stock Bell GT-I9000M
I have tried to get to the recovery screen also with varied timing on button presses and releases, but no luck. Vol down and power gets me to download screen every time though.
I would keep trying the volume up power and home and as soon as you see the black background with galaxy showing let go of all buttons but wait until you see it restart again. So you'll hold vol. up + power + home and your phone will restart and you'll see the galaxy words keep holding the buttons until it restarts again and when you see the words let go of all three buttons. Now if your willing to switch kernels I would go to www.darkyrom.com and follow the directions there for flashing darkyrom 10.4.2 its just as smooth as stock but its not stock and voids your waranty, but since you dont have a waranty go for it. Good luck if you need any extra help you can pm me as well. I have had my phone since Oct. 2010 and flashed atleast a hundred roms and thought i broke my phone a few times but these thing are damn near impossible to totally mess up.

Is there a minimum remaining battery-life requirement for the device to enter Recovery?
Does the 3-button Recovery require power cable to be attached or not?
For what its worth, my I9000m has a Build Date of 11.04 and came with Froyo 2.2, so unless he already updated he's definitely not on 2.3.3
Downloading Kies to your PC and updating to 2.3.3 that way, just might work. Thats what I did.
