Firs off Im sorry if this doesnt belong here but I didnt know where else to post it. I have an HD7 (obviously) but I really wanted an HD2. I have a classmate in my econ class that is willing to trade me his HD2 for my HD7. But my question is would it be reasonable to also ask for some cash since my HD7 is not only permantely developer unlocked but also SIM unlocked? If so how much cash could I ask for?

I would ask at least one hundred with the trade simply because the hd2 is old now and the hd7 although is similar its newer and will have different development and updates real soon

Sorry as much as I love My hd7 and windows phone 7, asking for 100 bucks is a ripoff....and i'm sure the dude will likely laugh in your face(unless he doesn't know his phones)
Hell, I laughed when i read the 100 bucks suggestion(not being rude but it was funny lol)
Windows mobile on it's own is a great OS as it is....And it has a lot of features that you can't currently find in Windows phone 7
Couple in the fact that you can now run Android AND Windows phone 7 along with Windows Mobile, it's on par if not better
If the HD2 is old, then the HD7 is old.
Same Processor
Same Body
Same Camera
Same Exact phone pretty much
1)Except different OS/Ui
2)And more buttons on the hD2
So do a fair trade but my question is...Why do you want an HD2?
Regardless of what you can/can't do with either phone or peoples opinions on either device, the HD2 is a cheaper device. Perhaps the HD7 should not be "worth" more than the HD2, but at the end of the day it is.
Although i'd say 100$ is a bit much, i certainly wouldn't begrudge you taking at least a bit of cash for the swap, if not only for the fact it is a much younger device
How is it cheaper.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I think you should ask for some money for it as the HD7 is a more expensive device. Regardless of what people argue of what the HD2 can do or that it might be the same specs and whatnot, the HD7 retails for more new and sells for more used (check eBay). I wouldn't just go in on an even trade unless you just really want the HD2 that bad.
Bingo. And anybody who says otherwise is in denial.
As I said before, it's not about what people think the phone should be worth, at the end of the day it's what they RRP/sell for that is the deciding factor.
Guess im in denial. Lmao it retails for more because its a completely different OS aka newer. The hd2 has been out for a long time with windows mobile and the hd7 has only been out with windows phone 7 for months.
Still no regards to how it is cheap because it is the same exact phone. I've owned both
If you ask for cash then ask for cash based on OS not on hardware
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Even trade, imo, and maybe the HD2 owner can ask for cash. While it doesn't have capacitive buttons, it's a sturdier design imo. Not to mention the 'tinkerers dream' aspect.
Having owned both, however, I wouldn't go back to the HD2.
Likewise

lol this is madness!
Take this conversation and put it into any other situation involving different products and you'd be sentenced to life in a mental facility.
Take the automotive industry. We'll replace the phones with cars.
A new Dodge Viper comes out (HD7), new design (exterior) and a new quicker engine (OS). Everything else remains the same. John Smith bought one but realised he doesn't like the new engine and prefers the old one. So he finds Joe Bloggs who's got the old Version of a Dodge Viper (HD2) and offers a trade for the new one (HD7). Joe Bloggs says he'll do it, but rather than just swapping his old Dodge Viper (HD2) for a New one (HD7), he wants a further £10,000.
This is essentially what you guys sound like.
Analogies don't always translate well, such as cars vs. phones.
Same processor, same camera, same memory. Obviously the OS is much nicer, but WP7 has been successfully ported over to the HD2. Aside from a kickstand, physical camera button, and touch capacitive buttons (and crappier speaker?), taking the OS out of the equation, try and make a compelling reason why someone would choose the HD7 over the HD2.
Playing devils advocate here a little, as I personally wouldn't give up my HD7 for an HD2.
Age
You stated my analogy didn't work but it fits perfectly into what you've just said
Look, let's get one thing straight. I'm NOT saying that the HD7 is the better phone out of the two and haven't done at any point. The OP is basically asking if the HD7 costs more than the HD2, and the answer is yes. End of.
Go into any shop, search any website, browse any market, it's more expensive than the HD2.
Right now on the T-Mo USA website, HD7 is $499 unsubsidized, $99 w/2 year contract. HD2 is $449 unsub, $49 with two year.
HD7 is, therefore, $50 "better" in the real world. I don't think the OP would be unfair asking for $50. Worst case scenario, the HD2 owner says no.
Lol ask for the fifty bucks. Im dying to see what his response will be
I still really have not read a reason to justify asking for cash
But hey maybe the other guy is an uniformed sap lol
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
What do you mean u haven't read a reason to justify asking for cash?!?
Is the post just above yours invisible to you or something? Or do we all need to be mental for you to understand?
Lmao audio is it really THAT serious haha.
I don't go by suggested retail completely because different retailers charge different prices and what not. I would just use the suggested retail as a starting point.
At the end of the.day, the phones are nearly the same in every aspect aside from the software on top and cosmetic differences.
I've yet to read any thing that proves that it be right to.charge or ask for money to balance it out
If this was an evo for an hd2 or hd7, I could see someone saying I would need more cash because my evo is worth more. An evo, has nearly the same look of an hd7 more than a Hd2.....yet it has enough differentiating features to warrant charging someone extra money....despite the fact that at full retail, the hd7 costs more.
As it stands, an hd2 trade for an hd7 is a fair even trade.
But at the end of the day its my opinion

Yea good thing you got SOME cash for it cause no matter if the phones are "alike" the point of the matter is The HD7 is "newer" so it cost more money due to the retail value of it therefore making the HD7 worth more then the HD2.
But I bet here in the near future both phones will be worth around the same.
Hd2 FTW...I love to customize my shizzzz

I got this Nexus One by trading my G1 and $125.
Am currently on T-Mobile - contract up in March 2010
Ive been getting quite a few offers for my Nexus.
- Two people on craigslist are asking 300-350.
My phone is literally 10/10 condition and comes w/
everything , casemate case.
You think I should sell it for 300-350 now?
Should I wait till March 2010 when my contract is up? or do you guys think it will drop in resale value way more by then.
also do you think 300-350 is fair if cash is given

Only way I would sell my Nexus One is if I needed the money and I had another Nexus One already to replace it.
If you like the phone and don't need the money then why sell it?
Not a lot of better devices right now. Would hold on till contract ends or if something u like shows up. But it really depends on u'r needs: money, etc...

I am in a similar position, been offerend 350CDN for my Nexus but there really aren't any other phones out there that offer anything substantial over it to sell it... I like the Galaxy S, but until it is officially on Froyo it seems to buggy and really only has the bigger screen as the biggest reason to upgrade. I'm holding off until there is a substantial reason to upgrade.

I dunno guys, I love my Nexus too but I'd sell it if I could use an EVO or a Droid X on GSM I think. The screen pisses me off to end on the N1 the lack of accuracy, the effed up multitouch and the horrible performance of the screen in sunlight drive me crazy. This is an amazing phone but HTC had to go and screw up the whole package by choosing a ****ty screen. Coming from an iPhone 3GS I can tell you that this screen is by no means at par

Gladly! New androids as in practically every android made after the Nexus One.
Verizon - Droid X, Droid 2, Droid Incredible, HTC Merge, Droid R2D2, & Samsung Fascinate
Sprint - Evo 4g
Tmobile - HD2, Samsung Vibrant (if you can stand touchwiz) & G2
And these are the phones that I can think of off the top of my head. If you want to check out the European phones: Desire, Desire Z, Desire HD.
So to reiterate, yes the Nexus One was a good phone, very nostalgic, set the tone for the new devices that came out. But with that being said, the new devices that came out are better than the Nexus One. So read up, pick one you like, and either sell the N1 or hold onto it for sentimental value.

i don't really understand caring about wether or not you're on a contract. put the SIM in and use whatever phone. surely you're not considering LOCKING YOURSELF into another 2 or 3 year commitment for the sake of a $4-500 phone ?
as far as all those being better, the hardware specs are very similar. the carriers... oh man, CONTRACTS ! no thank you. i'll stick with the tmo pay-to-play non contract.

Yea. Before I paid Google 500+ I did my research about my nexus, and the math. Figured up over 2000+ dollars saved over two years using voip and Google voice, so I bought my nexus flat out and have been smiling since. Benchmark test wise I'm still over the Droid X and along with evolution I don't like the size. The g2 has 800 MHz =( and I don't use QWERTY or HDMI out. So a year after the purchase I would make it again today =)
N1 running psfreedom recovery and MIUI! sent via XDA app =D
All those phones mentioned have identical processors. Nothing running 1.3-1.5 ghz out yet. From what the news was saying is that towards the end of this year and begging of next we will have faster processors on smart phones.
I'd say hold off on selling your nexus or if you do, you aren't really getting anything better spec wise, maybe design is what you are looking for.

Keep the Nexus !
If you are wanting to stay with a certain carrier, your Android choices can tend to become very limited. I've been with Tmobile for years, happy, not moving.
My phone choices.... I dont really see any phones offered yet as being worth
signing another two year contract for.
I mean nothing fantastically better that my Nexus.
Heres what I mean, two years ago I was on the original G1 prebuy.
The Nexus is very drastically better than the G1.
I just dont see the TMO phone thats drastically better than the N1.
And if you have a Nexus then you have TMO or AT&T and AT&T's Android phone selection is worse than TMO's.
I'm holding pat especially since the N1 gets the updates months before any other phone does.
MyTouch was supposed to get Froyo "soon", and months have gone by, still no update.
Its almost like TMO would rather just keep everyones attention on its once a month new phone release than update the older phones.
When I do get a new phone I will keep the N1 till I'm sure the new one is better.
I've yet to see that phone though.
^ very true.
What also worries me is that none of the announced phones that are due to be released in this Q of the year are a whole lot better than Nexus One.
But as someone else said, I love my N1 except for the screen. The screen pisses me off so much!!
The G2 and the new mytouch are good replacements for the N1 in my opinion. Granted I'm not too impressed with the new mytouch overall design, nevertheless, the specs are nice and the FFC is a plus.

Anybody have an idea where to look for a refurbished Nexus one for under $200 or do any of you guys possibly have an extra/no longer using it for sale?
Good luck with that they still go for 290 and up. just save up alittle more cash sell few things on ebay that you dont need and you can get one. Or get a lg optimus or a hd2 they go for 200-250 and you can hack the hd2 and is a beast i sold mine i kinda regret it.

I'm in the UK, but it's the same principle: I got my Nexus One for £190 from a shop selling refurbished phones. It's in poor condition (scuffs on the four corners) but other than that it's perfect! So it is possible to find them, you just need to look around a bit!

whats wrong with the touch pro 2 maybe you can fix it alot of people sell parts for it on ebay. I still think the touch pro 2 was the best qwerty phone out there. I just look around ebay and a t-mobile Snap running windows 6.5 goes for 85.00 used and had the same specs as the touch pro 2 I think that would be a great device. I know windows mobile is old but for less than 100 bucks you get t-mobile 3g and wifi unless you wanna spend 100+ for a g1. In my opinion if you short on cash get a 20.00 flip phone and save those 200 to buy a nice phone that you really like.
Well i'd rather something better than the touch pro 2, something that i can atleast plug some headphones into lol, but i have around $160 ( and some extra for shipping), all i need is the phone itself, just asking around here to see if anyone is willing to sell one for around that price.

I just bought a second N1 with desktop dock and car dock for $344 off of Ebay two weeks ago. I don't think you'll find an N1 in good condition on there for less than $200. I would look at the various Android or N1 forums and you "may" be able to work out a deal with someone.
Good luck!
XDA is no longer worth my time.
OK...its pissing me off that people are posting their Evo 3D's in the market for $450.
HERES THE DEAL.
The EVO 4G is still selling for $449, the Evo 3D is selling new for $549.
I have an EVO 4G that is literally 2 weeks old....and yet its only worth $200-250
I don't want an Evo 3D, if I did, I would have used my upgrade to get one. However, Everybody knows you got the phone for $200 at MOST. Quit trying to be greedy and get 450 out of it.
I think given the pricepoints of both phones, 300 should be a fair price. One guy even had the balls to post he would accept an EVO 4G for trade plus $250.
How does this make any sense?
STOP BEING GREEDY! As I said, I'm not saying this out of jealousy, because I had an upgrade, and I chose to pass over the 3D, because for now its not rooted, and launch devices always have issues. This is just me not liking when something new comes out and people start getting greedy, just because its a new device.
If somebody's willing to buy it at that price, then why exactly should people stop posting those prices?

Sent from a lounge chair on my deck. Jelly?
lol i do.
yesterday i needed some quick cash because of a move im doing and i was short on my energy bill...
so i put my sprint galaxy nexus on craigslist for sale/ trade.
last week i got it new in the box for 150. a deal to me for sure.
i got a bunch of crap offers but eventually someone offered me their epic 4g touch and 100 cash for the gnex.
so we met up at a sprint store and called customer care because the store cannot do active phone swaps and we both went home happy.
right away i listed the phone on craigslist, within a few hours i got a few offers, mostly junk but one was or seemed to be worth while.
a white iphone 4 8gb, with case and charger, even trade. so telling her i was interested i posted the white iphone up on craigslist also forsale/trade before i even had it. i got many offers, a few low balls (lol even 50 dollars with the excuse that its outdated and old and the new iphone will be out this month lol), then a 225.00 offer, a 200 dollar offer, you get the idea. i entertained them all, but one of the guys ended up changing their minds and made a even better offer, he retracted his 200 dollar offer and said he would trade me his mint condition epic 4g touch with case, charger and 100 cash... BINGO lol, i quickly accepted.
how could i loose, i met up with the girl at 615pm to do the swap for my epic touch for her iphone 4, after thats done i wait for the guy who comes at 7 and we call sprint all over again and do another swap, it all works out and i leave with another 100 in cash and the same phone i came in with lol.
so i was tainted with a apple phone for about 10 mins... Lol it wasn't that bad but the screen was hard to adjust to.
anyone else flip on craigs? needless to say i have my epic back up on CL for hopefully another trade or sale.
i already got my epic touch running jellybean and honestly its not too much different then my gnex minus the lte which i dont have yet and the HD screen which is noticeable to me.

When you start to talk about morality, you instantly are entering into a subjective paradigm in the philosophical/metaphysical sense. However, I do agree you're in a way taking advantage of peoples lack of knowledge on the tech you're trading. Is this immoral? Depends on how you define it. If both parties are happy and walk away from the deal feeling like their was an equitable exchange, then I personally don't think so. Ignorance is bliss I guess. Now, if you intentionally mislead the other party into believing they're getting a much better offer than they realize for your profit then yes this is, to me, immoral, but I don't think your doing this. It is the reason I believe the majority of advertisements and those working in the field are in some sense immoral, but this is getting off topic.
In short, I haven't done it and for me the amount of time and effort isn't worth the small return.
I didn't mean to imply you're ripping anyone off. I just find it interesting how one can make a buck nowadays. I stress the kind of part because I read about the iphone part and it boggles my mind how people are willing to pay so much for so little. I get that if the needs are met then it's fine. However it boggles me further how people can conclude the iphone 4 and the galaxy s2 phone is of equal value. Galaxy s2 clearly has better specs plus MIUI more than makes up for the iOS experience. I get that not everyone is gifted with our passion which is why I use the term "immoral" for someone who knowingly barters with this information in hand. But I do agree with l3lessed that if the girl is happy then that's what matters. Then I conclude that while the ends justifies the means this time, I wouldn't make a habit of this kind of business.
That said: I'm sure you can many people in the MP that has "flipped phone".

Everyone was happy. In fact all the deals I did were brought to me, made by the other party.
I agree the iPhone to me isn't worth much but as everyone can see they have a huge faithful following, enough so to dump more premium phones (in our eyes) in order to have one.
Locally regular iPhone 4 non s versions are still selling more than galaxy s2s.

I flip phones all the time. If i find a great deal then i will most definitely snatch it up. One thing I never do is low ball. I always offer them a fair price that's low enough for me to make a profit, yet sits well with conscience. Business on Craigslist is easy money if you can negotiate.

I can't see the immorality in his actions. He's entertaining offers from others and not misrepresenting his goods. If anything, I'm impressed by the fact that youre arranging Craigslist deals in advance and juggling it all. You should get into stocks or futures or something and make real money with your talents.
It's not immoral, nothing wrong with it.
I have done that once or twice, it's how I get "new phones for free" but honestly it takes too much time/effort/driving and to me is not really worth it. I do it like once a year to upgrade my phone but that's about it. It's not a bad way to get a decent device though, just be willing to put up with all the BS that goes along with it.
I actually prefer the MP here for the most part, except for a few items that are overpriced here that I want to buy or underpriced (compared to local prices) that I want to sell.

Low ballers make me sick, but that's just a part of Craigslist.
Its not hard to do,but can be time consuming and irritating when you run into tire kickers and people who bs.
Throughout all the years I've used Craigslist for everything under the sun, from TVs,to fish tanks,to cars, refrigerators and probably other things I can't recall. But I've never have had one bad experience, never been robbed or put into any bad situations.
You just have to be smart and smell a bad situation before it happens.

I've never been robbed either. Just very nice people looking to buy and sell items.
If they want quick cash and I'm willing to buy, so be it. I take the time to relist the item and sit on it for a few days, a week, hell I've sat on an item for 3 months! It's all about time and effort. Here in NJ, there are really good deals. Business is just business.

Seems kind of immoral to me. It's like abusing Wal-Mart return policies to make a buck. You're using Craigslist outside of its intended use for profit. But you do what you gotta do to make the bills work: I personally would not make a habit of "flipping phones".

So you feel the same about people that flip houses, cars, etc? Essentially you hate capitalism? Supply & demand, etc?
I made money on craigslist this pass week. I just sold my GS3 for $400 (which I bought new for $440 on eBAY) and with the money I bought a white EVO LTE in mint condition for $225 which I sold on Ebay for $340 ($300 after fees and ship).
I list it on XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1900703 but the memebers here are to cheap to even recognize a good deal.

Very nice.
I made some additional moves on Craigs list recently which I didn't post about.
I traded my gs2 for a white 16gb 4s which in return i traded for a new in the box black evo lte.
Sad to say I'm surprised that the resale value on these phones aren't higher, because the lte is not too much different than the gs3...

I have for years!

I think it depends on your local community. For me craigslist is a massive headache full of flakes and people wanting msrp for 2 year old used tech.
I can't even tell you how many times I've relied to ads and been ignored.

I am selling my second Vivid and not getting many offers that are not scams, I think I may have it priced too high. What do you think a fair asking price is for this phone.
The offer is a factory refurbished Vivid running the stock ROM and not rooted. The OEM wall charger and microUSB cable, a dual port USB car adapter and second microUSB cable and a 32GB microSD card.
250 max...I've seen them go for 150 though
I would keep all the.extras and sell the phone and.charger for 200
If it ain't WCX, Then it ain't on my 1x
I just buy One in mint condition in this Forum and was $220 express shipped to mexico

Thanks for the replies. That is about what I was asking for the phone so it seems good. I had forgot about the marketplace until carlosirai mentioned it so I may post it there also.

New HTC "Trade Up" program
HTC has just announced a program where they will buy your old phone - IF you buy one of their new phones. Go to www.htctradeup.com to get a price estimate for your phone. You can compare that with other buyers. If you want to stay with HTC, this might be something to consider. Obviously, this won't work if you want to change manufacturers.
If they were already selling the One X+, I would seriously consider selling them my Vivid.
