Ok, I have lurked threw every post I can find on here and haven't found a fix yet. I did the tethered update and followed the posted instructions. My phone is not rooted btw. Anyways, I did the update and everything seemed to work fine until I got a phone call. My contacts are not showing up when someone calls, but they do when I receive texts. I tried the FutureDial thing and tried to import my contacts and it didn't pull anything except for my number even tho it still has all my contacts showing in the contacts. I did a factory reset and its still having the problem, and the contacts are still listed. I'm going to try to reinstall the update and see if that helps. But after this I am all out of ideas. I am sure I'm not the only one with this problem. Has anyone figured out how to fix this?

Hey man. There is already a thread on this issue. Please don't start new threads about topics that already have a thread. We don't need a bunch of multiple posts about the same thing. Maybe mod could move this or delete???
All you Have to do to get all of your contacts back is wipe your phone by doing a factory reset and themn run MyBackup and it should recover all of your contacts.
***No contact list***
Once I updated to 2.2 from 1.6, my unrooted ZIO worked great, but my contact list only showed a few contacts which I had deleted a long time ago. None of my current contacts showed up. However, the text messages, all had the names, and you could access the contact's info from the messages, same for the call list. I tried everything to get the list to show, but backup would not add any contacts, as they were clearly somewhere on the phone already. What I wound up doing that worked, was I copied all of my files (including contacts file) from the SD card onto my pc, then formatted the SD. Then I did the factory reset on the phone. Then I recopied the previous SD contents back to the Sd, but only the contact file, music, pics, etc. Nothing that looked like it was for the operations on the phone. Then I brought up the empty contact list on my factory fresh looking phone, and imported the contacts. Finally. Even Cricket could not help me with this, and just opened a ticket on it. Hope it helps.
My contacts just take the first ring before the name shows up. Try letting it rung a little longer maybe once or twice. Contacts should show up. Btw. All my contacts were synchronized with gmail not mybackup. Who still uses mybackup on android rofl!
Option94 is right. There is a stick in general for KNOWN ISSUES.

Hi guys, I did have a quick search to try and find answers to these but couldn't find anything relevant.
I have an O2 XDAIIi and upgraded to the Modified_XDA_IIi_Upgrade_v1.11.162_Radio_1.03 yesterday.
The upgrade went fine and the restore seems to have put everything back except my contacts. It's not a huge problem (I can enter them again I guess) but I wondered if there was some way of getting them back more easily?
What's weird is if I look at my call list (which did restore ok) then I can see the numbers and names of people who called me recently, but if I go to add them to my contact list by clicking and holding the number, the "Save to contacts" option is greyed out. It's almost like they are there but just aren't being displayed.
Any ideas? Should I do anything differently next time in regards to how I back-up, like use something other than Active Sync?
Also I wanted the corporate install (as I heard thats more stable) but it prompted me for a validation code, where does one obtain one of these?
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Anyone able to offer some advice on this? It would be a really big help.
Even if it's just how to backup contacts more reliably for next time. :?
I think that 2i has an inbuilt backup utility (at least my one has it) Settings->System->Permanent Save. There you can just choose what to backup.
Or, in Programs->XBackup, or you can just use Sprite Backup.
Ok thanks for the advice.
I'll try them next time. Seems odd that Active Sync can't do it. And weird that the contacts are kind of there (it lists names on my call register) but not listed in Contacts. :?
I have an ATT Tilt and it's been working great. I did a backup using the sprite backup. Now, I am not sure that had anything to do with it but my email shortcuts on my today screen disappeared and my text messaging will no longer work. When I open my start programs folder, they are both gone, I seem to have magically lost my text messaging icon and my messaging icon. I still have the htc plug in on my today screen but when I click on my text messenger icon it highlights the icon but never loads, just sits there. I cannot access my gmail or my road runner email; hell, I can't even find them anywhere on the device. Does anyone know what the heck is going on? I have searched high and low for any info and have found nada. I was thinking that maybe ATT or HTC would provide a listing of software on the rom and the file names so I could maybe try "re-installing" but again, screwed. nothing out there. I have used resco explorer and searched every inch of the tilt phone but without a listing of software and the associated filename it's freaking ridiculous. Please, if anyone has any info, no matter how small, please post; I will post a detailed fix if one is ever found.
Many Thanks,
Jasper
I have exactly the same problem . I have also run Sprite Backup but I dont think it coincided with losing messaging.
I removed some programs just before the problem but I cant remember what I removed as I was just having a tidy up.
I think I'm going to do a hard reset which should restore the messaging. Please let me know if you solved problem.

OK, this is freaky. I was just going to start this same thread.
I lost my entire messaging application last week. I think it happened after I uninstalled a bunch of apps, mostly spb apps. I tried a Sprite restore to no avail. I had to do a hard reset to get messaging back.
Just happened to me today
Along with my text messaging I also had three e-mail accounts and one e-mail sync account (to outlook). Since I can no longer get into the program, I cannot access any of the data on this device. I am running Windows Mobile 6.1 in case that helps someone come up with a solution. I will probably do a backup on my PC as well as a sprite backup and then reload the whole OS I think AT&T has a link on one of their sites to the ROM.
I have a Tilt on Dutty's DualTouch v3 rom. everything has been running fine until a few days ago when I noticed that my Messaging services was unable to open and receive messages. i have clicked Messaging from the Start menu and even through the Today screen icons, yet nothing opens. All I see is the box with the circles loading and then nothing happens. I have had a bunch of people ask me if i received their texts and it seems that not only can i not open Messaging, but i am not getting any text messages or any email from my Gmail account that is synced up with Messaging. Can someone please offer me advise on how to fix this? i would prefer a fix that didn't involve installing another rom. thank you for your help.
No ROM, but no email either
Not an answer to your problem, but I'm having the same issue running on the factory ROM on my Tilt. I haven't installed anything new lately to account for the happening. The most recent install was Opera Mobile, but a quick uninstall yielded no improvements with Messaging.
I'm pretty much to the point of wiping the slate and starting over. Anyone else with this issue?

Whats your provider? Alot of AT&T people have been having issues recently with the data/messaging plan do you have another phone you can plug your sim card into and test?
Problem solved
Provider is AT&T, but I actually found another thread further down my search list:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350862
I actually had two directories that started with 'Inbox.mst2....' and I copied them to my computer before deleting. The first of the two deleted just fine, but the other wouldn't budge until I went in through the File Manager on the phone itself. Luckily enough, I didn't lose any of my messages or emails with all of this.
It could very well be linked to Xpressmail, but that's strictly a guess.

Hiya,
Just reset my phone after backing everything up, gone to restore, it does its thing, but nothing appears in my messages etc?
Before it actually restores it clearly states theres 1500 or so messages to restore.
Confused!
Ive tried searching but not come across anything.
Please help!
Its only messages that havent transfered, the rest is fine.. Odd..
Ideas?
Hi,
I had a similar "problem". If it's the same, you must create the account first (set it up, with the same name as previously, f.i. Gmail or whatever you named it), then restore with PIMBackup.
Sorted it, had to completely clear SMS boxes before hand, thanks!
I recently backed up my phone using PC companion and I'm having issues restoring my contacts.
Everything else has restored including call log and text messages (although it took several attempts), but I'm having issues with the contacts.
Strangely enough some of the number in my call log do have contact names, but none of them appear in in my contact list. it may be the case that they are already store on my sim.
The other strange thing is that when I first go to call log, all contact names will appear for a second before disappearing. I've tried this method of pulling the contacts from the backup by Johannski but in the backup there is no file called com.sonyericsson.android.contactsimport. I've tried other files that end in names like localcontact but had no joy.

Any suggestions?
